Last year, Rung was presented with the amazing opportunity to expand into the space next door. Since Rung opened, we loved playing the name game and joking about the potential stores we could open using the “-ung” suffix. Sprung as a children’s and maternity store continued to come up in conversations and quickly became less and less of a joke. When the space opened up, we took advantage and the dream of Sprung came to fruition. As crazy as it sounds, exactly nine months from when we took possession of the space, we opened our doors.

Last Sunday, Rung and Sprung had the honor of throwing a celebration in honor of Rung’s 3rd anniversary and Sprung’s official grand opening. This was our opportunity to thank those who have helped us along the way and those who have donated their time, effort, and most importantly, their clothing and accessories!

Butler’s Pantry provided a lovely (and delicious) spread of food and our friend Colleen Dotson provided some of our favorite cupcakes!

During the event, guests had an opportunity to eat, socialize, shop the stores, bid on raffle items provided by our friends in the community, have their face painted and shop a Silpada Jewelry trunk show with 30% of its sales going directly back to the stores. Needless to say, a great time was had by all!

If you were in attendance on Sunday, thank you for coming to celebrate with us on our special day – your love, support, and generosity have meant the world to us these past few years! If you could not attend, we still want to thank you for your loyalty to us and to the great causes we work so hard to help support. There is no way for us to truly say how much all of our family, friends, donors, and customers mean to us. Without you, we would not be nearly as successful as we are.

to the Fashion Insane Asylum at Rung!

It’s almost Halloween (when the grown-ups get to play dress-up too). And resale shopping is the best way to get outfitted for costume parties and trick-or-treating. Stop by and peruse the rack of costume ideas from our talented staff or give us an idea and challenge us to make it happen!

I have my own theories about why. Maybe it’s about blame. Blame cancer and we’re all on board. Blame the victim for not leaving, or the offender for not having more self-control and the whole subject becomes sticky: personal and controversial. Victims of domestic violence hide their injuries and lie to their loved ones. This may be true for some breast cancer patients, but it’s almost always true of victims of domestic violence.

So I think that’s why I felt compelled to address this issue in our October ad for St. Louis Magazine and why the photographer felt compelled to tell the whole story with a pictorial. The ad’s message is simple. Don’t be ashamed. Tell us. Tell the National Domestic Violence hotline. Tell somebody. Don’t cover it up. You deserve to be safe and happy.

Nominated by her daughter Alicia, Alice was the chosen winner of Rung’s 2nd Annual Hard-Working Mom Award!

Mom and daughter came to the store last week to claim Alice’s prize of a $100 Rung gift card, and they were both nice enough to let us take a couple of before- and after-shopping photos. 

Here’s Alicia’s thoughtful and award-winning essay:

I am writing to nominate my mother, Alice Trebus, for the Hard-Working Mom award. She used to be a nurse in the ICU at Children’s Hospital, working long and emotionally convicting shifts. Later, my mother’s kidneys failed and she had to have dialysis treatment. While we completed this treatment, she raised me on her own (and did a heck of a job!). After eight years on dialysis, my mother received a kidney transplant in 2005. Through these experiences in which we had to count on faith, my mom has taught me about the importance of a positive attitude and a heart for God. Although she can no longer be employed, she still finds ways to carry out her passion for other people: she currently sponsors two children in Bangladesh, is active in our church and in the community, and daily teaches me more and more about living for others. She finds such joy in being selfless. While she may not be able to ‘work’ like many of the other wonderful moms you’ll read about, she is the most dedicated worker I know!

Thank you Alicia for your nomination and congratulations to Alice. We at Rung are proud to present you with this award and we are all thankful for all you’ve selflessly done for others.
