Melbourne, Feb 7 (TruthDive): Australian great and former skipper, Steve Waugh has said that the quality in Sachin Tendulkar’s batting will never diminish even if he does not score his much awaited 100th international century.

“I think it’(s a huge statistic and India is obsessed by stats. The whole country wants him to get his one hundredth (100) so maybe that’s where the real pressure is coming from.

“It will be nice if he could get it down the road, but if he doesn’t get it I certainly won’t think any less of him as a player,” Waugh said. Waugh compared Tendulkar’s failure to score his hundredth 100 till today with Don Bradman, who retired with an average of 99.94. He also said it may be possible that Tendulkar does not have it in his destiny to score that elusive hundred but felt it is highly unlikely.

“He’s a great player. You know Bradman wasn’t meant to average 100, maybe Sachin Tendulkar is not meant to get a hundredth century. But I think he’ll get it pretty shortly,” Waugh was quoted as saying by ‘The Australian’.

Tendulkar, stranded on 99 international centuries since March last year, moved in the vicinity of 80s in the current test series against Australia. New Delhi: God of cricket Sachin Tendulkar achieved another milestone as he become the first player in history to score 15,000 runs in Test match cricket against the West Indies at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi.

Sachin Tendulkar ended the day unbeaten on 33, Playing in his 182nd match, Tendulkar reached the mark on the third day of the first cricket Test against the West Indies when he scored his 28th run in India's second innings with a single off leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo.

After crossing the coveted milestone, the batting maestro looked up at the heavens and acknowledged the standing ovation given by his teammates from the dressing room as his partner Rahul Dravid congratulated him.

The West Indian players also came up after the completion of the over to congratulate the iconic batsman.

Sachin Tendulkar was 35 runs short of 15,000 before this match and he scored seven in the first innings before being adjidged leg-before off Fidel Edwards.

With 14,422 crowd cheering him, Tendulkar, who came in at the fall of Virender Sehwag's wicket when the team total was 95 for two, played cautiously with India needing 276 runs to win the match.

He hit just two fours after facing 76 balls to reach 28. The 38-year-old Tendulkar, the world's most prolific batsman, now needs just one hundred to complete a historic 100 international tons. He has scored 51 Test tons and 48 ODI hundreds.

Tendulkar is the first cricketer in the history of the game to reach 12, 000, 13, 000 and 14, 000 runs in the Test format. He is the leading run-scorer in both ODIs and Tests, as well as in the number of centuries scored.

Tendulkar is the first Indian cricketer to break Sunil Gavaskar's record of 34 Test centuries, and is also the only player in the limited-overs format to score 200 runs in an innings.
