While much of my free time is spent with the kids, I typically have some spare time in the evenings after they go to bed. Thanks to my direct tv cable internet, I can always find something to kill those couple of free hours at night before I head to dreamland myself. Whether it’s watching the latest reality television or catching up with my friends on the different social networking sights, I can lose myself in more adult entertainment or conversation uninterrupted and get a break! During the day, our television is usually tuned to Nick Jr or one of the other kid-centered (and family-friendly) stations. And the computer is usually occupied by one of the kids playing a game or doing homework. I’m not sure how we ever completed a research project years ago without the help of the internet! I use that time to get my chores done and take care of things around the house. It’s nice to have the kids entertained so I can get my things done. Otherwise I wouldn’t get my free time at night!

Be Comfortable in your own Skin

At my age, I think I am getting more adventurous yet cautious. Who would have thought that I could run races in my mid 40s? I can’t even play “tag-you-re-it” when I was little. But then, even if I am into running now, I am cautious of my body because I want to run more races even in my 60s or 70s. That is why I take vitamin supplement like calcium for my bones.

At my age, I guess I am becoming more bold yet careful. I enjoy doing things that I use to love doing but I love to try out new things like doing polymer clay crafts. I love doing my own jewelries using polymer clay where I can express my own unique style and life style.

And at my age, I am more comfortable in my own skin now. Gone are the days when I was so conscious and too careful of what I put on my face for fear of getting skin allergy or pimples. Now, that I discovered the perfect skin regimen I’m happy. And though ”acne or pimples” never become a major skin problem to me, at my age, the anti-aging light therapy is the best way I can give to myself. Why?

This is why:

Via: Tanda Skincare

So for you who are at my age – this might also be the answer to make you comfortable in your own skin too. Wink*

C for Scary

Last month, my family doctor called me on the phone. She just left a voice mail but still, it was very unlikely of her to call me. Though I was suspicious, I didn't return her call till the following week.

After I talked to her and hanged up the phone, I was wondering what was she talking about. I tried to recall our conversation trying to digest everything she said. Then it dawned on me that it was something really scary.

She found an abnormal cell in my recent pap smear. That was what the call was all about. She is going to refer me to an OB Gyne for a biopsy so make sure what it is. Apparently, that abnormal cell may cause cancer of the uterus. Though she said it was very unlikely but due to my age and family history - I had a cousin who died of cervical cancer 2 years ago and another cousin who just had a hysterectomy two weeks ago - it would be the best thing to do. I agreed.

My biopsy schedule is today at 3:45 pm. I received the news last month and I kept it to myself until two days ago. I never told a soul till then. I am so scared! The thought of the big C scared the hell out of me!

Last night, me and hubby was crying as we held each other. I told him that if I would be found with cancer, I wanted to go home and be with my family. But as I was saying that, I realized that he too is my family. I was torn and cried some more. This morning before I left for work, we hugged each other and cried harder. And in the car as we drove to the hospital for my scheduled biopsy we were holding hands like we never want to let go.

At the hospital, I have never seen his face so scared before. I could see in his eyes how worried he was. I wanted to cry but I controlled myself.

I only saw the glow in his eyes again when I told him that I didn't need a biopsy. The OB Gyne said that upon studying my family doctor's paperworks, the abnormal cell normally occur during the menstrual cycle. I had the pap smear during that period and I'm all set.

Oh what a relief. We still held each other's hand on our way home.

My Two Questions:
1. Have you been so scared of anything before?
2. What would you do if you received such a terrifying news?

My husband and I are now empty nesters. It is a very different life than we had for many years. We raised four children who are now off living their lives somewhere else. When the kids were growing up we had them involved in everything that you could think of. I was always carpooling them to ballet, baseball games, swim practice, soccer practice, piano lessons, sleepovers, doctor appointments, and even more things that I can’t remember right this second. We always made sure they were involved with church too. We took them every Sunday, and then on Wednesday nights they all went to be with the church youth group. It seemed like we were always at church every time the door was open. But now, since they are grown and gone, my husband and I sometimes take a Sunday off from church. We recently got direct.TV and discovered that we can watch church on television if we want to stay home. My husband really likes this church program called Touching Lives. Dr. James Merritt is the pastor, and his program is shown all over the country. I think I am starting to like this empty nest thing. I am now free to do what I want to do and not what my children want to do.

