History of Rajmachi
Rajmachi, a picturesque region consisting of two stubborn peaks namely Manaranjan and Shrivardhan, is a magnificent tourist destination in the state of Maharashtra, India. Rajmachi is famed for the fort and is near to the twin hill stations Khandala and Lonavala in Maharashtra. Shrivardhan is the biggest peak with a height of about 3000 feet and Manaranjan has an altitude of 2700 feet. There is a serene plateau between the peaks. Rajmachi has a verdant history as the part of many rulers and invaders of the country. The fort symbolizes the political turmoil Rajmachi witnessed.

The fort in Rajmachi can be considered as two forts, one each in both the peaks. The fort is constructed to have an overview of the konkan region down. Rajmachi is renowned for trekking; one can trek from the Tungarli Lake region to Rajmachi through the breathtaking rocky natural trek routes. The ancient caves known as Kondhavi enclosed by the Rajmachi fort offer a nice view of the ancient creative architecture on rocks.

Places to visit in Rajmachi
Manranjan Fort - West part of the Rajmachi fort is Manranjan Fort. Its construction was strong so that no enemy could destroy it easily. The fort was built to have a watch on the plateau down the Manranjan hills. The fort has three entrances and also has a water tank at the top of the peak.Presently the fort is in ruins and the government and local authorities are taking necessary steps to preserve this historical fort. The fort offers an excellent panoramic view of the plateau down. Fort is placed at the peak of the hill which is vibrant with thriving natural beauties

Shreevardhan Fort - Shreevardhan Fort, an ancient fort spotted with the history of Maratha rulers, is situated to the east region of Rajmachi town. The construction of the fort is in Martha style architecture and the imposing entrance of the Shreevardhan fort is in a semicircular shape. The fort is built at the pinnacle of one of the peaks in Rajamchi, so that one can view the movements of the downhill region. The view from the fort is breathtaking with wide greenish landscape and undulating hilly terrains. The fort encloses attractive Buddhist caves and two water tanks with plenty of water all through the year. Bhairavnath temple adds the attraction of the Shreevardhan fort.

About place
Raigad fort
"Fort Raigad is much more than a mere tourist spot. It is a sacred place of pilgrimage, which has left an imprint of the grand vision of Hindavi Swarajya as cherished by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj."

Fort Raigad was the capital of the most illustrious Maratha sovereign, nurtured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It is a monument of his prophetic vision of Hindavi Swarajya. Raigad fort in located in Raigad district.

This is a preamble prior to your electrifying excursion around Fort Raigad. It has been described by European historians as 'The Gibralter of East'. Various landmarks have lent it the credo of 'Shivtirth'. The holy shrine has become vibrant by the valour, courage and patriotism of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The sheer vertical rock face tearing into the sky above, appears defiant and insurmountable. It has stemmed many a foreign aggression and protected the Hindavi Swarajya during those historic times.

Pratapgad fort
Pratapgarh, a very strong hill fort built by Shivaji in 1656-58 AD, is 24kms west of Mahabaleshwar and about 145kms south of Pune. Before Shivaji, the hill, known as Bhorapya, was a flat-topped high round rock at the head of the densely forested Koyana basin. The construction of the fort was entrusted to Moropant Pingale, who later became Shivaji’s Peshwa, and Hiroji Indulkar, the architect. A special feature of the fort is its double line of fortification and walls on all sides, their heights varying according to the nature of the ground. The upper fort is built across the northern and western crest of the hill measuring about 180sq.metres. The lower fort is built on the southern and the eastern terrace with walls and strong bastions at corners on projecting spurs. Apart from other monuments, there is on the eastern portion of the lower fort the temple of Bhavani, the family deity of the Bhosales, built by Shivaji. Today a motorable road takes the traveler quite close to the fort.

The most important event connected with Pratapgarh is the Shivaji-Afzal Khan episode. It was the base of this fort that Shivaji, on 10the November 1659, scored a historic victory against the mighty Afzal Khan, commander of the Bijapur Adishahi forces. The episode, in which Afzal Khan was overpowered and killed by Shivaji, is well known. In short, it can be said that in a very critical situation Shivaji showed the presence of mind and Afzal Khan paid the price for his rash overconfidence. Now there exists a grave at the place where Afzal Khan was killed. To commemorate the tricentennary of that historic event, and equestrian statue of Shivaji was installed at the top of the Pratapgarh fort in 1959 AD.

About place
Sparkling blue waters, endless stretches of golden or silver sand, sun beams dancing through the swaying palms, waves playing with the sand dunes, a cool breeze whispering sweet nothing in your ear. This is the land of Ganpatipule, one of Maharashtra's almost virgin beaches."

