Norse Code are an awesome band who play the morse code of the song’s title; in this case the morse for “Annihilation of Earth”. I’m a big fan, both conceptually and musically.

The challenger disaster was a terrible tragedy which I remember watching on TV as it happened in 1986. I am a great fan of what NASA does, and am saddened that their heyday is past.

There’s no real reason to put these things together, but I thought it might be interesting.

One of my favourite songs, Terror Couple Kill Colonel by Bauhaus, cut to footage of one of my favourite actresses, Olivia de Havilland in the utterly mad (and terrifying) Lady in a Cage (1964). The film was notable for being James Caan’s first credited role. It reminded me of Deliverance.

My challenge was to make a video that wasn’t likely to scare children, having been accused (with some justification) of being “too sinister” in the last few (Worm Tamer by Grinderman, Korsakoff’s Psychosis by Return to Netley Things Have Changed, Caligulove – Them Crooked Vultures & Betty Boop, Manners by Return to Netley Things Have Changed, Hominid by Return To Netley Things Have Changed, etc.).

I first heard this version of Dinah Washingtons’s (achingly beautiful) song (like everyone else) in the closing credits to Shutter Island, Martin Scorsese’s latest movie.
