On Saturday, 1st October 2011, at Gunwharf Quays was the second "Policing through the Ages" event organised by Gunwharf Quays and Hampshire Constabulary's Portsmouth-based City Centre Unit. Below is a selection of the photos I took:

Crikey, has it really been 5 months since I posted on here?! So many excuses, so little time to list them all...

Below is a slideshow of some photos taken at a recent Heritage Open Day at Fort Rowner in Gosport, Hampshire.

The fort is not normally open to the public as it is slap bang in the middle of a Navy base. Entry was free, and we got a guided tour around the the fort by a chap who teaches at the base.

As you can see from my last post, I'm back. However, I realised that having been away for almost three months, I had to re-think the whole concept of this blog. With that in mind, I am changing this from a Ryan's 365 Photo Blog to Ryan's-interesting-things-I-took-a-photo-of-once-in-a-while Blog (obviously the title still needs some work!).

It's not everyday that a bi-plane lands near you. I was visiting a friend when this GB registered French bi-plane landed on a grass airstrip nearby. After a quick chat and a turn around, off he went.

For a while now, I've been struggling with a basic tripod for my long exposure stuff. It was a Velbon one bought from Jessops many moons ago when I bought my video camera. Because I bought a video tripod, there was no facility to put the camera in portrait mode, so I've been limited to landscape exposures.

This month I decided that I need to get myself a half decent tripod that will go into portrait mode and be adjustable in all manner of directions. I also wanted something that pretty much would get up to my eye level as well.

On popping into my local Jessops today, I had my mind set on something from Manfrotto. However, whilst perusing the display, I noticed some very Manfrotto-like tripods by a company I hadn't heard of - Giottos. They appear to be very well put together and have all the features I could want, coupled with a nice 3-way head with built in levels.

I've decided to go for this one:

This is the Giottos MTL9351B Pro Tripod with MH5011 head from Jessops for £99, which appears to be great value for money. I was willing to spend £150 for a tripod, so with what's left over, I'll be getting a Gorillapod SLR Zoom too (well you never know when it will come in handy!).

Once I've got them, I'll try and remember to post a little review.