My Friend’s Pain Gone… kinda

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I had a long conversation with my friend earlier. It was not a good one. Well, I can feel her pain because she just lost her job and now that she is under maintenance pills for her high blood pressure and prescription pills for her diabetes, she is really worried.

She was worried because apparently, Walgreens failed to renew its contract to continue to be a part of Express Scripts’ pharmacy provider network. Walgreens and Express Script contract ended last December 31st and this has a great impact on her family because most of their medications are managed through Express Scripts and Walgreens is the only pharmacy where they go to. It is the most convenient place to get her prescription refills because it’s just a walking distance from her home. She cannot even think of changing pharmacy because she also was able to establish a good relationship with her pharmacists Lisa and Amanda who is her daughter’s Godmother.

Good thing I know what she is talking about and told her that favorite pharmacy is doing its best to help its customers ease their burden through Walgreens Prescription Savings Club which offers special discount on annual membership and savings on over 8,000 brand-name and all generic medications. I also told her that she can get discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions for her beloved dog Bubbles, nebulizers for her daughter and her diabetic supplies. And she can get bonuses every time she purchases Walgreens brand products and photofinishing services. With a $10 a year family membership, her family is all set, including Bubbles.

When she heard this, she kinda calmed down. So I told her, if you are happy with what they did to help people like you… like Walgreens on Facebook and follow Walgreens on Twitter because offer like this is a huge thing in this tough economy. So, to you my friends out there, let’s help support Walgreens and do the same.
Yeah... yeah.. yeah... So what else is new aside from the fact that we move one to the next calendar year? As for me, my procrastination issues are very well in-forced. hahaha.

Yeah, if you have noticed, most bloggers posted their first blog for the year on the - first day of the year. Me, it's the 2nd week already or half of the first month of the year. So there is really nothing new. If there is really new, it's I am writing at all. I have been busy and it's not an alibi, it's a way of life now.

So, my questions are:
1. Do you do New Year's Resolution thingies?
2. Do you actually do it? hahaha

Well, for me, I don't. I tried many times only to fail. So I just do what I feel like doing on the given day and move on from there. And yes, I actually do it... for sometime and forget all about it around the 3rd month of the year. LOL.

But the big thing that really happened last year was I made a new year's resolution around March and I am still doing it. I am renewing my promise and I did it.

Last year, I promised that I will take in-charge of my health and started running. I ran 7 races [5k] last year and I started with my first 5k this year. Hopefully, I will be able to run one race every month. And I want to keep it simple and uncomplicated.

Happy New Year all.

When we bought our second home I made sure we knew where each and every penny was going. I wanted to ensure that we weren’t going to become house poor for a vacation home and my husband agreed so we went down there and stayed DURING all the renovations to watch over it and make sure everything was under control. Once those were done I put in the finishing touches myself to save on a decorator and I did things like research Hughes Net Internet Pricing and cancel the alarm system since I didn’t feel like we really needed it in the gated community. I love that the place is all ours and that we’re able to afford it without a big hassle but one of these days we’re going to need to rent it outto cover the mortgage. I know my husband doesn’t like the idea but at the end of the day it’s all about meeting the numbers and that’s going to be the only really viable solution at a certain point.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to everyone. They are so adorable and cute even if they have the tendencies to throw tantrums every now and then. But then, working 12 hours, 5 days a week is indeed exhausting. That is why I always look forward to weekends because I can do other things like – running.

The race last Sunday was not just another 5K run that I joined in the past. It was kinda special for two reasons. First… it’s my second trail run. I so love the trail because it’s a new trail built last year at the marina by the bay in Portland. The view is breathtaking. Second… It was a race for runners and their loyal bestfriends on leash. Yup, most of the runners ran with their dogs. It was awesome. It was cute. And it was totally wonderful.