Nestled in the greenery is an almost 4000 year old land mark - the Swayambhu Ganapati temple (Swayambhu means 'self-made', this is a temple of the self-originated idol, Ganapati). It is flooded by thousands of devotees and tourists every year. Thus the village got its name Ganapatipule, Ganapati the lord of the "ganas" or army and "pule" which means sand dunes, Ganapatipule is one of the "Ashta Ganapatis" (eight Ganapatis) of India and is known as "Paschim Dwar Dewata" (the Western Sentinel God).

Ganapatipule is a small village, serene, sedate and unspoiled. The beach here is still as natural and pristine as ever. And traveling by roads is an experience by itself. The vast "Konkan" stretch abounds with scenic greenery. There are narrow mud-roads, the earth is red and the roofed houses with clean courtyards add a quaint touch to the panorama. The local vegetation includes fruit bearing trees like mango, betelnut, banana, jackfruit, coconut, etc. The entire western coast is covered with these trees. The locals are as warm and cheerful as their surroundings. Ever ready to chat with the visitors and make them feel at home.

These god-fearing local devotees take a "Pradakshina" aro und the hill where the temple is located, not just around the temple (Pradakshina is a form of showing obeisance wherein the devotee walks in a circle around the idol of the lord or around the temple, the house of the lord), As for the tourists, they can go walking simple to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Badami:
Badami, formerly known as Vatapi, is a town and headquarters of a taluk by the same name, in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka, India. It was the regal capital of the Badami Chalukyas from 540 to 757 AD. It is famous for rock cut and other structural temples. It is located in a ravine at the foot of a rugged, red sandstone outcrop that surrounds Agastya Lake.
The name Vatapi has origin in the Vatapi legend of Ramayana relating to Sage Agastya. There were two demon siblings Vatapi and Ilvala. They used to kill all mendicants by tricking them in a peculiar way. The elder Ilvala would turn Vatapi into a ram and would offer its meat to the guest. As soon as the person ate the meat, Ilvala would call out the name of Vatapi. As he had a boon that whomsoever Ilvala calls would return from even the Netherlands, Vatapi would emerge ripping through the body of the person, thus killing him. Their trick worked until Sage Agastya countered them by digesting Vatapi before Ilvala could call for him, thus ending the life of Vatapi at the hands of Ilvala. Two of the hills in Badami represent the demons Vatapi and Ilvala.
It is also believed that name Badami has come from colour of its stone (badam -Almond).

Hubli:
Hubli, also called Hubballi, is a major city in the state of Karnataka of India. The name Hubballi literally means "flowering creeper" in Kannada. The twin cities of Hubli and Dharwad, collectively referred as "Hubli-Dharwad", are the second-largest conurbation in Karnataka after Bangalore. While Dharwad is the administrative headquarters, the city of Hubli, situated about 20 km south-east of Dharwad, is the commercial centre and business hub of North Karnataka. Crops like cotton and peanuts are grown aplenty in the surrounding rural areas, and Hubli is a major trading centre for both commodities. It is also an important city for the Indian Railways, being the headquarters for South Western Railway Zone and the Hubli Railway Division.

Mumbai Musafirs Anniversary Bike Ride to the Ajanta & Ellora. SOLD OUT!!!
With just a little over one week for the Anniversary ride to kick start, you need to be prepared to the fullest:
- The temperature will be really low and coupled with the wind-chill effect experienced while riding, it forms the perfect recipe for your limbs and fingers to go numb from cold. Inner thermal wears are advisable along with a jacket, gloves, balaclava nd appropriate footwear. Avoid wearing sandals/kitos/floaters etc.
- Carry your tyre tubes. This is very essential as you would not want to be stranded in the middle of the night on a ghat searching for the correct sized tyre tube in case of a puncture. Also, remember that tubes for unconventional tyre sizes like the 19 inch (Enfield Tyres) and 17" (Avenger tyres) are not found in rural areas we'd be going through. Please buy the tubes in Mumbai itself and carry them along to avoid inconvenience.
- All your bike indicators should be working as that is what we use for communication within the group.
- Carry spare headlamp and tail lamp bulbs and fuses.
- Get your bike serviced and ready for the ride. Make it a nice experience not only for you but also for your darling bike. Nothing performs as well as a pampered bike.
- Carry water as we MAY not find water until dawn.
- Carry two copies of your bike papers and also carry the spare key for your bike.

These are just the basic very important things that I could recollect. I may have missed out on many other important point. Feel free to add on to the list that would be specific for this ride.

- Nicc

It has been a whole year since the Mumbai Musafirs Journey began. The journey that has given every Musafir new friends to travel, to care, to bond and all while sharing the same passion… The passion to explore the world on motorbikes. A glimpse and few memories of how the last year went riding by… If you’ve been there and done it, u’ll connect with every thing mentioned.

