This quote is such a great mantra for me, especially these days. I have several irons in the fire and lots I want to accomplish before the year is through. On a personal level, slowly but surely decorating our home, designing a website, revamping my blog, and deciding upon 1 of the 5 versions I have created for my new logo top the list for the months ahead. If I want to get it all done before 2013 rolls around, I must keep this in mind as sometimes I tend to feel stuck when I fret and stew over things that don't really matter in the end. Can anyone else relate to that? If so, let's say it together: DONE is better than perfect.

"Better Together" Part 2

Today I'm featuring Part 2 of our 12 Year Anniversary Shoot photographed by Jeanna Hayes of "YOUR DAY IN A NEW WAY.". If you missed Part 1, you can check it out HERE or hop on over to Green Wedding Shoes where it was featured yesterday.

With yesterday being all about STATIONERY + SWEETS, today is devoted to DECOR + DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS! You know I'm crazy for them. After all, it's the little details that make anything you're doing that much more special.

OUR "HIS & HERS" TABLE SETTINGS

Handmade white chocolate pears made by a dear friend served as the favor given to our guests at our wedding. So the pears served as the inspiration behind "HIS" tablescape, and "HERS" was inspired by my love for all things soft, floral and feminine.

And with the helping hands of Jeanna, we made the table runners pieced together from pages of a vintage book (a romance novel to be exact!). My favorite detail to note is the CHAPTER 12 section of the table runner.

We incorporated pieces from our personal collection of China and used our everyday silverware as well. I had the last minute idea to wrap the utensils in twine for "HIS" fork, and embroidery floss for "HERS" to add a little extra flair.

Lastly, the TV trays were my mother in laws that got a fresh coat of paint prior to the legs of the tray getting a Martha Stewart gold metallic paint make over. Yes, I was totally inspired by stripey straws and stripey washi tape for this project. I have to say, I loved how they turned out.

THE BOUQUET

Vintage buttons from my late Grandmother's collection adorned my bouquet. 12 buttons for 12 years. I also had a button themed bridal shower years ago.

LINEN FLAGS

Linen is the traditional wedding gift for a 12th anniversary so I created a mini banner with 12 flags made out of linen fabric + linen paper. Linen was also used in Jeff's boutonniere.

OUR SPOONS

The best chapter of our love story was written when we had the twins and became parents, which is represented by these spoons adorning each of our names. Quite possibly the ultimate "Better Together" detail.

MISC. DETAILS

+ "Love notes + lunches" represents a daily exchange that we make. Every day I make my husband's lunch and in return he leaves me a little love note. Always on a 3x5 card, and always left on the edge of the kitchen counter. A few thousand love notes and lunches later, this is something special we've been doing since becoming man + wife.

+ The little suitcase once belonged to my late Grandmother which held all of her sewing notions and was a keepsake I hadn't looked at in years. Well among all her tiny bobbins of thread, pincushions and things of the like was a small picture frame with our names and wedding date nestled down in the middle of all her other sewing treasures. Tears immediately filled my eyes and I knew it was a sign that I should incorporate this keepsake into the shoot.

+ And on a now funny note, I spent hours creating a "tied the knot" backdrop made from yards and yards of fabrics, trims and lace. Well let's just say that on the day of our shoot, we had the pleasure of shooting in 40 mph winds! The backdrop was destroyed in an instant. FAIL!

"Better Together" Part 1

A few months ago when my sidekick Jeanna of Jeanna Hayes Studios told me she had an idea that had literally been keeping her up at night, well I knew it must be something big. Indeed it was. And that's when "YOUR DAY IN A NEW WAY" was born.

So you might be wondering what "YOUR DAY IN A NEW WAY" is all about. Well it's a stylized photo session celebrating your love story and years together. It's meant to be a special tribute to your special day, however it is you choose to make it so.

Instantly smitten with Jeanna's new concept for a shoot and with our 12 year wedding anniversary just around the corner, I knew this was just the way I wanted to celebrate a dozen delightful years together (even if I had less than 2 weeks to pull it all together!). Thankfully my groom was down with the idea too.

It was important to me to style the shoot in a way that was truly us. I didn't just want a pile of pretty, but rather details and special touches that were genuine reflections of the life we've built together. And so it was that every.single.detail had a story or reason behind it and out of that the theme "Better Together" was born. We had details that were "HIS" and details that were "HERS" and when paired together, a unique expression of us shined through.

Now, I have to admit that posting a bazillion photos from such a personal project is something that's not all that easy for me...but the reason here is two fold. First, it may be a way for me to show a more personal side of myself (something that is usually uncomfortable for me to do on a public platform!) and secondly, maybe it will inspire someone else to capture their own love story on camera, or who knows maybe even someone will get a styling idea or two for an upcoming event.

