Club rides start Sunday April 5th (weather permitting)

Official club rides for 2015 will start on Sunday April 5th, weather permitting. We'll be running long and short Sunday rides, as well as the usual three weekday rides. Have a look at the club calendar for more info. Ride descriptions can be found here.

2015 Club membership cards are ready for pick-up!

A note to those who have already purchased their 2015 Club memberships: your SRCC membership card is now available for pick-up at Speed River Bicycle in exchange for this signed waiver (or this one, if you're under 18 years of age). Both a printed waiver and SRCC membership card are required in addition to any cards/waivers that you may have already submitted to or received from the Ontario Cycling Association, as they constitute membership in the Speed River Cycling Club specifically. It is your 2015 SRCC membership card that will grant you access to Club activities, not your OCA card.

So, to recap: Go to Speed River Bicycle*, give a waiver, get a card.

2015 Kit Pre-Order Window now closed - thank you for your orders!

The 2015 Club kit pre-order window is now closed - thanks to all members who pre-orderd and to our sponsors who made the great deals possible.

We'll keep you updated via email and the Club Clothing page (tab above) on ETA, but the kit should be sorted and ready for pickup at Speed River Bicycle (with your membership card) around mid-April.

A note on parking (Indoor sessions)

Just a quick heads up for people planning on coming next week, there is limited visitor parking at the venue (26 Ontario St.) There are only a few spots available in the South-east corner (farthest from the building), otherwise you will have to park on the street. Thanks!
Otherwise, great turnout of ~10 riders, good to see people back on bikes.

The pre-order window for club kit is now open until Feb. 17th. Click here and head over to the Club Clothing page to get all the details and place your order.

We have a fit-kit at Speed River Bicycle to check out sizing (and sizing chart linked on Clothing page), but all orders must come through our online shop.

We expect clothing to land by early April, when we will send a follow up email to all that ordered. Kit will be available for pickup at Speed River Bicycle.

Indoor Training Starts This Wednesday, Jan. 28!

The SRCC indoor winter training series is a go! Sessions will begin this Wednesday, January 28th at 7:00 p.m., and continue as such each week (i.e. Wednesdays, 7 pm) through to March 25, inclusive.

The location is new for this year... all sessions will be held at the Mill Street Lofts located at 26 Ontario Street, Guelph. Onsite visitor parking is limited, but on-street parking is also available. As you approach the main building/chimney from the lot you will see a smaller building on your left (you can't miss it), which is where the group will be. Bring your bike, trainer, water and a towel for 1 - 1.5 hours of pure, sweat-stained enjoyment.

This series is free to all SRCC members, as costs are being covered by the club... with thanks to our generous sponsors, of course!

Milton Velodrome - Try the Track Update

Those of you wanting to try riding the boards are encouraged to register for a Try the Track session.

The sessions at the Milton Velodrome are quite full so getting a dedicated session just for the SRCC will be difficult. I was out there watching the Canadian Track Championships the track looks fantastic. The website seems to be in much better shape now so if you were not able to register in Nov/Dec then try again now and you will hopefully have some better success.

The track will be open to the public the week of Jan 26 to certified riders.

Those of you who want to see the track there is another event the weekend of Jan 9-11. The Milton International Track Challenge has races running all weekend. Tickets are 10$ I believe. New Year, New SRCC Executive

The Speed River Cycling Club held its Annual General Meeting on December 8th, 2014 at the Guelph Public Library. Thanks to all who attended, as the member turnout and representation was quite good relative to previous years.

In addition to reviewing the past year’s activities and current club status, we elected a new volunteer executive to oversee the Club for the upcoming season. Your 2015 SRCC board of directors is as follows:

2015 Club Memberships Now Available

We're happy to announce that the Club's 2015 online membership system (hosted by CCNBikes) is up and running.

2015 Club Membership Fees are a total of $71, which includes Club Dues ($32) and the mandatory Ontario Cycling Association (OCA) insurance fee ($39)*

The registration process is similar to last year. You will need to login to your CCN account (or create a new one), follow the registration process, agree to the waiver, and make payment. A confirmation email will be sent to you.

