Going Crazy

For some reason, I tend to witness very strange things here in Utah.

1.) Last year, while walking to class, I saw a clown walking through campus with two llamas. No one around me seemed at all bewildered, and most didn't even seem to notice. And yet, I stopped walking completely, gawked my head at a slightly tilted angle, and laughed very loudly. Then, people actually looked at me funny, as if I was more strange than the gang of circus freaks parading through campus!

2.) Today, I saw a penguin on the I-15 freeway. I know it sounds like a scene out of Billy Madison, but I really saw it. I even turned around and drove by it a second time. If it didn't appear to be dead (or in a very peaceful sleep, as I like to hope) I would have captured it and kept it as a pet inside my freezer.

It looked exactly like this one, only less lively.

Which brings me to the question, why would a penguin be in Utah? And on the freeway nonetheless? I think it escaped from the Hogle Zoo (I saw a bunch of these little cuties there merely weeks ago). It must have waddled its way down to the freeway, hoping to hitch a ride back to the North Pole. So sad, so strange. Poor little penguin. I hope you weren't a stuffed animal, or I will feel really stupid.

I love the Thanksgiving season for so many reasons.... pumpkin pie, going home to see my family, the craziest shopping day of the year, and it officially signifies the start of the Christmas season. I guess most of all, it makes me reflect on all the wonderful things I have to be thankful for. So, I thought I would compile a list of some of the things I am especially grateful for this year.

1.) Family and Friends (i love you all)

2.) Sushi

3.) My BF (seriously the sweetest guy on earth)

4.) Being young and alive!

5.) Thrift Stores (where else can you get a sweet red vintage bag and blue blazer for 10 dollars?)

6.) Day-after-thanksgiving sales

7.) Trees (they help us breathe, they are pretty, and without them we would have nothing to decorate at Christmas)

Project Runway Finale!

Last night was the finale of Project Runway - Season 6. I got worried when I turned the t.v. on to discover that the cable was out... again. But not to worry, I got it working in just a few minutes, and I didn't miss much.

I don't necessarily disagree with the judges picking Irina as the winner. I do think, over the entire season, she was the most talented designer, however, I thought she was a bit selfish and arrogant, and I don't think any of the other contestants would disagree (Logan nicknamed her "Mean-a Irina"). I guess the fashion industry isn't too concerned about how "nice" people are, as long as they can make you look good. I certainly hope being snobby and inconsiderate aren't qualifications I need to put on my resume to get a job in the undustry.... ahhh!

Anyways, I can't wait until January.... season 7!!!!

New Moon!

The day has finally come: New Moon comes out in theaters tonight at midnight! Sadly, I won't be able to go, but I will definitely see it before the weekend is over. I must admit I have a little bit of a crush on Robert Pattinson. I am not usually one to obsess over celebrities, but come on..... you must admit he is pretty dreamy!

Shabby Apple Finalist

Let me tell you a little story. When I was a young girl, I was playing on the swing set at recess, when I noticed that a ladybug had landed in my hair. Later that day, something amazing happened. I don't remember exactly what (I think I got a new Beanie Baby, and at the time... that was a big deal), but from that day on I was thoroughly convinced that ladybugs brought good luck.

So, this week, I encountered two ladybugs. I found one on my pants, and the other crawling on the lamp right above me. I knew I was bound to have a lucky week, and I guess it came true...

Playing in the Leaves

It was a lovely autumn day today, and on my walk home from school I decided to take the long route through some neighborhood streets I don't usually pass. I picked up some orange leaves that I found particularly beautiful, and marveled at how lovely this little world can be. Sometimes, I get so caught up in exams,and responsibilities, and trying to figure out where my life is going that I forget to take a breath and enjoy the moment. Today, I did just that. I took the long way home, and I rediscovered the beauty of just living.

Shabby Apple Design Contest

Shabby Apple Dresses is holding a design competition for a modest spring collection dress, so I decided to enter a few of my sketches.

The Tulip Dress.

Description: I envision this in an earthy green shade of

olive, possibly in a silk/cotton blend fabric. The skirt was inspired by the spring tulip blossoms, and is all about the draped side seams. The sleeves have an over-emphasized shoulder.

The Yellow Bell Dress.

Description: I love mustard yellow, and I love A-symetrical neck lines. So I decided to pair the two, with some off-set vintage buttons, and a twist on the classic collar. The skirt has 4 flattering pleats, pointing slightly out towards the sides, and creating a slight bell shape.

Spooky Couture

The October issue of Harper's Bazaar featured this fashion spread, full of fabulously dark and twisted Halloween inspired looks. I love every little bit of it, but best of all, it was envisioned by film director Tim Burton! He is a true artist and I think he's brilliant!

One week left until Halloween! I hope everyone has their costumes picked out. Mine is currently just a pile of fabric and feathers, but hopefully I can pull something together fast.

Travels

I know these are very long overdue, but I finally found these pictures from my latest trip to Scotland. It was such a fast trip (4 days to be exact) so I really didn't have time to sight see, or take very many pictures. Nevertheless, it was still wonderful as always! I feel so blessed to have these opportunities and experiences.

Early morning walks are not the best time for pictures, but I loved this mossy wall so much I couldn't resist.

Not the greatest Monday ever

Reasons this week is starting out all wrong...

1.) Kitty decided to pee in my brown leather purse today. I asked her, "why, of all places, would you decide my purse is the best place for you to go?" She didn't respond.... too ashamed for words I guess. Now it smells, and I can't wash it. Looks like it's goodbye purse.

