The New Protective Foundations

The range of whitening base make-up a.k.a. Protective Foundation, has been newly formulated by increasing the power of sun protection. This new foundation diffuses light reflection and minimizes pore appearance while enhancing the contours of the skin. It contains upgraded Micro Flat & RFP powder for firming sensation to optimize the silky finishing.

The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) has been increased from 35 to 38, while the PA as a protection grade of UVA system (UVA will cause DNA damage) is remained. “Rock Me!” is going to have a new sibling for this coming summer! The newbie known as “Rock Me! Summer of Love” accordingly will be born on 15 February 2010 in Malaysia.

The Design

Since Anna Sui has been revealing her latest collection in the spring/summer 2010 line, there is no exceptional inspiration for her new fragrance. The style that Anna Sui captured in the collection is undoubtedly defined as an ode to a hippie style, the sixties and the world of Bohemian. Look at the bottle and its outer carton, isn't it so romantic?

The Keywords

indie, folk rock, sweetheart; beautiful, free-spirited; rock n'roll with a feminine beat; soft, elegant and sweet.

The Scent

Count on Anna Sui to lighten the mood with a rollicking, free-spirited romantic style suits the scent of “Rock Me! Summer of Love”. It has a hippie feel with the addition of refreshing, flowery and ultra-feminine notes, such as white peach, freesia and Rose. Starting from fruity and flirty opening, over gentle song in the heart, the fragrance finishes with warm and dynamic accords.

Inspiration

Inside the largest tent at Bryant Park, Anna Sui presented a spring 2010 collection that inspired by the circus scenes in “Doctor Dolittle” , which is very Sixties Victorian.

In 1967, producer Arthur P. Jacobs released a feature-length musical version of Dr.Dolittle, based upon the children's stories of Hugh Lofting.

The New Trends & Styles

The clothes were pure big-tent of hippie in Sui's designer world, it showed lots of references to an overt cool sixties and seventies theme.

Sui is steadfastly in her stellar circus-themed Spring, showed tall marching band hats, embroidered capes and cropped jackets with rope epaulettes, and lots more tomboyish looks than usual.

There were also a lot of ringmaster's jackets!

Colors started with Sui's favorite color, which is purple, that printed with circus animals, paisley, daisy flowers, butterflies and apples.

Then transitioned into bright, intense colors and vivid prints with liberty patterns recolored as “à la Anna Sui” . It's playful sixties!

The models' smiles already told us that Sui had remained her affinity for the boho vibe, no wonder she succeeded to produce a fun, playful collection with lots to love.

Rock and roll is so much a part of my life that I wanted to capture its energy, independence, and playfulness in a fragrance that would let every girl be her own rock star.

The Concept

Rock Me! is promoted as a “wild young floral fruity essence,” and it comes across more as pop music than as glam or classic rock. Its personality is expressed pretty well by an animated “Rock Me!” TV commercial.

The fragrance design is inspired by Japanese Visual Kei (ヴィジュアル系) refers to the Japanese Rock indie band members with striking make-up, unusual hair styles, elaborate costumes and “girly”looks! Their music genre is related to glam-rock and punk, which is well described for the image of the fragrance “Rock Me!”.

The Front Girl

The face for the fragrance is model Agyness Deyn who plays the role of a candied-colored, brooding rocker with an obsession for black and creamy-neon pinks and purples.

Deyn can also be seen these days on the bottle of the limited edition of Jean Paul Gaultier Ma Dame titled “Rose'N' Rock”, which also looks cool and playful.

The Eau de Toilette is a fruity floral with :
Top notes - green orange, peach skin, Williams pear
Middle notes - honeysuckle, jasmine nut and waterlily

Her Greenwhich Village home, featured in the September 2009 issue of Elle Décor, is a mélange of ebony lacquered furniture, rococo mirrors, chinoiserie wallpaper and flower patterned upholstery, the same featured in a very recent Sui collection.

Sui's collection of busts by Gemma Taccogna is displayed in the study alongside furniture painted glossy black;
the walls are covered in a chinoiserie paper by Stark and antiqued mirror, and a taxidermy peacock from the Evolution Store sits atop an inlaid chest from ABC Carpet & Home.

The kitchen cabinets by Petrit Coma were inspired by an antique pie safe; the cooktop is by Wolf.

The bathroom’s Italian mirror and sink were lacquered and outlined in gold leaf by E. Polarolo & Sons, the wall covering is by Cole & Son, and the sconces are by Vaughan.

The dressing room’s custom-made shelving is by Petrit Coma, and the antique étagère is from ABC Carpet & Home.

My Review

The White Strip is one of my favorite bands since they released White Blood Cells (2001), but Icky Thump (2007) is without a doubt the most diverse and experimental album The White Stripes have ever released. Icky Thump is also the weakest and worst album that The White Stripes have ever released. However, I found I couldn't ignore the title track "Icky Thump". When I first heard this, I was intrigued by this combination of dissonance and rhythm. Despite of the title track being the only real track on the album that is a true classic and worthy of listening, the rest of the album largely plays together and feels like one piece.

