"Nigerians know what to expect when they approach police checkpoints. “How can you appreciate me?” ask officers, AK-47s dangling languidly from their shoulders. “Happy weekend!” say security guards from the early hours of Friday morning. Or simply: “What do you have for me?” Nigeria, as David Cameron, Britain’s former prime minister, pointed out, is “fantastically corrupt”. In Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, it is 31st from the bottom. Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari, a former military ruler, wants to change this. How is he doing? Few doubt Mr Buhari’s intent. But the task he has set himself is Herculean. Successive military and civilian governments have siphoned money from the vast revenues of their oil industry. Many locals think the problem reached unprecedented heights under the previous administration of Goodluck Jonathan. In March an official audit found that the state-owned oil company withheld over $25 billion from the public purse between 2011 and 2015. Meanwhile cartels involving government officials, militants and oil employees stole tens of thousands of barrels of crude each day. A savings account was drained, although oil prices were high for most Mr Jonathan’s tenure. And money which was supposed to arm soldiers against Boko Haram insurgents was squandered: the vice-president recently estimated that the previous regime diverted $15 billion through dodgy arms contracts. Since Mr Buhari came to power in May 2015, dozens of public officials and their cronies have been arrested by a beefed-up Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The most famous of those, the former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki, is charged with dishing out $2 billion worth of fake contracts for helicopters, aeroplanes and ammunition. Under new management, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has grown slightly less opaque: it now publishes monthly financial reports. Shady “swap” contracts which trade crude oil for refined petrol have been renegotiated and the worst of the last regime’s oil deals are under scrutiny. The chairman of one local company, Atlantic Energy, was arrested last year, shortly after the ex-petroleum minister was arrested in London. In all, the government claims to be recovering about $10 billion of stolen assets (though most of those will be tied up in court for years). It has also cancelled a fuel-subsidy racket which, at its peak, cost Nigerians $14 billion a year. Mr Buhari’s government has been learning from other crusading countries, such as Georgia. But not everyone is impressed. His political opponents, who ruled Nigeria for 16 years until 2015, call the campaign a witch-hunt. There are reasons to doubt the capacity of the anti-corruption agency—and of the courts—to hold the powerful to account. The EFCC is yet to send down any of its most influential adversaries, though it is splurging on training for prosecutors. Most government agencies, including the one that collects taxes, do not make their budgets public. Nor do most state and local governments, which suck up about half of public revenues. In an effort to fix this, a tenacious finance minister, Kemi Adeosun, has told skint governors that they must make their finances public before they receive a second federal bailout. She has struck thousands of ghost workers off the public payroll. Her “treasury single account” may be the biggest coup of all. It replaced a labyrinth of government piggy banks, giving Nigeria more control of its earnings. Financiers reckon that it could serve as a lesson to others in West Africa as well. The continent’s most famously corrupt country might yet teach others a thing or two about transparency.

The Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards aim to encourage inspirational women entrepreneurs worldwide to solve contemporary global challenges by:

Since their inception in 2006, they have accompanied 162 promising female business-owners and recognized 58 Laureates.

The annual competition involves two rounds:

Cause if you are then I can understand wanting to fix your relationship even if you had gotten pretty upset with them. There are a few methods you can take first is the active version and after the passive version.

Now to take the active approach and if your ex is willing to talk then this method should be the most straightforward, but if the heat of the last argument hasn't cooled down between the both of you then it most likely will lead to another word fight. First, come to understand what the argument was about. Then, if the argument is something you regret and that you truly want to get back together then you need to express that with your ex. Now, they might not want to talk to you and still feel upset, but you should kindly tell them that the argument went way out of hand and anything you said wasn't how you really felt and that you would want to possibly talk things over with them. Having sincerity in your words is far more important than pride at this point, but if they won't give you time they certainly don't deserve your attention.

Next we have is the passive method this one focuses solely on self evaluation and to get your ex to look at a fresh you. This one is probably the better option for both you and the entire relationship. The reason I say that is because if you look from how you were before, during, and after the relationship you gotta make some decisions based on how you feel towards yourself. Are you happy with who you are now? If not then you should choose this option, not only is it possible you'll catch your ex's attention, but you will feel better about yourself along with it. The steps for this method is easy. First, try changing your hairstyle to something you normally don't do, but look good with.

Next, spice up your wardrobe with something new for instance try different colored shirts that might bring a different feel that isn't usual for you. Now, the next step should be easier and something you need to think about less before doing and that would be to just hang out with your friends or some new companions and just enjoy yourself. Now the final step after separating any sad feelings and partly moved on from your ex if you still want to get back together. Talk to your ex with that new found confidence and bright appearance they just might jump at the chance to get back with you. This might make you happy to realize that your hurt feelings from the past are still there and the only reason your standing there now is because of how you feel towards them.