Well, I don’t own a dog but I find them cute just like my little ones in school. Do you think it’s an odd way to compare the two? Well, I found this online contest about Puppies vs. Babies. It’s a contest where you vote for “who do you think is cuter – the puppies or the babies. It may sound ridiculous to compare the two but we are talking about cuteness here based on video and photos. Well, for me, I voted for the puppies since I don’t have a baby of my own. Though I don’t own a dog either, I still find the puppies cute because they don’t throw tantrums. [LOL] Just kidding.

I told my friend about it and she was so excited to submit photos of her puppy Chocolate Chips and her 8-month old baby Alexa hoping that she will bag the $5,000. Too bad submission time is over and the contest is now on it’s voting phase. She just voted and commented for now. But surely, she will join next time.
Well, this contest is really fun. So you… dog lovers and proud parents out there… why don’t you check out the Puppies vs. Babies online contest out and vote for your favorite photos of puppies and babies. You can also share your views or give your comment why you voted for the puppies or babies that you found cute. Voting is open until the 23rd of November. The winning puppy or baby will win $5,000. Isn’t it awesome? C’mon, let’s join the fun and get counted.
Well, it’s the time of the year where I usually get mails from my OB Gyne for my yearly pap smear and mammogram scheduling, our family Physician for my annual physical exams, and my Eye Doctor for my yearly eye check-up. And speaking of eye check-up, I am pretty sure that I will need a new pair of glasses. If only I can read without glasses, it would totally awesome.

I hate eyeglasses not only because it’s too uncomfortable but basically because they cost so much. My very first prescription reading eyeglasses cost more than a couple hundred bucks. And in this tough economy, I cannot afford a new pair.

Good thing I know a place where I can get cheap eyeglasses made of the latest modern materials. They may be cheap but trust me, they are fashionably stylist and made of high quality and latest modern materials. I found this prescription eyeglasses online store – ZENNI Optical and now I am ready for my eye check-up. Yup, I will go for my eye check-up and will ask my eye doctor for my latest result and will just use them to order my new pair. How cool is that?

Well, Zenni prescription glasses are cheap or rather, reasonable and affordable because they manufacture and market their own products directly from their factories. The extra cost that they would pay for middlemen, retail overhead and advertising save consumers a lot of dough. And with that, I am so ready to get a new pair of glasses for my deserving eyes and that my pocket can afford.

My Brothers

Guest post written by my buddy Angelo Cooper

I was over at my brother's the other day trying to catch the latest Cal game (Go Bears!) He said he'd just ordered service on www.tvbydirect.com, so we were able to watch the Bears smash Utah. I wouldn't have been able to catch the game otherwise, being all the way over here on the east coast. Now, I'm thinking of ordering it for my own place! It'll become a family tradition! My brother is completely obsessed with all things sports, I honestly don't know how he ever gets anything done! Saturdays are for watching college football, and Sunday is for watching the pros go at it. The rest of the week is for talking about what happened at the games last weekend, and for predicting what will happen during the next weekend's games.

THAT’s What I’m Talking About!

I may not be a “businessman businessman” but I know how important advertising is to one’s business. I recently launch my craft-slash-hobby-slash-small business online and boy, I was totally amazed how hard it is to really get it going. There are lots of stuff that I really need to do aside from producing or manufacturing of the product. That part is actually the easiest. Getting it into the market or introducing it to the market to reach the consumer is really the name of the game.

Now, I am wondering how much more if I have a real business where I put a lot of my effort, time and investment. That I know needs an honest-to-goodness advertising to be able to get recognized in the market. With my hobby I am just eyeing for seasonal craft fairs and not really thinking of venturing into something huge. It’s just a hobby that I enjoy. But for those of you who are really putting a huge amount of investment into your business, you need a real Advertising Agency to help you achieve your goal and make profit.

Good thing there is That Company, a Leading Advertising Agency that can help you promote your business in a very effective and creative way. That Company can provide your business the most effective and creative advertising campaigns with measurable and positive results. Their teams of highly skilled advertising professionals are the best in using mixed media that can effectively help you from public relations to media buying to search engine optimization to event promotions.

