My ode to crop tops

Never in my wildest dream would I think to wear cropped tops again as it is making a huge come back this summer. Where I live its practically summer year around but cropped tops are somewhat of a taboo as we live in a very conservative country, and at my age, cropped tops are no longer a typical fashion option. With all do respect to my excuses, I have to admit, there is something about showing the tinsiest tiniest bit of skin around the waist area and so I challenged myself in wearing one without looking vulgar and exaggeratedly trying hard to be youthful. I looked through my wardrobe and see what i can come up with.

Found a Forever 21 stripped top but it wasn't quite the look I was going for. I look further and found a purple spaghetti strap top with ruffles and my high waist jeans from the 90's I tell you, my @lovenikitaph accessories, my flip flop from Baler and my look is complete.

So what do you think? Have I gone way over board my limits? Have shown way too much skin? Am I trying too hard? well, I'm loving it cause it does help me keep cool under the kinda weather we've been having here lately.

If nothing else, I just wish to have inspired some of you to step out of your comfort zones and be creative. Thanks for stopping by and I hope its been an enjoyable read. Til next time!

6 Months and Counting....

I had intended on documenting my last year in my thirties but alas life has a way of moving forward and not making the time on my own as oppose to having free time to actually start the documentation had been my life the last six months which brings me to the present.... NOW, I am making that time 6 months in to the last year of my 30's. Yes, 30's, please, let’s all try to keep it a secret. ;D

These last 6 months has been kind of a whirlwind.... it just came and gone, very much like the last 39 and 1/2 years of my life. I can't say a lot has happened but I do appreciate each day that passed.

To somewhat catch you up though, there was a small time business that I had no choice but to stop, my Dad's hospitalization, Holidays, the birth of Maxie's 5 pug pups, trips to some far off and not so far destinations, birthday celebrations, yet another small business venture cause you know you can't just give up and the daily routines of life in general. It may not seem much but to a simple girl like me it is quite a handful. I'm just really thankful for my supportive parents, my loving and understanding fiancé, and our trusty and dependable house help Cathy that I am able to cope with life. I may seem weak and fragile and admittedly I am. I know it’s not an excuse but I do try every single day to be a better person than the day before cause I can only live a day at a time.

As much as I’d like to really document my life I am opting to just living it, selectively sharing the moments, events or what have you with fashion, health and beauty with the rest of you. Thank you for the few of you for sticking around, staying to read and enjoy what I have to say cause sometimes words are not easy for me to say.

By George the end of November is here and Christmas is just right around the corner and it didn't even phase me up until recently. I was so hoping to post more this month but unfortunately life has a way of unfolding right before your eyes and all other things, blog included set aside. With that said, i want to end this month with good news cause you know there is already enough bad news written in the local newspaper and televised news. So here is my good news...

I WON yet another giveaway! It feels good to win you know and I want to share the feeling with you. A couple of month ago lovenikita hosted her 1st giveaway to launch her new page Love Nikita. I've been a follower of hers for quite awhile and I love her crochet creations, (try saying that 10 times fast, crochet creations, crochet creations, crochet creations..... sorry) her tassel earrings, and other accessories she painstaking crochets with much joy I'm sure. I decided to join in the cause to be honest who doesn't want free stuff, and cute accessories and whatnot at that.

It's just plain Black and White

Lately I've been noticing myself magnetized to wearing black and white a lot lately. I don't know exactly where I'm drawing the need from but I tend to dress in black and white. From a black and white wool herringbone shorts, a plain white t-shirts, tank tops, black jeans, black flats, wedges, and sandals, they would be either, black and white, just black, or just white. And I'm finding it a little disturbing not in a bad way just been really trying to get color into my wardrobe and I just ultimately take the black tank top, white shorts, or the black and white zebra alegrias sandals that are most comfortable btw.

Another thing the Philippines hasn't the most comfortable weather or atmosphere to be wearing black as it is too hot and black would just roast me alive or white cause of the smog that I feel like if i walked out in white I would return in a completely brown outfit but I guess that would be an exaggeration, it is however my opinion for the most part.

