Selections from Arlene Braithwaite's Drawing Class

Southern Utah University will be exhibiting the artwork of Arlene Braithwaite's Class.

The exhibit will be open Monday through Friday, May 2- August 28, 2009, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and admission is free and open to the public.
One of a Series. Each piece in the show was selected from a series of drawings from Arlene Braithwaite's Drawing III class. At the beginning of the semester students developed a personal theme that was to provide direction for their work. The theme approach allowed student artists to go into their work more deeply, with added involvement and great concentration. In addition, the artists were able to work with greater independence. For some the theme guided the work, for other the theme evolved during the semester and for a few artists the theme became a dead end and had to be discarded and a new theme created. the opportunity for serious extended commitment to an idea is intended to encourage in students a more professional approach.

Southern Utah Art Invitational: Summer Exhibit and Sale

This new juried exhibit is in cooperation with the Braithwaite Fine Art Gallery, Cedar City Art Committee and Cedar City Artisans.

This exhibit continues the tradition of the annual Cedar City Art Committee exhibit as an invited artist, juried event. This year’s exhibit will display over 250 pieces from many mediums of art including painting, photography, wood ‐carving and ceramics. Some of this year’s artists include Karen Gale, Susan Harris, Brad Holt, Jennifer Rasmusson, Kate Starling and Melissa Sullivan among others. This invitational Art Show and Sale will run concurrently with the summer season of the Utah Shakespearean Festival just a short walk from the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery.

The Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and is located on the ground floor in the Braithwaite Liberal Arts Center building on the east end of the beautiful SUU campus.