I've decided to break up all the images into 2 separate posts...and vow to never show this many photos of my husband and I ever again!!!

Today I will share images of STATIONERY + SWEETS

And the next post will include images of DECOR + SPECIAL DETAILS

THE INVITATION

Being a graphic designer, I couldn't wait to design something that I'd actually want to send out today. Aside from the "Better Together" motif, I also wanted to convey a classic love story vibe throughout the shoot. Yes, I'm a hopeless romantic! Anyhow, it all had to start by setting the tone with a unique invitation. The actual invitation and enclosures were tucked into the inside cover of a book - a love story, of course. I hand painted the edges of the book with gold paint, wrapped a gold foiled patterned paper onto the spine, and found a vintage bookplate for the cover. I also wrapped the entire ensemble with a "HIS & HERS" presentation. Big secret who the gold polka dot wrap job belongs to!

THE CAKES

MISC. DETAILS

+ For the cakes - "HIS” flavor was dark chocolate, “HERS” was vanilla and “OURS” was a blend of both flavors – milk chocolate

+ We are big sandwich lovers, and based on that notion, we think the ultimate "Better Together" sandwich is a classic PB & J

+ We also love sweets (clearly 3 wedding cakes wasn't enough) so we had a dozen doughnuts to represent a dozen years together

+ We toasted each other over a lavender lemonade

+ Our wedding colors were revamped in modern way by pulling in an airy palette of peaches 'n cream, caramel, gold + greige then paired them with our originals which were amethyst + silver

+ Just like our wedding day, I wore something old + new + borrowed + blue and my man sported his spiffy bow tie

The Mr. and I celebrated our 12 year wedding anniversary in March and honored the occasion with an extra special photo shoot with our personal friend+photographer Jeanna. Some of the images Jeanna submitted to a wedding blog will be debuting very soon, but in the meantime, I just couldn't help but share a little sneak peek. I simply swoon over this photo. The ABC's Of Mom

The ABC's Of Brenda was a custom design project for a client to give to her mom for Mother's Day. We paired a beautiful display of text with words describing her mom and all in her favorite colors. This design was printed on photo paper and was framed but could also be printed on canvas. What a special and thoughtful gift to give for Mother's Day don't you think?

May the 4th will forever be a special day in my life (or in my Star Wars obsessed husband's words, it's "May the FORCE"). Anyhow, it was just a few shorts years ago today that I found out I was expecting. I didn't know at that point that I was expecting twins; but all I did know was that I was full of life.

I always seem to reflect about motherhood a little more than normal this time of year. How fitting that I found out I was going to become a mom right before Mother's Day, right? My heart still swells with such gratitude that we were blessed with two little miracles to call our very own. All the years of wishing and wanting and waiting were well worth it!

One of the greatest highlights since starting my blog this past year has been the sheer pleasure of connecting with others, many who also happen to be mothers (or a soon to be ones) on a more personal level. Whether it be through emails, phone calls, texts, or meeting in person, there have been a handful of individuals in particular that have brightened my life to say the least.

And guess what? Four of them are expecting right now! Something must be in the water, as I feel like baby bumps are the latest (and best!) accessory popping up in blog land these days.

Hi, I'm Suzanne and I'm a stationery-aholic. Big surprise, right?

I am always on the look out for new note cards to add to my vast collection. My latest purchase were these beauties created by the talented Jen of Made By Girl. Yes, they are hand painted (she's a talented artist), yes they have a beautiful Bible verse printed on them (I love this scripture), and yes the are in a color palette that I just adore (I can't get enough of gold these days).

Aren't they lovely? I was so impressed with them that I just had to share. There is also a teal and gold design and they can be purchased right HERE. And if you aren't already following her super fabulous blog, do yourself a favor and get ready to be inspired by all things interior design, fashion, food, art and NYC related. I'm a fan.

I Heart Amy Atlas

Event planners, stylists, cake decorators, bloggers, mommies, and fans across the globe have been awaiting the big debut of Amy Atlas' new book Sweet Designs: Bake It, Craft It, Style It that comes out today! The sweets stylist extraordinaire has been designing dessert tables for years now and I believe she is 100% responsible for the craze that now takes center stage at any party or event: the food table.

Whether it's a fabulous dessert table adorned with petite sweets on a stick, or a hot cocoa bar gussied up with garnishes galore, I think we all give our food tables a little more thought and attention now thanks to Ms. Atlas. I know I do!