*Please note that during the registration process you will be taken to the OCA Membership Registration page to obtain the mandatory insurance coverage. Select "OCA Affiliate Club Membership" to obtain the $39 insurance coverage. You may also opt to purchase a UCI Racing License or an OCA Citizen Permit, both of which include the mandatory insurance coverage.

Annual General Meeting

Our AGM is scheduled for December 8th at 7pm, at the Guelph Public Library (Main Board Room). The meeting is basically to elect members to the various positions within the board of directors.

Positions that are up for nomination are: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, Communications Director, Sponsorship Director, Ride Coordinator, and Directors at Large. If you would like to nominate an individual before the AGM, please email gabhan@speedrivercyclingclub.org

There will also be nominations at the AGM. Nominations must be accepted by the nominee either in writing, prior to the AGM, or in person, at the AGM. If the nominee is not able to attend the AGM, they should send a proxy to represent their interests and witness the election process. All voting will be done by ballot.

Hope to see some new faces out there. We'll have an update soon about indoor training beginning in January.

Update - Try the Track, Milton Velodrome

The Milton velodrome opening has been postponed, and we will have to cancel our existing Dec. 13th booking. Please find further details at their website. If you've registered already, they should be contacting you shortly.

Further update: It appears that the time slot has been moved to Saturday January 24th (1-3pm), and hopefully anybody who has registered has been automatically re-booked. Tentatively, we'll continue with this date/time.

Try the Track - Milton Velodrome

UPDATE:

Wow, great response! We have filled all the spots for the Dec 13 Try-the-Track session. However, if you would still like to Try-the-Track they have opened up a new session on Monday Dec 15 from 5 - 7 pm. You will need to go to the registration website, get a Milton Code (usually takes less than a day) and then register for the Try-the-Track session. Here is the link:

We have reserved 12 spots at the Mattamy National Cycling Center in Milton for SRCC members who want to give track riding a try. This is a 2 hour time slot which includes a bike rental, introduction to track riding, and then about an hour of riding on the track.

The date is Saturday December 13 from 1-3 pm. You will need your cycling kits, helmets, shoes AND pedals.

If you are interested please send an email to nespolo@labware.com to reserve your spot! We expect that the 12 spots will go quickly so dont wait to long.

Club Social

The club's annual social event is is set for Wednesday, November 12th at 7 p.m., upstairs at the Albion!

Come out and enjoy a selection of free food, a cash bar, and conversation. There will also be club awards, as well as random draw prizes for some great merchandise.

There's no cost but we'd like you to RSVP. Send an email to rsvp@speedrivercyclingclub.org if you plan to attend.

One of the club's traditions is the dishing out of some hardware. This season, we're asking our members for nominations in five categories â email them to drew@speedrivercyclingclub.org â and then we'll allow club members to vote for the nominees on the club website.
We're looking for nominees for:
1) Best male rider
2) Best female rider
3) Most improved rider
4) Community Spirit and Team Player Award
5) Rider Most Likely to Offer Roadside Assistance

Submit your nominations by Thursday, October 30. Voting will commence on November 1 and close on Nov. 11th. And just a note: winners must attend social, otherwise we give it to next placed finisher.

Sunday looks to be coolish, but with a bit of sun to warm the skin. With winds forecasted out of the west, we'll head to the rolling, country roads of the Waterloo Region. There will be a snack and refuel stop in Elmira, with options for donuts, espresso and pastries, before we ride the Fall westerlies home. Take note of the 11:00 am start.

Update: A slight change to the route to swap in some nicer roads. We'll take Sideroad 25 south to Gore Rd and then Valens Rd all the way to Concession 5W. Map has been updated.

Southerly loop down Valens Rd, through Millgrove and along Cedar Springs, with a refueling stop at the Kilbride convenience store. We'll head back via McNiven and 2nd Line. Should be a nice day to check out some early fall colours. And don't forget... 11am start time.

Radar appears to be clearing, ride is on. Only one ride on Sundays for the rest of the year, the shorter rides will be back next year. Next week's Sunday ride will start at 11am.

Something a bit different. We'll stop in Elmira on the way back.
