The World Masters Mountain Running Championships 2012 took place at Buhlertal in the German Black Forest on Saturday 19 May 2012 over a 9.6km uphill-only course with 780m of climb (http://www.wm.tv-buehlertal.de/). The event comprises separate classes for each sex in 5-year age categories: in F45, Sue Ridley (Edinburgh AC) took an excellent bronze medal in a field of 39 with a time of 54.46; in M40, Paul Rogan (Forres) finished 18th among a field of 120 with a time of 48.15; in F55, Elaine Stewart (Cosmics) finished 16th in 70.22; and in M50, Hugh Buchanan (Central) took 61.43 to finish two-thirds down his race in 102nd. There was also an open race for those under 35, and Catriona Buchanan (Ochils) finished 3rd woman in 52.32, just 2 days after racing at the Grand Ballon race in France.

A good time considering the conditions; just over a minute slower than the record. First male vet in 5th place was Chris Tomlin followed closely by the first male super vet Alan Smith in 6th place with Bruce Manning as first M60. The first female was Veronique Oldham, with Liz Delaney second and Anita Hamilton third.
