Fall Wish List

2013-10-18T12:16:00.002-07:00

One thing I love about living in San Diego is the ability to wear anything I want in the fall season. Sure it may be 80 degrees today but did that stop me from wearing my flannel? Nope! I just paired it with my favorite jorts (jean shorts) This as opposed to living in Colorado when dressing for fall actually means dressing in your favorite new fall attire but also knowing that you will undoubtedly be covering it up with the warmest possible snow coat as you walk out the door. I'll take my jorts and sandals any day of the week.

Here's what's on my must have list for the best season of (f) all.

1. Beanie (SCOOP reversible beanie) Also great options here and here
2. The Flute Skirt (Zara) Also love this and this
3. Chunky Knit (Halston Heritage) More affordable options here and here
4. Leopard Loafers (Charles Philip) LOVE these and these
5. Faux Leather Bermuda Shorts - Here and here are great more affordable options
6. Over the knee boots (Dolce Vita) - Here and here

My nightly fix

2013-09-12T10:54:00.001-07:00

I truly love everything about leading a healthy lifestyle but sometimes it's easy to feel deprived when you cut out some of those "not so healthy" habits.. I have a HUGE sweet tooth and have to get creative when I'm looking for something to really indulge in. That's when I came up with the best thing since well... ever. You have got to give this baby a try. The directions below are for one serving and offer up a whopping 31 grams of protein!

Protein Mug Cake

1 scoop MRM Casein Protein Powder (any flavor you prefer) I've triend both the rich chocolate and cookies and cream, both are awesome.
1 TBS Cocoa Powder (unsweetened, raw)
3 TBS egg whites
1/3 C. Water

Directions

Mix dry ingredients in mug of choice
add egg whites
slowly add water until you reach a cake batter like consistancy
microwave for 45seconds - 1minute depending on how you like it. I like to undercook mine a little so it's more like a pudding than a cake.
Devour!

The Hiatus is over

2013-06-27T11:54:00.001-07:00

First of all, I'd like to apologize for being non-existent with my updates. In lieux of sounding depressing let's just go with, I was feeling very uninspired and therefore didn't want that to reflect on here, in my creative space. Since I haven’t updated you guys in quite some time, I’ll try and sum up what I've been up to as quickly as possible. Over the holidays way back in December, Dean and I spent mostly all of our time together in his little seaside abode in Del Mar, CA. Once the break was over, I ended up hanging around a bit longer and we both decided it was time that I move in! This was a somewhat terrifying decision since I have never lived with a significant other before, let alone had a relationship that lasted longer than 6 months, and I'm 25... (I know what you're thinking). Turns out it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. This weekend we will be celebrating our one year anniversary and I swear we are yet to have a single argument. Too good to be true? who knows.. Anyway, after spending about two months in the bungalow we decided it was time to find a place bigger than the 400 square feet, we were living in. A very long two months after that, we moved a little further inland to a much bigger apartment, which meant I would finally have a closet again! We couldn’t be happier with the move and the only problem we have now is finding enough stuff to fill all the space.

We’ve officially begun the decorating process and I’ve included some (not so high quality pictures) below to showcase our progress. To our landlord’s most likely distress, we decided to plank the area above our fireplace with some old barn wood...at least that’s the look we’re going for. In reality, we picked up some fencing at Home Depot, then cut, sanded and stained! I really like the way in turned out and I can’t wait to get a few faux white taxidermy pieces, like this one to hang in the center.

The second project we decided to tackle was the entry way. It’s a pretty small space so finding something that wasn’t too overbearing was quite the challenge. Eventually, I came across the perfect piece from a little etsy shop called Vintologie. All of her pieces are truly a labor of love. I’ve included a link to her store and her facebook page which is where she features most of her new items. Eventually we decided on this little chartreuse number. I was somewhat worried about the bold color at first, but turns out it couldn’t be more perfect! I found a bunch of great little trinkets at Marshalls before we picked it up. We still plan on painting the wall that it sits against and hanging a few pieces of art above it but this is how it looks for now.