But then again as I think long and hard about it what could possibly be wrong with wearing black and white, it's a timeless classic combination, I am, as I read up on my blog list that I am in good company. Take for instance Sandra from 5inchandup.blogspot.com, and Rowan from redreidinghood.blogspot.com. With that in mind, it has not stopped me from doing so and loving every minute that I do. I just get really OC about where I go when I do go out in the said colors or the lack thereof. Check out these two ladies in their blogs for more inspiration as I look to them for my black and white inspirations.

Casual Cool if I do say so myself.

My fiance's niece celebrated her 7th birthday with a party and and what better way to be dressed in than something loose and comfortable right. I figured games were going to be played and I needed to have that extra room as well for the delicious food. So I dressed in a loose sheer black tank top with a front panel that hangs from my right shoulder to the waist which by the way is from my stylish Godmother Monserrat. She also was kind enough to give me the red leather Coach bag. I paired them with the blue chambray harem pants from my fashionista Aunt Celina and black leather and snake skin flats from Primadonna which i totally adore from my awesome possum mother dear. Yes yes and yes... my whole outfit was gifted/sponsored, hahaha and it isn't even my birthday. Don't I feel special. Anyway this is just my way of thanking them and showing them how much i appreciate their fashion senses. I may not have picked it all up just yet but I am seriously working on it. I wish i had taken more picture but the party was so much fun i forgot.

I love this outfit. I would definitely wear again to another occasion for sure paired with outer articles of clothing in my collection and next time Imma going photo crazy. ;D

This is one of the main reasons why i have been MIA-ing. You've already read about the other reasons but this one was one that relieved all the stresses and yes there has been many as you will see with my collection.

Who said you need friends to collect friendship bracelets? It was originally the idea but none of my friends has the time or the skills to do them. You can say i'm addicted and gladly so cause i am making my world beautiful one friendship bracelet at a time. I have shared with a few friends and family members cause they are very hard to part with especially knowing how much time that goes into them and the thoughts that poured out when i made each one. Thought about selling them but as i mentioned parting is such sweet sorrow i can't bare so until i can make them without attachment i'm afraid i will grow quite a bit of a collection.

This is what i started of with. I had no idea it would become so addicting making them.

I call this the rainbow collection, for when you need a rainbow at arms reach cause you know sometimes it can rain all day and the rainbow after is too far to see.

this set i gave away to a godson and his girl friend and my aunt.

Mom's watch needed a new watch band and i thought why don't i just make her one. ;D

Recently discovered the flip flop zigzag pattern and i can't seem to stop making them as well. these are the ones i have left for myself.

These are a few of my favorite ones i made that i wear quite often.

I also find them decorative contained in a glass container with all the colors amplified through the glass.

Another way I store them is wrapped around an empty beer bottle. Now don't go drinking up all the beer, find an empty one already. This bottle kinda has sentimental value, it's the last bottle of beer i drank new years i think. anyway haven't had an alcoholic beverage since then not that i was ever an alcoholic or anything.

Anyway, i hope they have been fun to look at as much as i had fun making them. now go and create your own collection. You can learn to make friendship bracelets through an awesome

So i'm thinking it's better late than never... here is the ever late promised post regarding my shorts haul I posted here http://ruvicbe.blogspot.com/2012/06/collective-haul.html.

RED SHORTS: Here, I've paired my red shorts with a white spaghetti strap top and black Fitflop, DIY tassel earrings made by yours truly and a stack of bracelets. Don't you just love the back of the chair i was sitting on at an ice cream/cake shop we visited a while back called BAKE AND CHURN at SM Marilao.

LEVI'S CROPPED SHORTS: I just love these, the look of a really short short but not too revealing. Paired with a hand me down ruffled sleeveless blouse with the tiniest blue flowers, a strawberry scented red belt and brown Fitflop, I totally feel sweet with a touch of edge.

LEOPARD PRINT SHORTS: My first ever animal print shorts paired with a skinny silver belt and pewter Fitflop and heather grey tank top..

Due to a natural calamity, start of a small business, a few family members getting sick and my tablet (that contains most of the pictures i want to post about) not being able to sinc with my lap top, this is all I was able to come up with in photos not to mention a few Polyvore post. I seriously don't mean to disappoint or lag behind on my blog post but i hope you all understand that sometimes life really does get in the way, though I'm not complaining.

I know, I know, I've been MIA-ing lately but having a small street food business was not as easy as I though and as time consuming at that. I hope you can find it in your kind hearts to forgive me, to make it up to you I've got pretty awesome finds. It's been really hot lately as I'm sure you've gathered in the last few post I've made and so shorts are the major items of my post.

