THE OLDEST LIE–PRIDE

Apprising Ministries has often told you about “contexualization,” i.e. attempting to make “the Gospel relevant” to a postmodern culture and a postChristian nation. But, 1) the original liberals already tried that with their “modern theology” attempting to cobble together a form of Christianity for their modern culture.
And, 2) the United States was never a Christian nation to begin with; it’s always featured a plurality of religions in order to be accommodating to its melting pot of different races and nationalities. So, rather than Christian, it’s more accurate to say that America, by and large, has always been a religious culture.
Now let me zero in on the heart of Satan’s scheme, which is: The Church must change for today’s version of capricious culture; and to accept contradicting views of truth from people’s personalized spiritual experiences, because God understands that they have many different ways to come to Him in relationship.

In other words, man decides how he will experience God because postmodern culture finds the concept of absolute truth too narrow for their way broad way of thinking. They’ve now become enlightened to their belief that good ol’ God is just happy that people today wish to worship Him in whatever way they want to.
What’s being missed here is, the Gospel is never relevant to people dead in sin. In addition, in order to know how God truly wishes His creatures to relate to Him, mankind would have to be God. Unless that is, the infinite Creator had chosen to reveal to His finite creation what His desires were along that line.
You see, when we choose to look at this issue with spiritual eyes, given us by God the Holy Spirit, then something else entirely emerges; doesn’t it? Look at Genesis, chapter 3 and verse 1 — “Did God actually say? The KJV reads, Yea, hath God said? This is simply an extension of the oldest lie there is.
It’s actually the very corrupt heart of Satan’s same old double-barreled attack, which he’s been using since the Garden of Eden. In fact, he’s still using it today; only now, he’s even infiltrated the mainstream of evangelicalism through the neoliberal cult operating within the Emerging Church aka the Emergent Church.
Here’s his strategy number 1) Knock out communications—blowup the Word of God—the Bible; put it out of commission. Satan wants man to begin to rely on himself—his “flesh,” his own pride-filled self-centered sinful nature, his own depraved reasoning; get him to trust what he believes in his corrupt heart.
Oftentimes preachers here will rightly quote Jeremiah 17:9 — The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? However, “Christian” agnostics within the Emerging Church will tend to slough that off as merely some primitive and horribly outdated Old Testament concept.
Since we are supposedly more enlightened now we can understand that this antediluvian people just didn’t comprehend the unconditional love and acceptance of God that Jesus of Nazareth later taught. Then for some, they actually teach that was the way God used to be; but now, He’s changed how He deals with us.
But as will happen with every single malicious man-centered theology that Satan will ever perpetrate, the light of Scripture will reveal it to be a lie. The fact is, Christ Jesus our Lord—Whom these people profess to know—actually teaches exactly what the Holy Scriptures of the Old Testament themselves have said all along.
Concerning human nature the Master points out:

And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” (Mark 7:20-23)

Which then leads us into serpentine strategy number 2) Disrupt communication; confuse your enemy—spread lies through propaganda that cause division—get them to turn on each other. Make them doubt that they can ever understand God’s Word:

But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:4-5)

In other words, man can decide for himself what is right and what is wrong by following the dictates of his own heart . Do you recognize the pro-homosexual agenda? The KJV brings out the devil’s intent a little clearer — ye shall be as gods. Satan’s lie here is that mankind can even be “little gods.” Recognize the Word Faith Movement?
Well, you’re about to hear WF teachers T.D. Jakes and Joyce Meyer both teaching this blasphemy for yourself:

And with all of this Satan has set mankind up for the oldest lie there is—pride—saying, just as he once once did:

“I will make myself like the Most High.” (Isaiah 14:14 )

Now that you know, why don’t you turn away from your pride; for Jesus is calling and:

“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 4:7)

The good news is, there’s repentance and forgiveness of sins in Jesus Name… Won’t you come home…

Mark Driscoll and Loveline: Friend of the World, Enemy of God?

Before I begin commenting on the subject on this post, let me share some Scripture:

The Apostle Peter talking about False Teachers:
“For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error.While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.” (2 Peter 2:18-19)

The Apostle John also talking about False Teachers:
“They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.”
(1 John 4:5-6)

False teachers are characterized by certain attributes. First, they attract people through the lusts of the flesh. It can be money, fame, or sex. Think of anything the flesh wants; false teachers use these things to lure people. Secondly, because they use the means of the world, the world hears them. As you read this article, I want you to keep these Scriptures in mind. It is not my word or presentation of the facts that stands, it is God’s Word compared to the facts that ultimately will judge. It will split the very marrow between the bones as it divides truth from error. We don’t split hairs here; only bone and marrow.

