Seems like English Honors students are going to be on roll this week. Today the School of Open Learning B.A. Hons English Part I was released on DU's website, which you can access here. It seems now part II results of English Honors will also be declared by this weekend.

Relief to final year B.A. Honors English students.

B.A. Hons English Honors Part III Results (pdf file)

After a long wait Delhi University has finally took off for the declaration of results of undergraduate examinations at its distance education wing, School of Open Learning. B.A. Hons. English Part III result was out today much to the relief of the long awaiting students. The results were uploaded today at Delhi University's website, however it is yet to be updated on SOL's website. So, many students were unaware of it till midnight. A good samaritan shared the link to the result on our SOL Connect's page, living up the the spirit of the effort we are trying to make, we students helping each other by sharing.

While other students still have to wait for some time before there results are declared. And many are quite restless about the results as can be seen from many queries on the SOL Connect's page daily.

It is a humble request to the University of Delhi's authorities to at least declare the results of passing out students as soon as possible as they may be in dire need of their final year results in respect of employment purposes.

School of Open Learning results are usually after the results of regular colleges of the University of Delhi are released. It puts thousands of students of SOL, DU in mental agony over a long period of time. M.A. Political Science Sem II and M.A. Sanskrit Part II were released today on School of Open Learning, DU's website.
Heartiest wishes to all the successful candidates.

Results for other courses are still due in line, and students have a dreadful wait pending. We hope the results will come in time, for passing out students need 'Results' for taking admission in further studies or while applying for job.

The admission process of B.A. Programme/B.Com./B.A. (Hons) Prog. English &

Pol. Science, B.Com. (Hons) courses for the Academic Session 2011-2012 of the

School of Open Learning, University of Delhi, Delhi shall start from 1st June,

2011.

The Prospectus for admission to the above under-graduate courses will be

available w.e.f. 1st June, 2011 at the School of Open Learning (North Campus),

University of Delhi, Delhi & its South Study Centre, Old Moti Lal Nehru College,

Building South Moti Bagh, Nanak Pura, New Delhi from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on

all working days.

University of Delhi Annual Exam Admission Ticket

Annual Examination of the Honour courses(English/Pol. Science) at School of Open Learning, University of Delhi are commencing in May 3rd, datesheet has been already announced. Some information regarding admission ticket.

Admission Ticket and Date Sheet
The Admission Ticket containing Examination Roll Number, Examination Centre and the Date Sheet for the examination will be sent by post on receipt from the University about a week before the commencement of the said examination.
In the event of any subsequent change in address a specific request should be addressed to Assistant Registrar (Examination), School of Open Learning, University of Delhi, Delhi - 110007, super scribing the words CHANGE OF ADDRESS FOR ------------ EXAMINATION, and enclosing a self addressed envelope.
Students are advised to ensure the receipt of the Admission Ticket/Date Sheet etc., before the commencement of the said examination, failing which consequences shall be the responsibility of the student concerned.

Duplicate Admission Ticket
In the event of non-receipt of the Admission Ticket (Examination Roll Number) and Date Sheet referred to above, the duplicate Admission Ticket will be issued two days before the commencement of the said examination, for which the students are required to approach the office of the School of Open Learning, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007, and South Study Centre, South Moti Bagh , New Delhi along with an attested copy of passport size photograph, the Identity Card and latest fee receipt issued by the School.

Annual Examination Date Sheet Revised

Schedule of the annual Examination of Honours courses in English, Political Science, Commerce of Delhi University (including the SOL students) have been revised. According the new datesheet the final examination of above mention courses will commence a week later than original schedule.

Revised datesheet can be accessed at this page.

Where as there has been no notification about the datesheet of the B.A. and B.Com Programme courses uptil now.

Well buddies, the schedule has come, the most unwanted and painful time of the year. With the year all gone in masti now the time to get our asses on ground and grab some books. Delhi University annual exams start from 3rd May this year.

Attention English Honors Part 1 students, a notice regarding reschedule of PCP Classes for English Honors Part 1 has been floated at the SOL website. Following is the complete text of the notice. To see the notice click here.

BA(H) Part 1 students may note that classes will begin on 10/1/2011. However there will be two sections for students. The students are requested to carry following textbooks with them when they come for the classes. They will be given the schedule for the classes at the center itself.

Have you registered at School of Open Learning, DU's website http://sol.du.ac.in yet?

Well if not yet, then we can do it now also and set up your profile.
The best and most important part is that by registering you can easily update your mobile phone and correspondence address provided in the SOL database instantly, from anywhere provided you have internet and a computer.

Mobiles often get lost and then visiting North Campus just to update it is veryyy tiresome (queues and all).
So just few steps by which you can register yourself at SOL website.

Visit http://solticket.du.ac.in/SOLSite/Stud_Profile.aspx , its on left side "Please register before using"
Fill in the details(Roll no., Date of Birth, Name etc.) and do remember to put YOUR EMAIL only, as the password is sent on that id.
Within a minute you will get a confirmation email with your password on the email ID provided by you on previous step.
Using your roll number as "username" and emailed password to login. [login link http://solticket.du.ac.in/SOLSite/Login.aspx]

You can later change your password from the default system generated password to the one of your choice. And this is only for North Campus students. :(

Last date for migration from School of Open Learning to a regular college extended.