For instance, I found these Limited cropped tailored pants that I decided to crop as shorts. They are absolutely dreamy thought the pictures don't show, they are a perfect creamy lavender, I haven't played around on how I would wear them. I actually plan on taking them in some cause they are quite loose.

My next find was this cropped Levi's with the pockets peeking through, I plan to wear them with these pretty dainty sleeveless top, strawberry scented plastic belt in red and some neutral sandals if not red ones I've yet to purchase.

These next two shorts are kind of special, one is of my favorite color red and the other is in my favorite print, leopard.

These red shorts are nautical inspired with button on either sides. It comes with pockets hidden with the buttons as closure so you'll be sure objects won't be lifted out. ;D I plan to wear them rolled up with printed top and silver skinny belt and wedges.You know the best part is that it's Ann Taylor and I got it for the mere price of Php35, that like way less than a US dollar... wow!

Here is a fun one for you! Leoapard printed shorts I've been eyeing since I last saw it. It as the last pair and by God when I returned a week later to purchase them. they were still available, fate is what I say it is. It was meant to be mine and now they are. I originally planned on wearing these with a hooded top silver skinny belt and my Fitflop Pietra but I ended up wearing it with a different option as you will see later on the post.

I know I'm a little late for spring colors but like I said I've been busy and I just got my hands on these babies. Aren't they just the sweetest colors. I'm so ready to rock them soon.

These are the two belts for a closer look. I purchesed the silver belt at Folded and Hung for Php100, a local fashion botique while I bought the red one at one of the street vendors at Quiapo for Php50, a steal wouldn't you say? ;D

So today this is what I ended up wearing leopard print shorts heather grey tank top with the silver skinny belt and Pewter Pietra Fitflops. Didn't turn out too bad, just right for the summer heat. ;D

I also decided to do the black crackled polish over silver glittery polish.

Well, I hope it has been worth all the wait. I will definitely keep you posted when I do wear the other outfits. ;D

Hello fellow bloggers! I just couldn't wait to share this white on white outfit with everyone. The weather has been extremely hot and steamy and this white crochet tank top and white shorts was the perfect answer to this weather. The net effect of the crochet let the cool air in while keeping me dry from sweat, staying fresh as the heat rises, what more can I ask for right?

This is my DAD. my look-a-like minus the tassel earrings and hair.

It's his 65th Birthday and I wanted to look nice without having to get all dressed up. The delicate design of my tank top is just so dainty and feminine while the loose trouser style of my shorts gives it a more tailored look cinched with a vintage leather belt that my uncle once owned. Casual and dressy at the same time. bring on the guest, and a change of shoes, I'm ready to party. teeheehee. Well a small dinner party for my Dad's 65th Birthday.

I accessorized my outfit with a few of my favorite pieces like my DIY tassel earrings, my DIY zipper bracelets and DIY friendship bracelet. Included in my stack of bracelets are my ID and charm bracelets.

Reason 1:

On the Job Training

This 1st photo is of my friend and myself, we both trained (On the Job Training) as housekeepers at a local motel and while taking a break we took pictures in the laundry room. Back story is that we studied a short course under TESDA to receive our National Certificate Housekeeping Training Certificate.

Tassel Earrings

As I have previously posted out tassel earrings, here are more.... I'm obsessed! I can't seem to stop making them. Thinking of putting them up for sale but I love them all and I can't seem to part with them. teeheehee.

Reason 3:

Marcos' Grande Reunion

We attended a family reunion. Erick's relatives are apparently in the same lineage as the Marcos' as in Former President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos.

Reason 4:

Erick's 3 days Birthday Celebration

Day 1, dinner gathering on the night before his birthday with his co-workers.

Day 2, on Erick's actual birthday day, we went swimming with a couple of his buddies, Cute and Louie, a bunch of great guys.

That's me on the right, zip lining with my friend's wife, Koni. We actually just met that same day and really wanted to try zip lining and so we did. What a ride it was.

Here is the birthday boy, my love, Erick.

Day 3, Erick took my family out to lunch at Fotune, a local chinese Hong Kong style restaurant.

The food was indeed delicious.