What are you waiting for? Check out ThatAdvertisingAgency.com and get your business move faster to achieve your goal.

Getting ready with my Christmas List

Christmas is just around the corner and it means shopping for presents. She works as caregiver so she needs them for work. I make it sure that every year she gets a new
set of scrubs for work.

If you are or any of your love ones or friends a caregiver… Blue Sky Scrubs are the best so why not check them out.

Fall

Written by Sherri Hicks

Fall, my favorite season, was finally on the horizon! It meant cooler weather, cozier clothing and one of my favorite sports, football. My boyfriend had just moved in with me and, since I currently only had Internet and no cable, this was one of the first things on the list. I asked him if he would get my computer and go to www.TvByDirect.com to schedule an appointment for our cable to be set up. Since it was only pre-season, we had a little bit of time before the regular season started. I realized that neither one of my teams, college or NFL, were among the most talented of the bunch, but I was always excited to watch, regardless. That being said, I’m not sure if it was the actual sport or simply the atmosphere that contributed to my love of the crisp fall weather. Although I have made a valiant effort to learn more about the rules and regulations of football, I have to admit that I lean toward thinking it’s simply a side dish to the main course!

FlipFlops

Love wearing them. All opinions are 100% mine.

In this age and time, technology has not only changed the way we communicate but how we live our lives as well. Communication is a way of life so to speak and to be able to reach out to people, we need tools that are efficient, effective and cost less.

Yes, in this tough economy we need to be able to make the most of our money and save for our future that is why Tracfone is a big help because it costs very little to get all members of the family a Tracfone so they can stay in touch, specially this summer.

So if you are looking for a great way to save money and still get connected… the Tracfone is one way to go. Why? Because TracFone has so many features:
I had to admit, it has been a great summer for us weather and time, wise. Hubby and I spend most of our weekends this year up the mountain camping and gold panning. But when summer is over… this means we will be staying home again doing our regular weekend activity – movie marathon on “Direct TV” and enjoying tons of popcorn and beer.

In a week’s time, kids will be back in school and vacationing is over. This means that we will be out of the house most of the time again working hard or in my case, running outdoors when I can or if weather-permitting. So, this could also mean that we will leave our home empty which could be a great opportunity for burglary. But I don’t worry much about it because “home security auburn” gives me the peace of mind I need. And all I have to do is enjoy every minute working and running outdoors[ to shed the pounds off that I will be putting on from eating popcorn and drinking beer] until it’s time again to be with my hubby at the end of the day.

Ah… what a summer, indeed!

Confession of an Alien

Unknown to many, an immigrant here in the US is called "alien". That is what the "A" stands for when you get your Green Card. The letter A is followed by a series of number which became your permanent ID number. Yes, we "aliens" are "numbered". hahahaha

[Me, 4 years ago.]

It sounds a little discriminating at first but eventually I got used to it and it didn't really affect me that much. It's just a little disturbing though knowing what "alien" really means to "earthlings". LOL

When I came here 4 years ago, I really felt like an alien. When I go in the grocery, kids would stare at me either in pure bewilderment or animosity. I can't blame them, I don't look ordinary like most of the people they see around them. When I open my mouth to speak, people had to say "What's that again?" because they can't understand my "alien accent" or they probably thought I was speaking in "tongues". And yes, nobody can actually tell me apart from other Asian people living in our area because we "aliens" practically look alike. hahaha

After four years of doing my grocery in the same store, I finally realized the other day that I am an "alien" no more. Or maybe, I still am. It's just that those people I meet every weekend when I do my grocery shopping got used to seeing me hovering from isle to isle browsing on every items on the sale list. I probably look familiar already because they don't give me a bewildered look and even say "hi" and would even stop to say "how yah doin?" And yes, kids now smile at me whenever I pass by.

Normally, it will only take me about thirty minutes to get done with my grocery shopping. That is when I won't be reading all the back labels of all the stuff I wanted to buy. But recently, it takes me more than two hours to do my errand simply because I would bump to some people I know and would chat for an average of 30 minutes. Yes, and this happens most of the time. It would even take more than 10 minutes for me to finish my bank transactions in the bank [which is located inside the grocery too] because I would have a chat with the Teller. And yes, Lindsey, my bank Teller and I are in "first name basis". We would even chat and catch up even if we see each other some place else.

