A Touch of Purple

Thought I would share with you some purple themed wedding stationery that I have had the pleasure in making for some wonderful couples.
The large photo was a lavender themed wedding it was glorious, as it was held in France surrounded by lavender fields; these boxes contained scrolls with a wedding quiz and each box was decorated with a personalised tag and ribbons. To add a finishing touch the bride provided all her guests with little bags (small middle bottom) containing lavender seeds for them to grow.
Then we move to Italy (top small photos) a simple pocket invite with the wedding date in Roman Numerals, the invite had a photo of where the groom popped the question. To complete the look they had place name tags that hung from favour cones ready to take to the sweet buffet. Each table had menu cards to match.
Then the 'Initial' themed wedding, the bride and grooms initials were used to decorate the invites, the order of service and the seating plan, the bottom small left photo was the place names and inside each was the guests menu choice.

I am currently making these affordable British Heart Wedding Invitations, a simple design with crisp clean lines and high quality card wrapped around an insert with the all important wedding details.

The design was inspired from the build up to all things British and the feel good factor we have to be from Blighty.

They have all been printed, trimmed, scored and now they are ready to be assembled and sent to the happy bride & groom to be. I am going to be busy, I hope you like please leave me a comment.

Favours, place names, menus all this to think about is enough to drive you crazy when trying to organise the sit down meal for your wedding. Little hearts printed with a unique personal message, then gently folded in half and adhered to a card front printed with random dots in neat rows; a little red & black heart was added to break up the repetition.

A bit like the folded fortune tellers we played as kids, but without the fortune telling!

I took a simple square of card you can use patterned card or like me create something yourself, I used these for wedding favours and printed the couples names on each side. I then scored lines on it a bit like a noughts and crosses board with four scored lines from the corners, when folded four little pockets are formed.

Line the favour box with tissue and add your little favour gifts to the box.

Punch holes in each point and thread ribbon through and tie into a bow.

I wrote the text below for the last CraftFest which was in June, but I feel that it is perfectly relevant to the September CraftFest too; I've tweaked it a bit!

While sitting at home at the beginning of September, why not go shopping for handmade items from the latest innovative invention, an online craft-stall. You've been dying for the kids to go back to school and there is no denying that you are craving some 'me' time!

There are no parking fees or finding a space to worry about, its no problem if its tipping it with rain; no pushing and shoving to look at the items and in the enthusiasm to be first through the door knocking trellis tables over - oh yes - its happened to me!

Sit back, relax, have a cuppa at the ready and browse the various online stalls at this summers CraftFest...and if you leave up your bunting from the Olympic celebrations you'll feel positively nostalgic about the whole thing.

Visit the stall by simply clicking on the banner above...now isn't that easier then putting the key in the ignition.

The CraftFest starts on 1st Sept and is open for business until 8th Sept..now that's 7 days of 24hrs shopping.

Candy Dreams

Just wanted to share these candy coloured wedding accessories with you.

The hearts are so cute with the couples names repeated in various sweet candy colours and then cut into heart shapes to scatter over the tables where the guests will be dining.

Each guest knows where they are sitting with these scallop edged names tags that are decorated with candy dots that match the confetti. Each tag is threaded with a coloured wax cotton cord, or this set some are in lime green and some are in a sugar pink.

Take time to think about your guests and what might create a sweet smile on their faces.

The Making of the Elephant Invitations

Today I thought I would share with you how I made these romantic elephant wedding invitations for a wonderful couple who are planning their wedding in Sri Lanka.

The design is printed onto high quality pearlescent card, and then using a clean brush I brushed water around the image allowing it to seep in slightly, this gives me a better base to be able to tear the card with.

I follow this method for every elephant image, creating a square with torn edges every one ends up different which I think is so exciting as no 2 invites will be the same, how unique.

The next stage was to sew a zig zag stitch each side of the image, with a sewing machine that kept dropping stitches you can imagine how time consuming this was I have to admit a lot of elephants ended up in the bin!

All the threads then need to be pulled through and tidied up on the back you need lots of patience for this.

I can now say with thanks to my Mum I have a brand new sewing machine x

Things are now beginning to take shape.

