We'll be at FOG Con!

Most are probably reading this wondering why a couple who does web design will be at a gaming convention. Well, a change in our normal day jobs (because we haven't broken out into full independence yet) had me forget to pass on the news sooner. While we still have a focus on our Internet side, we are also bringing forth our other crafts under the Rusted Icon Designs title.

Considering the previous post is two years old (shame on us, sorry!), here is a little insight. Angela has been making necklaces for the past couple years and has also taken up perler bead art. Her chosen direction thus far is recreating game sprites due to their pixelized look after being melted down. Chris has taken to colouring with Copic brand alcohol markers and recently started to build shadowboxes doing tiered pieces to give more depth to the usual flat images.

We will be in Pekin, IL on May 30th - June 1st for the Fans of Gaming Convention selling our individual crafts. You can read up all the event info on their website: fansofgaming.net

Redesign for Better, not Worse.

It's true that we're not as big as other local, national or global companies, which is fine because we don't want to be. You lose focus at that size when there is a financial demand of income to just keep your doors open. We are a more down-to-earth couple focused on local businesses. We strive to help them develop a web-presence while maintaining a good image, yet cutting corners is not the way to go.

How many times have you been to a website that was updated, only to find out that what the company had before was ten times better? This is usually because they have someone internal that claims they can do such and this gives the company the ability to have total control and cheaply, without having to deal with an outside entity.

The phrase "You have to spend money to make money" is entirely true in that case, just like every other aspect of running a business. Your website is a form of advertising, a pretty impacting one at that. If you'd spend thousands on radio/television spots that only some people are going to hear/see at limited points in a day, why are you trying to cut corners with something practically everyone can see at any time?

New Site Layout

So the previous compact version was nice at the time, but it didn't give us much room to talk about our web design company. We were only able to briefly explain how we try to focus on local business in Springfield, Illinois, who we are and whom we've worked with, but that was it. Being so static doesn't fit the concept we've had in mind, so it had to be redone. Now we can communicate to our audience and clients through multiple sources to keep everyone up to date on newest projects and more through the various social media. The type of news may vary depending if you follow us on Facebook, Twitter or this RSS feed, but it is still communication to let you know we haven't disappeared.

Thank you to those who have been supportive of us in the beginning and to the clients that continue to do business with us to this day!
