Kristen Stewart has reality fright. On-screen, her unleashed energy captivates and her face offers no unfortunate angles. But off-screen, her discomfort is palpable. In her endearingly unpolished public appearances, she fidgets, scratches, runs her fingers through her hair, and generally bungles her words. (Who can forget her audible throat clearing at the Academy Awards?) Her awkwardness seems to arise from a profound distrust of the media, the limelight, and especially of her considerable recent success as the female lead of the billion-dollar-grossing Twilight movie series. Still, uneasiness this extreme is surprising in an actor, someone who has signed up for a lifetime of being watched.
Then again, extreme also describes the maelstrom into which Stewart and her costars, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, have been thrust. Not since the heyday of the Brat Pack in the 1980s has a constellation of teens incited such hysteria. “It’s a crazy anomaly, this teen-idol phenomenon. I can’t think of any like it since the Beatles,” says David Slade, director of Eclipse, the third installment in The Twilight Saga, which arrives in theaters at the end of this month. “We’d be [shooting] in a remote location, in the middle of a forest,” he continues, “and fans would be at the side of the road with flowers at five in the morning.” Twilight mania is such that even those who haven’t seen the films, in which Stewart plays Bella Swan, the all-too-human love interest to Edward Cullen’s blood-starved teenage vampire (Pattinson), know that “KStew” may or may not be dating “RPattz,” her consumptive-looking, bushy-browed costar.
Stewart arrives in the ornate lobby of California’s Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, a venue chosen for its proximity to a middle-class section of the San Fernando Valley where Stewart was raised, the only girl among a bevy of brothers. There’s Cameron, her biological brother, who is 24; Taylor, who is Stewart’s age and was adopted at age 13; and Miles and Obie, friends of Cameron’s “that we’ve like helped along the way,” she says. “I’ve always said I’ve had a bunch of brothers because we have a bunch of boys who are like family.” Cameron is a film grip; her parents, John and Jules, also work in the industry (Mom is a script supervisor, Dad a stage manager).
“It’s insane! Once somebody finds out, you have to get the hell out of wherever you are,” she says emphatically, attempting to convey the madness that has become her life. “People freak out. And the photographers, they’re vicious. They’re mean. They’re like thugs. I don’t even want to drive around by myself anymore. It’s fucking dangerous.” It’s a sweltering late-summer afternoon, and Stewart is dressed entirely in black, from her Joy Division T-shirt to the polish on her short nails—the usual teenage suit of armor. Her hair is also black, dyed and chopped into a retro-modern mullet to play Joan Jett in The Runaways, a film she has just finished shooting. As she talks, her words tumble out in knots; she edits herself, starts over, restates her (often wryly funny) point, so that many times it’s made through the accumulation of half-uttered phrases. She fiddles with the multiple silver rings (including one made from a spoon handle) on her skinny fingers. Throughout the interview, she bounces one knee.
Stewart, who turned 20 in April, has worked consistently for the past decade, often in independent films, but she admits the Twilight frenzy has taken her by surprise. “Somebody knocked on my hotel room door and asked for a light, then said that they were a big fan. I was like, ‘Do you really need me to light your cigarette? How do you know what room I’m in?’ ” She mourns the loss of her privacy. (“I can’t be by myself, and I like being by myself,” she says.) “Who wouldn’t who has a soul?” says Jodie Foster, who starred with an 11-year-old Stewart in Panic Room. “It’s a very different time from when I was growing up. We didn’t have those lenses that were 150 feet long, or maybe we had them, but there was still a real delineation between the public and the private.”
What’s mystifying to Stewart—and likely to anyone with either a shred of empathy or a tendency to clam up in public—is the looking- glass reality in which her manner, rather than eliciting sympathy or mere shrugs, has made her a figure of derision. “I think it’s funny that when I go onstage to accept an award, they think I’m nervous, uncomfortable, and awkward—and I am—but those are bad words for them,” Stewart says. She still frets about her MTV Movie Awards appearance last year, during which she fumbled her award, a carton of golden popcorn (then blurted, “I was just about as awkward as you thought I was going to be. Bye!”). “I fucking flung my award on the stage…and I was like, Everything I just said? Gone. Gone. I might as well have just erased it. And they were like, ‘I love how she goes up there and tries to be so serious. She is so pretentious. Why does she always try to sound so smart when she’s not smart?’ ”
The “they” and “them” to which Stewart refers, and to which she returns frequently in conversation, as though to linguistic worry stones, are tabloid journalists, bloggers, and online commentators. Later, I ask her to define this “they.” She gives me an isn’t-it-obvious look. “The people that write shit on the Internet…the professionals that talk bullshit on TV. Bullshit people.” It’s as if she’s internalized the critical voices of our tabloid culture, those whose primary aim is to tear down the idols they themselves have created. But she’s so young and full of promise, that as you watch her ape her detractors, you find yourself hoping she’ll survive the celebrity spin cycle.