I have tried my hand at styling these Amy Atlas inspired tables a few times now. My very first attempt at one was back in 2010 and was actually featured on the Amy Atlas blog in a 2 part feature here and here! It was an incredible honor to be featured and to this day, I am still receiving inquiries on how I made that fabric swagged backdrop.

For my twins 1st Babymania themed birthday, I styled these 2 tables: an "Octopus's Garden" Salad Station and "All You Need Is Love" And Sweets Station.

Even though I'm much more in my comfort zone when it comes to designing invitations and things of that nature, by channeling my inner Amy Atlas to try my hand at presenting food in a more creative way, well it kind of stretched me as a designer and made me discover an ability I didn't know I had in me. However, these sort of things kind of hurt my brain and that's why I can only bust them out once a year or so (wink, wink).

Amy certainly is the queen of all things pertaining to tables, backdrops, sweets and style and I can hardly wait to receive my copy of her book I already pre-orderd. I have already put my FedEx man on notice that I better be first on his delivery list for the next few days until it arrives.

So if you haven't purchased your copy already, hop to it as I know it will be fantastic, as everything Amy touches turns to gold. And speaking of gold, did you see the sneak peek of the Honeybee inspired table from her book? The gorgeous golden toned color palette and honeycomb cakes are enough to get the blog world a buzzin'. Amy, you are A-MAZING and will forever inspire me!

Elevating Your Brand // WPPI

Four years ago I started attending WPPI sort of by accident. What started out as me just popping into the trade show side of the convention led me to discovering that some of my favorite photographer's were speaking at the platform presentation side as well. Who knew such a thing existed?! So when you have the opportunity to hear the greats like Elizabeth Messina and Jessica Claire speak, well you hop to it.

Let's just say from that experience alone I was inspired to the core and it's since become a tradition for me to attend each year to soak up all the inspiration, great business + marketing tips, and things of that nature. And even though it's still a little embarrassing for me (a graphic designer) to try and hang amongst a sea photographers, well it's still such a valuable experience that I look forward to and treasure year after year. I've even made a few special friends along the way. Hi Jenny Bishop! WPPI certainly gets a gold star in my book.

So this year did not disappoint. I briefly met THE Jose Villa last year (my all time fave), and this year was even better in that I finally attended his platform class where he completely rocked it out on all levels. The other highlight of WPPI this year was seeing THE Mindy Weiss speak alongside two of the Junebugs about building your brand. If celebrity weddings and events aren't synonymous with Mindy's name, I don't know what is. Mindy writes the book (literally!) on all things fabulous in the event styling world and has created a very successful brand and name for herself over the years. What an inspiration she is to so many!

Here are 10 tips for elevating your brand taken straight from my notes at WPPI:

1. Define Your Distinctive Style // What are you bringing to the table that no one else is?

2. Create A Cohesive Brand // Create a full identity in what it is that you do.

3. Value Your Work // Time, materials and equipment are quantifiable, but your art is priceless.

4. Maximize Your Website and Blog // Make a great first impression online and make every page work for you; attract the work and clients you want.

5. Edit For Excellence // "Art is the elimination of the unnecessary." - Pablo Picasso

6. Understand Basic SEO // If you build it, they won't necessarily come. You want quality traffic, not quantity. Target yourself to people you want to work with.

7. Promote Yourself Wisely // Increase brand recognition, exposure and opportunities through strategic marketing.

8. Master Social Media // Social media is the new email and helps humanize your business - it's the voice of your brand.

9. Build Lasting Relationships // Follow the "Golden Rule Plus." Hello thank you notes and small gifts of appreciation! Remember your peers too, as they are potential marketers for you. Kindness is the soul of networking.

10. Work With A Passion // Finding your passion and balancing it with the work is going to get your through.

Isn't that Mindy something else?! I found all of her info so valuable, as it helped me recognize what areas I need improvement on and what areas I am stronger in. I highly recommend attending WPPI if the opportunity ever arises as I know it would be very beneficial no matter what stage you are in with your business.

On a random side note and sling shotting back around to the trade show portion of WPPI, check out what I spied...my family's Christmas card printed and distributed as a sample at the Bay Photo Lab booth for thousands to see. I'm so glad we all had a good hair day on the day that photo was taken.

Slice Of Life: Easter

I loved putting the twins Easter baskets together this year. Even though Liam hasn't seen any of the movies yet, he is starting to take interest in all the Star Wars paraphernalia. Elle is of course into all things clothing and accessory related (how cute is her poodle purse?!), hence the themes for their baskets this year.