Mark Driscoll and Loveline: Friend of the World, Enemy of God?

(Disclaimer, because of the nature of this post, the following quotes may contain sexually explicit language. We here at SAID Radio do not approve of these quotes as Scripture does not condone such speech coming from one’s mouth, especially a pastor’s. But in order to provide you with evidence, we sadly have to present these things. )

Let me ask you something: What things do you take pride in? If I was to ask you a list of your accomplishments, what would you write? I bet if I was to take a look at that list that it would tell a lot about you. As I was looking through Mark Driscoll’s list of accomplishments on his official Mark.tv website I came across this:

It’s no secret that sex is a favorite topic of Mark Driscoll (click here for more on that) and it almost came as a shock to me that he was a guest on Loveline with Dr.Drew. Not only was it a shock that Mark was on the show (despite his sex-talk I thought he was beyond that) it was a shock that he not only went on the show, but that he also sets it up as a trophy on the virtual wall of his website.

Many of you are probably wondering why I am so surprised. Unless you understand what exactly Loveline is, it would be something easy to brush off. Many are familiar with The View and Nightline but as Paul said of spiritual gifts, I say of this show: I do not want you to be ignorant concerning Loveline. A brief history: Loveline was started by Dr.Drew Lapinski back in 1983. Over the years, media outlets and co-hosts have changed, but the format has remained the same. Loveline even had a short stint on MTV and has enjoyed a far reaching influence. According to wikipedia:

"Currently, Loveline is broadcast live, Sundays through Thursdays at 10pm–12am PT(Mondays through Fridays at 1am–3am ET).^[1] Syndication is usually on rock, alternative, and adult talk radio stations. Loveline can also be heard online anywhere in the world, by streaming through the websites of affiliate stations."

So what exactly is discussed on Loveline? The best description I could find came directly from their official website:

“Loveline follows the call-in question-and-answer model with the primary goal of helping youth and young adults with relationship, sexuality, and drug addiction problems. As a practicing internist and addictionologist with training in psychology, Dr. Drew's answers have medical credibility, but the addition of Adam Carolla's humor and insight resulted in a program with entertainment value as well. Carolla repeatedly stated his role on the show as something of a trojan horse: He lured listeners with dirty jokes and wisecracks in hopes they'd learn something that could improve their lives. Actors or members of popular bands often participate as guests.”

While I would not be against a show advising one on medical issues; I am against a show that uses the “trojan horse” of previous co-host Adam Corolla’s (Dr.Drew’s current sidekick is “Psycho Mike” Catherwood) dirty jokes to make light of issues one may have. The issues discussed on this show and the jokes and remarks made by the co-hosts are disgusting. While it is sad that Dr.Drew and Psycho Mike do these things; this is the world and I do not expect better from them. (Please pray for them as they need to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They are sinners in need of repentance just like us.) What is even sadder is the fact that I can quote a pastor who uses similar tactics as a worldly show:

I assumed the students and singles were all pretty horny, so I went out on a limb and preached through the Song of Songs. ….Each week I extolled the virtues of marriage, foreplay, oral sex, sacred stripping, and sex outdoors, just as the book teaches…This helped us a lot because apparently a pastor using words like ‘penis’ and ‘oral sex’ is unusual, and before you could say “aluminum pole in the bedroom,” attendance began to climb steadily to more than two hundred people a week.”

Just as Dr.Drew and current co-host Psycho Mike use dirty jokes to get people to tune into their show, Mark uses coarse jesting and sexual innuendo to get people to come to Mars Hill Church.

Already without ever listening to this radio program we know that this is something that a Christian should stay away from. We know that whenever the world needs sex advice, the church is the last place they’ll look. But yet, a man with the title of “Pastor” receives an invite to become a guest. Why exactly is this? Why was Mark Driscoll invited to be on this show? Let’s hear it from Dr.Drew:

“Simply put, Mark is famous for being outspoken and his fans follow and re-tweet nearly every quotes.”(sic)

Following this is a handful of quotes from the episode which I will not post here. I will however, link to this article here.

Following the filthy quotes Dr.Drew ends with:

“Mark’s got some very funny and interesting things to say. Follow him on Twitter.”

Was Mark Driscoll invited because he was a great Bible expositor? No! Was Mark Driscoll invited because he is well known for preaching the Gospel and evangelizing? No! Dr.Drew is not interested in those things or in spiritual insight from the Scriptures. Mark Driscoll was simply invited because he is a funny, witty guy! Of course we don’t expect the world to want to hear about the Gospel, they are blind to it and the Cross of Christ is an offensive thing. So then if this is the case, what exactly was Mark Driscoll doing on Loveline as a pastor? Let me make this clear, he wasn't invited as a secular professional with insight into these matters, he was invited as a “pastor” and even throughout the episode Dr.Drew refers to him so.

