It was a lovely village wedding. Vanessa & Jacob had hired a huge Sperry Tent from the brilliant folks at Papakata and had it erected in a field a stone’s throw from their beautiful self-built home in the stunning village of Whixley, York, and they were married in the church just over the fence from their back garden. After the service they jumped into their wedding motor and sped off through the local country lanes – pursued at a distance by a couple of photographers, one hanging dangerously out of the passenger window! After some couple photos Vanessa & Jacob pulled up outside their beautifully dressed Sperry and it was time for the party to begin. And some party it was! Sun, laughter, tears, great food, plenty of summer liquid refreshment, brilliant speeches and a really impressive band that had the dancefloor heaving.

It was a fantastic day and we loved capturing it all for them. Congratulations to a truly lovely couple and happy honeymoon in Italy!

It was an unforgettable day and blindingly obvious for everyone to see how much in love Laura & Richard are. Which is convenient given they both now share that very surname! They had a very moving marriage service at the church in Middleton Tyas followed by an impressive party at Middleton Lodge – featuring one of the funniest and most original best men’s speeches we’ve heard.

The sun was out on Saturday for Ellie and Aiden – accompanied by some serious wind which saw us at one point chasing through the ruins of Bolton Abbey after Ellie’s veil! Outside photos were kept to a minimum as a result – until the evening when the wind finally subsided – but with the internal space and light afforded by both venues this was of little importance.

It was an emotional day – lots of tears and even more laughter – and it was an absolute joy to capture. Here are just a few of the many highlights.

Anna & Andy’s families are Vietnamese and Chinese respectively and it was only 4 days previously that we’d had huge fun photographing their family wedding celebrations in Leeds. Colourful, chaotic and wonderful doesn’t seem to quite cover it. More of that in a future post, for now we’ll concentrate on the “British leg” of their wedding.

The wedding took place in one of Denton Hall’s ornate, spacious front rooms before a drinks Reception in the Spring sunshine overlooking the lake. High fives to Andy and particularly Anna for being game to navigate the steep hill and the roaming sheep in their wedding finery for photos.

The food was….amazing. Andy asked us to photograph it for them and luckily we weren’t then faced with having to send it back to the kitchen. It was devoured!

A wonderful day from start to finish. Such a lovely couple, fun and friendly family and friends, and a spectacular setting. Enjoy some of the highlights from the morning preparations through to the evening party.

Becky, Chris and friends spent all day Friday decorating the barn – see for yourself what a stunning job they did. Watch out for the beautiful lights, the personal touches, the heartwarming speeches, and very cute kids and a whole lot of fun on the bouncing pillows. We thoroughly enjoyed capturing every moment.

Seriously, the Tour de Yorkshire had caused a few logistical headaches – particulary for Sarah and her bridal party who were getting ready at York’s Hotel du Vin before heading to the Hospitium for the wedding ceremony. The race stewards were fantastic though and made sure that we all got there with plenty of time to spare. Caroline and the boys meanwhile had a much more relaxed and road closure-free time down at the Hospitium and then over a few drinks at The Star Inn The City.

Sarah’s creative flair is all over this wedding. From the swallow design stationary to the cakes and even the dress. Also look out for the most wonderful flowers from Fiona Hogg Floral Design. Dress by House of Mooshki.

Sarah & the bridesmaids had been at the hairdressers and were walking back up to the hotel just as one of the first races of the day came past.

And so to the ceremony between the pillars of one of York’s most beautiful buildings. It was very moving. Surrounded by a forest of garden flowers, Sarah & Joe read wonderful vows to each other, full of thought, wit and love, and the announcement of their marriage was met with thunderous applause.  A couple of drinks and literally hundreds of congratulatory hugs and kisses later, we hit the Museum Gardens and the riverside for some bride and groom photos. We love photographing newly married couples out in public. People just stop in their tracks with big silly smiles on their faces. Check out the tourists below whose selfie with Sarah & Joe was clearly the highlight of their day!

More of Sarah’s creative flair could be witnessed upstairs in the wedding breakfast room, including home made cupcake favours and swallow-themed bunting.

Dinner and four excellent speeches were followed by the start of the evening reception and a bit of Smashing Pumpkins first dance action.

We split up in the morning and as Richard was photographing the girls getting ready in The Old Swan, Caroline (at four foot eleven) had the task of keeping up with a group of rather tall Coldstream Guards – to be fair she’d been looking forward to it for ages! Wedding services at Ripley church are special for us as this is where we were also married, and this was no exception. It was made even more special by a magnificent guard of honour as Cara and Chris stepped out into the sunshine as a married couple.

The quote of the morning goes to the couple of elderly ladies who were sitting in The Boar’s Head in Ripley when the boys walked in for a quick pre-church drink. They suddenly stopped chatting and one of them whispered to the other (well she thought it was a whisper) “gosh, it’s suddenly got very warm in here”…

Cara and many of her friends used to work together at Disney, and the little blue Mickey on the bottom of the shoe has become a bit of a tradition.

A surprise pre-church visit from Cara & Chris’ puppy had Cara fighting to protect her mascara.

On the way back to The Old Swan we stopped off in the centre of Harrogate for a few couple portraits around the Pumphouse and in the Valley Gardens. With Chris’ red uniform and Cara’s red shoes contrasting her stunning dress, they looked simply amazing and everyone stopped to watch. It was then back to the hotel for the celebrations to begin in earnest. Lots of fun and laughter at the drinks Reception, fantastic speeches after dinner with some hilarious stories from Chris’ military colleagues and a serious party in the evening.

We loved every minute of it and have so enjoyed working though some of the highlights to share with you today. Congratulations to Cara & Chris!

In this instance it’s also a very special place for Cara and Brett as Brett proposed here along the riverside. We had a beautiful sunny Winter’s day for the shoot and had a lovely morning wandering around some of the quieter spots of town – taking in the Minster, city walls, Museum Gardens and, of course, the river.
