I strive to bring a fine art feel to my images, and while I just frustrated hearing people use the term “painterly”, it really does describe what I’ve tried to accomplish in my personal work, and have had people comment as such during Second Saturday Artwalks in Ballard.

Brooke’s approach to photography is refreshing, and I’m so happy to hear a photographer say it’s okay to not always have your camera with you and to only take the pictures you want to take. I’ve always believed that, and have had a hard time because everyone tells me that I’m wrong, so it was refreshing to see it.

Also her approach to photoshop is simple and refreshing. She uses a limited palette of tools, and accomplishes great things. Photoshop is powerful, but sometimes it’s too powerful for someone who doesn’t live and breath it.

Since watching her workshop, I’ve been super inspired and have planned a number of shoots and am just working through the logistics of it. I’m also starting a self-portrait project, which you will be able to follow here: Self Portraits.

The weather was cold, but dry, so I setup and started shooting. I felt a bit silly waving a stick of lights around, but it worked well enough. Next time, I need to have a couple of flashlights to add more than just the light trails.