January 2011 – Ajanta Ellora: Freezing cold, fingers numb. Also, a short stretch of time defying riding, while returning back from Ajanta to Aurangabad. Requesting an Enfield spare parts shop to open in the middle of the night, getting served piping hot tea at 12:00 in the night by the mechanic’s family while he was busy fixing the new wheel drum.

February 2011 – Mahabaleshwar Panchgani Wai: On this ride to the land of strawberries, the count shot up from 13 bikes seen on the first ride to 27 bikes. Musafirs giving various angles to the story of Arthur Point, plucking fruits from the field, rushing to see the sunset, the horse cart race and… VADA PAAV. :-P

March 2011 – Saputara, Gujarat: The first inter-state ride. Beautiful roads, staying in tents in the middle of the forest. Camp fire. Towing an FZ for about 20 kms… by tying it to an Enfield. Teaching the dhaba cook how to cook food for the whole group in the shortest time… Amazing experience.

April 2011 – Harihareshwar, Bhankot, Velas: The ride along the coast. Target of reaching the accommodation before the Cricket World Cup final’s toss session. An LCD screen strapped on a bike because we didn’t wanna watch the match on the small 14” TV at the accommodation. India winning the World Cup. Riding on the beach at 12:00 in the nite as a victory march.

May 2011 – Maheshwar, Mandu (Madhya Pradesh): The first night ride and second Interstate ride and our first foreign rider from Finland. Deep fried, plate cut parathas. Full throttle roads. Various species of bikes like The Chihuahua, The LawnMower. People seeing sparks after falling and thinking they’ve reached heaven. Savio’s Roopmati. And Joel translating the guide’s Hindi for Heikki: There was this bugger king long ago who loved this hot chic called Roopmati … blah…blah. Introduction of Reflective Bibs on rides.

June 2011 – Mulshi: The first Monsoon ride… short distance. Greenery all around. Wet to the bone. Extremely relaxing.

July 2011 – Kelwa: The shortest ever Mumbai Musafirs Ride.

August 2011 – Jawahar: The waterfall, mist, off road patches and a mesmerizing experience.

September 2011 – Kaas Plateu, Satara: Again wet till the bone and riding in the fog. Icy cold rain at the chalkewadi wind mill farms. Beautiful accommodation besides the lake and singing ‘Happy B’day to Jejo’ at every second statement during the evening sessions. Fun. Oh and yes… Ansari Cranes, thank you for giving me true friends and showing how close knit is the Mumbai Musafirs family. Thank you Musafirs for being there.

October 2011 – Kashid, Murud Janjira: 8:00 AM Preetam. Bad stretches of road. 6:00 PM Priyanka. God bless every angel. Ferry to the sea fort Janjira. Thanks Sid for the amazing video of the ride. It touched every Musafir.

November 2011 – Bandhardhara: Another short ride. Complete Aaram besides the lake. Tribal dance – special appearance of Andy and Nicc :-P

December 2011 – Ganpatipule: Shacks on the beach. Could hear the waves producing music throughout the nite. Bonfire on the beach. Timepass at both the Jetty ports on the way back. And a tyre tube change in the middle of the night taking 2 hours.

Happy New Year!!!
• Riders should have a valid driving license for motorcycle with gear,
permitted to ride in India along with registration, insurance and PUC
certificate.

• Minimum riding gear is mandatory; it should
consist of a helmet and shoes if you wish to wear more gear you are
welcome to do so.

• The speed limit will be strictly riding with the pack which will not exceed 60kmph.

• Communication should be crisp and clear with least ambiguity. Every
time before we start there will be a briefing as to how the group will
proceed and the details of the stops and destinations etc.

• Be
prepared to ride when the group starts, don’t waste time preparing
(wearing helmet gloves) when the group is ready to ride.

• Stay with the leading pack.

• Do not overtake and come between riders who are riding together
(maintaining constant distance between themselves).

• Whenever you stop, give first priority to the reason for stopping
whether it is taking photos, ordering food, taking a leak, checking the
bike etc... We must ensure that we are ready to ride when everybody is
and the group does not have to wait unnecessarily for any reason.

• Indicate before overtaking.

• Do not park uncomfortably close to another bike making it
uncomfortable for you and the other rider to get back on your
motorcycles and start easily.

• In case you notice something unusual or dangerous do bring it to the notice of the group leader.

• Rules and regulations for the harmony and safety of the individual or
group. However we expect the few that we have, should be
followed very strictly, failing which we may exclude that particular
participant from the rest of the trip.

Intoxication: we do
not tolerate any form of intoxication when on the bike.
Disregard for this will result in immediate expulsion.

Conduct:
participants are expected to conduct themselves in a
manner that preserves their dignity and others around them, including
other participants.