BARBECUE

Yes, yes, we decided to to start back up a barbeque business. Our house help has some mad cooking, grilling skills and thus it was inevitable that we start a foodie business.

our menu special is this barbeque on sticks. we also serve a variety of food that is skewered on sticks and barbecued over a grill.

May has been very whirlwind busy for me but I must admit, it's been most fun and worth while.

I hope everyone is having just as good of May that I am having.

IT RAINED... IT POURED...

...and thankfully so. I was starting to wonder when April shower would come... It rained, barely, maybe 4 times in the last month that only made the heat more unbearable in our part of the world. Today though, the 1st of May, thank GOD, it rained just enough to cool the weather off.

I posted a picture on Instagram with a similar photo below with a caption "saying a little prayer before going to sleep" with no particular request in mind. But since rain has been very rare and the heat a constant problem this past month, I feel a connection of the post to the rain that poured out today. ;D God works in msyterious ways right and so why not right cause its been said that if you ask you shall receive

and I think that it is true. ;D

And so I'm sure you know what else they say after a rain....

waiting for April Shower

For reals... April is nearly over and we haven't had much rain. I guess it's okay rather than getting too much of it and that would mean a flood for me. So I thank GOD just the same. While i sit here steaming cause it is rather HOT, I thought I'd share my outfit of the day.

I'm wearing a couple of DIYs. My crochet and yoyo flower necklace and my zipper bracelets. I haven't actually done a DIY on my necklace cause it is somewhat more complicated but I do have one for my zipper bracelets that you can checck out. ;D They are great alone or stacked with other bracelets.

So the sun has been ruling the skies lately and under the shades of a tree is always the best way to stay cool. So this in our mini mango tree that's yet to bear fruits but I can wait. It is what I'm good at.

I'm also wearing two of my favorite go to items. My Gap white scooped neck T-shirt and sailor pants inspired shorts. Lastly, my alegria sandals in zebra print just to let the animal out in me and may I add that it is as good as walking on barefoot. :D

my summer color block

Summer is on! Its been steaming hot lately. I feel like my brain is roasting in my skull and it is my only excuse for not posting lately. So to make it up, here is my summer color blocking. From my DIY pink tassel earrings, violet sun dress and blue cropped vest. Decided to wear a nude color wedge to not over do the color blocking.

Now I know I said it's steaming hot so why am i wearing a cropped vest? I get cold real easily and this is just my option in case I end up at the local or anywhere else that I might need it.

I tried doing one of those sock buns and this was the result, not too bad but I will work on it to tweak the style a bit more.

so here is the thing... the cropped vest was cut off from what is pictured above. its just way too hot to wear a full vest so the best solution was to cut it in half and wear it cropped. The bottom half is the original color, I just dyed it blue because it had blue stains on the back. doesn't show up to much but it is actually ombre with a lighter blue shade on the shoulder area and darker blue towards the chest area.

We tried out a DIY sock turned chihuahua wear with a Halloween inspired design. It was a lost sole, ( we seemed to have lost the other pair) so it was destined for chihuahua fashion. Looks like someone is ready for Halloween right?

Mixing prints is really not my thing but trying new things this season is one of my goals. A lot of girls and even some guys can get a way with it and I can totally appreciate the look but I really don't know... going with the same colors helped me cross the line with my striped top and floral print skorts but I'm not quite convinced. what do you think about mixing prints?

Featuring: mullet tank top and pink DIY tassel earrings

This is what i like to call the mullet tank top from New Found Happiness, a brand from a local shop called People are People. I love it so much I bought my mom one too in grey. I will feature that another day.

No time today to do the DIY but I will get to it. In the meantime though, I hope you like my outfit as much as I do.

Black and White Make-Shift Dress

How I did this?

I pulled up my skirt up to my chest and wore a black cotton bra over it. Done! (Ya just got to make sure that the waist of your skirt fits firmly around your chest or you could have a majorly embarrassing situation in your future like your skirt/dress around your ankles, teeheehee, you don't want that. ;D In my case, it was a tad bit loose and when I sit, it pulls down the back un-tucking the waist of the skirt out under the bra. But no worries, I was just hanging around the house so it was OK, I would just tuck the back right back in)

What I'm wearing:

Bra as outer-wear : Calvin Klein

Skirt : Mix Nouveau

Footwear: Shoebox ballet flats

Nails : Fuchsia colored polish (no brand)
