Polar Plunge!

With Polar Plunge, we are Freezin’ for a Reason!

What is the Plunge?

The Polar Plunge is our main fund raising event of the year.

Special Olympics athletes and supporters jump into the frigid waters off the North Carolina coastline in early January.

Each participant is backed by the financial pledges of individuals, businesses, or organizations “too chicken” to make the plunge themselves.  : – )

Every penny raised stays within Onslow County to benefit our athletes in the coming year.

When is the Plunge?

Our Plunge will be held on Saturday, January 8th, 2011.

It will take place at Onslow Beach, aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC.

How Can I Participate?

You can participate one of two ways — as a “brave soul” willing to face the chilly waters yourself, or as a sponsor willing to support those brave souls.

There are special rewards for both participants and sponsors, and special incentives for sponsors who donate larger amounts.

Where/How/When Can I Sign Up?

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 1st, at 6:30pm.  Meetings generally last about an hour.

The meeting is held in a classroom inside the Hospital’s Education Building, which is located to the left of the main hospital entrance.

We welcome new volunteers of all ages and abilities.  Self-advocates are strongly encouraged to attend.

The focus of the meeting is simply to discuss current and upcoming events, and to share ideas for supporting and improving the program.

We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!
