What VTG Does

The Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT) is made up of law enforcement agencies from around the world working together to fight child abuse online. The aim of the VGT is to build an effective, international partnership of law enforcement agencies that helps to protect children from online child abuse.

The objectives of the VGT are:

to make the Internet a safer place;
to identify, locate and help children at risk; and
to hold perpetrators appropriately to account.

The VGT is made up of the Australian Federal Police, the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre in the UK, the Italian Postal and Communication Police Service, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the US Department of Homeland Security, the Abu Dhabi Police and Interpol. Assistant Commissioner Neil Gaughan, National Manager of AFP High Tech Crime Operations, is the Chair of the VGT.

The VGT delivers low-cost, high impact initiatives that prevent and deter paedophiles from exploiting children online.

The VGT, via this website, also provides advice, information and support to adults and children alike on how to stay safe online. This includes information on how to report abuse direct to the VGT. Over the past twelve months, the VGT has received over 300 reports from concerned adults and children about activity online.

What I Believe: Regarding The Dolphins, Whales, the Cove, & Town of Taiji Japan

We are Each a Small Voice, but I Believe Our Voices Ring Loud when in Unison. At this time I fear Many do not read what is put before them, but Some do, More are Listening and Concerned and with Time, More Will.

My Hope Lies in the Faith That Many People from All Corners of the Earth will Feel it in their Hearts to Act and Voice their Opinions; to take Stance against the continuing Slaughter of the Dolphins and Whales of the Oceans. I Speak of their Painful and Horrendous Capture and Death and the Choosing of a Few Singled Out with Each Entrapment in the Taiji Cove, for Amusement and Entertainment in Sea Aquariums in Far Away Places.

These Magnificent Sea Animals are not even fish, and they are no more Theirs (the Japanese town of Taiji) than the Ocean Belonging to Them. Yet they Continue to Drive them into their Cove to Kill them and Sell them for Profit.

When they are No More, and have become Extinct, Will the World then take Notice, and Weep and Wonder Why? This Town is so Proud as to Let their Families Eat the Mercury Tainted Food rather than to Turn to Other Healthy and Humane Ways for a Living. But for Those who Care, We must Continue to Speak until this Atrocity no Longer Happens.

"Reaching Out" is a 10'x30' bronze healing Monument to child abuse victims and survivors. The Monument was sculpted by Michael C. Irving, Ph.D. in collaboration with hundreds of survivors and their supporters. The Website is filled with the story of the Monument, lots of support for survivors and information about child abuse.

Healing, validation and inspiration are found at the Child Abuse Survivor Monument Web Site. Creating a National Monument Addressing Child Abuse was a passionate commitment and vision made by Michael C. Irving in 1990.

"At the Vietnam Memorial Wall in 1990, Dr. Irving experienced an epiphany about how that work of art helped America to heal from wounds that shared traits common to child abuse, including post-traumatic stress disorder, vicarious trauma, distancing and denial. As a result, Dr. Irving, himself a survivor, conceived of a memorial Monument to survivors of child abuse."

Sadly, it has just been discovered as vandalized while in storage. "The damage was discovered in a heart-rending moment during a national television interview about the Monument. Despite this latest of many setbacks, The Monument’s creator and supporters are hopeful that it will survive and be placed in a public location."

Help Raise Awareness for the Diversity of Life on our Planet & Support Madagascar:

The world is now going through a period of mass extinction as species are being threatened by loss of habitat, human hunting, climate change and many other human-related factors. The next generation will, if things continue as they are, see a world where the range of species is much diminished.

Madagascar, the fourth largest island in the world, is a world apart. Due to its isolation from the mainland of Africa it has developed many species that are unique to the island, more than 80% of its rich and diverse flora and fauna are unique to the island.

One creature that lived in Madagascar until the relatively recent past (it is thought it became extinct in the mid 17th Century) was the so called Elephant Bird or Vouron Patra. This huge creature was the heaviest bird ever to have existed and laid the largest eggs known to science. With a length of up to 37 cm they were about one and half times the size of the largest dinosaur eggs. It is the egg of the now extinct Elephant Bird that forms the basis of this event of which the aim is to raise awareness for the diversity of life on our planet and to support one of the poorest countries in the world in its efforts to safeguard its unique natural habitats for all of us now as well as for our children.

Tim Grosvenor who has instigated this event was born in Madagascar in 1958. He lived there until he was seven years old. During the time he lived there, David Attenborough the well known BBC presenter visited Madagascar as part of the series Zoo Quest in part to find a complete Elephant Bird Egg. A radio broadcast describing his trip to Madagascar can be found at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/pov The opportunity to create the Giant Egg Event with the Zoo Zurich arrived when Tim moved to Zurich in 2007. This event brings together many strands in his life which include art, protection of the environment, Madagascar and eggs. For six years, Tim was the artistic director of a similar event in the South West of France.

