The federal government will re-open the 3rd Mainland Bridge today Tuesday October 30th, one week ahead of the November 6th scheduled date of re-opening. The longest bridge in West Africa, which connects Lagos Island to the mainland, was partially closed in early July to allow for thorough repair works that cost the government one billion Naira.

The hilarious comedy 'Okon Goes To School' is set to hit cinemas on November 16th! The much anticipated sequel to 'Okon Lagos' - 'Okon Goes to School' will be showing in cinemas nationwide on that date.

The movie which was written and produced by Uduak Isong Oguamanam, has Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen as director. It stars the very hilarious Imeh Bishop Umoh, Moses Armstrong, Belinda Effah to name a few.

Synopsis: After Okon, an eccentric hunter, wastes a fortune on wine and women, he enrols in university to learn money management. What he doesn't bargain for is cultism and women trouble. And what school doesn't bargain for is Okon and his crazy antics.

Teacher flogs 12-year-old student to death in Anambra state

A 12-year-old student of a secondary school in Awka, Anambra State, Miss Chidimma Ukachukwu, has died after she was allegedly flogged by her teacher for failing to do her homework.

A reliable source in the school told the News Agency of Nigeria in Awka on Tuesday that the girl died on Thursday last week after she was flogged. The source explained that the girl fainted after being flogged severally by a female teacher and was subsequently rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where she died.

Haven't they banned corporal punishment in Nigerian schools? Why are some teachers still flogging? WTH? Please continue...

The source also told NAN that the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Uju Okeke, then ordered the closure of the school as a result of the incident.

A NAN correspondent, who visited the girl’s family home, soon after she was buried on Tuesday in Awka, reports that the family was in grief.

The girl’s father, Mr. Simeon Ukachukwu, confirmed the incident, saying it was a sad development. He added that it was an act of God.

But when Okeke was contacted, she denied ordering the closure of the school and said that the school was on midterm break.

NAN investigation, however, revealed that schools in the state were not on midterm break.

This fact was corroborated by an official of the Nigerian Union of Teachers in Akwa South Local Government Area.

The Chairperson of the union in the local government, Miss Buife Ndigwe, told NAN that primary and secondary schools in the state would go on midterm break next week.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr. Ralph Uzoigwe, said that the matter had not been reported to the police, but promised that it would be investigated.

Cabbie Nicolae Stan, 34, claimed stunning Luminita Perijoc, 30, then threatened to kill him unless he agreed to perform another sex act.
Married dad-of-three Nicolae said: “Later she still stabbed me.”
He finally escaped after barricading himself in a bedroom and desperately calling cops on his mobile phone.

INSPIRATION

My name is Joshua Aimien Okungbowa from a village called Egbesan in Igwueben Local Government Area of Edo state in Nigeria.

This is my story!

I always knew that I will be successful in life in fact, I expect to have achieved more than this in my chosen career. My inspiration is this, when God created man, He gave man dominion. Jesus also reiterated this by telling us that greater works shall we do being that the bible calls us signs and wonders.

SPIRITUALITY

I am a spirit filled Born Again Christian. Being a true worshiper and follower of Jesus Christ does not retard you rather it promotes you, it adds value to life. The life we live is God-given. There is nothing we own today that does not come from God. Therefore, the foundation of our success MUST be laid on God. I state emphatically that it is in following Christ that I have achieved excellence in life.

BACKGROUND

I was never born with a silver spoon, not even a bronze (General Laughter). There was nothing like electricity, pipe borne water or any other social amenity then in my village in Egbesan in Igwueben, Edo state when I was born. My parents never had the luxury of western education but they were very vast in the word of God. My father was a catechist, an honest man who taught and inculcated in us the basics and values of life where you are not material or position driven. I did my Primary and Secondary education there in my village. You have no shoes or even slippers to put on yet we survived excellently well. And my tertiary education was at University of Benin.

I always knew that life is what you make out of it, part of the trainings I got from my dad, I wish he were alive today to see what God has blessed me with.

During my Secondary school, I was privileged to come across a book by Robert Schuller ‘’Tough times never last but tough people do’’, the book turned me inside out, changed my mentality and inspired in me the unquenchable drive to excel in life. From the book, I learnt that tomorrow is better than today so I wrote it and pasted on my bedside, THE BEST IS YET TO COME and it kept me going stronger by the day, I recommend that book for every growing person.

WAS THERE A TIME YOU WANTED TO GIVE UP WHILE GROWING UP?

NO. There was a time when I had to tap rubber, went rabbit hunting just to pay my tuition fee. I did all manner of menial jobs just to get it right. So, there is always something genuine to do at every point in life. My anger with today’s youth is that they see you today and believe that is where they should start from, it’s absurd. Diligence, the fear of God and humility are the ingredients you require to keep going in life because there are people who are there to help you at every point in your life but by the time you appear bigger than them, how can that work. Example, a chap comes to tell you, I have no money to pay my school fees, I need help yet you see such a person with the most expensive galaxy phone, blackberry, Brazilian hair (General laughter) how do you take such a one serious?

BALANCING THE FAMILY AND CAREER

God is my all in all. As I look at my wife on a daily basis, I feel indebted to her. I try to fathom ways to appreciate her and say ’Thank You’ in a way that she will understand the depth of my gratitude. Once upon a time recently I had time to reflect on it and tears of joy just filled my eyes. My wife Cordelia is an amazing woman. God used and still uses her to balance it and my children are God’s gifts. So, when I tell you that God is my all in all, I mean every word of it.

WHAT WILL YOU LEAVE BEHIND FOR YOUR CHILDREN?

A good name! Houses fade, riches vanish. The prayer of a good parent is that their children will be better than them, this is mine also. I have laid the foundation so they should continue from there when the time presents itself.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR BOOK

It is titled ‘Exceptional Service Principles’. This is one book every well meaning youth should have and read. We should see life as Service! Service! Service! And stop the worship of money. Again, there is no excuse for failure. The best is yet to come. Through Perseverance, positive thought you will attain the best.

SPEAKING TO THE YOUTH

We must watch our desires, be careful and add caution in our relationship with the opposite sex. There is time for everything. Youths should know that money will always come to that person who is diligent. After doing all that you ought to do, there is a natural force that brings reward. Again, you have to be passionate about life, find out within you what you are passionate about and follow through with that inner drive.

HOW DO YOU GIVE BACK TO SOCIETY

At the moment, we have quite a number of beneficiaries in our scholarship scheme ranging from Primary, to Secondary and to University; also I have some up for private businesses, I organize seminars in my church free for the youths and empower them as the case may be.

RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR STAFFS

Maybe in the next book I will write I will title it ‘what they say about me’ (General laughter). Well, to the best of my knowledge, my staffs know that I am hard but at the same time Open minded, that I do no accept excuse for failure and do not pamper people for doing wrongs because the Bible say, spare the rod and spoil the child but not kill, and when you do excellent, we blow the trumpet and celebrate you. What they say when I am not around, well its up to them but I know that initially they will be happy but after sometime, the calls and the texts starts coming in, ‘Oga when are you coming back’ (General laughter0 well, I think you should ask them. Sincerely speaking, I know they are happy with me because where they are now is not where they use to be, honestly believe me, if nothing has changed in their life, they know that it is not right to give up, they know now that fear destroys, they now view life from a positive perspective and they know there tomorrow is bright as long as they continue in the way I have taught them to.
