The main musical fare will be a performance of Mozart's powerful Great Mass written in 1782 when he first spread his wings as a freelance musician in Vienna. Written for Chorus, Orchestra and 4 Soloists.

Contemporary English Composer Cecilia McDowall's poignant Magnificat will provide a perfect prelude to Mozart's classical work.

SCSO Concert Master Michael Anderson - RIP - Sept. 25, 2014

Dear SCSO Chorus & Orchestra Members, Alumni, and Friends,

We are very sad to inform you that Michael Anderson, the founding Concert Master of the SCSO, died peacefully this morning after an amazing 7 year battle to cancer and complications with pneumonia.

Michael Anderson, SCSO Concert Master 1996-2007 – Sea Symphony – October 2006 -
Sacramento Community Center Theater - Donald Kendrick, Conductor

Michael served as the SCSO’s Concert Master for 11 years from its establishment in November 1996 to May 2007. He worked closely with us in our performances at the Sacramento Community Center, Memorial Auditorium and the UC Davis Mondavi Center.

In the Fall of 2007 Michael and the SCSO passed the Concert Master position on to Michael’s wife Cindy Lee.

For many years Michael also an anchor with the Sacramento Symphony, the Sacramento Opera Orchestra and the Sacramento Philharmonic. He clearly left his musical mark throughout our entire community. Michael was fiercely proud of his daughter Chloe.

The SCSO plans on dedicating its May 2015 season finale performance of Songs of Eternity in Michael’s memory.

The instrument, built by genius builder Munetaka Yokota between 1984 and 1990, was spearheaded by University Organist Emeritus Dr. David Rothe and inspired by a desire for historically accurate and fine instruments. Builder Yokota called on local residents to help and used local materials to build this organ over a six-year period. It is one of the best historic organ builds in California and one of the best instruments in Northern California.

The Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra with Music Director Donald Kendrick are currently holding membership auditions primarily for Tenors for their 2013-2014 Concert Season. The Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra are celebrating their 18^th year of performances in the Capital Region with concerts in the Sacramento’s Fremont Presbyterian Church, Memorial Auditorium and the Sacramento Community Center Theater. Join us for a blockbuster season continuing the tradition of large choral and orchestral works for the Sacramento community.

The SCSO is comprised of 160 singers from six counties in the Sacramento region. They have received the “Arts Excellence Award”, the “Outstanding Non Profit of the Year” award and the “Arts Executive of the Year” award for their work in the Capital Region. The SCSO's Sound and Spirit performance on Sunday, March 10 at 3 PM at the beautifully renovated Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament was dedicated in memory of a dear friend and colleague, Carol Newton Hawk, who died of very aggressive inflammatory breast cancer that same week.

As part of the SCSO's Stained Glass series at the Cathedral, Sound and Spirit offered a moving and thrilling combination of light and sound for a sold-out audience. SCSO Photographer Ronnie Johnson captured the spirit and intent of the performance honoring Carol Newton Hawk via his amazing photos.

Wells Fargo invests $70,000 in the Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra

Sacramento, Calif., July 3, 2012 – Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC) announced today two $35,000 grants to the Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra (SCSO) to support two large scale choral orchestral concerts for their 2012 – 2013 season.

The funds will help underwrite the productions costs of the SCSO’s traditional annual standing-room-only Home for the Holidays concert - renamed the Wells Fargo Home for the Holidays concert - on Saturday, December 8 in Sacramento’s Memorial Auditorium. Wells Fargo also plans to underwrite the SCSO’s year-end performance, Lest We Forget - An Armed Forces Salute on Saturday May 18, 2013 (Armed Forces Day) in the Sacramento Community Center Theatre. Wells Fargo’s total underwriting for the SCSO’s 2012-2013 season will be $70,000.00.

Wells Fargo’s support will help the SCSO maintain reasonable ticket prices for families in the region. Tickets to the Wells Fargo sponsored concerts will be made available to low income families, identified through their participation in Title 1 schools, as well as to a host of Veterans in the region.

According to philanthropy experts, corporate giving is at its lowest level since the 1970s. Thanks to Wells Fargo’s outstanding concert sponsorships, the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra and Conductor Donald Kendrick appear to be bucking the trend as they head into their 2012-2013 season. A fiscally accountable arts organization since 1996, the SCSO is thrilled to partner with Wells Fargo on this level to build community through the arts.