If you can't get past all of the drama with your ex they might not be worth it and then its time to move on and if you take the passive method you will most definitely come out with less scars and a lot more hope for future relationships that you can work on with them and even decide some things up front to prevent past problems to reoccur. I hope my insight is useful for many situations and even help those that need to move on, because there is no fix all answer.

What is Love? Most people do not know what it really means to love someone

I Love You! We often hear someone say 'I Love you!', but do they really? Most of the time such feelings have very little to do with love, instead it's an emotion called lust.

Our parents usually have true love for us, and many children truly love their parents, although when disciplined, there are times, when both parent and child may feel anger and hurt, but true love is always there, and returns stronger than before after the disciplining is over.

Many people really think they know what love is all about, but in fact we don’t really know what is true love at all, this is the case for a lot of young people that are dating, and even for many newlyweds, they feel they cannot be happy without constantly being around their spouse.
When a young person dates, their minds are constantly filled with thoughts and strong emotions of their boyfriend or girlfriend. They struggle while at work, or School, just waiting for time to pass so they can be with the person they think they are in love with, even in marriage this continues for a lot of people, the sad fact is, this is not really love, but more likely it's an emotion called lust.
Often times, after dating for a long time, or even after being married, it seems things are not like they used to be, you now easily quarrel or fight about simple things, you find that your spouse spends more time on the computer or watching TV or being busy doing other things, but at the initial stage of the relationship they seem to want to spend all the time with you.
This is because, there never was much if any true love present from the beginning stages of dating, right into the early months of marriage, but instead it was mostly lust, and feelings of a need to not be alone.
True love takes time, and sometimes it takes years to develop. A relationship as well as a marriage will produce true love, but it takes time, and a lot of hardships and discipline. Just like when our Parents disciplined us when we did wrong as children, it was not done out of hate for us, but out of love, to help us to realize are mistakes, and to become better people.
How many of us as children, used to constantly fight and argue with our siblings, some brothers even get into very brutal physical fights with each other as youngsters, over such things as girlfriends, and other trivial things. It often takes not only years of living in the same house as children, but years of sharing in joys and well as pain and trouble with siblings, to develop into true adults that love each other.
When a piece of metal is heated by a fire, and hammered into shape, it becomes a lot stronger, just as in the case for love, it is produced by hardships and trials.

But no one likes being treated badly. The reason why it is so hard to leave is although it hurts, some of us might find in it the comfort of familiarity. Our lack of understanding cause us to stick around. Solely because we are afraid to leave. We have nowhere else to go and mostly we are afraid of things that are unfamiliar to us.

Studies say that we are attracted to what is familiar to us and that mere exposure will affect our attitude toward certain people. For instance, if you grow up with high temperamental parents, you will tend to find a partner with temperament issues. Not because you consciously find them attractive, but because of the familiarity that you unconsciously acknowledge in them.

This is our subliminal mind and we have no awareness of making such a choice. Either good or bad, our subliminal mind will let us stay in this relationship because they find it comforting in sense of familiarity.

Some people may think it is commitment and love that make you stick around with a hurtful partner. But you have to understand the difference between love and familiarity. Both breed comfort, but there is a huge difference. With familiarity, you feel comfortable because you already feel used to it and already developed the ability to deal with it. You learn how to survive and you just ignore some hurtful truths and turn your head around to the fact that you actually deserve someone much better. You find yourself stuck because you are too comfortable in your comfort zone. You assume it would be harder to live outside your circle and that you could get hurt even more.

The comfort that love gives is different. You feel comfortable with your partner not only because how kind, compassionate and loving he is to you, but also because your partner makes you feel comfortable and confident about yourself. You love your partner for what he is and for what he makes you feel about your whole you. Your heart is full with unpretentious happiness.

This kind of comfort is simple yet difficult to feel because it is rare. And if you feel like this with a certain someone, it is possible that you feel love.

To find the comfort that only love can give, first you have to make yourself aware if whether right now what you have is familiarity or love. Don't blame yourself if you keep getting in the same hurtful relationships. Remember you can't control what you are not aware of. What's important is that you are able to see the pattern that your subliminal mind makes you choose and learn from it.

It may be hard at first to let go the chains of the comfort you feel with the familiarity, and some things might be strange for you. But let the strangeness settle with you. Because soon you will realize how much happier you are without your hurtful partner. Then you can decide what kind of person you really want in your life and that you actually deserve. Let the fear pass by , and free yourself from the fetters of the past.

A 16-Years-Old Girl Caught In The Bush Sleeping With 52 Men In Anambra

A 16-year-old secondary school dropout, Ifechukwu Atunanya, has been arrested by policemen from the Anambra State Police Command while allegedly having sex with over 52 young men inside a bush in what looked like an initiation ceremony.
According to reports, the suspects were all rounded up in the bush in Awka and are reportedly members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, during the initiation of new members.