I printed each card onto the same pearlescent high quality card, this is achieved by creating the background colour and overlaying the date of the wedding. Each is scored in half and then guillotined to size.

We're not there yet, using a strong adhesive I mounted each hand torn elephant image onto the scored card and left them while they dried.

I then worked on the insert which carried the text for the invitation, printed on matching pearlescent paper each invite had the guests' name incorporated making it much more personal than a general invitation.

Next was the R.S.V.P.'s and the information cards, printed onto the same card at a size slightly smaller than the main invitation. Also pre-printed reply envelopes and printed addressee envelopes.

I mounted the insert and then started on tying the ribbon, again you need to have lots of patience for this and very nimble fingers so that you tie it tight enough, any slack and it will look shoddy.

Once the ribbon was in place I made sure the knot was at the middle front and on the inside the R.S.V.P. is tucked behind the ribbon along with the envelope which must me tucked over it and then the information card on top, this is the usual order but it can be altered you don't have to follow the rules!

I love making these invitations and on this occasion the image was so apt as the wedding is in Sri Lanka.

The bride and groom were very happy with them and I am sure they will have an amazing day.

Love in a Mist

Well the day finally arrived for Sarah from Love in a Mist, and their was no mist to be had just the love drenched sunshine that welcomed the couple as they said their vows.

Sarah really worked hard to make her day special, she made her own dress, the jewellery, accessories, favours, seating plan and tons of other things to set the most beautiful scene.

A break from the normal bunting, no chintzy fabrics or national flags. Beautiful hearts with a scalloped edge and mounted upon each flag is a letter that spells out Mr & Mrs, all threaded onto cotton twine. It measures about 2m and would look beautiful hung at a wedding visit Perfect Day Wishes for a peek.

When 3 babies are born in one weekend to two sets of sons what better way to congratulate the grandparents than with this little keepsake tag card.

With all the bunting floating so beautifully from every place that it can possibly be tied to, please take a moment to make sure it is hanging correctly.
Okay, call me a stickler but if your gonna hang it, do it right. The union jack can be rotated and it will still be the correct way up, but it cannot be inverted as it is not a reflective symmetry.

Take note of the white diagonals: the wider white diagonals should be above the red on the side that fixes to the hoist, pole, bunting...

Flying the flag upside down is a signal to indicate 'distress', it is also insulting the crown, which in theory is still a crime in the UK.

Have fun this Jubilee weekend and fly your jacks with pride.

Cupid Swirl Tags

So the sun finally appears and what do I spend my time doing? Having another tag-fest with my creative juices at the moment, so more tags are being developed. I am lost in a word of swirls and ribbon right now, and these are the my latest design. Traditional shaped gift tags printed with a whimsical swirl and threaded with silve/grey sheer ribbon. They look amazing blank, but I they also come with pre-printed messages, choose one, two or all three.

Candy Dots Place Name Tags

The brightly coloured jewels of all those hard candy sweets are just my favourites, sherbet pips, rhubarb and custard, aniseed twist, popping candy, lemon bon bons all those rot your teeth beauties!

Scrabble Letters

Chocolate brown and mint fused together to create this cute good luck card. Mint patterned paper is stitched to the chocolate brown spotted paper, lined stitching on one size and zig zag the other. A big circle printed with good luck sentiments and also personalised and edged with brown colour box. Scrabble letters spell the sentiment and a tin girl holding a balloon. All wrapped together with some very nice grosgrain ribbon.

Apples for your Bunting

Why not opt for something a little different for your bunting?

My Wedding Ring

I wanted to share with you 'my wedding ring'. Its not platinum like most desirable rings these days, in fact its plain old 925 silver!
What I love about my ring is that it is unique; there maybe others that were made but the shop I bought it from only had the one and when I saw it I fell in love with it and I love it now 15yrs on as much as I loved it then.
The ring was made in Orkney by Ola Gorie which has a reputation for being of high quality craftsmanship and excellent design. The Scottish and Celtic jewellery by Ola Gorie is timeless and individual, as individual as I am!
The best thing about this ring is that I chose it because its me and it symbolises the eternal love for the man I married.