I took the liberty to listen to the whole episode, which I will make available at the bottom of this page. Please be warned, there is explicit content throughout. Even Mark Driscoll himself rated it “MH-17” (a take on the NC-17” movie rating) when he announced it:

I want to make it clear that I do not condone or recommend that anyone listen to it, but I wanted to make sure I could get my facts straight and I also want others to have access to the evidence if need be. For those of you who do listen, I pray God will guard your heart and mind. I prayed and also had Michael and my pastor pray before I listened. It may seem silly to some, but we fight a spiritual war.

My review on the episode itself will be brief as enough has been said. From what I understand during this time Loveline was searching for a new co-host and so thus; Mark Driscoll was a guest. There is a third person (I am not sure who it is) that sits in the backseat and cracks some jokes from time to time. But most of the dialogue comes from Mark himself filling the shoes of the missing co-host. Throughout the show, Mark Driscoll shoots some witty one-liners to spice things up, the choicest ones quoted by Dr.Drew above. All in all, Dr.Drew and Mark Driscoll agreed on a lot of things, and the Gospel never got shared. There was some talk about spirituality and some spiritual advice but Dr.Drew looked down on it. Never did Mark Driscoll make a mention of repentance of sins and how a crucified and risen Savior is the hope man has for all his problems, physical, emotional or spiritual. A lot of hurting people call in to this show and listen to it. In a place of darkness Mark Driscoll had the chance to be a light but failed to do so.

Once again, nothing about Christ or the Gospel. All we get is that Mark had fun and that he and Dr.Drew agreed on a lot of things. As Mark put it: “This isn't any different than the average pastor’s counseling load.The questions(...) you get them all the time.”

Should the questions and answers Mark gives be different? I would hope Mark gives his counselees what they need: Jesus Christ our risen Lord and Savior.They don’t need psychological advice, the world does that pretty well; Dr.Drew seems to be a man who knows what he is talking about. But we are not called to do what the world does. We are not called to act like the world, or to be liked by the world. When the world approves of you beware: you may be of it. Our prayer is that Mark would be less like the world and be more like Jesus Christ. Mark needs to be careful when dealing with the world for James tells us:

Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
(James 4:4)

A scary verse indeed. If Mark wants friendship with the world, then the wrath of God is what he will get. Please pray that Mark Driscoll would repent, as I do not wish to see anyone under that. As James also tells us, teachers will be held more accountable for what they preach and what they do.

A Refuge Above

It got me thinking
If you look closely, that dark form in the near center is in fact a nest in this photo. High up some 25ft or so off the ground on the tree where I live. It got me thinking. That little bird probably no bigger than the palm of my hand being able to build a warm cozy nest high above from predators. Safe and sound for its days while it lives here. I say thats just incredible. Certainly someone was so wise and such an awesome Supreme Being certainly created that little fellow and directed it to just do as it should to live and survive in an awesome unrecognizable and overlooked way. I certainly believe to the God of the Bible. The God of Issac, Abraham and Jacob. The God of Israel. Seeing this nest reminded me of what David had to say about God. A praise of deliverance in 2 Samuel 22:2-4:

"The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies."

The Life of David long ago in Israel certainly knew the Lord as the way we all ought to say such incredible poetic words of praise and worship. Looking at that nest sure sounds like what the Lord has done for that little bird and certainly will do for all that have that relationship w/ Jesus Christ Lord & Savior of a fallen species known as humanity.

Mark Driscoll & The Myths of John Shelby Spong

Why is Mark Driscoll posting up quotes by liberal Bible bashing "Bishop John ( Shelby) Spong"?

You might be asking who exactly is John Shelby Spong? We would encourage you to read over this great article on him put together by "Let Us Reason Ministries" :

Here is a snippet from the article above to show what John Shelby Spong believes and how it differs from the Bible drastically:

"Spong in his article 'A call for a new reformation.' This Reformation he claims will be about the very life and death of Christianity. Because it goes to the heart of how Christianity is to be understood, it will dwarf in intensity the Reformation of the 16th century. It will not be concerned about authority, ecclesiastical polity, valid ordinations and valid sacraments. It will be rather a Reformation that will examine the very nature of the Christian faith itself.

