Final Update on Hurricane Irene Path

Although not as bad as expected, Hurricane Irene’s punch still hurt. Right now, although Hurricane Irene has been downgraded to a tropical storm, Philadelphia, PA is experiencing terrible flooding, more so than ever before. Boston, MA is feeling the now 60 MPH winds and lashing rains.

As expected Hurricane Irene made landfall in North Carolina causing wind damage, some flooding as well as power outages. Several injuries and deaths have been attributed to this hurricane.

Hurricane Irene path is a bit more firmly in place today with it expected to hit landfall on Saturday August 27 2011 at around 8:00 AM at a strength of Category 1. The winds have dropped from 110-115 mph to 100 mph. Heavy winds and rain will be felt far earlier.

The east coast of the US is bracing for a major impact from Hurricane Irene, with many mandatory evacuations being announced. Even New York City has a mandatory evacuation for zone A residents and other low lying areas. The subway systems will be closed as well.

Hurricane Irene path is being predicted Now, as worst case scenario. This hurricane passed over the Bahamas with winds of 115+mph and has left immense damage.

The Hurricane Irene path is now more firmly in place, with it skirting the coast of Florida.

The Florida east coast should experience stronger winds than normal, rain from the outer bands of the hurricane, and higher surf than normal. No significant damage is expected, however many of the Floridan beaches are closed.

Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, may take the brunt of Hurricane Irene’s path on Saturday, August 27, 2011 to early Sunday August 28, 2011.

The governor of North Carolina is urging evacuation of the North Carolina barrier islands as well as the coast of North Carolina.

Hurricane Irene is then expected to continue to travel up the east coast into the New England states.

This hurricane is being predicted to be one of the biggest hurricanes to ever hit the northern east coast states.

Hurricane Irene, the first violent weather system of the season to truly threaten the United States in over three years, is growing bigger and stronger. It is now a Category 3 Hurricane ((Sustained winds 111-130 mph, 96-113 kt, or 178-209 km/hr Saffir Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale). However, people on the southeast coast of the US should prepare for the worst.

FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate advises even people people further north of the Carolinas should also be prepared.

June 2011 Tornadoes Springfield Massachusetts

The very first day of June 2011, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Connecticutt, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, received tornado watch alerts in the early afternoon.

Unfortunately for the residents of Springfield, Massachusetts and surrounding towns, the tornado watch turned into a reality.

On the afternoon of June 1 2011, an EF3 tornado hit downtown Springfield, Massachusetts plus surrounding areas. The tornado caused roof collapses and even damage to brick structures. Homes were destroyed as well.

Many injuries occurred and three deaths have been reported due to this unusual Massachusetts tornado. This is the first tornado in Massachusetts since 1995 which has caused death.

June 2011 Tornadoes Central Plains – June 19 – 22, 2011

There were a series of tornado watches that were given for the Central Plains USA during June 19 through 22, 2011. Many tornado storm chasers reported sightings of tornadoes with most of them occurring over the open plains, causing little or no damage.

However, on June 22, 2011 hit in the Louisville, Kentucky area. Five tornadoes were confirmed in the area with two being as bad a an EF2.

May 2011 Tornadoes Second Deadliest Month

The first 3 weeks May 2011 Tornadoes were not too bad. However, that all changed on May 21, 2011 and lasted until May 26, 2011! The worst and deadliest tornado during this time ocurred in Joplin, Missouri on May 22, 2011. It was classified as an EF-5 Tornado.

The Joplin, Missouri Tornado killed 141 people and injured 900. It is recorded as the deadliest tornado in the US since April 9, 1947 (Woodward Oklahoma Tornado killed 181). Massive destruction tore apart large parts of the city of Joplin.