The collection consists mostly of revamped base make-up items that feature new packaging and advanced technology. my brief review

Looking at the bottle, you guys might already know it's a new fragrance from the house of Sui Love, wow, it still remains their cute appealing and attractivenes! I'm glad the smell doesn't like the former one which is overpoweringly floral, yet its staying power is even better.

The bottle design is adorable, as Anna Sui fragrance bottles always are. Its shaped like a purple-and-red guitar and embossed with butterflies, stars, and peace signs. If Jimi Hendrix had a granddaughter, she’d probably love displaying this bottle on her dresser.

When I first learned that Anna Sui would be doing a Gossip Girl inspired collection for Target, my reaction could best be described as“Yokatta!”(良かった literally means“was good”). And now that The Cut has managed to get their hands on some leaked images from the look book, all of that squealing seems pretty much justified:

A closer look at the collection revealed some surprisingly similar elements between Sui's collection for target and some former runway looks for her namesake luxury line.

From the Anna Sui Fall 2006 runway show matches designs with a 'Vanessa' dress from the Anna Sui for Target collection.

Sui's iconic "pirate dress" from her Spring 2007 runway show reprised in a similar Anna Sui for Target 'Jenny' dress.

A blue patterned dress from the Fall 2006 runway show seemed to serve as inspiration for a blue, belted 'Blair' dress from the Target collection.

From Anna Sui's Fall 2006 runway show looks strikingly similar to one of her 'Serena' dresses for the upcoming Target collection.

I have to say, Sui's done a pretty brilliant job of representing the whole Gossip Girl gang in the collection: There's a Blair tea party dress, a Serena leather jacket, and more than a few cocktail dresses that would probably lure the whole cast. Typically, Blair's outfits are all a little buttoned-up, Serena's have dashes of sex appeal (though some think not nearly enough), Vanessa's are all very Brooklyn-boho, and Jenny's have a downtown party girl vibe (she is my favorite cast among the others).

The collection includes unique prints, bows and cute minis. The line will be in stores and online September 13 through October 17. The pieces, all priced under $50.

In anticipation of the CFDA awards, which happens on 15th June 2009, Style.com has posted a fun video with longtime friends Marc Jacobs and Anna Sui. Staged as a trivia game (Marc Jacobs has 31 tattoos, both Anna Sui and Madonna are from Detroit), the interview is more like a trip down memory lane for the two who used to be nightclub road dogs alongside Steven Meisel. The interview is only four and a half minutes long but I wanted more.

The career of Anna Sui is a classic American success story. “You have to focus on your dreams, even if they go beyond common sense. How could this young girl from the suburbs of Detroit become a success in New York? It was always that dream,” she says. Today Anna Sui has 32 boutiques in five countries and her collection is sold in 300 stores in over 30 countries. Anna still has the same love of fashion that she did when she was a little girl. At age four, she decided that she would become a designer and started to make her own clothes. She mixed a very serious approach to learning her craft with eccentric ideas, such as vowing to not to wear the same outfit twice in one year. “I was completely obsessed,” she says, “I don’t know how my parents put up with me.” Before the end of her senior high school year, she was accepted to Parsons School of Design in New York. After two years at Parsons, Anna styled with friend Steven Meisel and designed for several sportswear companies before launching her first collection in 1980.

Anna Sui’s business continued to grow throughout the 1980s, and in 1991 she premiered her first runway show. The following year she opened her first flagship store on Greene Street in Soho. The boutique’s vibrant mix of black Victorian furniture, purple walls, papier mache dollheads and rock n’ roll posters closely reflects Anna Sui’s personal decorating style and has been the model for all of her shops. The late 1990s was a time of significant growth for Anna Sui; she embarked upon a hugely successful expansion in the Far East, where she quickly established a huge cult following. She also launched cosmetics, fragrance, shoe and accessory licenses. Her devotion to detail is apparent in every one of her products, which are all intimately connected to her world. Her iconic make-up packaging and fragrance bottle design have even become collectors’ items.

Anna Sui is known for her commitment to the things that move her. Her devotion to rock and roll makes her clothes perfect for a rock and roll superstar, and her runway soundtrack is one of the most anticipated each season. Her love for shopping has made her an authority on the best shopping in every city, and her passion for interior design created a visually stunning NYC apartment. Following her own inspiration, Anna Sui continues to inspire. She is living her dream.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America isn’t the only organization tipping its hat to Anna Sui this year.

The designer, who is receiving the CFDA Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award at Monday’s 2009 CFDA Fashion Awards, just made a quick trip to China, where she was honored at Saturday’s China Fashion Awards in Beijing.

Sui took home the Shanghai Media Group’s Classic Icon of Fashion and Design award at the awards ceremony and gala, which included a fashion show featuring 30 looks from her fall collection.

First Lady Michelle Obama will receive a special tribute award. Honorary awards will also be given to Anna Sui (Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award). Marc Jacobs has already won an award — the International Award for his work at Louis Vuitton (he's nominated in two more categories).
