The first handset is pretty much of standard specifications. The Sony Xperia SX features a 3.7″ display with Sony Mobile Bravia and an 8mp camera, along with a 1.5GHz dual core processor. Other features will include mobile TV, mobile wallet and infrared connectivity.

The Xperia GX on the other hand puts Sony’s flagship Xperias to shame. The Xperia GX is the first phone from Sony to feature a 13 megapixel camera, while the “flagship” Xperia S (and Xperia Ion) feature an impressive but, not quite as good 12 megapixel camera. The Xperia GX also has the largest display from the Sony range. The GX has a 4.6″ display, again with Mobile Bravia built in.

These will be the first LTE Sony phones to launch in Japan and will see the introduction of three new applications: WALKMAN, Album and Movies.

The “WALKMAN” application integrates signature high quality audio technologies such as clear stereo, clear bass, VPT surround sound, manual equalizer and xLOUD™ with new innovative ways to play, discover and recommend music.
The “Album” application brings new intuitive ways to sort and browse high quality photos and videos in blazing speed, as well as providing instant viewing, commenting and sharing of photos on Facebook and other online albums, leveraging the great camera capabilities of Xperia GX and Xperia SX.
The “Movies” application streamlines the playback and viewing of movies in high quality audio and video with intelligent database search to discover more info about the movie for a rich and immersive experience.

Both handsets are expected to launch in the summer and will be available in black and white. They will arrive with Android 4.0 straight out the box.

Responding to speculation that the ICS update would be available in June or July, support staff member Markus announced that the update is expected in late May or early June and that the update will of course be a gradual roll out, reaching different areas and networks at different times.

“Xperia S is planned to get ICS somewhere around late May/early June. That’s what’s been said and that’s still what we’re sticking to. Any other dates (such as “June/July”) is just speculation”

Not too long to wait for Sony Xperia S owners either way, late May or early June will be here quickly enough and hopefully the roll out and the software will be glitch free when it arrives.

Eagle eyed Google searchers spotted the ad pointing to the June release on AT&T for the Xperia ion – the 4g LTE Android with 12.1MP Camera (just reading from the advert here!), which seems to have been listed by sonymobile.com themselves. Not sure if AT&T will be happy with this premature revelation however but, at least we have a starting point as to when this new Xperia smartphone might hit Stateside.

Although the company don’t give specific release dates, they are keen to keep us up to date and assure Xperia users that ICS is on the way and have posted an update doing just that. The ICS rollout is already hitting the Nordic countries and Sony are continuing to push forward with the release globally although networks are also involved in bringing the update to customers which may slow things down a little.

According to a released filing, the handset comes with GPS, Wifi, and NFC. It further offers HSPA and GSM support. Other already-revealed features include a 4 inch display, 16 GB of storage, 1 GB of RAM, 2 cameras, and a 16 Hz dual core processor. The device runs Android’s Gingerbread 2.3.7.

These features suggest a wide range of possibilities for the Xperia P. We’ve already known that the phone offers stellar specs for a “midrange” item, but now we have documented details regarding some useful bonus features. For example, NFC will give Xperia users the ability to make purchases without taking their cash back credit cards out of their wallets. Since this convenience may serve to only further disassociate people from their spending, you might want to start seeking out credit card low interest rate in anticipation of Xperia’s arrival.

But the real question still remains: where is the Xperia P headed next? We expect that the device will clear the FCC and make its way into the American market in a matter of weeks, but what carrier will be the first to offer the product?

While the recent filings gave no indication of the Xperia’s next destination, all signs indicate that it is probably headed to AT&T. After all, the Xperia P is following closely in the footsteps of the Xperia Ion, the latter of which has already established AT&T as its carrier. Furthermore, Sony and AT&T took part in an unusual promotion last month where a Sony Tablet P and an Xperia Play were bundled together (for $299) and available to anyone willing to sign a new AT&T contract. The promotion appears to be unsuccessful but it nonetheless reflects the close working relationship between Sony and the nation’s second-largest mobile carrier.

But, of course, nothing is a given and we’re just going to have to wait and see what happens. Fortunately, the Xperia P’s arrival at the FCC indicates that we won’t have to wait much longer.

There were several rumors floating around that it might feature solar panel technology among other things.

Sony have today announced the Xperia Sola and we can confirm there is no solar panel technology. What the Xperia Sola does feature however, is a new technology which is being called “floating touch”. Essentially, you can navigate the browser without actually having to touch the screen but, rather float above it. Touch does however appear to be required for making selections. We’ve included a promo video below so you can see how the floating touch technology works.

The Xperia Sola also features a 3.7 inch display with Mobile Bravia Engine, a 1GHz dual core processor, 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording capabilities and NFC. The Xperia Sola looks set to launch with Android 2.3 but, will be upgraded to Android 4.0 shortly after being released. Pricing and release information is currently unknown. The Xperia Sola will be available in black, white and red and features a similar design to the rest of the Xperia NXT series.
