Gerakan to unleash Teng Chang Yeow on UMNO

Newly elected Penang state BN chief Teng Chang Yeow, has taken the bull (remember Cow Story?) by the horns by stating that Gerakan will now manage UMNO in Penang. After being totally obliterated during the 2008 political tsunami Teng has vowed to make Gerakan take control of "out-of-control" UMNO and vowed to do the same to MIC and MCA if they ever step out of line.

Well known for his ability to (er..., please fill in the blank for me here) Teng will now make UMNO do what he wants them to do and make sure they do not do anything silly like making funeral arrangements for present Penang CM and stepping on the photo of past chief ministers.

Teng will also ensure that UMNO do not become a racist party and uphold good human rights principles like the rest of the citizens in this country who are able to assemble peacefully despite being assaulted by riot police with tear gas and batons.

Teng will also ensure that no headless chicken, pork or beef will be strewn around religious places e.g. temples and mosques and no fires to be lighted near churches or inside churches using Molotov cocktails.

If UMNO decides to give contracts to spouses of ministers and parliamentarians Teng will rise to the occasion and call for MORE EVEN distribution between the component parties as well as clearly stated by one of their ex-ministers that "all the other ministers are the same" and so there should be fair distribution to all no matter what party he/she belongs to.

If UMNO decide to elect a new commisioner for the Election Council, Teng will ensure that his past membership record in UMNO will be completely erased from the face of the earth lest that it be discovered by some mischievous souls from PKR.

And if a royal commission or an independent committee is to be formed by someone close to UMNO, Teng will not sleep until he closely vets their relationship to UMNO i.e. check what are the positions they have been given to him/her by UMNO in the past e.g. if they have been given a directorship in Genting which is a company deemed not so "halal".

The people of Penang should now sleep more soundly knowing this invaluable fact.

The recent debate by DAP and MCA was very much hoo-ha and not so much in real action. Ir was like waiting for Transformers 2 and getting Scooby Doo instead.

However the highlight of the event must have been the Q&A session where an interesting lady brought up some very (un?)pertinent issues but managed to score high points in visibility.

Jessie Ooi (now dubbed the Tow Truck Lady by netizens) stepped forward during Q&A and showed her prowess as an upcoming MCA leader but managed to get her foot shot-off and at the same time managed to show everyone how low MCA has sunk.

About 500 protestors, mostly students, marched to Umno's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today in a lively protest demanding greater academic freedom.

The students took part in a march and handed over two memoranda to Suhakam and the Government, demanding, among others, the abolition of the controversial University and University Colleges Act (UUCA).
Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SMM) chairman Ahmad Syukri Abdul Razab, who led the procession yesterday, said the students wanted to send a message to the Government that they would not put up with restrictions to academic freedom that had been “worsening of late”.

“Lecturers have even been restricted from voicing out academic views. This Act also restricts students from involving themselves in the country's democratic system,” he claimed, adding that around 500 students from all over the country had participated in the rally.

They marched from Suhakam's office at Jalan Sultan Ismail to the Umno headquarters at Menara Datuk Onn where they handed over the second memorandum to Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah at about 4pm.

Police aided the movement by helping to direct traffic and clear the way for the march.

Ahmad Syukri praised the actions of the police, saying it showed Malaysians were mature enough to hold peaceful street demonstrations.

The students also lowered a flag bearing the Prime Minister's image at Menara Datuk Onn and raised the SMM flag during the afternoon protest.

Ahmad Syukri said the memoranda contained six demands, including abolishing the UUCA, Educational Institutions (Discipline) Act 1976 (Act 174) and Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996 (Act 555); allowing university students the freedom to speak out and manage campus elections, societies and activities; and to participate in politics.

UMNO's General Assembly got up to speed when Minister Shahrizat blatantly showed off her family's prowess at gaining the upper hand in obtaining government handouts. It was "business as usual" as UMNO members applauded Shshrizat's tenacity and gung-ho attitude in what many will see as typical UMNO arrogance, pride and the "I deserve it" attitude in obtaining handouts from a government under their control.

" But then, this is UMNO and in UMNO you have to show off what you reap from the rakyat.

And in this Bolehland it is indeed laughable to see the problem being passed on from the Auditor General which first discovered the crime, to MACC who refused to investigate a senior minister and passed the buck to the Police which of course will prescribe the usual "no evidence found" solution! And now in this General Assembly the perpetrator tries to blame everyone else while her boss (another cow - Moohyiddin) tries to defend her to protect his own crimes.

Bloomberg's reports on Penang's progress has BN trembling

In the first seven months of 2011, Penang won 3.6 billion ringgit ($1.2 billion) of approved foreign manufacturing investment, ahead of the 3.4 billion ringgit that went to Selangor, the state that surrounds the capital Kuala Lumpur, a government report showed last month.

It’s not the first time the state has set the pace for technology investment in Malaysia. Penang, a base for the spread of British influence in the 18th century, was the center of a manufacturing push in Malaysia’s shift from rubber and tin production in the 1970s, attracting companies including Intel Corp. (INTC) and Robert Bosch to assemble chips and build car radios.

Penang’s economic resurgence may bolster the opposition alliance’s claim it can be an alternative to the National Front, which has run the country since independence from British rule in 1957. A national election may be called with 60 days’ notice at the discretion of Prime Minister Najib Razak.
“A lot of this has to do with the dynamism of the chief minister,” said Ong Kian Ming, a political analyst at UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur and columnist for the Edge newspaper.

Lim has managed to keep Penang attractive for international companies even as Najib focuses federal support on regions such as Johor and Sarawak, where his ruling coalition has among its biggest parliamentary-seat majorities.

Penang had 16 percent of the country’s approved foreign manufacturing investment from 2006 to March this year, government data show. The state, a tourist destination with beach resorts and a colonial-era town designated as a United Nations World Heritage site, made up 8.1 percent of Malaysia’s gross domestic product in 2009, based on constant prices.

Najib slips out quietly to Perth on Independence Day while exhorting the nation to spend thriftly

While this may be old news to many, I just caught this article where he made the following comments while in Perth on a supposedly private visit (but using Malaysian government's money, no less):

"We deliver what we promise; we will not promise you the sun, the moon and the galaxy. That will be for others to promise."

Ex-CM Koh is now a daredevil cyclist!

It all started with the Kwong Wah newspaper advertisement showing appreciation to the 1Malaysia Bicycle Ride on 25 September 2011 which was held in Straits Quay Penang. The original picture was posted with the headline on the same day.

Now you see him!

But the advertisement picture inside the same newspaper was showing Koh Tsu Koon riding next to the Najib, which is the Prime Minister of Malaysia. But the fact is: Koh Tsu Koon was never in the picture! The incriminating picture was enhanced by an image editing tool such as Photoshop, showing Kok Tsu Koon there like a miracle.

Since both the original picture (headline) and the enhanced picture (advertisement) were posted in the same newspaper, some readers had noticed that and commented this phenomenon on major social networks such as Facebook and forums.

That day Koh Tsu Koon was left behind the bicycle team after he had a minor altercation with the other riders. Some might even say he was knocked down by some mischievous Penangites?

Well, we would like to reveal to our readers that Koh is actually a much better cyclist than what the state media had tried to portray.
