Its that time again - I can't believe it is more than 2 years since the Lightroom 3 Beta and exactly 6 since the very first Lightroom beta!

Adobe Carousel

Adobe announced a new product today at Photoshop World - Adobe Carousel.

So, what is it?

Adobe describe it as seamless access to your image collection whether you’re on a desktop, tablet or mobile phone. It shares both your images and any adjustments you have made. The best bit is the adjustments are non-destructive, just like when you are working in ACR or Lightroom.

Key features:

Simple library browser
Drag an drop photos to add to Adobe Carousel
Single click, non-destructuve editing with slider based refinement (similar to ACR and Lightroom)
Application looks the same on desktop and iPad
Add photos direct from your iPhone
Share a Carousel with other people and all can see, edit and add photos

Key information:

Supported platforms/devices: iPhone 3GS and 4, iPad 1 and 2, iPod Touch 4G and Mac OS X 10.7 (Windows support scheduled for early 2012)
Import as many photos as you want
Install Adobe Carousel on as many devices as you like
30 day free trial available

Dust bunnies

Working up an image this evening and decided it was time to clean the sensor on my trusty old Canon 1D mkIIN.

All those white circles are the 'worst' dust bunnies (spots)...there are still a few left...

Keyboard shortcuts for cropping with Lightroom 3

As much as I dislike composing after the fact (i.e. cropping in post-processing), it can be difficult to resist the temptation to tinker…so here are the finger dances I use most with the cropping tool:

I know, this is late news - Adobe released these fix versions whilst I was away.

These are minor updates, adding recent camera support and fixing some issue, including possibility of JPEG file corruption.

You can get the updates through the normal application updates or download them from Adobe.

Update to Canon lens availability in the UK

For those of you who must have/can afford the new mkII big Canon primes, they recently announced new sales availibility/release dates on the Canon UK blog:

EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM	Late August, 2011
EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM	Late August, 2011
EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM	Late July, 2011
EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM	Within 2011*
EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM	Within 2011*

These dates seem to be in line with the main Canon press release for the USA (with prices):

Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM lens is scheduled to be available in late July 2011 ($1,399)

Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens is scheduled to be available in late August 2011 ($6,599)

Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens is scheduled to be available in late August 2011 ($10,499)

Canon EF 500mm F4L IS II USM lens is scheduled to be available in December 2011 ($9,499)

Canon EF 600mm F4L IS II USM lens is also scheduled to be available in December 2011 ($11,999)
