Notes Update - Increased Rule-breaking Discretion?

Notes Update - Increased Rule-Breaking Discretion?

----

I've been doing some thinking recently and its quite rare that I do much of that when it comes to RuneScape much less its security. Now call me paranoid because for all you know I may be, but I've been thinking these notes may contribute to one of JaGex's prime rules of not selling accounts. If you'd like to listen, then please read on as I'm interested in having a good discussion with most of you about this. I want constructive criticism and comments, no flames and spam posts with no discussion please. When you're done reading, please post your thoughts about this.

We humans for a lack of good words are curious creatures, we like to see what we can do with all objects presented to us. Be it a block of wood, a blade, or even a car. We always wonder "What can this baby do?" whenever we see something new. Same applies here on RuneScape, take all things good and bad we've discovered for example. We find a good monster and we turn it into a training guide, we find an unbannable glitch in PvP and we turn it into an exploit to rapidly make money for our benifits. Ah, but this isn't about all that we've discovered so far in this game, its about the recent updates JaGex has implemented into the game.

I'll begin with the fact I do not support any form of RuneScape rule-breaking, in and out of the website so do not post that I do. Has anyone noticed that now that you're able to make about 30 notes that are a few short characters long, you're able to do a great many things on this? Of course we got the rule following types where we could place notes down that'd help remind of goings on that we should be doing, take clan members for example. Some of us are indeed forgetful and oftentimes forget that our clan meeting or event was today. These notes could help remind us that 'Our next Clan Wars event is on Sunday, July 12 at 4:45PM in world 100.'

And of course we got the possible problem. Sometimes things are meant to be forgotten, left unfound, whatever strikes your fancy, especially bad things you had intentions to do. With these notes that JaGex has recently updated, it'll be easier to send messages to each other discreetly or even remember what the bad things you had in mind. Most RWT cases, hacks, and account selling was found out by witnesses and people listening/watching these rule-breakers and being right to report them to cease this. Where'll that be now that Notes are released? Now anyone could sell an account on a secret website for money (Uh oh, RWTing!) and the customer account buyer could read the notes made on that bought account.

And since we know JaGex are die-hard on ensuring the safety of its creation (and their customers?), the proper use of notes can turn real ugly, real fast. When rule-breakers get curious for new toys to play with to help them achieve their own goals, it'll become popularized and soon almost all rule-breakers in gold/account-selling websites will adapt to these changes and things could get worse.

What do you make of this? Do you think people will use these notes for good or for bad? Please be constructive when you reply, I'd like to keep this discussion up as long as possible.

~REL

Are Runescape Players Unsupporting Of Jagex?

After the recent update to the game interface I was looking at some of the peoples reactions. What I saw was just sad. Players complaining over slight icon changes and font changes not even saying anything about the new Mobilising Armies update. Do we always have to focus on the bad? I know the new interface is not perfect and has some slight bugs but is it really that bad to try to start a riot in Fally? Is any update recently that bad to cause riots? (Maybe besides the removing of pking) I actually saw people saying they were going to quit after the new interface update!(I doubt they will tho, Everyone says that and never does) I personally have a lot of remorse for Jagex. They are trying their best to put out new content for everyone to enjoy. Its not their fault for killing merchanting or pking. Its the autoers and scammers who put them in that chokehold. I have to say that after the release of controlled trade and the GE I have seen no bots what so ever! Thats a plus. So my little suggestion to all the complainers, haters, and pure arrogant people is to stop rioting and complaining in chat. Instead let your steam off in the forums and post your rants there.

Thats all I have to say in this little rant of mine. Post what you think of the recent updates and if you have a rebuttle I will be happy to read and consider it. But back your post with some facts. Just saying "Borg you suck! Jagex hates us and has worse updates ever! PKING 4 LYFE MAN!" does not mean anything to me. Thanks for reading this post and I hope you see where I am trying to get at.

Peace,
Borg138

Some Info On Rwt

Jagex always says that taking away free trading helped decrease RWT. But how? Personally, I hate the trade limit, and have posted on the official RS forums about it. Maybe I just dont know much about RWT.....

