So, there is this old classic FMV game called "Psychic Detective" that came out a long time ago for Playstation 1, 3D0, and PC (Dos). That game was really innovative and technically amazing. Even being so old, there really hasn't been anything like it to compare.

If you've made your way here through a google search, the game needs no introduction. If you're interested in finding out more about the game.. googlwikitube it. This article is how to get around the error message when trying to run the ISO and avoiding the process of burning the CDs. So.. here you go.

"The Cantina" - My Latest Flash Game

I started working on this game as a side project. For those who know me, it is based on another game I was working on called "Red Blockhead". This is more of an adult themed version of that original concept. Honestly, I'm not exactly sure of my goal with this project. If anything, I am doing it to freshen up on my flash skills as I have recently had more interest in game development. Also, I have been in the mood to complete some ideas and projects. This might also be the reason why I will be going back to school starting next month after a 10 year break :p

The story is about a man who accidentally kills his loving wife after a night of drinking at the bar. He covers up the killing and decides to bury his wife in the front yard of their summer vacation cabin. Because of her obvious burial place, it is not long before people in the town grow curious. Because of his alcoholic delirium, he starts to believe that everyone knows the truth behind his secret and are trying to kill him. He decides that he needs to leave town. Is he running from backwoods townspeople, or his own conscious? We will find out, after Fred finds his way back to THE CANTINA.

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to join a few coworkers for a nice little day hike here in Central California. One of the guys from work has taken a keen interest in hiking lately, and I am elated to be able to get out of the house, get some sunshine, some exercise, and some bug bites.

This trip was very short and did not take more than 3 hours hiking up and back. Since this is our first excursion, I think it is best that we take it easy and not try to mount Everest.

I will be documenting my hikes and treks throughout.. well, forever I guess.

Oh.. and I saw a tarantula :-o

Upon visiting a local music venue a few weekends ago called "Babylon", I was lucky enough to have my brain melted with some bad ass metal (Hymn of Rlyeh) and then reconstructed again with some amazing artwork and live painting from Gabriel Welch.

Even though I am not heavy into the art scene, I give myself credit for being able to spot and appreciate talent. Gabriel's work is top notch and really shows resemblance to another amazing local artist, Joshua Wigger.

I know very well what it feels like to have something taken from you against your will. Some victims are robbed in the middle of the night by having their car broken in to. Other victims may be held at gunpoint in an intimate exchange between them and their nemesis. Recently, I have had many friends family meet such an encounter. All this week, my Hollie and her company 'Silver House' have been attending the annual Hong Kong Electronics Fair in China. Silver House is a manufacturing and printing company based in Taipei, Taiwan. They specialize in designing and producing custom high quality bling crystal stickers and cases primarily for the iPhone & iPad. The electronics fair this week will mark the companies 3rd consumer electronic show this year. The Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Vegas, USA, the CeBIT Show in Hanover, Germany, and the team is currently displaying their amazing new 3D sticker technology in Hong Kong.

I have been receiving strange and anonymous voice mails of random guitar playing. I am not sure who is behind this, but I am starting to get freaked out (and highly motivated). Maybe if I compile them down into a song, they will stop.. but do I really want them to?

Android Void - Our first month.

Android Void is a mobile flash arcade for Android 2.2+ enabled phones. It is also my first real web development project.

I have always kept up with trending technology, and every once in awhile I'll have an idea for a website, video game, movie, or business. So far, I have not had the knowledge, technical ability, or foresight to really take one of my ideas to the next level.

Sometime in late April, Google announced that future version of their Android operating system would support Adobe Flash. Most people use Flash online to watch movies and play games. I immediately had the idea to create an online flash portal for mobile phones. I can recall when Adobe announced streaming video capabilities in web browsers, I immediately had the idea of people being upload their home movies through a single website and send them to friends and family . This was about the time YouTube was released.

So I let the idea sit in my head for about a month. During this time, I did a quite a bit of research on the technology and looked to see if anyone else was sharing my idea. At the time, nothing was online. Sometime in late may, a few sites popped up. The most popular are mobile version of two of main flash game portals; Mochigames (http://m.mochigames.com) and Kongregate (http://m.kongregate.com). There are also a few other amateur sites out there, but I won't mention them here due to reasons relating to Google ranking and direct competition.

Although the sites mentioned above contain great games (most of the games on AV), their mobile sites tend to lack any type of user login system, score tracking, or community involvement. This is where we fill the void. We offer all the best games from each of the sites listed above. Basically, we are a one stop shop for the best games, while also offering users to interact with the site and each other.

On June 1st, I purchased a generic flash games script online for $10. A few days later I created a post on AVScripts.net looking for help in modding the script and building the basis for Android Void. That post can be found here: http://www.forum.avscripts.net/showthread.php?t=5729

I hired soccercrazy195 for $100 on June 4th and we went straight to work prototyping and building the arcade. I created the design and layout, while soccercrazy did all of the back end code. I couldn't be happier with his work and he has proven to be a great collaborator. Version 1.0 of the page was complete on June 24th and the site went online. We worked for a few weeks after launch to iron out bugs and complete the forums section.

Officially, the current version of the site has now been online for 1 month.

When creating this website, I wanted to be able to stream my music without sending visitors to another page (MySpace Music, etc). As easy as that sounds, without your own web hosting, the task can be pretty annoying. Personally, I had a bad experience with MySpace Music deleting my account with all my uploaded music. They claimed that I was not the owner of the material and I was infringing on copyrights. Whatever, That site is dead anyway. I can't be alone, I'm sure plenty of musicians have gone through their share of crap with these types of services.

Do you want to create one of the those cool little custom icons for your website or blog? That's right, I'm talking about that little icon that shows up on most professional websites next to the URL and in the bookmark menu. Your site can be as cool as those sites! Follow the steps below to achieve pro status. Here is what you will need:

A graphics program to design your icon logo. I recommend Adobe Photoshop.
Somewhere to host your icon file in a permanent location. Plenty of sites offer this service free. Just do a Google search.

So, load up Photoshop or your favorite graphics program. The standard format for these icons is the infamous ICO file format. Photoshop actually doesn't output to a ICO, but you can still get by using PNG or GIF. We'll cover that in a moment. If you don't have Photoshop or something similar, plenty of freeware programs are available online. A really good free program is GiMP. You can find out more about GiMP here: http://www.gimp.org/. I'm not sure if that does ICO output either, it doesn't really matter. Use ze Googz.

Just follow these easy steps!

Create a new document in your graphics program at either 16x16 or 32x32 pixels. I chose 32x32 just because I like higher resolution. I understand that old browsers may not be able to load the icon, but this is not my dilemma. People need to update their browsers! Design your logo.
Save your design as a .ICO, .PNG. or a .GIF. These are the ONLY supported file formats.
Upload the file to a permanent location that you can directly link to. I chose: http://www.androidvoid.com/ryanswright/webicon.png
In Blogger, login to your profile and click 'Layout'. At the following page, click on 'Edit HTML' at the top of the screen. Toward the top of the HTML editing box, you will find some text reading:
