Today we are Very Happy to Publish the Sri Manachee Sloka by Sri Swami Samartha Ramdas.

Everyone of us would have heard Sri Swami Samartha Ramdas's Poetic Compilation "Shri Manache Shlok" while having darshan in Shirdi or while watching live darshan. This Compilation is played after Dhoop Aarti in the evening is being shared here. The Sri Manachee shlok (hymn) has a total of 205 verses addressed to the mind.

Ramdas was one of the greatest saints of the world. He was the inspirer of Shivaji. He was born of Suryaji Panth and Renuka Bai in Jamb, Maharashtra, in 1608 A.D. His original name was Narain.

Ramdas was a contemporary of Sant Tukaram. He was a great devotee of Hanuman and Lord Rama. He had Darshan of Lord Rama even when he was a boy. Lord Rama Himself initiated him.

Miracle in Shirdi - Baba's Image Appears on Wall at Dwarakamai!

A Miracle occurred in Shirdi on the night of Thursday 05th Jan 2012. Right after Baba's Shej Aarti got over, an image of Sai Baba's face appeared on the wall of Dwarkamai. Very distinctly seen, the face of Sai Baba appeared on the Nimbar (Niche) which is on the western wall of Dwarkamai.

The Shri Sai Satcharitra relates that it was here that Baba used to have his midday meal, sitting behind a curtain with his back to the Nimbar, and a row of devotees on either side of him. This is also the place where Baba would sleep with his head pointing towards the Nimbar. Sai Baba also occasionally did his Namaz (ritual prayers) here. This Nimbar also has a set of lamps placed by Baba in-front of it.

As this news spread, people from all over started rushing to Shirdi to be blessed by this miracle of Baba. And slowly the crowds grew in such numbers that Shirdi Sansthan's Security guards also found it difficult to control them. Chanting the name of Sai Baba, the inside & outside of Dwarkamai was flooded with devotees, all trying to get a glimpse of Baba's Image.

On 31st Dec 2011, Sai Baba's Samadhi Temple, Shirdi was kept open for devotees the whole Night so that all of them who had reached Shirdi for New-years Eve, could have Baba's Darshan. As a result there was no Shej Aarti on 31st Dec 2011 nor was there Baba's Kakad Aarti on 01st Jan 2012. Sai Bhajans were sung live, through out the night by various singers.

And as the Clock Struck Midnight, Bells were Rung continuously while all devotees voiced out "Shri Sachchidananda Sadguru Sainath Maharaj ki Jai!"

Laddu Prasad was sold through out the 31st night for which an extra 2 quintals of Laddu's were specially made and no VIP Darshan Passes were issued on 25th & 31st Dec 2011, 01st & 02nd Jan 2012.

As there was a huge rush of devotees, the Shirdi Sansthan had made arrangements for their stay. Awnings, Beds and Tents were put up in approx 61,000 sr.ft area in the open area of the 'Sainagar' Field, the parking lots of the new 'Bhakt Niwas' & the 'Sai Prasad Bhakt Niwas'.

Apart from these, lodging arrangements were also made for the devotees, in the rooms of the Sansthan's Educational Complex Buildings. In the additional Lodging, next to the new 'Bhakt Niwas' arrangements were made for Prasad Meals for the convenience of the devotees.

On 1st Jan2012 alone a record 4 lakh devotees visited Shirdi for Baba's Darshan and to clear such extra rush of passengers, the Central Railway (CR) ran a "Shraddha Special" between Mumbai and Sainagar Shirdi, on the intervening night of 31st Dec 2011 - 01st Jan 2012.

From 23rd Dec 2011 to 01st Jan 2012, a record donation worth Rs 14 crore 60 lakhs was made at the Shrine. The donations included Rs.11 crore Cash, 1.25 kg Gold and 13.5 kg Silver.

According to the annual report of the Shirdi temple for the year 2010-11, the temple has come to amass a huge fortune with its investment in fixed deposits with banks and government securities exceeding Rs.500 crore mark as of 31st March 2011.

The temple has Fixed Deposits with various nationalised banks worth Rs.466 crore, while it has invested Rs 40.84 crore in Kisan Vikas Patra and Rs.22 crore in Government Bonds aggregating to about Rs.529 crore.

Besides, the Shrine has 300 kgs gold worth approx Rs.28 crore, 3,000 kg silver worth approx Rs.4 crore & in 2011 alone it got Rs 250 crore in donations, apart from some other valuables like precious stones, copper and brass objects.

Pickpocket Caught on CCTV Inside Sai Temple at Shirdi.

Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan has been warning devotees to take care of their personal belongings when in Shirdi. A recorded Message warning devotees to beware of Pickpockets is aired repeatedly over the speakers in the Temple premises. Also, Message Boards Warning the same, have been placed inside & outside the Darshan waiting halls where devotees queue up.

To avoid Pickpocketing & other such untoward incidents, the Sansthan Trust has beefed up security at the Sai Temple by installing CCTV's all around the Temple Premises and a new Biometric Facial Recognition technique which can locate and alert the temple staff of the presence of thieves, pickpockets and even terrorists.

This new system will enable the uploading of pictures of such habitual offenders into the system
and whenever they come within the ambit of CCTV cameras, authorities will be alerted automatically. The Shirdi Sansthan is also in constant touch with the Shirdi Police in-order to nab such offenders who take advantage of the huge crowds standing in Queues for Darshan at the Sai Temple.

Thus, on Tuesday 11th Oct`2011, a Pickpocket was caught red handed at Shirdi's Sai Baba Temple. His entire act of Pick-pocketing inside the very Sanctum Sanctorum of the Shrine, just besides Baba's Samadhi was captured by the CCTV Cameras installed. As a result he was caught and handed over to the Shirdi Police Station where a case has been registered against him.

His Modus Operandi:

Uses a child along to push forward through the crowds as if in a hurry for Baba's Darshan while smoothly pick pockets along. After Darshan he would again be back in the Darshan Queue for the same obvious reasons. He was caught with Rs.11,000/- in cash.

But due to absence of Stict-n-Stern laws, such offenders are out of prison soon and back to their work again !

Dashavatara

Dashavatara refers to the ten principal Avatars. In Vaishnava philosophy, an Avatar (Sanskrit: अवतार, avatāra), most commonly refers to the 'descent' and daśa refers to 'ten' in number. The ten most famous incarnations of Vishnu or sometimes Krishna are collectively known as the Dashavatara. This list is included in the Garuda Purana (1.86.10-11) and denotes those avatars most prominent in terms of their influence on human society.

The majority of avatars in this list of ten are categorised as 'lila-avatars'. The first four are said to have appeared in the Satya Yuga (the first of the four Yugas or ages in the time cycle described within Hinduism). The next three avatars appeared in the Treta Yuga, the eighth incarnation in the Dwapara Yuga and the ninth in the Kali Yuga. The tenth is predicted to appear at the end of the Kali Yuga in some 427,000 years time. Also according to the Vishnu Purana and Bhagavata Purana, the Kali-yuga will end with the apparition of Kalki-avatara, who will defeat the wicked, liberate the virtuous, and initiate a new Satya Yuga.

At that time, the Supreme Personality of Godhead will appear on the earth. Acting with the power of pure spiritual goodness, He will rescue eternal religion. Lord Viṣṇu — the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the spiritual master of all moving and nonmoving living beings, and the Supreme Soul of all — takes birth to protect the principles of religion and to relieve His saintly devotees from the reactions of material work. (Bhagavata Purana, 12.2.16-17)

Matsya, the fish, appeared in the Satya Yuga.The Fish Incarnation is the first incarnation of Vishnu. Lord Vishnu takes the form of a fish to take a king to the new world along with one of every single species of plants and animals from the world's largest cyclone. What we live in now is the new world, where the Lord traveled, carrying everything from the old, destroyed world.

Kurma, the tortoise, appeared in the Satya Yuga. The turtle Incarnation is the second incarnation of Vishnu. When the devas and asuras were churning the ocean in order to get the nectar of immortality, the mount Mandara they were using as the churning staff started to sink and Lord Vishnu took the form of a turtle to bear the weight of the mountain.

Varaha, the boar, appeared in the Satya Yuga. The Boar incarnation is the third incarnation of Vishnu. He appeared in order to defeat Hiranyaksha, a demon who had taken the Earth (Prithvi) and carried it to the bottom of what is described as the cosmic ocean in the story. The battle between Varaha and Hiranyaksha is believed to have lasted for a thousand years, which the former finally won. Varaha carried the Earth out of the ocean between his tusks and restored it to its place in the universe.

Narasimha, the half-man/half-lion appeared in the Satya Yuga. The Man-Lion Incarnation is the fourth incarnation of Vishnu. When the demon Hiranyakashipu acquired a boon from Brahma, which gave him inordinate power, Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of half-man/half-lion, having a human-like torso and a lower body, but with a lion-like face and claws. Hiranyakashipu could not be killed by human, deva or animal, Narasimha is neither one of these, as he is a form of Vishnu incarnate as a part-human, part animal. He comes upon Hiranyakashipu at twilight (when it is neither day nor night) on the threshold of a courtyard (neither indoors nor out), and puts the demon on his thighs (neither earth nor space). Using his sharp nails (neither animate nor inanimate) as weapons, he disembowels and kills the demon.

Vamana, the dwarf, appeared in the Treta Yuga. The fourth lineal descendant of Hiranyakashyap, named Bali, through his devotion and penance defeated Indra, the god of firmament, humbled other gods and extended his authority over the three worlds. All the gods appealed to Lord Vishnu for protection and He became manifest in His Dwarf Avatar of Vaman for the purpose of restraining Bali. Once when this king was making a great religious offering, Lord Vishnu in the form of Vaman appeared before him in the company of other Brahmins. Bali was extremely pleased to see a holy man with such a diminutive form and promised to give him whatever he should ask. Lord Vishnu asked only for as much land as he could measure by three steps. Bali laughingly agreed to grant the boon of three steps. Lord Vishnu as dwarf stepped over heaven in first stride and earth in the second stride. Then he asked Bali where can he put his third step . Bali realized that Vamana was Vishnu incarnate and his pride was broken. He offered Vamana to put his third step on his head. Vamana did so and thus blessed Bali marking him as one of the few immortals blessed by Vishnu. Then out of respect to Bali's kindness and his grandfather Prahlad's great virtues, he made him the ruler of pathala, the subterranean region. Bali is believed to have ruled Kerala and Tulunadu. He is still revered there as the king of prosperity and remembered and called on before the harvesting season.

Parashurama, Rama with the axe, appeared in the Treta Yuga. Parashurama a Brahmin, the sixth avatar of Vishnu, belongs to the Treta yuga, and is the son of Jamadagni and Renuka. Parashu means axe, hence his name literally means Rama-of-the-axe. He received an axe after undertaking a terrible penance to please Shiva, from whom he learned the methods of warfare and other skills. Parashurama is said to be a "Brahma-Kshatriya" (with the duties between a Brahmana and a Kshatriya), the first warrior saint. His mother is descended from the Kshatriya Suryavanshi clan that ruled Ayodhya and Lord Rama also belonged to. A haihaya King Kartavirya Arjuna (Sahasrarjuna - purportedly with a thousand arms) and his army visited Jamadagni, a Brahmin sage, who fed his guest and the whole army with his divine cow Kamadhenu. The king demanded the magical cow. Jamadagni refused because he needed the cow for his religious ceremonies. King Kartavirya Arjuna (Sahasrarjuna) took the cow forcibly and devastated the ashram. Angered at this, Parashurama killed the king's entire army and, after cutting each one of his thousand arms, the king himself with his axe. As a revenge, the King's sons killed Jamadagni in Parashurama's absence. Furious at his father's murder, Parashurama killed all sons of Sahasrajuna and their aides. His thirst for revenge unquenched, he went on killing every adult Kshatriya on earth, not once but 21 times, filling five ponds with blood. These are the actions which highlight his warrior characteristics. Ultimately, his grandfather, Richeek Rishi, appeared and stopped him.

Rama, Ramachandra, the prince and king of Ayodhya, appeared in the Treta Yuga. Rama is one of the most commonly adored gods in Hinduism and is known as an ideal man and hero of the epic Ramayana. Rama defeated and killed the king of Sri Lanka, Ravana for capturing and imprisoning his wife Sita in the Ashoka Garden in Sri Lanka.

Krishna (meaning 'dark coloured' or 'all attractive') appeared in the Dwapara Yuga along with his brother Balarama. According to the Bhagavata Purana, Balarama is said to have appeared in the Dwapara Yuga (along with Krishna) as an incarnation of Ananta Shesha. Krishna is one of the most commonly worshipped deities in the Hindu faith and is also counted as an avatar of Vishnu by the majority of Vaishnava movements.

As per the North Indian belief, Krishna is the eighth avatar, while as per south Indian belief, Balarama is considered as the eight avatar and Krishna as the ninth. He is also a significant character in the epic of Mahabharata. Krishna delivered Bhagwad Gita on battlefield of the Battle of Kurukshetra to Arjuna. He, like Rama, is also known for his bravery in destroying evil powers throughout his life. He is usually depicted as playing the flute (murali), indicating spread of the melody of love to people.

Buddha: With the departure of Krishna, Kali Yuga sets in, in this age, the true devotion to Vedas was replaced by empty rituals. To enlighten the world in such times, Vishnu descended the earth as Buddha, the enlightened one.

Kalki ("Eternity", or "time", or "The Destroyer of foulness"), who is expected to appear at the end of Kali Yuga, the time period in which we currently live. The tenth and the last avatar of Vishnu, Kalki, is yet to appear. Kalki will appear at the end of the Kalyuga. This avatar will appear seated on a white horse with a drawn sword blazing like a comet. There is nowhere where He is not. Just as one thread penetrates all the flowers in a garland, so also, one Self penetrates all these living beings. He is hidden in all beings and forms, like oil in seed, butter in milk, mind in brain, Prana in the body, fetus in the womb, sun behind the clouds, fire in wood, vapor in the atmosphere, salt in water, scent in flowers, sound in the gramophone records, gold in quartz, microbes in blood.

The vast ocean with its powerful waves, the mighty Himalayas with its glaciers, the bright sun and stars in the wide sky, the lofty tree with its branches, the cool springs in the hills and dales, tell you of His omnipotence. The music of the sweet singers, the lectures of the Powerful orators, the poems of the reputed poets, the inventions of the able scientists, the operations of the dexterous surgeons, the utterances of the holy saints, the thoughts of the Shri Bhagwad Gita, the revelations of the Upanishads, speak of God and His wisdom.

Everything is God. Good is God. Misfortune is God. Greet Him in everything and rest peacefully in bliss. God pervades the entire universe. He walks in the garb of a beggar. He moans in pain in the guise of the sick. He wanders in the forest clad in rags. Open your eyes. See Him in all. Serve all. Love all.

Feel the Divine Presence everywhere in every form, in every thought, in every feeling and in every sentiment, in every movement, in every emotion.

God, seen through the senses, is matter. God, seen through the intellect, is mind. God, seen through the spirit, is Atman or the Self.

Thou art indwelt by the Lord. He is the inner ruler, Antaryamin, guarding and controlling your life. He is in you and you are in Him. He is quite close to you. He is not very far, but is nearer to you than you are to yourself. You were thinking in the beginning that He could be found only in Mount Kailash , Ramesvaram, Mecca , Jerusalem , sky or heaven. You had very vague ideas. This body is His moving temple. The sanctum sanctorum is the chamber of your own heart. Close your eyes. Withdraw your Indriyas from the sensual objects. Search Him in thy heart with one-pointed mind, devotion, and pure love. You will surely find Him. He is waiting there with outstretched arms to embrace you. If you cannot find Him there, you cannot find Him anywhere else.

Legal Action Over Shirdi Sai Baba's 9 Silver Coins

Late Smt.Laxmibai Shinde had, during her entire lifetime,
served Shri Shirdi Sai Baba with utmost devotion and care. She used to feed Baba everyday.
On 15th October 1918, a few moments before attaining Samadhi, Sai Baba gave Laxmi Ma, 9 Silver Coins as Prasad,
in appreciation of her devotion towards him.

The Nine Coins signify the 9-fold path of devotion:
1. Sharvana (Listening)
2. Kirtana (Devotional Music)
3. Smarana (Remembrance)
4. Pada Seva (Resorting to Guru's Feet)
5. Archanan (Worship)
6. Namaskara (Making Obeisance)
7. Dastya (Service)
8. Sahnyatva (Friendliness)
9. Atmanivedana (Surrender of the Self)

Smt. Laxmibai Shinde had Two Sons:
1) Shri.Nana Tukaram Patil Shinde married to Smt.Sonubai
and whose Daughter is Smt.Shailaja Maa.

2) Shri.Tatya Tukaram Patil Shinde whose
great Grandson is Shri.Chandrakant Bapusaheb Shinde

And today, Laxmibai's Grand-Daughter Smt.Shailaja Maa and Laxmibai's Great Grandson Shri.Chandrakant Bapusaheb Shinde are at loggerheads with each other.

Each Claim to have the possession of the Original 9 Silver Coins given by Sai Baba to Laxmibai. Thus, these 9 Silver Coins given by Baba to Laxmibai 93 years back, have become 18 Silver Coins !!!

According to the daughter of Shri.Nana Tukaram Patil Shinde & Sonubai, Shailaja Maa,
in 1963, at the time of her Grand Mother Laxmibai Shinde's demise, Laxmibai had handed over these blessed 9 Silver Coins to her mother Sonubai, who then later handed them over to her.

And from 1918 to 1990, these Coins were in a wooden frame and in 1990 they were fixed in a Silver frame.

Shailaja Maa said that she has kept these 9 Silver Coins at her House ever since and were open for Darshan for all Sai Devotees.

Her son Shri.Arun Gaikwad has also traveled to various places with these 9 Silver Coins so that all Sai Devotees could have their darshan.

On the other hand, according to the Great Grandson of Laxmibai Shinde, Shri.Chandrakant Bapusaheb Shinde, his Great Grand Mother Smt.Laxmibai had given the Original 9 Silver Coins to her son Shri.Tatya Tukaram Patil Shinde, who then passed it on to his son Shri.Bhaskar Nana Patil Shinde who in-turn handed it down to his son Shri.Bapusaheb Bhaskar Rao Shinde and from whom finally he inherited these 9 Silver Coins.

Shri.Chandrakant Bapusaheb Shinde said that he has kept these 9 Silver Coins in a wooden frame next to Laxmibai Shinde's Idol at Laxmibai Shinde's ancestral House itself, where he too has been staying for the past so many years.

Many Sai devotees who visit Shirdi, also have Darshan of these 9 Blessed Silver Coins in Laxmibai's house.

So while both Claim to be in possession of the Original 9 Silver Coins given by Baba to Laxmi Ma, a huge controversy is brewing n Shirdi as to who has the actual possession of Baba's ORIGINAL 9 Silver Coins.

As according to both their claims, now there a total of 18 Silver Coins
instead of only 9 Coins originally given by Baba to Laxmibai.

Claiming that she is in possession of the Original 9 Silver Coins of Baba, Shailaja Maa Gaikwad said that Shri.Chandrakant Shinde had got fake Duplicate Coins from the Market and by claiming that they were the Original 9 Silver Coins given by Baba to Laxmi Ma, he was was cheating innocent Sai devotees.

She added that Shri.Chandrakant Shinde came out with these 9 Silver Coins only in 1986, whereas she has had them in her house for Darshan since 1963.

Shri. Arun Gaikwad, son of Shailaja Maa said that in 1980 due to family feud with his Uncle, he with his Grand Mother Sonubai and Mother Shailja Maa left Shirdi with the Original 9 Silver Coins given by Baba to Laxmibai.

They stayed in Kopergaon, only to return back to Shirdi in 1996 when they learnt that their Uncle's son Shri.Chandrakant Shinde was fooling Sai Devotees by claiming that he had the Original 9 Silver Coins given to Laxmibai by Sai Baba.

Thus, taking strict legal action against such malpractices the Hon.Managing Trustee of 'Saibhakta Laxmibai Shinde Trust`Shirdi' Smt.Shailaja Maa has registered a complaint at the Shirdi Police Station.

According to the Police Inspector both the Set of 9 Silver Coins will be taken in and send to the concerned department for testing, to ascertain which is actually the original set of 9 Coins given by Baba to Laxmibai.

Meanwhile, the Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan is silent on this whole issue as it prefers to stay away from any such controversies.

WHAT IS PITHRU PAKSHA ?

The annual ancestor-worship or 'Pitri-Paksha' is a period that is observed during the dark half of the Hindu month of 'Ashwin.' This period of 15 days is set aside by the Hindus for the remembrance of their ancestors. During this fortnight, Hindus donate food to the hungry in the hope that their ancestors will also be thus fed.

It is this time that Hindus throughout the world reflect on the contributions their forefathers made to their present life, and the cultural norms, traditions and values they set for us in order to make our lives better.

Three Debts an Individual is Born with

According to the Vedic scriptures an individual is born with three debts. The debt to God is called ‘Dev-rin.’ The debt to the sages and saints is called ‘Rishi-rin.’ The third debt to one's parents and ancestors is called ‘Pitri-rin.’ These three debts are like three mortgages on one's life, but not liabilities. It is an attempt by Hindu scriptures to create an awareness of one's duties and responsibilities.

"Pitri-rin" - Debt to One's Parents & Ancestors

The third debt an individual is expected to pay during one's life is to one's parents and ancestors. One's entire existence, including the family name and the great dharma one belongs to, are the gifts of one's parents and the forefathers. Just as your parents, who brought you into this world, protected you when you were weak and frail, fed you, clothed you, taught you, and brought to you up, your grandparents performed similar duties for your parents.

How to Repay the Debt to Ancentors

So how is this debt repaid? Everything that one does in this world should enhance the fame and glory of one's family, and of one's forefathers. Your ancestors are anxious to help you in all your endeavors and the departed souls are capable of doing so. However, they have one expectation from all of us and that is to perform acts of charity in their names during their annual visits to your homes in their subtle, invisible bodies.

A Pure Act of Faith

You do not have to believe in this unique Hindu ritual because it is purely based on faith called 'shraddha' in Hindi. Hence, another name for annual ancestor worship is 'Shraadh,' derived from the word 'shraddha' or faith. However, you will agree that it is the responsibility of everyone to keep up the pride of the family lineage by performing actions that promote the good of all. The fortnight of ancestor worship is nothing but a reminder of your lineage and duties towards it.

This Sai Nakshatra Malika was written by Sri Ponamala Koteswara Rao of Vijayawada and sung by Sri M Mangayya of Eluru in Andhra Pradesh. Sai Nakshatra Malika Poem Consists of a 27 Stanza/Verses praising Sri Sai Baba & the Complete Parayan of Sai Satcharitra book has been written in these 27 Stanza.

It is beleived that chanting Sai Nakshatra Malika once gives the Same benefit of performing Sai Satcharita Saptah. Later on Sai Baba's Sai Nakshatra Malika is chanted 9 times by all Present for the Puja & During each chanting Tambulam consisting of 2 Banana/Fruit, Betelnut Leaf, Betelnut & a Coconut is placed in front of Sai Baba & at the end of each chanting Aarti is performed to Sai Baba. The Bhubaneswar-Manmad-Bhubaneswar weekly special train which had been earlier extended to run upto Shirdi, due to some operational constraints, will now run up to Manmad only. But in view of passenger's rush the East Coast Railway (ECR) has decided to extend services of this special via Visakhapatnam, Secunderabad and Nizamabad up to December 2011 end.

As per the revised programme, the train will halt at Manmad itself and not touch Kopergaon, Puntamba and Sai Nagar, Shirdi stations. The timings and stoppages of the train between Bhubaneswar and Manmad remain unchanged.

MPCB TO SHIRDI SAI TRUST: "INSTALL EXHAUST FANS IN TEMPLE PREMISES !"

Frequent Incidents of Devotees complaining of dizziness and vomiting during their visit to the Sai Baba Temple at Shirdi, has prompted the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to ask the Shree Sai Baba Sansthan Trust to immediately install Exhaust Fans in the Temple premises.

In a letter, the MPCB has also asked the Shirdi Trust to file a Compliance Report after taking the necessary action.

The number of devotees visiting the Sai Baba Temple has increased in the recent past.
However, the facilities provided to them are found to be inadequate. The main religious festivals celebrated at the temple are Ramnavami, Guru Pournima and Dasara
when 3-5 lakh devotees visit the temple.

The human soul, even though initiated in the spiritual path, cannot love an abstract power; and it is for this reason that the scriptures advise us to venerate those who lead us to God and to love their physical presence as the Divine manifesting itself in human form. The Guru's physical body is just a receptacle of the mighty Divine, and as such worthy of the utmost devotion and reverence.

God as the abstract Creator eludes our imagination, but when a human temple enshrines divinity we begin to understand through this familiar medium the purpose of our own ultimate destiny. Thus, when God assumes a human form, He establishes Himself as the Guru. Guru is manifested God- this is perhaps the most succinct and satisfying definition of the word, and eliminates the false claims of some so-called Gurus who are ready to assume the mantle of spiritual authority without the true manifestation of the divine principle.

The Guru as manifested God soon becomes the Light, the inspiration and the great exemplar. The life of the average seeker, as it is lived on the material and physical level, is barren and unproductive until it finds its focus in the Master. It requires the grace, protection and the powerful push of the Guru to release this imprisoned splendor which lies captive in each and every one of us.

The Guru and God are one because the Almighty and His medium of manifestation cannot be different. The Guru embodies not only the Saguna (characteristics) but also the Nirguna(quality) of the Supreme Being, and so to that extent the Guru is approachable and accessible to man's needs and comprehension.

Once a contact between the Guru and the bhakta(disciple) is established, the relationship between master and disciple becomes a thing of beauty. This leads us to consider the principle of reciprocity which operates in this relationship. In return for the innumerable demands which a bhakta makes on the Master, it is but natural that the Guru too should impose a few conditions on the bhakta. The Guru expects total surrender, absolute obedience ,and, the last and most important, supreme effort.

The Guru's mission appears to be two-fold. The first and most important concern of the Guru is to awaken, elevate and transform the seeker. The second and final purpose of the Guru is paradoxically to help the disciple seeker to transcend this state of complete dependence on the Master, which dependence the Guru himself had taken such pains to foster. The final spurt of realizing his true identity with God is exclusively the Seeker's job.

The saint of Shirdi recognized and emphasized the beauty of a Guru-guided life. Shri Sai Baba of Shirdi is the Guru incarnate to live on this earth in the late part of last century and early part of this century. Shri Sai Baba gave tremendous importance to the adoption of the Guru in one's spiritual "Sadhana"(pursuit). With an innate compassion Shri Sai Baba often declared -"I am your savior, not only from the weight of sin, but from the weight of care and misery". "Guru is all the Gods", said the Saint of Shirdi. Moreover, the Baba declared reassuringly though as the all pervading Guru he would naturally expect complete surrender, obedience and loyalty, he promised that through his supreme powers he would extend complete protection to those who put their implicit faith in him.

Is Surrender to the Guru the only Sadhana Prayer? This question was hotly debated even in the presence of Baba. The answer to this complex question as given by Shri Sai Baba comes straight out of Sri Sai Satcharita.

Kakasaheb Dixit(an ardent Devotee of Shri Sai Baba) has published his notes regarding this matter. Next day after Hemadpant's meeting with Sai Baba, Kakasaheb went to Baba and asked whether he should leave Shirdi. Baba Said, "Yes". Then someone asked - "Baba, where to go?" Baba said, "High up." Then the man said, "How is the way?" Baba said, "There are many ways leading there; there is one way also from here (Shirdi). The way is difficult. There are tigers and wolves in the jungles on the way." I (Kakasaheb) asked - "But Baba, what if we take a guide with us?" Baba answered, - "Then there is no difficulty. The guide will take you straight to your destination, avoiding wolves, tigers and ditches etc. on the way. If there be no guide, there is the danger of your being lost in the jungles or falling into ditches."