[Me, with my "Earthling" friends.]

My Two Questions:

1. Did you ever feel like an alien or a foreigner in your own home?

2. How did you deal with the feeling of being alienated?

It's been four years now since I left the Philippines and have not been back since then. Oh how I miss home. And though Maine is my home now... I still feel homesick being at home. Maybe next year... I might go back for a visit. But for now... Maine is home and I am no longer an Alien.

What is summer without the aid of some awesome outdoor furniture around our house that made our sunny and not-so-sunny days complete? Yes, outdoor furniture is an essential part of my outdoor experience. Oh how I love lounging in our port in the middle of the day having a cold glass of homemade lemonade with sweet mint leaves from my herb garden while watching the birds feeding on my feeders or facebooking on my lappy. lol

There is nothing great than watching the sunset with my Hubby on our nice colorful and comfy Adirondack chairs and talking about how our day was.

There is nothing more exciting than having a weekend cookout at the backyard and enjoying lunch with friends around our Picnic Tables and feasting on lobsters. Yum!

There is nothing really fun than sitting on our Park Benches nicely placed under the maple trees lining our driveway and waiting for the mailman.

And there is nothing sweeter than listening to the laughter of the kids playing around the new playground equipment that we have installed early this spring.

Ah, summer. You will soon be over but all these special furniture that bear witness to all the fun and joy you bring will always be a part of our lives. Sure we will still enjoy all of this outdoor furniture one more season. They will surely bear witness again to another yet colorful and majestic New England Fall but it will not be long. Winter will pass and before long, it will be time to enjoy outdoors again… and life goes on with a little help from Terra Bound Solutions.

Spending Diet

Okay... this may sound ridiculous or disturbing perhaps but I am done. I am done going crazy with shopping and spending.

No, it's not official that I am turning my back on shopping. Who doesn't love shopping? It's the best therapy in the whole world. Expensive though. Wink*

But yes, it's official, I am on a "spending diet". It's the best I could do to trim my budget. Hard though. LOL

So how do I do that? I leave all my credit cards at home every time I go out. I can't trust myself when I am in a store. The safest thing to do is to keep them away from me and out of my sight so that I won't be tempted to get lured by the subliminal message hidden behind the sign - SALE 70% OFF.

But still, at the back of my mind I know that they are there... tuck neatly in my jewelry box. So there is still a great danger. And it scared me out of my wits.

And so, one day I came to my senses and cut them all up.

Whew... that was easy!

P.S. The following day, I received a replacement card from one of them companies. Isn't the weird or destiny? hahaha. And oh by-the-way, I still go shopping... grocery shopping. We need to eat, you know. Wink. Have a wonderful weekend.

My Sewing Machine

I bought a mini sewing machine recently. I have been wanting to fix my jammies because they are too long for me and I always trip when I am wearing them. So I found this very small, battery-operated sewing machine for 15 bucks and I was so happy. I bought it and next thing I knew, I was buying fabric for curtains too.

So I tried to sew curtains. Ok, if you are wondering if I have any qualifications to sew anything... my answer is YES. My mom was the best dressmaker in town. She was the most sought-after wedding dressmaker in our little town and her reputation is flawless. She made practically most of the wedding dresses of the brides in our town. Too bad, she was already long gone when it was my turn to be a bride. [I shouldn't have waiting too long to get married. lol]

And this morning I was working on the ruffles of the curtains when all of a sudden one of the parts of the sewing machine flew off. And there goes my project. And no... I am not going to sew them by hands.

End of the story.

My Two Questions:

1. Is there project that you like to do for fun?

2. How do you react when the project you are working on didn't come out as you expected?

P.S. Just so you know... I will try to find that "part" first thing tomorrow morning so I can continue my project. wink*

Thought of sharing it with you. Oh by the way... can anyone tell me the name of this flower? I am ignorant on this department. LOL Thanks.
