Nursing students hold immunization clinic

Last Saturday, 30 senior nursing students gave flu shots for the H1N1 virus to around 2,000 people at Casa Grade High School in Petaluma.
The vaccine was given to public health services across the country. In Sonoma County, this was provided by a mass immunization clinic, where residents of the county can be vaccinated for free, according to Jennifer Yuhas, senior.

Academic Senate recommends diversity coordinator

The Academic Senate unanimously passed a resolution last Thursday to recommend the position of diversity coordinator for Academic Affairs.

"It is my position that diversity on this campus is a vital part of the student's education tied into the curriculum," said Robert Coleman, the senator who proposed the resolution.

Students support the search for a cure for breast cancer

As October came to an end, so did National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Many organizations on campus have been doing their part to raise awareness by fundraising, participating in the Making Strides Breast Cancer walk and even setting up a memorial.

Students can also participate in raising awareness for the disease.

Naomi Klein, author of "The Shock Doctrine: the Rise of Disaster Capitalism," spoke to a crowded Cooperage about her new book and how it relates to the future of California and the world.

"Disaster capitalism" is defined as the rapid-fire corporate reengineering of societies still reeling from the shock of a crisis, such as Hurricane Katrina of 2005 and the ongoing aftermath of the Iraq occupation, according to Klein.

Sonoma State American Language Institute celebrates 30th anniversary

There are things that we are embarrassed by. The stereotypical example is the guy in high school who plays football, but really likes theater and doesn't want his friends to know. We all have that part of us that we keep to ourselves, not because we want to keep it private or that it is wrong or illegal, but because we fear that it will negatively alter the way our friends and family view us because we are the only ones who truly understand it.

Friends from the past, new friends, life-long friends; these terms are used constantly to describe people in our lives, but how do we differentiate between them? How do we determine when a friend becomes an old friend, and how can we be certain that a person will be a lifelong friend?