Thanks,
-Paradox

New Publishing Head For Jagex: Jon Hare

There are many "heads" at Jagex. Here's a new head and it has Hare on it. Perhaps we can see changes with FunOrb? Perhaps this guy is replacing the guy (probably) fired for publishing Mobilising Armies? I'm just kidding

Jagex Gets Sensible Software Vet Jon Hare As Publishing Head

Runescape creator Jagex has hired veteran designer and Sensible Software co-founder Jon Hare as its head of publishing.

Hare, who's held lead design roles on Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder, to name a few, will now oversee publishing at the UK developer-publisher. He'll maintain a particular focus on Jagex's online game portal, FunOrb.

"Jagex is a traditional and very British games development company as well as being one of Europe’s most successful publishers," said Hare. "I am really excited to be joining the team and I feel very at home here."

Jagex's flagship free-to-play browser-based MMORPG Runescape claims some 5.3 million active players per month. The company launched FunOrb early in 2008. Founded in 1999, Jagex claims the status of largest independent developer-publisher in the UK, with 400 staffers across its two Cambridge studios.

( Source: http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=24351 )

Another source:

CAMBRIDGE, UK -- (Marketwire) -- 07/08/09 -- Jagex Games Studio, the UK's largest independent games developer and publisher, today announced that Jon Hare has joined the company as Head of Publishing. Hare, who has extensive industry experience spanning over three decades, has been appointed to oversee publishing at Jagex, with a particular focus on further developing FunOrb.com, Jagex's integrated gaming website targeted at time-pressed gamers.

"Jagex is a traditional and very British games development company as well as being one of Europe's most successful publishers," said Jon Hare. "I am really excited to be joining the team and I feel very at home here. I am looking forward to working alongside the management team to help nurture the mentality of innovation and expansion that already exists here and to grow FunOrb into the world's leading online games destination."

"Jon is one of the most highly rated game designers in Europe and has had a hugely successful career developing classic titles such as Sensible Soccer, Mega-Lo-Mania and Cannon Fodder," said Mark Gerhard, Jagex CEO. "Jon will be playing a very hands-on role, actively engaged in developing and optimising all of our games. Jagex has always focused on creating games that we want to play, FunOrb is no different. We have specifically created FunOrb for the time-pressured gamer, people who want a high quality deep gaming experience but only have 30 minutes a day or perhaps even a week to relax and enjoy playing. The site isn't for kids or for mums; it is designed for adult gamers who ask themselves 'why don't they make great games like they used to?'"

Over the last 24 years, Hare has developed more than 30 games on over 20 formats from Sinclair Spectrum to the Nintendo Wii, and he was named as one of the top 10 Britons who changed the video game industry by The Times newspaper earlier this year.

About FunOrb.com

FunOrb launched in 2008 to provide a unique online gaming destination for time-pressed gamers looking for a compelling gaming experience. FunOrb already has a collection of over 30 browser-based games with a wide variety of original IPs and modern versions of classic games from the '80s and '90s. The site has amassed a thriving community of over 1.3 million unique users and continues to grow with regular updates developed by Jagex's in-house development team.

About Jagex Games Studio

Jagex Games Studio is a world leading developer of high quality browser-based games and is the largest independent games developer and publisher in the UK, with some 400 staff across two studios in Cambridge, England.

Built almost exclusively on Jagex's own proprietary technologies; Jagex has proved its effectiveness with its popular browser-based game, RuneScape, currently the world's most popular free-to-play MMO, and FunOrb, Jagex's captivating browser games website.

I Remember When...

So I have been playing runescape for about 5 years now and I have seen good changes and bad changes come into the runescape world. I thought after everything this game has went through I would post about it now.