Bear Creek Exotic Wildlife Sanctuary was founded in 1989 by Werner Ebner. We are a volunteer driven non-profit organization dedicated to the survival of rare and endangered species. We are also involved in humane wildlife rescue and rehabilitation of animals involved in public concerns, and as always, we provide a safe haven for unwanted, abused and injured exotic and zoo surplus animals. At Bear Creek we house over 100 animals, some of which are the most beautiful and most rare species from around the world. If we have the ability to help any animal in need, then we are morally obligated to do so.

We believe that an understanding of the plight of indigenous, exotic and endangered species is critical to the future survival of life on earth. The greater the knowlege we have of the creatures we share the land with, the greater chance we have of preserving our way of life. Part of this enormous undertaking is the education of our children to understand and respect the value of the creatures around us. For many of the animals here, Bear Creek was the last resort prior to euthanasia.

Why do we need sanctuaries?

There are so many answers that it's difficult to choose the most important ones. We should never punish any animal for being born, or for being in the wrong place. They cannot control who buys or sells them, where they live, or the conditions in which they will exist. It is all up to their owners. They depend on us two - legged animals for their health and happiness. It's hard for most people to imagine a homeless tiger. After all, a person must be properly licensed to get a tiger in the first place, right? Wrong! Many regions have no licensing requirements and no regulations regarding big cats. The result is that lions, tigers, and other big cats are purchased as pets by uninformed people. There is no way to make a pet of a lion, a tiger or any other big cat. So the owner must find a new home for the unfortunate cat before it destroys their home or maims their family.

Have you ever wondered where a big cat goes when it is confiscated? Most would answer "the zoos take them" Wrong again. Considering that space is limited in zoos, they cannot and will not take big cats simply because they need a home. Also, zoo visitors expect to see animals in perfect condition. Zoos also need a place for their big cats when they become too old and arthritic, or are deemed unsuitable for public display. Whatever the reason, the big cats often find themselves without a home and they must be placed somewhere. Or be destroyed.

Many people do not understand that a baby tiger will not remain a cute, cuddly animal forever. They will grow up to a 700 - pound animal that cannot be taken care of by an average person.

If there were a way for us to let the animals go back to their natural environments, nothing would make us happier. Unfortunately, this is an impossibility, they have never been wild and had to hunt or fight for a territory, and their native habitats are being destroyed at an alarming rate. This may mean the destruction of the animal due to habitat loss, poaching, and humanizing of the animals.

The options for placement are: breeders who often use them "puppy mill" style and generate more cubs to be abused and confiscated; game ranches where, for a several thousand dollar fee, the animal can be shot as it leaves its cage and its skin be put on the floor in front of some "great hunter's" fireplace, auctions where they can be sold to anyone.

SANCTUARY: It is defined by the way it treats its animals, not by the "sanctuary" tag placed after the name. It is not a place that sells the animals, or uses them for wholesale breeding. Sanctuary is a safe place. A place where they are fed a proper diet, where their medical needs are provided, and where they will be relaxed and content as long as they live.

Parents of Murdered Children, Inc

POMC^® provides the on-going emotional support needed to help parents and other survivors facilitate the reconstruction of a "new life" and to promote a healthy resolution. Not only does POMC help survivors deal with their acute grief but also helps with the criminal justice system.

The staff of the National Headquarters of POMC will assist any survivor and if possible, link that survivor with others in the same vicinity who have survived their loved one's murder. In addition, the staff is available to provide individual assistance, support and advocacy. The staff will help interested parents or immediate family members form a chapter of POMC in their community.

POMC will provide training to professionals in such fields as law enforcement, mental health, social work, community services, law, criminal justice, medicine, education, religion, the media and mortuary science who are interested in learning more about survivors of homicide victims and the aftermath of murder.

Origin of POMC

Parents Of Murdered Children, INC. was founded by Robert and Charlotte Hullinger in Cincinnati Ohio, in 1978 after the murder of their 19-year old daughter Lisa by former boyfriend Bill Coday. Lisa had broken-off her 1 1/2 year relationship with Coday before going to Hamburg, Germany with a work-study program. While she was in Germany, Coday phoned Lisa several times, begging her to take him back. When she continued to refuse, he flew to Germany and persuaded Lisa to see him. When she again refused to continue their relationship, Coday beat her with a hammer, which put her in a comatose condition. After being informed of Lisa's serious condition, the Hullinger's obtained emergency visas and flew to Germany to be with her. Lisa was able to indicate by the squeeze of a hand that she was aware of their presence. Unfortunately, she never gained consciousness. Two weeks after her attack, Lisa died. Bill Coday was released after serving only 16 months in jail, returning to the United Stats with NO criminal record. He went back to college, obtained several degrees, married and settled in New York.

