Let’s say you leave your Nokia E-Series device at school and don’t want your classmates seeing those luvvy-duvvy text messages you send to your girlfriend. Or maybe you can’t find your phone and don’t want anybody using it. The Nokia E-Series device has a great security feature called Remote Lock built in. Many people overlook or don’t notice this feature, but I think it’s a must-have for everyone with an expensive smartphone and sensitive data.

What does remote lock do? It allows you to send a unique message to your phone from another phone and it will lock.

The New Nokia Maemo Smartphone N900 Begins Shipping !

Today Nokia announced shipping of its Maemo Smartphone N900 to Europe, Middle-East, Russia and North America. Point to be noticed is that-Asia is absent from the shipping list - I think we have to wait for a while to get our hands on Nokia N900.

Straight from Nokia Conversations :

"Today sees the first batch of Nokia N900 handsets boxed up and shipped out on their maiden voyage into wild. The N900 has been the most discussed device we’ve ever reported on here at Conversations, so many of you are sure to be stoked to discover that the Maemo 5 device will be touching down in Europe, the Middle-East, Russia and North America shortly. Nokia Initiates Charger Exchange Program

Nokia Espoo just launched an "Exchange Program" for certain Nokia-branded charger manufactured by a third party supplier.

According to Nokia:

"We have determined that the plastic covers of the affected chargers could come loose and separate, exposing the charger’s internal components and potentially posing an electric shock hazard if certain internal components are touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket."

The affected chargers are those manufactured by BYD between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009 and with the following model types:-

AC -3U

AC-3E

And those manufactured by BYD between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009 and with the following model type:-

AC-4U

Google now updated its Google Mobile App to v2.03 which now includes Voice Search for S60 Symbian devices.

Voice Search is very useful feature, which makes you mobile Internet searching a lot easier. To use just startup the Google App by pressing the 'c' key and hold down the green calling key and speak your search, its so simple to use.

After formation of Symbian Foundation, I searched a lot for some Symbian stuff for my S60 Smartphone like Wallpaper and Themes- Now Greg and Baptiste at SEE09 -Organizers of the Symbian Foundation has release a nice symbian theme. The theme color of the Symbian Foundation is consistent s60 v5 and has a symbian desktop wallpaper with complete custom icons. I have installed it on my N & E series Nokia Device and I am loving it!

Symbian Launched Horizon: Symbian App Store

Horizon App Store- launched at the Symbian Exchange and Exposition 2009 by Symbian Foundation, Is an official portal for applications that are compatible with smartphones based on Symbian OS. Horizon App Store already has 50 applications, which include YouTube, Twitter and many more. Currently there is no client app for Mobile devices for direct download, hope we will see one soon.

A total of five stores now support Symbian Horizon. Along with the initial stores announced, Ovi Store by Nokia, Samsung Applications Store and AT&T’s MEdia Mall, two new stores are now participating: China Mobile’s Mobile Market, and Sony Ericsson’s PlayNow arena.

"Many thanks to Here and now users for all your feedback. Based on that we were finally able to solve the nasty wrong location problem that had us puzzled for quite a while. You can read the story in the forum if you are into technical details.

Also based on your feedback, the client now checks whether Here and now was started from the browser bookmark or from the application grid. On exit it returns to the browser bookmarks only if it was started from the browser. This was supposed to be in the summer release already, but it was left out due to a human error.

This release also fixes some bugs including one that is actually only visible when there are three or more previews. Which is nice, because we have just released two new services:

-Movies listing your favourite flicks nearby.

-Restaurants showing the fine dining possibilities around you. "

"Espoo, Finland - Nokia announced that it has today filed a complaint against Apple with the Federal District Court in Delaware, alleging that Apple's iPhone infringes Nokia patents for GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN (WLAN) standards.

As a leading innovator in wireless communications, Nokia has created one of the strongest and broadest patent portfolios in the industry, investing more than EUR 40 billion in R&D during the last two decades. Much of this intellectual property, including the patents in suit, has been declared essential to industry standards. Nokia has already successfully entered into license agreements including these patents with approximately 40 companies, including virtually all the leading mobile device vendors, allowing the industry to benefit from Nokia's innovation.

The ten patents in suit relate to technologies fundamental to making devices which are compatible with one or more of the GSM, UMTS (3G WCDMA) and wireless LAN standards. The patents cover wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption and are infringed by all Apple iPhone models shipped since the iPhone was introduced in 2007.

"The basic principle in the mobile industry is that those companies who contribute in technology development to establish standards create intellectual property, which others then need to compensate for," said Ilkka Rahnasto, Vice President, Legal & Intellectual Property at Nokia. "Apple is also expected to follow this principle. By refusing to agree appropriate terms for Nokia's intellectual property, Apple is attempting to get a free ride on the back of Nokia's innovation."

During the last two decades, Nokia has invested approximately EUR 40 billion in research and development and built one of the wireless industry's strongest and broadest IPR portfolios, with over 10,000 patent families. Nokia is a world leader in the development of GSM technologies and its evolution to UMTS / 3G WCDMA as well as wireless LAN, which is also demonstrated by Nokia's strong patent position in these technologies."