In other Easter mentions, I pretty much ate as if it were Thanksgiving. Whoa. My mom never disappoints when it comes to making amazing holiday feasts. My parents had an egg hunt for the babies, and it's been a family tradition for years now to have a hunt for the 21+ over crowd. It's serious business I tell you, as "The Golden Egg" is at stake each year. Can you image what the neighbors must think when they see a bunch of adults rummaging through bushes and running around with Easter baskets in hand? It's pretty hilarious. And guess who scored "The Golden Egg" this year? That would me!

We had a wonderful weekend celebrating with our families and reflecting on the special time of year that this is. What Easter traditions do your families have? Do share pretty please.

It was a year ago today that I got the courage to go from the 'private' to 'public' mode and go live with my blog. The night before I was about to become the new kid on the blog scene, I vividly remember having a conversation with one my fellow blogging friends and I recall telling her that I had no clue where any of this would really take me, but in time if I could get at least 100 people following my blog, that I would feel really cool. She assured me that I would easily be able to do that, and I have to admit, I kind of doubted her. I thought to myself, "Wow! 100 people that don't even know me who will want to take the time to read my blog when there are already so many blogs out there to read is just so seemingly impossible at this point. I doubt it will happen, but I guess I will just have to give it a go!"

And even though I tried to talk myself into keeping it on the private mode for a while longer (confession session: have I mentioned that blogging still gives me stage fright?!), I went live and hoped I didn't regret doing so.

Well it is with a thankful heart that I am happy to report that I'm glad I did. I really don't get too hung up on checking stats and facts and figures and all that jazz (how does that Google Analytics thing work anyways?), but what I do know is that I have felt my little online space grow. Without having the courage to hit 'publish' every time I compose a post , I would have missed out on so, so much.

Because of this blog, many opportunities have come my way this past year. Opportunities I never thought could be mine like...

seeing my work featured on Oh So Beautiful Paper or on realsimple.com

to name a few

But really, the best part of blogging has to be the interactions I've had along the way from readers like YOU. I have enjoyed and read every single comment that had been made (thank you!!!!), had the pleasure of discovering your blogs, been fortunate enough to receive orders from all over the globe, had the honor of cultivating online friendships through personal emails and occasional late night phone chats, and even have had the sheer pleasure of meeting some of you. I simply just feel grateful.

On a final note, this past year has also been what I have been referring to as my "probationary period" as to whether or not all the time, effort, etc. that comes with the territory of blogging would be worth it or not to keep going. After all, my day job is being a mama to twins and a graphic designer during nap time. Well, the answer is yes - it has all been worth it.

I've seen my small graphic design studio grow more this year than in any of the 9 years prior. I've recently had record breaking months and I feel so fortunate to have shipped orders all the way to Greece to the good ole' state of Texas to even my same zip code. Thank you to all my SHE PAPERIE clients for allowing me to help you celebrate your life through paper. I am honored.

So here's to more blogging, more awaiting opportunities, more connections with my readers, and hopefully a little less stage fright.

Alive and Kickin'

Oh yes, that's right. I do have a blog. Life these days has been whizzing by at this crazy 100 mph pace and since I've been on overload mode, blogging had to be moved to the back burner. Thanks for not giving up on me though!

So with that little disclaimer out of the way, I have been working like a mad woman while my babies nap and sleep at night. Some of the extra special design projects I've been enraptured in lately include:

+ a stationery suite for a local photographer's styled shoot that will be featured on a wedding blog in the coming weeks (yahoo!)
+ more custom shaped business cards
+ a logo identity suite for a celebrity make up artist
+ more Babymania ensembles
+ a Harley themed baby shower invitation (I went hog wild on this one!)
+ a custom birth announcement inspired by the one I designed for my twins
+ 2 custom wedding invitation ensembles that I am REALLY excited about
+ and a few weeks ago I decided to style a shoot in honor of our 12 year wedding anniversary we celebrated earlier this month. The shoot took place this past weekend (in 40 mph winds I might add!) and included numerous sweet details that make my heart go pitter patter.

Happy Friday everyone! Can I just say how excited I am that the weekend is finally here?! The main reason being that the Mr. and I are celebrating our 12 year wedding anniversary on Saturday...12 years!! It's hard to believe we've been married for that long and together for 15. How lucky in love I am to be married to a man with such a beautiful heart, mind and soul.

And while on the topic of weddings, my wedding coordinator friends over at Scheme Events featured SHE PAPERIE + design boutique over on their blog this week. You can check out the feature HERE and find out a little bit more about my company along with what is the best thing I've spent money on lately and the strangest part of my night time routine...you know, details I'm sure you're just dying to know all about (wink).

More Custom Invitations

Rounding out the remaining pieces to Matt and Jenaya's wedding stationery ensemble are the Bachelorette Party and Rehearsal Dinner Invitations.