Just two months after Lisa's death, Charlotte contacted Father Ken Czillinger, a Roman Catholic Priest, who had been working in the field of bereavement. He was able to put the Hullinger's in touch with three other parents whose children had been murdered. In December 1978, just three months after Lisa's death, the Hullinger's opened their home and held the first meeting of parents of murdered children in the country. From their humble beginning of five parents, including themselves, the Hullinger's determination to survive and help others grew into a national organization. Now celebrating it's 25th year, Parents Of Murdered Children has over 300 Chapters and Contact People and over 100,000 members. Each week at the National Headquarters, POMC National Staff responds to approximately 1048 murder-related contacts.

Sadly, in 1997, the Hullinger's experienced pain, anger and devastation once again when they learned that Bill Coday moved to Florida and had murdered again. This time, he was found guilty of murder and on July 26, 2002, he was sentenced to death.

Thousands of Uzbek women are forced to undergo hysterectomies, recommended to them by their doctors as an effective form of "contraception." The procedure is irreversible, and worse--it's ordered by the government.

Under the decree, physicians must convince a certain number of women a month to have the procedure or else the physicians face fines and reprimands. Some physicians even sterilize women without their consent by secretly performing the hysterectomies when they are supposed to be doing other surgical procedures.

As Central Asia's most populous country, President Islam Karimov is concerned that Uzbek women are having too many children. This, however, is not the way for the government to control the growth of their population and it violates the rights of Uzbek women.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) launched the global grassroots campaign “Tails for Whales” to show governments around the world that there is widespread support to protect whales. Adding your photo to Tails for Whales is a great way to stand up and be counted as a protector of whales. But it’s only one way to help protect whales. Here are some other ways to make your voice be counted.

Not true! You see, Tails for Whales is a global campaign running across every country in the world. We have the support of many members of Government as well as some of the world’s most familiar faces. And the more people like you become a part of this, the harder it becomes to ignore.

By adding your photo you’re becoming part of a worldwide people power movement petitioning governments everywhere to conserve and protect whales once and for all and showing them that, when they do, they have the support of people like you behind them.

Your photo can help us make petitions. The first Tails for Whales petition book was over 600 pages long and was delivered to Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, in March 2009. We will be delivering a similar book to US President, Barack Obama, in June 2010.

What else you can do?

Encourage your friends and family to get involved. After all, the more photos we collect the harder it is for Governments to ignore us. Tell a friend about us! Click here to email to your friends and family.
If you have a camera, take your own photos of your friends, family and classmates or even random strangers (hey, we did!) and send them in. The more the merrier.
If you’re in the USA, visit IFAW’s Action Center to send a letter to your elected Member of Congress and urge him or her to support the Whale Conservation and Protection Act of 2009.

May it be shared with the AUSTRALIAN people and with people all over the WORLD. I am hoping in the face of humanity people will open their hearts and PETITION with me to no longer allow Nathan to be silenced. I hope his voice will finally be heard and the FIGHT for his JUSTICE OCCUR. We all need to make this life a safer place, for the best part of who we are, our children. My beautiful baby boy was taken from me avoidably too soon and if the tragic loss of his life can save another in a similar position, his death will not be completely in vain. The truth needs to be heard.

Nathan was only 16 years old when his life was cut short by a stab wound to the heart. He was in the care of Graham McLeish, now known as Mark McLennan.

THIS MAN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR NATHANS DEATH AND CHARGES NEED TO BE LAYED.

These are the findings of the Coronial Inquest into Nathans death. Case No: 1134/05

‘222. It is from this point on that the evidence Mr. McLeish’s contribution to Nathan’s death becomes more overwhelming. The evidence is that Mr. McLeish sought medical assistance for Nathan in the immediate wake of the injury. However, the evidence also is his failure to tell the true history of Nathan’s injury to the hospital misled the medical investigations. The evidence is that the accurate history of would have caused a different medical response and may well have resulted in the true extent of Nathan’s injury being discovered on his first presentation.’

‘224. The evidence is that Nathan’s prospects of survival from that injury with appropriate diagnosis and timely treatment were not in question. Mr. McLeish, despite his own views about what the hospital needed to know was told by his own friend whose counsel he sought early that morning that he should tell the truth. Throughout the day he made several calls seeking medical advice. It was all the same advice. Advice that he should return Nathan to the hospital and have him re assessed. Advice he did not take at any point up until it was too late. Even after Nathan lapsed into unconsciousness Mr. McLeish did not tell the truth to the treating paramedics or doctors’

‘225. I conclude from the weight of the evidence that had Nathan been returned to the hospital earlier in the day, even in the wake of the call McLeish made at about 2pm and then given a truth of the mechanism of Nathan’s injury Nathan’s prospects of a correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment and therefore survival would have been reasonable.

‘226. …In my view Graham McLeish’s failure to give a true account to the hospital of Nathan’s mechanism of injury, compounded by his failure to return Nathan to the hospital in circumstances where his condition remained unimproved and he was sufficiently worried to be calling for advice and receiving advice to return Nathan to the hospital contributed to Nathan’s death’ .
