KEITH URBAN JOINS JIMMY RANKIN IN THE STUDIO

Nova Scotia's own Jimmy Rankin has been busy in the studio in Nashville, TN with producer Colin Linden. This past weekend Jimmy was joined in the studio by Keith Urban who graciously loaned his talent to Jimmy's song "Here In My Heart" co-written with Patricia Conroy. Jimmy posted, "Just got back from a recording session with the amazingly gifted Mr. Keith Urban. Keith laid down some blazing guitar solos for my new single, “Here in My Heart” – can’t wait for you all to hear the song! Thank you Keith!". Jimmy Rankin is one very talented musician as well. His first solo record "Song Dog" is one of my favorite records. Congrats Jimmy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JULIE ROBERTS!

One of the cool things about being married to my husband has the be the great people he has worked with that I get to meet. Julie Roberts is no exception. Tonight my husband and I joined a room full of Julie Roberts' friends and family to surprise her for her birthday. Julie thought she was just going to dinner at Morton's Steakhouse in Nashville, and upon walking into the surprise filled room she quickly announced, "If I knew about y'all I would have done my hair!" Julie Roberts' hit single was "Break Down Here," an emotional tune whose music video and radio airplay helped propel her into country stardom. "Break Down Here" went on to peak at #18 on the Billboard Hot Country Charts, thus becoming the most successful and highest peaking single of her career. Details such as a personalized dinner menu and a cake in the shape of a tour bus were a few of the evening's highlights. The evening was topped off with a serenade of Happy Birthday led by hit writers Kent Blazy (If Tomorrow Never Comes, Ain't Going Down Till The Sun Comes Up, Getting You Home) & Marcus Hummon (Bless the Broken Road, Born To Fly and more).

NICOLE EXPLAINS WHY SHE & KEITH URBAN KEPT NEW BABY A SECRET

The world was pleasantly surprised earlier this month when KEITH URBAN and NICOLE KIDMAN announced they'd welcomed new baby FAITH MARGARET into the family via gestational carrier, or surrogate. So, why did they keep the plans for the new addition under wraps? Nicole said,"We just decided this was our thing together. It kind of just perpetuated itself." The secrecy also protected everyone in the situation, Nicole adds. Keeping the secret wasn't easy for Nicole though. She says, "I wanted to be able to tell everybody because I was so excited about her." Faith Margaret joins her two-year-old sister SUNDAY ROSE, and Nicole's two children from her first marriage to TOM CRUISE, ISABELLA and CONNOR. While on the red carpet of the SAG Awards, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman did what all parents do when they welcome a new child to the family - show everyone pictures! Refreshingly, they didn't have professional photos taken that they were hoping to shop around to magazines. Instead, they just had this quick shot of baby Faith Margaret on Keith's iPhone!

KEITH URBAN TO PLAY SUPER BOWL PRE-GAME

Keith Urban is sure to have an awesome seat for the Super Bowl, but he’ll have to work for it.
Keith is part of the three-hour pre-game hoopla at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. And said hoopla will be broadcast live on the Fox TV network. The pre-game show starts at 2 p.m. Feb. 6.
Oh, but that’s not the only twang in the Super Bowl pre-game: The night before, Faith Hill joins The Pretenders from a nearby amphitheater for a live version of the CMT Crossroads show.

COUNTRY'S STRONG: TAYLOR & LADY A LEAD THE PACK

The final tally is in for album sales for 2010, and country can claim two of the top three spots, according to figures from the Recording Industry Association of American (RIAA).
Britain's Got Talent discovery Susan Boyle repeated as best-selling artist of the year in 2010, with her second album, The Gift, which went triple platinum.
The only other two albums to sell 3 million or more came from Taylor Swift (Speak Now) and Lady Antebellum (Need You Now). (Might this spark a bunch more country albums with the word “now” in the title?)
All three of Taylor’s albums have now sold more than 3 million copies.

EAST COAST FOR DINNER
This past weekend I had the pleasure of hosting a full course turkey dinner for a great friend and co-writer friend here in Tennessee. Canada's own Lennie Gallant, my husband and I had a great time sharing stories and catching up on the music scene back home in Nova Scotia. After dinner Lennie took a seat in the living room to have a listen to my new (much anticipated) record we are hoping to release soon. To quote Lennie, "You've got a GREAT album that's going to turn some heads!" That means so much coming from such an accomplished songwriter as him. Aside from nine of his own amazing albums, Lennie has had a cut with Jimmy Buffett and is working towards his next cut by frequenting Nashville. TENNESSEE LOAF OF BREAD BECOMES MOST SHARED EBAY AUCTION ITEM ON FACEBOOK
This is a great example of creativity if I've ever seen one. Steven Boyd (also known as The Valiant One) decided to have a little fun after the snow fall warnings in Nashville, TN last week. After the media warned TN residents to stock up on groceries due to a "big snow storm" anticipated to hit Nashville last Thursday night (but only left three inches in total by Friday morning), Steve decided he'd place his surplus loaf of bread on eBay to auction. What began as a bit of Friday morning office humor has taken the social media networks by storm with over 3,350 views, 30 eBay watchers and 3 official bids so far. This loaf is currently priced at $53.01! On Monday of this week the loaf of bread beat out a Batmobile used in Batman Returns as the #1 most shared eBay auction on Facebook!
The auction item has also been featured on Channel 4 News, the Nashville Page and a few radio stations in Nashville. All for a good cause, whatever money is raised from the auction will be donated to the Hendersonville Help Center :) in Tennessee.