From flirty dresses and utilitarian separates to ’60s trompe l’oeil and futuristic motocross, the spring/summer 2010 shows offered looks that were smart, playful, and chic

The strong woman that has dominated the runway the past few seasons was swept aside in a flurry of tulle, ribbon, and bows at the spring 2010 runway shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. It appears designers are abandoning a woman whose fortitude matches her survival instincts in favor of something more flou and flirtatious. Their reasons may have to do with cutting budgets—short, transparent chiffon dresses cost less than their longer, more structured counterparts. But while women will always want to look sexy and beautiful, that doesn’t mean they want to appear as if they couldn’t run the world if asked.
That’s not to say there isn’t any sass in this season’s boudoir babes. John Galliano took the ’40s Hollywood siren approach to his state of dishabille by channeling Lauren Bacall in her Humphrey Bogart days, when all a femme fatale had to do to get a man was purse her lips and exhale. Peter Copping’s first collection for Nina Ricci was a delightful exercise in lingerie dressing with layered ruffles and lace. Opting for faux innocence, Chanel had one of its best shows to date, complete with models tromping among haystacks in Karl Lagerfeld’s barnyard wearing eighteenth-century poof-shouldered jackets and short pannier skirts, flower-colored crochet suits, and lace-covered burlap or beribboned dresses. At the show, Lily Allen’s surprise performance of “Not Fair” was proof positive that Lagerfeld knows the younger generation prefers to take its frills with more than just a soupçon of irony. Girls don’t want to just look pretty; they sometimes want to pair a smart-alecky loud mouth with their interlocking C’s.
Oh, the days of just yearning to be a supermodel, mere designer, or lowly slogging-it reporter. Now you have to be a superstar before launching a career in fashion. The lines between pop culture industries have blurred so much that it’s no longer enough to have just one career by the time you’re 25. You need to have three: singer, actor, and, now, clothing designer. What next, brain trust physicists and astronauts? Peripatetic early starters like Justin Timberlake, Allen (who, in addition to modeling for Chanel, launched clothing and jewelry lines), and the Olsen twins (the Row is a favorite of fashion editors everywhere, by the way) know that their style (stylist-manufactured or not) is a beacon for their millions of fans, but they’re doing more than trying to fill their already bulging bank accounts, I think. There is a sincere desire to take a populist approach by sharing one’s ideas of what’s cool to wear, and if you make some extra moola on the side, all the better.
But celebrity designing disastrously careened into a 42-model pileup on the runway at Ungaro, where actress Lindsay Lohan was appointed artistic adviser. The show itself looked more like a rehearsal for a finale of leg-kickers at a porn convention than a runway show for a storied atelier. Heart-shaped pasties bobbed on bare breasts (and, oddly, foreheads) under shirred-jersey, crotch-grazing dresses and skirts, and oversize boyfriend jackets replete with heart-shaped cutouts and fringe, now and again—at times paired with leggings (Lohan’s signature), of course.

Singer says she got a "borderline positive" result

Lady Gaga told Larry King she is worried for her health after testing "borderline positive" for lupus.

"As of right now I do not have it," Gaga told King in a show that airs Tuesday night. "But I have to take good care of myself.

The 24-year-old pop superstar, who nearly collapsed on stage last month, said lupus runs in her family, and killed her aunt Joanne. But she reassured fans that she has not yet shown any symptoms.

A borderline positive lupus test result antibody tests are at the upper limit of what is considered normal.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects connective tissue. It primarily affects women and kills by attacking the heart, lungs liver, kidneys and nervous system. With treatment, victims can live for decades.

Rihanna thinks that Katy Perry and Russell Brand are perfect because they're both "hilarious, rude and disrespectful."

The 'Rude Boy' singer - who is expected to be bridesmaid when the couple marry later this year - became friends with the singer and the comic separately, but admits she would never have predicted they would embark on a relationship together.

She said: "I met him a few years ago when he interviewed me, and became friends with Katy later, and it's so funny because I would never have put the two of them together.

"But when she told me it made so much sense. I was like, 'Of course you guys would be together, you are both just hilarious and rude and disrespectful, it's perfect.' "

Though Rihanna is outspoken about Katy and Russell's relationship, she is more tight-lipped about her own romance with American baseball player Matt Kemp, who she has been dating since the beginning of this year.

The 22-year-old pop star said: "We are not in an official couple or anything. He is nice."

The actress- admits she can never see herself playing a character like Cinderella - a fairytale character who is transformed from a drudge to the belle of the ball by a fairy godmother - because it is nothing like how she is in real life.

Angelina - who raises six children with partner Brad Pitt - said: "The cleaning the floors or the knight in shining armour? I don't know, I don't think any of them sound like me."

The 'Tourist' actress admitted she is mainly attracted to playing characters who are "vulnerable", even though some of them seem tough.

She explained: "I play women that I think are vulnerable. Like in 'Girl, Interrupted', I have a huge breakdown - very emotional, very unhappy, but she's considered psychotic and a scary, tough woman."

While Angelina prefers "vulnerable" characters, a former bodyguard of the actress recently described her as "totally psycho".

He said: "Angelina has a public and a private persona. In my opinion, the real Angelina is self-centred and a control freak. She has no patience at all. She doesn't do things out of the kindness of her heart.

"And she's totally psycho . she screams and yells a lot, then ways away."

Making for a fun-filled day at the race track, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian joined mother Kris Jenner in attending the 94th annual Indianapolis 500 in Indianapolis, Indiana on Sunday (May 30).
With the trio of lovely ladies checking out all of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway offerings, they mingled with pro football star Lynn Swann while watching the cars speed around the track.

In the end, racer Dario Franchitti (who's married to actress Ashley Judd) grabbed his second win at the historic track by a race ended under caution.
Prior to hitting up Indianapolis, Kim was busy bringing in a little extra cash with an appearance at The Pool After Dark at Harrah's Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
