Dropping Rotocopters

Many of the 7th grade students lined up on the balcony with their rotocopters in hand.

Last February, I traveled to Guatemala with a support team for an incredible week of volunteering at the Safe Passage schools. With nine other students from Falmouth High School in Maine, I spent my days running around with kids at the Escuelita, helping out in English classrooms, and guiding art and science projects in classrooms at the Reinforcement Center. One of the most memorable and exciting moments of my week was when our support team led one 7th grade class in a project called “rotocopter building”.

Where the Wild Things Are

Beginning this school year, we introduced two morning theater classes as part of our Creative Expressions program. Our Monday class works with Primera Basico (12-13 year olds) and focuses on collaboration, team work, and imagination. Sara El-Solh, the Library Coordinator, is working with me (Elena Chernock, the Creative Expressions Program Coordinator) to adapt the story ¨Where the Wild Things Are¨ into a stage production.