Migration to a regular college in the second year is a convenient although hard earned way for the students who were not able to make it into a regular college due to low percentage in 12th boards. Foremost criteria being an appreciative score in the Part 1 examination along with availability of seat in the desired college.

Results for the various courses among BA(Prog) and B.Com were late this year, the latest result being declared in the first week of November. This delay has definitely strained the student's expectations of migration from SOL to other regular colleges, as classes in most of the regular colleges start from mid August adding to the woes of the expectant migratory birds the last date for the migration this year was October 16, 2010.

To make up grievances caused by the late results on the aspirations of students hoping to migrate to a regular college, the last date for migration has been extended to December 16, 2010.

"It is notified that the last date for migration of students from the School of Open Learning to regular courses has been extended till 16th December 2010 for the academic year 2010-11."

This step is a last minute fire fighting action but at the end of the day, students have to bear the eventual loss, due to the delay. The delay in declaration of results marred the expectations of prospective students who burnt midnight oil to obtain a good percentage so that they 9Y745PKR6VYT can fulfill their dream of studying in a regular college. The extension of date tries to fix the problem partially as the delay has hurt the main motive of joining a regular college, with have of the academic year already over.

After putting two academic calenders to the trash Delhi University has finally settled on the third and supposedly final academic calender for this year. Thus putting the end to the confusion regarding when examinations would be held.

According to the new calender the winter vacations will be from December 25 to January 2, which means lesser holidays this time due to prior strikes. This means the SOL people will have fewer PCP classes this year as the classes are mostly held on vacations/holidays.

Summer vacations will be from June 8 to July 20. And the annual examination will be held from May 03 to May 28.

"Personal Contact Program" as they are called, a short string of lectures on sundays/holidays or more appropriate to say interaction cum guidance session for the benefit of students. These PCP classes are helpful in one or other way and very crucial too, a guidance and few tips on preparation for the paper comes handy, and in my experience uptil now I have found the teachers very helpful. On the lighter side, students get to socialise, discuss and see what other fellow students are upto.

The PCP classes schedule for year 2010 has been released recently. Most of the course have classes on weekends or Sundays only, besides B.Com(H) 1st yr and English Honors people are having PCP classes on regular days too.
Good for them.

Distance education, or distance learning, is a field of education that focuses on the pedagogy, technology, and instructional system designs that aim to deliver education to students who are not physically "on site" in a traditional classroom or campus.

That is Wikipedia on Open/Distance Learning. Many people, prospective students who due to various reasons(jobs, geographical conditions, commitments, financial problems etc.) cannot have the fruits of studying in a regular school or college always have a road to complete our education, through distance/correspondence/open learning. And not only to complete the formal education but distance learning is boon for learners who want to continue their studies even after getting out of college, or for enthusiasts who have a zeal for learning.

In India there are many avenues for Open/Distance Learning, which have benefited many learners in past and keep doing so today. Outlining the skeleton of the distance education, one is already introduced to the names of NIOS and IGNOU. NIOS caters to the need of heterogeneous schooling education upto pre degree level whereas Indira Gandhi National Open University, a national university, also accredited to be the largest university in the world has been benefiting students and learners since 1985. The School of Open Learning [a part of the Campus of Open Learning] formerly known asThe School of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education, established under theUniversity of Delhi in 1962, is a pioneer Institution in the field of Distance Education in India.

The country witnessed the beginning of an alternate mode of education when the School started with a modest admission of 900 students in 1962. The School enrolled more than two lakhs students in the Academic Session 2006-2007. On many occasions our students have been toppers in various disciplines. The admission process for various courses in the School is governed by the norms established by the University of Delhi. The examination is also conducted by the University of Delhi. The University of Delhi confers the degree to the students of the School as it does in the case of its other constituent colleges. There is no differentiation in the course curriculum followed by the School of Open Learning and other constituent colleges and Departments of the University of Delhi. In an effort to cater to the needs of a growing number of students the School established the South Study Centre at Moti Bagh from the academic session 1990-91. I guess it is a common tension in the lives of students of School of Open Learning, DU. There is always a tension in our minds about the exam dates, results, study material etc.

School of Open Learning's website is gives the information but it is one sided, they say but not listen. It is not possible for students(mostly working/ outside Delhi) to go to North/South Campus each time to get information or some simple queries answered.

So, the point I am trying to make here is that, if we form an active community it would be of great benefit to us students. Main aim is to fulfill our needs by sharing information. Because

"Nobody knows everything but everybody knows something"

So please come forward and contribute in this initiative, to form such destination/meeting point for SOL students. Where we can

Create an online community of students, alumni of School of Open Learning.
Discuss our problems. (This year minimum percentage was raised to 40 % against a simple pass (33%) required till last year. 3000-4000 students were not able to take admission due to this, need to re-define "Open" Learning?)
Get informed about important dates like fees deposition, filling up exam forms, new admissions.
Share information( Study material, Previous Years' Papers, Books, Notes)
Guidance (Seniors/alumni can always be helpful in guiding students, as we have very less exposure to teachers/classes)