Mr. Dabholkar was present on this occasion and he thought that this was the answer Baba gave to the question whether Guru was a necessity (Vide Sai Leela Vol. I, No.5, Page 47); and he thereupon took the hint that no discussion of the problem, whether man is free or bound, is of any use in spiritual matters, but that on the contrary real Paramartha(absolute meaning) is possible only as the result of the teachings of the Guru, as is illustrated in this chapter of the original work in the instances of great Avatars like Rama and Krishna, who had to submit themselves to their Gurus, Vasishtha and Sandipani respectively, for getting self-realization and that the only virtues necessary for such progress are faith and patience. (Vide Sai Satcharita, Ch. II, 191-92).

Sai Baba Our Guru: Not only did the Saint of Shirdi perform his duties of Guruship during his life, but was able to establish a lasting Guru-parampara(successors of Guru's) through his vision and foresight.

Shri Sai Baba was not content to transfer his messiahship to his descendants. In the last years of his life, he said to his devotees with a mother's solicitude, "Do not grieve when my body passes away. My tomb will live and move and speak with all those who make me their sole refuge." Happily, though we have celebrated over 78 years of his mahasamadhi, Sai Baba's promise is abundantly fulfilled even to-day. Millions of devotees flock to his Samadhi regularly to seek his blessings. Through decades of void there comes echoing down the years the gracious message- "Lo, I am beside you always".

The Poornima (Full Moon) Day in the month of Ashadha(July-August) is known as Guru Poornima. This is a very sacred day on which special worship is performed to the Acharyas(Gurus), who, through their Infinite Compassion and Supreme Grace, have imparted the Knowledge of the Absolute(Brahma Vidya) through a long and continuous line of Acharyas(Guru Parampara) to all the Seekers of the Self.

The celebration of Guru Poornima began in Shirdi around 1908. One day Shri Baba told his disciple Shri Dada Kelkar, "Do you know this day is the day to approach Gurus? Bring your worship articles". Then Shri Kelkar and his friends looked up the calendar and found that the day was Guru Poornima day. They started worshipping Shri Sai Baba as their Guru, and that practice has continued till today not only in Shirdi but all over the world where prayers are offered to Shri Sai.

I request to all Sai devotees to attend a bhajan or visit a Sai temple on the day of Guru poornima (July 15). If this is not possible then chant HIS name/sloka thorugh out the day. Lets remember our God whole day long on this special day.

Horse & the Pig!

Aum Sai Ram.

There was a farmer who collected horses; he only needed one more breed to complete his collection. One day, he found out that his neighbour had the particular horse breed he needed. So, he constantly bothered his neighbour until he sold it to him. A month later, the horse became ill and he called the veterinarian, who said: Well, your horse has a virus. He must take this medicine for three days. I'll come back on the 3rd day and if he's not better, we're going to have to put him down.

Nearby, the pig listened closely to their conversation.The next day, they gave him the medicine and left.The pig approached the horse and said: Be strong, my friend. Get up or else they're going to put you to sleep!

On the second day, they gave him the medicine and left.The pig came back and said: Come on buddy, get up or else you're going to die! Come on, I'll help you get up. Let's go! One, two, three...

On the third day, they came to give him the medicine and the vet said:Unfortunately, we're going to have to put him down tomorrow.Otherwise, the virus might spread and infect the other horses.After they left, the pig approached the horse and said: Listen pal,it's now or never! Get up, come on! Have courage! Come on! Get up! Getup! That's it, slowly! Great! Come on, one, two, three... Good, good.

Now faster, come on.... Fantastic! Run, run more! Yes! Yay! Yes!
You did it, you're a champion!!!All of a sudden, the owner came back, saw the horse running in the field and began shouting: It's a miracle!

My horse is cured. This deserves a party. Let's kill the pig!

Point for reflection:

This often happens in the workplace. Nobody truly knows which employee actually deserves the merit of success, or who's actually contributing the necessary support to make things happen.
