Comments: I visited the Live Oak Grill yesterday for the first time and it was great! Following the lead of my friends, I ordered a 6 oz. cheeseburger, with everything, and a mixture of fries and onion rings. Everything tasted homemade because it was. The burger was piled high with fixings and the onion rings were as good as any I've ever had. We ate inside, but many others ate lunch outside at tables under the live oak trees. If you want to get away from the hustle and traffic of modern Sugar Land for a great lunch, I strongly recommend that you head for the Live Oak Grill.

Comments: I had the opportunity to ride with and learn from Gary Bailey last month during a Joe Wolter clinic. Joe had broken a leg and couldn't ride, and Gary demonstrated the roping and horsemanship concepts that Joe could not. Gary demonstrated through the clinic that he is quite a hand in his own right, and his knowledge and skill as a horseman and roper made that clinic much more valuable to me and the others attending. In the picture, Gary is demonstrating how to halter a colt for the first time. If you have a colt that needs starting the right way or if you'd like a horsemanship and roping clinician to teach an event, you can do no better than Gary Bailey!

Comments: I attended one of Joe Wolter's Home Ranch clinics with my Quarter Horse after he had bucked me off and bruised my ribs. After that episode, I lacked confidence in my horse and I suspect that he lacked confidence in me. After four days of riding under Joe's supervision, that confidence has been restored and strengthened. My horse is more responsive than ever before and I'm riding him better than ever. Working cattle and roping horseback were new skills that Joe started me on and I'm looking forward to returning for more instruction in the near future. If you have a chance to attend one of Joe Wolter's clinics at his home ranch or elsewhere, do yourself and your horse a favor and go!

Also Joe and Jimmie's hospitality were great -- I felt like a family friend rather than a clinic participant. The accommodations were very comfortable and the food plentiful and home-cooked.

Comments: I wanted an equine dentist to check my horses' teeth so I called Dr. Niederman. She travels with a portable stock for working with the horses that is much more functional than the stock the local vet clinic has, and she has a real easy way with the horses that makes the examination and the floating procedure as pleasant as possible for them. Dr. Niederman found a broken incisor in the mouth of one of my geldings that had been missed the previous year by another vet during a dental exam and float. She's coming back next month to remove that tooth. The other two horses needed no work, and she was honest in telling me that. If you're in the Houston area and you need an annual dental check for your horses, I strongly recommend that you call Dr. Niederman.

Comments: This review comes from a transplanted Texan currently residing in South Florida. If anyone in your area ever finds themselves in Ft. Lauderdale and needs a good dermatologist (and, let's face it, be it in Texas or Florida, or any other sun-baked climate, who DOESN'T need a good once-over from a qualified dermatologist?), Dr. Nelson Charlie is excellent. A Yale graduate, Dr. Charlie hails from New Orleans, LA and provides a caring and courteous bedside manor not often experienced from physicians today. He is competent, efficient, and thorough, and focused on skin health rather than cosmetic lotions and potions that don't do anything to improve one's looks. Everyone raves about him, and he genuinely knows his stuff. His staff are also excellent, and are equally competent and efficient. If ever you find yourself in Ft. Lauderdale and in need of a good derm, give his office a call. You won't be disappointed.

Comments: My wife and I first bought the B&W turnover ball gooseneck hitch for our stock trailer. It's very easy to use and turns over leaving a flat bed in out pickup when we don't need to tow. About 18 months ago, we purchased a 5th wheel RV and the B&W Companion Hitch. The Companion Hitch is also easily removable from the truck bed, which allows us to tow the stock trailer or have a flat bed for loading plywood. The Companion Hitch operates easily and it also makes it easy to hitch up the 5th wheel -- obviously the hitch is well-engineered with high-quality materials.

Unfortunately, after our last camping trip, I couldn't remove a bolt that had to be removed to disassemble the hitch. When I tried to apply extra force, the bolt broke. I was able to remove the hitch, but it couldn't be remounted without new components.

I visited the B&W website and filled out a form describing the problem and asking about replacement parts. The next day, I had a response from Gregg at B&W Hitches telling me that B&W would send me the replacement parts at no charge if I faxed him a copy of the purchase receipt for the hitch. The next day I faxed the purchase receipt and within a few days, I had my replacement parts.

I was impressed with B&W Hitches for several reasons. First, there was no hassle about proving how the hitch was damaged -- it broke and they were going to fix it at no charge to me. Second, they acted quickly -- our upcoming trip can go as planned because I had the part within a few days.

There are so many companies these days that don't stand behind their products. If you have a problem during the warranty, you can expect to fight with the manufacturer. Not so with B&W Hitches. If it fails during the warranty period, which is a generous two years, they'll fix it without a fuss. B&W Hitches has earned my very strongest recommendation.

Comments: My wife & I spent last week in England. I had discovered this restaurant in October 2008 on a prior trip to the UK. We enjoyed the food so much that we dined at the restaurant 3 of the 4 nights in London (March 9, 10, & 12, 2009). Comments: I've purchased three loads of 60-80 bales from Goudeau Farms for my three horses and I've always been impressed with the quality of the hay I've received. The hay has been baled at the right time, which means I've never had any issues with moldy hay. My horses like the hay and it's kept the weight on them through a severe drought. My trailer has always been loaded very quickly and the folks there always help me strap down the load before I depart for home. Goudeau Farms is a great source for horse hay, and I'm lucky that my barn is less than 10 miles from the Farm.