Shania Gets Canadian Hall of Fame Honor

Canadian songstress Shania Twain is already having a banner year and it;s just a few weeks into 2011. The newlywed has been named as this year's inductee into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and will be formally inducted during the Juno Awards on March 27.

Shania's trophy cabinet already holds a solid dozen Juno awards and she's sold more than 45 million albums in North America.

"Shania Twain revolutionized the look and sound of country music, and truly is one of the most accomplished and celebrated music artists of her era," said Melanie Berry, president and CEO of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, in a statement. "We're so proud to honor her at home in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame."

The singer has plenty more in the works for this year—she will host her own TV show, Why Not? With Shania Twain on the Oprah Winfrey Network, and will release her autobiography later this year.

Blake to Co-Host ACM Awards With Reba

Look out: Someone’s giving Blake Shelton a microphone—to talk!—on a national major network prime-time TV show.

Reining Country Music Association male vocalist Blake Shelton – known for his, uh, “colorful” messages on Twitter—will share Academy of Country MusicAwards hosting duties with Reba McEntire.

The two read ACM nominations together last year and the organization loved it. Reba is managed by her husband, Narvel Blackstock, and Blake is managed by Narvel's son, Brandon.

“When they did that, you saw a chemistry,” ACM executive director Bob Romeo told USA Today.

Carrie Underwood Movie Trailer Is Out

Billy Ray Cyrus Sued by Ex-Road Manager

First comes divorce, then come the legal battles. For Billy Ray Cyrus, his latest round of trouble has little to do with his recent split from Leticia "Tish" Cyrus. The country singer's 61-year-old former road manager, Paul A. Abraham, is suing him and his estranged wife, claiming they fired him due to his age.

The lawsuit was filed late Monday (Jan. 10) in Davidson County Circuit Court, according to The Tennessean. According to the filing, Billy Ray said Paul was “old and dumb and don’t know anything about running a farm.”

In addition to his touring duties, Paul worked primarily in Tennessee at the Cyrus farm known as “Singin’ Hills.”

He was fired on May 1, 2010, the lawsuit states.

Taylor’s “Back to December” Video Released

Charlie Daniels Loses Horses, Barn in Fire

Charlie Daniels lost the main barn on his Twin Pines Ranch in Lebanon, Tenn., when a blaze broke out on Friday, Jan. 7. According to reports, the fire started around 10 p.m. In a posting on his website, Charlie detailed the loss for his friends and fans.

"By far my biggest regret in the whole situation is the eleven good horses and the one Corriente bull we lost in the fire," he wrote. "We lost all three of our stud horses, one representing our foundation bloodline, and a mare that was in foal with a colt we really wanted, but if they'd only been nags I would have regretted the thoughts of my horses burning in a barn fire just as much. We lost both tractors, all our saddles and tack, a dually pickup and horse trailer, quite a bit of hay and feed, and no telling what memorabilia we had left there over the years."

Charlie was vacationing with his wife, Hazel, in Colorado at the time of the blaze, and praised the work of the local police and firefighters. "Terry Ashe, our Wilson County Sheriff, and Wes Neely, a local policeman, came and stayed until the danger to other property was past, and the Wilson County Fire Department was nothing short of great," Charlie said in his post. "Since we didn't have a fire hydrant close to the barn they had to haul water in on trucks and did so for the biggest part of the night."

Charlie says they plan to rebuild the barn and replace lost and damaged equipment. "The sun will rise, the moon will set, the rain will fall, the grass will grow, the creek will run and Twin Pines Ranch will have a new barn," wrote Charlie. "God is in His heaven, He is in control, and He loves us and will provide for our needs."

Faith, Flowers & Football

You know those sometimes hilarious Super Bowl ads that most of the free world tunes in for? Faith Hill will be part of the festivities this year.

Faith has partnered with Teleflora for her first floral collection, which has been dubbed—wait for it—“The Collection by Faith Hill.” To introduce the array, Faith will star in what’s being billed as a “laugh-out-loud” spot, staged in a recording studio, in which she steps in to coach her sound tech through a Valentine’s Day dilemma.