2.) I studied all weekend for a big test, and still did very very bad on it.

3.) I found out that Mckay is going to be gone an additional 2 weeks, which means that I get to see him a whopping 2 weeks out of the next 3 months. Yuck yuck yuck.

However, on a much brighter side, this day wasn't a complete failure! I discovered that a pair of adorable black ankle boots went on sale at Urban Outfitters. Now normally I wouldn't do this, but since my day was so crummy my self restraint went right out the window, and a few clicks later they were mine! haHAH finally something went well for me today.

Fall has.... Fallen?

So I prefer to use the word "autumn" to describe this lovely time of year. I think its a more beautiful word that better captures the essence of the season. And though my last post expressed some remorse over the end of summer, I do indeed LOVE the transition period from summer to winter. I love it so much, in fact, that my beautiful roomie Dani and I decided to go for a little afternoon drive up the Provo Canyon. We stopped to take some photos along the way.

Reasons I love Autumn...

2.) the return of scarves and boots (ok, lets face, i pretty much wore these all summer too)

3.) the sense of magic and mystery in the air, like suddenly the world turns into a fairy tale

Nooooo! Where does the time go, September went by way too fast. I celebrated my bittersweet weekend with Mckay, since it was the last time I could see him for the next 5 weeks. We decided to take Coco (named after Coco Chanel) to the park and enjoy our last weekend of summer weather. We were hoping for some wind so we could fly a kite, but no such luck. Too bad he didn't stay a couple more days to see the dreary, windy, rainy, 40 degree weather we are having today. Goodbye sweet summer, looks like this is the beginning of the end.... yuck.

I have been begging Mckay to take me to the zoo for months now, and since we finally had a weekend home in Provo my dream came true last Saturday. I was like a kid in a candy shop, running around from animal to animal, until the park gates were closing and I was forced to say goodbye.

So, Mckay (being the captain of impulse buying) decided to adopt her. She was a rescue animal from the humane society, and with a face like that, how could anyone say no?

It didn't take long for her to find Sebastian the fish. She already tried to reach in the bowl and grab dinner. no no no little kitty

This weekend I saw the Yeah Yeah Yeah's play in Salt Lake, and they were Amazing with a capitol "A". Karen O is my idol; quirky, gorgeous, slightly insane I think, and so so so talented. Unfortunately, Mckay broke my camera the night before. I am pretty sure he sat on it, although he still won't admit it. So unfortunately, I couldnt get any good pics. I guess these will have to do.

If anyone hasn't bought the new album "It's Blitz", I would highly recommend it. It's fabulous!

Babies of the 80's

Since I was born in 1988 I thought I would pay tribute to the wonderful, and bizarre decade. I think we can all agree that the 80’s was the birth era of some pretty hideous fashion trends (ummmm neon thong leotards?) but it also started a few trends that I think are quite brilliant. Ruffles, shoulder pads, acid wash jeans, and high waisted pants… I love them all! So I pulled out some 80's inspired pieces from my closet for a little trip back to my roots.

Meet Ike

This is my bike, and yes I named him Ike (not very originial is it?) I purchased him at the Orange County Swap Meet for $30 dollars. He is a lovely sea foam green color, has a white basket, and makes troubling creeking noises approximately every 1.3 tire rotations. I went to Laguna Beach a few weeks back, where my bike has been chained to a wall for the last 8 months. Luckily, it was still there, a bit dusty, and a bit rusted... but I managed to smash open the lock, and bring him back to Provo!

I couldn't be more thrilled to have a bicycle again. I love riding my bike around town, exploring, people watching, and filling my basket with all sorts of silly things I find along the way. This week I plan to do some good, quality riding. I just hope Ike doesn't fall apart.

Mckay is great. He plays around with me on all my frivolous photo taking adventures.

Olsen Obsession

I am kind of in love with the Olsen twins lately. Their style is incredible, and the perfect combination of grunge, rock, and boho. Yet, it baffles me how they are able to keep their fashion looking chic and feminine. I posted some of my favorite looks. I guess when you are 90 pounds, 5 feet tall, and look like a mischievous, pretty little elf... you look good in anything.

My family came into town to stay with me for the 4th of July celebrations. We had a great day full of old-fashion, patriotic festivities, and an abundance of red, white and blue. America turns 233 today, so happy birthday you big great nation!

People camped out over night just to have a spot for this parade.

My mom and I searched through booths of hippie handcrafts.

I wore a special red, white and blue outfit. Cheesy.....yes, but patriotic!

My two nephews C.J. and Trace. They are adorable and I love them!

I think this is the fire truck that woke me up at 8:00 am as the parade passed by the window.

Searching for treasures at the vintage flee market. I found a fabulous $10 dollar blazer, complete with shoulder pads...... yessss! what a great day.

The pictures really don't do it justice.

Peacocks roamed the grounds freely....and even tried to steel leftovers off the table next to us. I just love peacocks.

Its official, La Caille is definitely my favorite restaurant in Utah. It is a quaint and elegant French style cottage, surrounded by ponds, gardens, flowers and fountains that must be right out of a fairtytale. It would be any girl's dream location for an afternoon tea party. The decor (according to our server) came straight from France, and was the most eclectic collection of classical art, vintage candlesticks, and baroque style furniture.... not to mention the food was delightful!