I remember when I played the game for the bad graphics because it was free
I remember when my friends and I would travel around the game for hours and do nothing but talk
I remember when I first got members and walked through the members gate into taverly entering a whole new world
I remember when the Al Kahrid scorpions were something to fear in the free world
I remember getting scammed for the first time with G Mauls and Rock Hammers
I remember when being "pure" meant using the least amount of stat enhancing items to kill people, not going from mith gloves to addy gloves with one defence
I remember when Mod Andrew was a big sighting whenever he came through
I remember when Mahatma and 3 Hit U were the best pures around
I remember when no name videos got no views on youtube and good pkers people actually watched
I remember when Elvemage was the best pk video youtube had to offer
I remember when killing a non skuller in Dharoks could get you the players helmet by smiting them, not smiting strength amulets and combat bracelets
I remember when pking with range meant a crystal bow or a magic shortbow
I remember when there was no skill capes
I remember arguing with people about what was better, WoW or RS
I remember spending countless hours at night doing nothing
I remember when I got my first pk and how amazing the adrenaline rush was
I remember when people were actually nice on this game
I remember getting lured for the first time and realizing not EVERYONE was nice...
I remember my first team drags trip, and although I got killed, playing with a team was great
I remember when Exiled was the best drags team
I remember when there wasnt a huge BH volcano in the wilderness
I remember when Jagex didn't make mistakes
I remember when Bots would crowd around Yew Tress for hours
I remember when Edge was the best single spot and going to Mage Bank was like walking into Hell
I remember when Durial took over falador for an hour
I remember when the whip was the favorite thing to smite off people
I remember when Rushing was used with a DDS and Defender

I remember when Runescape was actually fun and not boring...

You all are welcome to post the same thing or put your thoughts into my post also.

Posting for my friend Mac

(02:32:46) <@`Mac`> I remember scamming a kid for bank l00t and then losing it all in 3 days
(02:33:05) <@`Mac`> I remember when team scamming was risky with random people
(02:33:30) <@`Mac`> I remember when Berserker helms were hard to buy from people ingame unless you were in a pking world
(02:33:36) <@`Mac`> I remember when Dds's were 70k each
(02:33:46) <@`Mac`> i remember when ppl didnt speak l33t
(02:34:09) <@`Mac`> I remember when people who wore d meds weren't considered nooby
(02:34:34) <@`Mac`> I remember being pissed off when i died with my torso and some (insert insult here) with Ancients tried to block me from getting it back
(02:35:24) <@`Mac`> I remember the day i Met Andy and all of you guys
(02:35:38) <@`Mac`> I remember sean being the biggest d bag by Time banning me
(02:35:47) <@`Mac`> we're the best of friends now
(02:35:49) <@`Mac`> l0l
(02:35:59) * @`Mac` drops a tear
(02:36:02) <@`Mac`> :|

See what memories do to a person? :(

Take Things Out! Quality>quantity

Well The battle of "Quality vs Quantity" has played a major role in what Runescape is today. After removing free trade/wilderness/staking from the game Jagex put many new ideas into the game, that where somewhat decent such as Fist Of Guthix and The Clan Wars Arena. But after seeing the recent update of "font change", I have somewhat noticed that Jagex has been doing unnessasary things in Runescape. Did the font REALLY need changing... it has gotten much worse with many people complaining they cannot see the difference in "0s and 8s" The fact that Jagex has put in a number of Quantity items into the game is a reflection that they throw any idea they have in the game/

So lets hear from you What do you personnally see as useless in Runescape and should be removed.

Me personnally

1)Skill Tutors - I think this is just ridiculous... Jagex is making new players look like mindless "noobs".
2)Assist - This puts 0 sence to skilling. People should earn the right to do something
3)Item Lending - Meaningless and not in "the spirit of the game"
4)Change font back to the original
5)in game advice "Never tell others your password" ...Thanks... sort of ruined the vibe...

So what do you guys think?? If you were to remove aspects of the game, what would they be?

Junk, A Good Item To Have Now?

With Mobilizing Armies out, there's plenty of items there considered "Junk". The junk can be invested into points --> Ranks --> Items that are a lot usable other than plain "junk".

I ask you now, is this a good way to get rid of most of player's junk from junk trading, etc? In my Opinion, I think it'll help plenty of people eliminating their junk. You have a +/- of 0 Gp. [The items you exchange at MA are untradeable, I think]. I think it'll help a lot of players. There's a catch though, you have to spend hours for items, ranks, etc. JaGex didn't let you go free, so it made it even better. Great Update to eliminate junk items [most of them]

Post your opinions.

~Jaja

QUOTE

We've also moved the Summoning interface's functionality to the Summoning icon next to the minimap – simply right-click on this icon for all your pet/familiar needs. We're aware this leaves a blank 'stone' on the interface; there is another new feature planned to go in that space.

well that pretty much explains why i made this post
shoot away your ideas and before you ask i dont have any idea or clue on what it would be i have no imagination!