Also making its debut in the commercial is the lead bouquet in “The Collection by Faith Hill” Valentine’s Day assortment—the “Valentine’s Bouquet.”

Faith’s commercial will be unveiled during the second quarter of Super Bowl XLV on Fox on Sunday, Feb. 6.

Country Strong Opens In 6th Place

Tim McGraw’s latest movie, Country Strong, opened in sixth place at the weekend box office, several media outlets reported.
It took in $7.3 million, about half the revenue of the top movie this weekend,True Grit, in its third week out.
Others finishing ahead of Country Strong—Little Fockers ($13.8 million),Season of the Witch ($10.7 million), TRON: Legacy ($9.8 million) and Black Swan ($8.3 million).
Country Strong played in less than half the theaters that True Grit did, according to boxofficemojo.com, with the former opening on 1,424 screens and the latter available on 3,124.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! - And what better way to ring in the New Year by getting married. This is what Canadian sweetheart Shania Twain did. Saturday, Jan 1st, 2011 Shania married Frederic Thiebaud (pronounced tee-bow) in Puerto Rico. It was a small ceremony in front of 40 friends and family that included a fireworks show, Shania singing at the reception & armed security guards. There was no way for anyone passing by to get a glimpse of the ceremony without having to venture into the ocean! This kept the intimate ceremony successfully private.

WAY TO GO, GARTH! - Garth Brook’s NINE sold out concerts in Nashville raised nearly $15 million dollars for flood relief victims. An extraordinary effort was made by everyone who worked the event – from the band, to technical staff, stadium crews and vendors - all working for free. Brooks said "it’s a massive effort to put on a concert of this size, especially nine concerts in only five days." What an incredible success it turned out to be with all the proceeds generated going to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee which then distributes to non-profit organizations.

COUNTRY STRONG - Gwyneth Paltrow is now planning a country album & Toby Keith has offered to help. Toby has offered to be a back-up singer & writer for her new album. She also is planning to involve Jay-Z, Beyonce, & Faith Hill. Her movie “Country Strong” is in theatres Friday, January 7th.

"I've missed you guys so much," GarthBrooks said just three songs into the first of nine Nashville flood relief arena shows Thursday night (12/16). "You guys have done your job ... I appreciate what you've done. Now it's our turn." Brooks then ripped through a hit-heavy, two-hour set, which included appearances by Steve Wariner ("Longneck Bottle," "Some Fool's Never Learn") and Trisha Yearwood ("In Another's Eyes," "She's In Love With The Boy," "More Than A Memory"). Halfway throughYearwood's appearance, Brooks observed that the spirited sold-out crowd sang along to every song and said to his wife, "I love you, and I love our life at home, but we've got to get us one of these." Other highlights included Brooks' acoustic version of "Unanswered Prayers" and a video montage of flood recovery photos during "We Shall Be Free." Film crews also taped the production, which will be broadcast to military bases worldwide at a later date. There was time for only one encore, which was "Ain't Goin' Down (Til The Sun Comes Up)," because roughly 17,000 more fans were packed around the outside of the Bridgestone Arena for the 10pm show.

Brooks' The Rescue Party show is Nashville's fourth major charity concert of 2010 following Faith Hill and Tim McGraw's Nashville Rising, Brooks & Dunn's The Last Rodeo and Keith Urban's All For The Hall. When it all wraps, more than 140,000 fans will have seen Brooks perform. "Let's let people know that Nashville is up and running again," Brooks said during a press conference earlier Thursday (12/16). "Our goal is to see the economic impact that this will have on this city at Christmas ... This whole week nine shows is probably going to end up costing somewhere between $300,000-$400,000 and that's it. Any [other] place will tell you it will take $3 million-$4 million. Everyone you see is working for free." With all the proceeds benefiting The Community Foundation Of Middle Tennessee, the initial $3.5 million raised from ticket sales is expected to climb as merchandise sales and text-to-donate funds are accumulated.

Tim McGraw's new movie Country Strong doesn't hit the big screen until January 7, 2011, but he's already signed on for his next movie role. According to ComingSoon.net, Tim will be joining Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds for the new movie Safe House. During a press junket, Tim revealed that after the country music movie, he's looking forward to a little movie action. He says, "I get to play actually something action-packed. Shoot people and all that stuff. I’m looking forward to all that stuff."

Rumor has it the movie's about a group of villains who destroy a CIA-operated safe house forcing the facility's young house-sitter (Ryan Reynolds) to work to move the criminal (Denzel Washington) who's being hidden there to another secure location. No word on what part Tim will play (other than it's an action-packed part) but the film is set to start filming soon in South Africa.

Larry King is in his final weeks of his long time running show, "CNN Larry King Live" & this Friday Dec 10th he will air his hour long visit with Country star Garth Brooks at 9PM ET. There are many topics that will be discussed; touching on his Nashville shows; the Vegas shows & his family. Larry's final show will air Dec 16th.