For the Bachelorette Party Invitations, girly touches such as peppy polka dots and punchy pinks help set the tone for the fabulous celebration Jenaya's bridesmaids had in store for her.

+ These double sided invitations were printed on a smooth stock with a custom printed envelope to match.

For their rehearsal dinner invitations, fiesta colors, succulent-esque graphics, and a modern font treatment fell right in line with the swanky Mexican restaurant where their dinner was held, Tacos And Tequila.

+ Invitations were printed on both sides, on a smooth stock, and custom address labels were also designed to finish off the ensemble.

It was an absolute honor getting to work with such a wonderful couple. I feel so fortunate to have a job I am incredibly passionate about and one that allows me to use my creative talents on a daily basis.

Eat, Drink + Be Married Menus

Matt and Jenaya's "Eat, Drink and Be Married" menus were placed atop a gorgeous place setting at their wedding recepetion. Justified text, a unique tea length shape, and a mash up of classy and fancy fonts set the tone for this particular design.

I would have loved to have eaten dinner at this wedding! Talk about amazing food, right?! Matt and Jenaya certainly have great taste, in more ways that one (wink!)

Custom Programs + Place Cards

Remember the custom wedding invitations and save the date cards I recently shared? Well this week I'll be posting the rest of the pieces I designed for Matt and Jenaya's beautiful wedding.

First up are the programs. Details include...

+ the happy couple's happy hedgehog graphic they incorporated throughout

+ fabric program pockets that were sewn by the talented bride herself

+ pages of the program bound together with chocolate colored twine

As for the place cards, each guest was greeted with an adorable mini pumpkin set at their place setting

+ Each of these pieces were printed on a soft ivory felt stock

+ The accent stock was a kraft colored cardstock

Life has been so super non stop crazy busy this past month! But in between the birthdays we've celebrated, the slew of boxes we've unpacked (settling into our new home is still not a game I'm winning at yet!), the 2 conferences I've attended, and the glorious everyday experiences that come with being the CEO of our household, I've still managed to (briefly) stop and smell the roses. Have I mentioned that I am slightly obsessed with Instagram these days?

A few highlights of this past month included:
+ a trip to Serendipity
+ enjoying my new Anthro candle
+ seeing my all time favorite photographer, Jose Villa, speak at WPPI
+ and whipping up a batch of THE best cookies in the world

Now how is it almost March already?! Happy last day of February!

Pantone 2012 Color Of The Year

I always get excited when I hear what the Pantone color of the year is. I love color. Absolutely love it. After all, color can transform a room, an outfit, an invitation or even a mood.

The 2012 Pantone Color Of The Year is Tangerine Tango. It's like red did the tango with orange and this vibrant shade was created. I'm a huge fan and in fact it might be my favorite color ever chosen for color of the year. I've had a major crush on this beautiful shade for a few years now and have been referring to it as tomato.

One of the reasons why I love this color is because I feel it's suitable for any season. I also love wearing this color, painting my nails this color, and even styling shoots around it.

Anyone else a fan of the Tangerine Tango?

Happy Heart Day

These are the Valentines that Liam and Elle's sent out this year. I've been loving the whole chalk + chalkboard craze for months now, so that served as my inspiration behind their design. I used an opaque white pen to fill in the names of each recipient and away they went into the mail. I hope every one has an extra special Valentines Day!

For The Love Of Cookies

Trader Joes had me with the name and the cute label didn't hurt either. The next thing I knew these sweet treats were in my cart! No complaints here though as they were the perfect compliment to the little Valentine lunch I made this past weekend. And by little, I mean I made mini lasagnas that were to die for!!! I've had the recipe saved on an internet tab for weeks now and I'm pretty sure these will become a family favorite. They are sooooo much easier than making a big pan of lasagna, plus anything that's mini sized...well I'm a sucker for.

Feeling Thankful

Do you ever have those days when you are feeling extra blessed? Today is one of those days. I could rattle off a whole list of things I am thankful for, but that list would go on and on. So, in reference to this little space of mine of the web, I would like to make mention of...

+ the new clients I have had the privilege of working with so far this year (love me some BABYMANIA jobs that keep coming in!)
+ the wedding professionals I have recently been introduced to (wow, you guys amaze me!)
+ the new pen pals I've acquired (and getting to meet other awesome ones last month)
+ the new SHE PAPERIE readers and followers (thank you for making me feel cool)
+ and last but certainly not least, those of you who have been kind enough to take the time to leave a nice comment or send a sweet message my way (I'm not going to lie, it kind of makes my day).