Ifechukwu, on her arrest, claimed she was forced to sleep with every male member of the cult during her initiation.
According to the state Commissioner of Police, Hosea Karma, the police acted on an intelligence tip-off that the cult members and their new entrants were in a bush performing some rituals, explaining that some items including guns, machetes and several wraps of Indian hemp, were recovered from them.
On apprehension, the Police said the suspects confirmed that as part of their ritual, every male member of the cult will sleep with every prospective female member.
“This they did in order to secure their oath of secrecy and it was during the raid we arrested ifechukwu,” Hosea stated.
At the police station, Ifechukwu claimed that she had to travel to Anambra from Abuja just to witness the initiation of new members.
In her statement, she said:
“I joined them three months ago and during my initiation; I was forced to have sex with every registered male member of the cult present that night. I was given sedatives so as not to feel what they were doing. It was not easy, but I bore the pain,” she said.
“The day we were initiated, I was the only girl in their midst. I was determined to be a successful member. I was further convinced to stay because I discovered that they were more honorable men than the other cult groups.
“I am sorry for myself and would love to be given the opportunity to go back to school,” she sobbed.
She went further to say she never knew that it was crime to be a cult member.
“I am so sorry,” Ifechukwu begged.
Another member, Ugochukwu Agbazuo, also said they are all undergraduates of various institutions in Anambra.
“Apart from some of our national leaders, we are all students. I was initiated into the cult while I was still in my first year. I had no choice but to join them because of the harassment in school. I discovered that most of the Engineering students in my school were members of different cult groups.”
Speaking further, Ugochukwu added: “If you identify with a known cult in school, the lecturers will respect you. You don’t have to buy handouts. This was why I joined them.”
“We did not steal or harass innocent people. The guns that were found with us were bought in case there was a clash in school. It is our leaders who are all graduates and working across the country that normally assists us to secure the arms. It is strictly for protection and one of the rules of our group is that you must read and pass your exams on merit,” he added.
On the issue of rape, Ugochukwu admitted that it only happened with female members.
“A female intending member cannot undergo the rigorous process during the initiation. So, our leaders suggested that the best way to get them under oath is for every registered member to have sex with her during initiation.
“She would be given sedatives during the process so that she will not physically feel the pain. Ifechukwu’s case was better because we were only 52 registered males present on the day of her initiation. All of our female members were raped,” he noted.
As the story goes, Ifechukuw’s parents, who hail from Anambra State, are still alive. However, she said that they were not aware of her secret cult activities.
“I am from a poor family and I wanted to be the light that will change the situation in my family. I got to know about the cult activity through a friend. She assured me that all the connections that I needed in life will be made if I joined the group,” Ifechukwu stated.

Is Peter Okoye Secretly Dumping His Brothers, Psquare ?

Peter has just concluded a deal with telecom giant, Globacom, to power his pet project tagged “Dance with Peter” without his twin brother anywhere in the picture. Big deal? It would have really been a big deal if he had not only recently clinched another deal with Olympian Milk, without his brother in the detail again. Maybe, this would have been less disturbing if his brother, Paul, were snapping up deals of his own. He is not. His only life-line, as it appears, is only his tie to the group, which Peter seems to be inadvertently running away from.

The defence on Peter’s side, as some people have mooted, is that he is the extrovert one while his brother is the introvert. But is Psquare extrovert or introvert?

On his solo ‘Dance with Peter’ reality TV show project, he claimed it was a dream he has been nurturing for more than five years. Kaffy, Ehis and Nosa, the Psquare choreographer are all on board without Paul in sight. Doesn’t Paul know anything about dancing?

When he clinched the Olympian Mike endorsement he said it had nothing to do with Psquare, likening himself to a footballer who plays for a team and gets solo endorsement with a separate company.
Has Peter really forgiven his brothers, Paul, and Jude, their manager? During the problem that nearly tore them apart, Peter accused his brothers of disrespecting his wife and vowed never to forgive them for it. There was also a hint that because he is the passive member in the group the brothers could do without him. Some reports claimed that the real brain of the group is Paul, who does most of the singing and composing while Peter is a mere dancer, who tags along only because of his blood tie and dance skills.

At the peak of their rift, a report claims Peter didn’t want settlement because he felt stifled by his brothers and wanted out to really discover himself. If he is on this quest he is doing a nice job of it because he has got two new solid identities without his brothers breathing down his neck.

Psquare has just won the best group of the decade at the just concluded MTV Africa Music Award and has so much going for them. It would be a shame and a big loss to African music to see this group sacrificed on a platter of anything.

A confident woman wants the most out of life and pushes herself to be the best she can be. The only way to do this is to step out of your comfort zone and into something new. Extremely talented and hard-working actress, Mercy Johnson welcomed her second child Henry in October 2014, but she is already expecting another baby with her husband Prince Odianosen barely 10 months after.
