SFdS Parish 6th Annual Spring Fair

One week to go before our Spring Fair! We are still looking for helping hands! If you can spare an hour or two, or can make an hour or two, please sign up to assist us with set-up, clean-up, and some of our Carnival Games. By now, we hope you have told all your family and friends. Please come out and enjoy a fun and exciting day for our Parish! Shoebox raffle tickets and play passes are still available. Check out the new additions this week! A very special thank you to Des and Valerie Bosa, Aquila Developments Inc. and Sharon and Ron Woloschuk for their generous contributions which have allowed us to bring in new attractions to this year’s Fair. A warm thank you to all our local businesses who have contributed to our baskets. To all those who have contributed with their time…..THANK YOU from our heart!

Tax Benefits of Donations to Project Advance and to the Parish

Did you know: There is a tax credit of 20% on your initial $200 donation. This means your $200 donation cost you only $160. After the initial $200 donation the tax credit is 43.7%. This means that every $100 donation (after the initial $200) will cost you only $56.30.

Mrs. Cecilia McLaren’s Retirement Dinner

Please join us in saying goodbye and celebrating Mrs. McLaren’s 28 years at the school on Saturday, June 23 starting with Mass at 5:00 pm followed by a dinner reception in the school gym. Tickets = $40 each available at the parish or school office.

SFdS Parish 6th Annual Spring Fair

Two weeks to go before our annual Spring Fair on Saturday, May 26th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm! We are in need of volunteers to make Portuguese donuts. Please continue to spread the word, check out the new additions to our Shoebox Raffle, purchase your play passes in advance, and get ready for a wonderful and fun event. Please help us promote and refresh our community Spirit!

PREP Registration Time

Our Parish Religious Education Program will be ending on May 15. Registrations are being taken for next September. Submit your registration before May 31st to take advantage of the lower fee. PREP is held on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:15 pm for children in Kindergarten to Grade 7 in public schools. Classes resume September 11, 2012. Pick up your registration forms on the bulletin board or in the parish office.

Project Advance – Sharing with Joy

Our Project Advance 2012 campaign starts this weekend. The money raised past our diocesan goal has a greater value this year for the parish as the more we raise the less we have to borrow for the Pre-school, i.e. less interest to pay. Volunteers will be available after all Masses to assist anyone who needs help.

Couples for Christ

Couples for Christ Burnaby invites you to the Christian Life Program (CLP), an opportunity to understand God’s call to us as Christians.

• For the individual, build a deeper relationship with God.

• For the family, strengthen the relationships of husband, wife and children according to God’s plan.

• For the Church, bring a fuller experience of life in the Holy Spirit

Stations of the Cross

Tuesday, April 3, we will be doing the Stations of the Cross with our PREP children and their families. The Confirmation Class will lead the Stations by presenting them as a Shadow Drama. They will be held in the school gym at 7:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Lunches for the Poor and Homeless of Burnaby

Wednesday, April 4 at 1:00 pm in the church hall we will be making lunches for the poor and homeless of Burnaby. The lunches are given out Thursday, April 5th at the Southside Community church. We are looking for both volunteers to prepare the lunches and donations of food items for the lunches. (Meat, cheese, cookies, fruit cups or fresh fruit, juice boxes, margarine) If you would like to help or make a donation please contact the Church office at 604-434-1328.

Confirmation

Confirmation will take place on Wednesday, May 16 at 7:00 pm. The candidates will have a day of retreat in preparation for their Confirmation on Friday, April 20 at the Westminster Abbey in Mission. Rehearsal will take place on Monday, May 14 at 7:00 pm in the Church.

2011 Tax Receipts

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new school principal, Mrs. Irene Wihak. Mrs. Wihak will begin on the 2012-2013 school year following the retirement of Mrs. Cecilia McLaren. We also take this opportunity to thank Mrs. McLaren for her dedication and valuable contributions to our faith community and congratulate her on her retirement.

Please bring in your old palms before Monday, February 20 so we can burn them to use for Ash Wednesday. You may drop them off in boxes provided in the church lobby or the parish office.

SFDS Building Our Future Committee

The Directory – 246 families had their pictures taken and will be in the Directory! We will keep you updated on the status of the Directory, but it will take several months to produce.

Your Photos – If you had your picture taken and did not order anything else, please pick up you free 8×10 from the parish office.

In Loving Memory Page – There will be an “In Loving Memory” page and you can put a name (or name of a couple) in the Directory for a $20 fee. We will be at the back of the church next week for you to sign up.

Children’s Magician of the Year Competition

Price: $8 per ticket

4 Magicians will perform, the audience will vote on who they think should win the title of Children’s Magician of the year. Winner from last year will perform. There will also be a ventriloquist, food and refreshments. Raffle tickets for great prizes are also available. Tickets are available at the Church entrance before and after the Saturday 5:00 pm Mass and Sunday 9:00 & 11:00 am Masses.