Lastly, we both decided we wanted to have a gallery wall that was one of the first things are guests would see when they walked in, so we started by painting one of our large walls this dark grey color. Turns out, grey is a pretty finicky color and will look navy instead of the charcoal you were hoping for. Instead of repainting, we decided to sit with the color for a while and it’s definitely grown on us! After we developed a love for our greyish/navy wall, it was time to hang some frames! Ikea came in handy for this one and the entire project only ended up costing us about 40 bucks. The art inside the frames came from a calendar gifted to us by Dean’s mom (thanks Mary!), the same one can be found here.

That’s our progress so far and it’s sure to be slow and steady as we go, but I promise I’ll update here as we do!

2013

2012-11-29T12:38:00.000-08:00

We're past Thanksgiving, not quite to Christmas and still a few weeks away from nye but for some reason I can't stop thinking about the upcoming year. I'm not usually one for new year's resolutions as I think you should be "resolute" at the beginning of each new day, however I feel like I need to take some time to figure out what I want in this shiny new year, so I thought it might be a good idea to put my 2013 on paper. I've categorized my focus's into eight subjects and it's really helped me to formulate where I need to take action and apply my 2013 energy. What do you want your new year to look like?

Happy Almost Halloween!

2012-10-30T11:43:00.001-07:00

I absolutely love fall but for some reason halloween is not typically my favorite holiday. So this year I tried to have some fun with it, hoping it might change my outlook on the otherwise dreaded holiday. I did most of my decorating using DIY inspiration. Here’s a picture of my Halloween Dessert table (sorry for the image quality). I cut out the bats using the template found here and they actually turned out MUCH better than I expected. I also attempted to make these (which could use a little extra schnapps next time around!). Lastly I hollowed out pumpkins to use as flower vases. I forgot to snap a picture of them but I love the way they turned out!

Fall Festivities

2012-10-15T12:10:00.001-07:00

This weekend we finally made it up to the charming little town of Julian, CA. It was a welcome escape from the endless summer that's still lingering around most of southern California. We didn't get a chance to actually try the locals infamous pie so on the way home we stopped at an orchard and picked some apples to make our own. I hope you also had a chance to embrace the changing of the seasons over the weekend. Happy Sa-voring!

Ever since my post about the Reiko Kaneko gold drip tableware collection I’ve been desperately searching for something that could suffice my longing for this perfect piece (and wouldn't cost me a small fortune). I was delighted enough to hear that Zara would now start selling their home goods online, but yesterday when I finally had the chance to view the collection, I couldn’t be more thrilled to find the perfect white &gold alternative. Among other things…

This week is off to a great start and I'm anxiously awaiting the upcoming weekend since my parents will be visiting from CO! A welcome and much needed break from these hectic last couple of weeks. For now, let's focus on another awesome piece sent to me from SugarLips :) It's not all that often that I come across a jacket so versatile that it can easily transition from funky to formal. This one would also look great paired with the perfect lbd and booties for a fancy night out.

Tip Top Tuesday - Cafe Au Lait

2012-10-02T07:45:00.000-07:00

Let's begin this Tip Top Tuesday with one of the pieces that I was lucky enough to pick out from the Sugarlips collection. This chiffon button down with gold collar tips is one of my absolute favorites! Yesterday was the first day that it really started to feel like fall, even though it was 70+ degrees, the slow rolling fog seemed to stick around all day and left me feeling a bit of nostalgia for the upcoming holidays. Today I plan on picking up some things to make my absolute favorite fall recipe found here. What's your favorite thing to make or bake when the weather turns crisp?

Tip Top Tuesday

2012-09-18T15:39:00.000-07:00

Happy Tip Top Tuesday!

I absolutely love the changing of seasons and it feels good to know that booties, bundling up in big comfy sweaters and the changing of the leaves is right around the corner. "Seasons" are a little different now that I live in San Diego (as in, Pumpkin Spice Lattes act as my fall indicator opposed to the cool crisp Colorado air) nonetheless, fall is still by far my favorite time of the year. I hope everyone has a fabulous rest of the week!

Summer is winding to a close and just when I finally felt like I was getting into the summer spirit bikinis, bro tanks and bright summer days have so rudely decided to put one foot out the door. That said, with the arrival of fall, I guess there's something to look forward to in the layered pieces, riding boots and cozy sweaters.

While perusing the web for an excuse to make my fall wardrobe purchases I came across Old Navy's site and.. excuse me.. but where the hell have you been the last five years! Well done Old Navy, Well done.
