Sony Ericsson website now redirects to Sony Mobile

With Sony’s acquisition of Ericsson’s stake complete, the business has been renamed Sony Mobile Communications. Emails have been sent out to customers detailing the change and now the Sony Ericsson website redirects users to SonyMobile.com from SonyEricsson.com.

Finding your way around the website is practically identical to the SonyEricsson website but, we now have the Sony colors, namely blacks and greys, along with the Sony make.believe logo.

Support and downloads are still accessible at SonyMobile.com, such as PC Companion which, for the mean time is still branded as Sony Ericsson but, we’re sure it won’t be long until that gets an overhaul.

Xperia Sola trademarked

Sony have trademarked the name “Xperia Sola” with the Trademark and Patents Office in the US, as well OHIM it’s European counterpart meaning whatever the Sony Xperia Sola is, won’t be a US exclusive. What the Xperia Sola is however, remains to be seen. The trademark has been filed under mobile phones and accessories but, a model number has not been listed.

There are rumors that the Xperia Sola could be the real name of the Xperia U but, this seems unlikely as it’s unusual for a handset to be renamed twice in such a short amount of time but, it’s not a dismissible theory. Other suggestions point to a Solar powered handset. Alternatively, Xperia Sola could be an accessory for Xperia branded phones. Solar powered USB charger any one? Sony Xperia Ion to be available in the UK?

According to a blog post by Mobile Fun, the Birmingham based UK company will be selling the Sony Xperia Ion which has been stated as a US only release and an exclusive for American network carrier AT&T. The Xperia Ion is due in the US in Q2 of 2012, so any time between April and June and should be released in the UK shortly after. An exact date is currently unknown for the Sony Xperia Ion in the UK, as is pricing information.

The Sony Xperia Ion features a 4.6″ Reality Display with a HD resolution of 1280×720 which will allow you to watch HD content in it’s native resolution. The Xperia Ion, like the Xperia S will feature a 12 megapixel camera with 1080p video recording and a 1.5GHz dual core processor. The Ion also comes with NFC support and is PlayStation certified.

Currently Mobile Fun is the only UK retailer to have the Sony Xperia Ion for pre-order.

Welcome to Sony Xperia P and U: Codenames LT22i Nypon and ST25i Kumquat

According to findings on what is deemed to be the Indonesian version of the FCC in the US, Mobile88 have posted regarding the unveiling of the names that Sony will be releasing their formerly codenamed ‘LT22i Nypon’ and ST25i Kumquat handsets when they go into the open market.

Codename LT22i Nypon and codename ST25i Kumquat will from now on be known as the Sony Xperia P and the Sony Xperia U smartphones respectively. (...)

Mac users will finally be able to update their Xperia phones

One major problem for owners of Sony Ericsson Xperia smartphones is if you own a Mac, you were unable to update your handsets to the latest version of Android. Both the Sony Ericsson Update Service and PC Companion are only compatible with Windows meaning those with a Mac were left to use a friend’s PC, or stay on old outdated software such as Android 1.6 in the case of the Xperia X10 when Android 2.1 was finally released. Sony Xperia S UK release date and price

The recently announced Xperia S is now available to pre-order in the UK. The Xperia S is the first phone to be released from Sony following their buy out of Ericsson from the joint venture and looks set to continue in the steps of the 2011 Xperia range.

Clove have announced that they will be selling the Sony Xperia S in black starting from March 5th 2012. The sim free price for the Xperia S is £467.99 through Clove, while Play have the release date down as March 6th and a price tag of £449.99. You can also pre-order the Sony Xperia S from ebuyer for £429.99 but, they have an expected release date of March 12th.

If you’re after the white Sony Xperia S though, you’ll have to shop at Phones4U who will be selling the white model exclusively. Release date is again March but, this time without a specific date or any pricing information. It’s likely to be around the second week of March though like other UK retailers.

London Eye Time lapse video created with Xperia Arc S

I’m sure most of us have seen this sort of video before but, it’s not every day that a time lapse video is created with a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S. The Xperia Arc S doesn’t come with a time lapse feature built in but, there are many that you can download off the Android Market. The owner of this very cool time lapse video doesn’t say what app was used to create it.

YouTube user zyavar does however say, that the time lapse video of the London Eye was created using 1862 photos taken over 2 hours 35 minutes from a London hotel room. New additions to PlayStation Certified selection of games

Several PlayStation Portable (PSP) titles for ‘PlayStation Certified Devices’ have appeared on the ESRB – Entertainment Software Rating Board that will add to the previously released PlayStation One titles that are currently available through the PlayStation Certified program.

Titles such as flOw, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Daxter are listed along with a range of Pinball Heroes games inspired by previously released Sony titles including UnCharted, Hot Shots Golf, ModNation Racers and MotorStorm. The games should be available to play on the Xperia Play, Xperia Arc, Xperia Acro (and Acro HD), Xperia S and Xperia ion along with the two Sony tablets , the S and the P tablets, which are both PlayStation Certified devices.

Sony Ericsson offer up to 15% off Xperia handsets but, no match for High Street prices

If you’ve signed up to receive emails from Sony Ericsson, either through their support website or forums, or through Facebook chances are you may have received an email from them recently offering you so much off an Xperia Arc S or Xperia Ray.

While this initially sounds like great news, there are unfortunately two failings to this promotion. Firstly, my partner received an email offering 10% off the purchase price of an Xperia Arc S, or a Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray but, I then received an email offering me only 5% off with a different promotional code. A bit later on, another email that I’ve used with Sony Ericsson also received the email, this time with a 15% discount.

Sounds pretty tempting but, many high street retailers are offering the handsets for considerably less. Before the New Year, we saw the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S at Phones4U for only £199.99 as an upgrade, or £239.99 for a pay as you go handset, including a £10 top up. In comparison, the Sony Ericsson website is selling the Xperia Arc S for £369 and to compete would need to offer a minimum of 40% off the current selling price.

For anyone who hasn’t picked up either of these handsets, it’s worth shopping around for the best mobile phone deal as on occasions like this, even with a promotional code, it can be cheaper to shop elsewhere.

Xperia fan creates “New Xperia” music video

After writing two Xperia based songs, YouTube user and Xperia fan Domothy85 has created a third video to show his love for all things Xperia.

His latest video is based on Maroon 5′s Moves Like Jagger and has been reworded to showcase the new Xperia. The video was filmed at CES where Sony announced the Xperia S but, Domothy85 has said on his music video information that the song was actually written before Sony announced the phone and was fortunate enough to be flown out to Las Vegas for CES 2012 by Sony Ericsson to witness the unveiling of the new flagship phone!” He also notes that all footage and photos were taken on the Xperia Arc or Xperia Ray, minus two Google images.