Comments: Our roof had been built with a gutter section inset in the lower portion of the roof over the front door. It didn't work well and caused damage when heavy rains caused the gutter to overflow. Precision Roofing removed the old gutter section and repaired the roof, installing new shingles that were a close match to the installed roof. They did the work quickly for a very reasonable price and cleaned up all the construction debris before they left. A very professional outfit to deal with and highly recommended!

Comments: I had visited this store several times over the years when it was Dominion Saddlery. However, the level of customer service was uneven and the store was not well stocked. I visited again recently after the changeover to Dover Saddlery and was pleasantly surprised. I needed a rechargeable clipper that was powerful enough to do a body clip, but was easy to handle and not too expensive. The sales rep was very familiar with the extensive selection and had actually used several of the clippers on her horses. The store was much better stocked than it had ever been before, and there were more staff people (and more customers) than I ever remember. Dover Saddlery, the catalog, is well known for quality equipment -- they've kept that quality in launching their Charlottesville store and upgraded the level of customer service too. I'll be back!

Comments: I've done business with the parts department, service department and sales. I bought a B&W 5th wheel hitch there and got a good price on it. The service department fixed our generator and found that a mouse had nested in the wiring and caused a short. It was an inexpensive repair and much cheaper than replacing the generator. Finally, PPL sold our RV and did a great job. They spent a lot of time going over the process with us and they kept us informed of interest from buyers. It sold for more than we thought it would and the entire process was hassle-free. Dealing with PPL was much better than trying to sell it ourselves and they were completely honest with us throughout the process. I'd buy and sell through them again and I've always been completely satisfied with parts and service too.

Comments: Eddie Drabek trimmed my three horses last weekend and I was very impressed with the results. He found an infection in the cleft of the frog in one horse and recommended a low cost treatment, which I'm following now. Another horse has two front feet with different hoof sizes and angles and he is moving much more comfortably since the trim. The third horse has great hooves, but has poor manners with a farrier. Eddie had the patience and firmness to get the job done with this horse without losing his temper. We're working to improve this horse's manners for Eddie's next visit. I'd been trimming my horses myself for the last 13 years, and Eddie Drabek does a much better job than I ever have.

Comments: My wife,2 daughters, and son-in-law have been going to the Thai Cottage II for at least the past 5 years. It is an easy place for us to meet them between Houston and Wharton. It is at the corner of Sweetwater Blvd and Lexington. We have been there so many times that the staff recognizes us and can usually predict what we will order! Comments: After a bad experience buying a quarter horse at an auction, a friend recommended that I look at the horses available at some of the old-time ranches with legendary ranch horse programs. He recommended the Haythorn Ranch as one of those to take a look at. I checked the Haythorn website and found several likely geldings listed and then I called for more information. Loriann, at the Haythorn, listened to my description of the horse I was looking for and then suggested that I come up to Nebraska to take a look at a 10 year old gelding they had for sale. It was easier, and less expensive than I thought to get there with a flight from Houston to Denver on Southwest and then a 3-4 hour drive to Ogallala, NE. I was at the ranch in the morning, talked to Loriann about the gelding, watched her ride him, rode him myself around the ring, and then she opened the gate and let me take him out for a ride across the ranch. We went through a herd of yearling horse, passed herds of cattle, rode by irrigation equipment, trotted and loped and the gelding did great. I decided to buy him and paid a fair price that was representative of what I had been seeing online for a horse of his experience and bloodlines. After the ride, I met Craig Haythorn and some of his crew for lunch before heading back to Denver.

I've got the gelding back in Texas now, and he is as good here as he was in Nebraska. He's well-trained, has lots of cow, is gentle, and has the best feet I've seen on a horse in a long time. My friend's advice was right on -- if you want a great ranch horse that's been raised and trained right, you'll do well to deal with a ranch that has a reputation for quality and fair dealing going back to the 1880s. The Haythorn is one such ranch, and it's the first place I'll look next time I'm in the market.

Comments: We visit Greek Brothers frequently as one of the best restaurants in this area of SE Texas. The Shrimp Cozumel is wonderful although it is a meal and a half for many people. My sister-in-law always goes for the Grilled Tuna (rare) and she loves it. The restaurant and bar also have lots of local atmosphere and the staff is very professional. If you're passing through the area, do yourself a favor and get off the highway for an hour or two for a great meal at Greek Brothers.

Comments: I visit Wharton Feed at least once a week to purchase horse feed and farm supplies. It is always an enjoyable experience to stop by and Timmy's prices are very reasonable. I needed some special low starch feed for my mare with Cushings disease, and Wharton Feed was able to order the feed for me. They also charged me significantly less than folks in other areas of the Country were paying for the same Purina product. It's worth stopping by Wharton Feed, even if you need to drive a little to get there.

Comments: J&J Electricians has done work for us at our home in adding electrical outlets, lights, and ceiling fans to a 1950's era home and also in bringing electrical service to a new barn. All of the work has been first-rate. Russell is a very competent electrician and will deliver a very professional job at a reasonable price. We couldn't be more satisfied with their performance.