Spong lists 12 items that need to be addressed I will not address all of them, nor belabor the answers but be as a short and concise as possible to show that his prejudices cloud his conclusions.
1.Theism, as a way of defining God, is dead. So most theological God-talk is today meaningless. A new way to speak of God must be found."
Bibles answer- God has revealed to us on how we are to think of him and our relationship to him. God does not change and neither has his way for man to know, understand and grow in the knowledge of him.
2. Since God can no longer be conceived in theistic terms, it becomes nonsensical to seek to understand Jesus as the incarnation of the theistic deity. So the Christology of the ages is bankrupt.
Bibles answer- God can no longer be conceived in theistic terms, says who? He seems to assume that he represents a vast portion of people. In fact he might but not within the walls of the believing church, but those who have backslidden or apostatized. To deny what God has revealed in his holy word and go around with a collar saying you represent him is to involve oneself and others in deception. Why use the bible at all if one does not believe its message.
3. The biblical story of the perfect and finished creation from which human beings fell into sin is pre-Darwinian mythology and post-Darwinian nonsense.
Bibles answer-If you can't believe in Genesis then you certainly will not believe in anything else. Jesus said Genesis was true, Spong says Jesus is liar. Despite his attraction to Darwin it still is a theory at best and as science progresses it looks like the light is going to further dimmer on Darwin's grandiose theory.
4. The virgin birth, understood as literal biology, makes Christ's divinity, as traditionally understood, impossible.
Bibles answer- Not at all and Spong needs to do his research and catch up with science as well as Scripture.If god cannot take a man from a woman then he certainly could not make man from the ground in Genesis. of course this is the crux of the matter. Spong is anti supernatural, so this can't occur according to his human reasoning.
6. The view of the cross as the sacrifice for the sins of the world is a barbarian idea based on primitive concepts of God and must be dismissed."
Bibles answer-The whole revelation from start to finish shows that God required a sacrifice for sin. From Adam through the OT tabernacle and all its typology. The bible is not written by one person nor a few in a short period of time. It spans 1600 years with 40 different authors on 4 different continents. It would be ludicrous to think that this was all invented by man when it is so consistent in its speaking to the problems and its solutions over this stretch of time.
7. Resurrection is an action of God. Jesus was raised into the meaning of God. It therefore cannot be a physical resuscitation occurring inside human history.
Bibles answer- He's got this half right, it is an action of God and there were resurrections occurring before Christ came. But for one to deny the fact of Christ being raised is not only anti supernaturalism but in fact disbelieving the gospel. Which then disqualifies him as a representative for the good news. In fact Spong has no good news but its all bad.
10. Prayer cannot be a request made to a theistic deity to act in human history in a particular way.
Bibles answer- God asks us to pray even though he knows what we will ask before we do and what will occur. You might as well say God is dead long live man. The way Spong's theology pans out.
11. The hope for life after death must be separated forever from the behavior control mentality of reward and punishment. The Church must abandon, therefore, its reliance on guilt as a motivator of behavior."
Bibles answer- The high standard of morality should not be powered by punishment itself but understood in light of consequences for ones actions. The love of God and obedience to what he asks is the first motivator, if that fails the 2^nd kicks in to warn someone of their ignoring the first. Guilt can be a good thing if it is used to change the course toward preservation and avoiding harm. To feel guilty about something means someone's conscience is working, they have a standard.
He ends this article by saying" So I set these theses today before the Christian world and I stand ready to debate each of them as we prepare to enter the third millennium. Has he debated anyone?"

In light of the quote given above one can determine Spong's skeptical view on if the events described in the Bible actually took place or not. We here at "SAID Radio" do believe in the word of God and do not believe as Spong that the virgin birth, Adam & Eve and the ascension are mythical elements in our faith tradition and instead we believe these events to be true.

With a quote like this one has to ask why Driscoll is posting such stuff. Some of his followers on Twitter explain that he does not believe the same way as Spong based on a few of his teachings.

Here's Spong's quote again: “The virgin birth will join Adam & Eve & the story of the ascension as clearly mythical elements in our faith tradition - Bishop John Spong”

If we deny the word of God, the Bible than ultimately we are also inevitably throwing out our salvation and everything we know about it. Spong directly attacks key doctrines in the Christian faith. If we say Jesus was not born of a virgin we not only deny the scriptures (Matthew 1:18-20), this is also an attack the messianic role of Jesus (Isaiah 7:14 via Matthew 1:23) which inevitably denies the incarnation of Jesus (being God in flesh).

For Spong to suggest such things demonstrates that in light of what the Bible says, Spong has the spirit of Antichrist:

²By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, ³and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world."

How about denying "Adam & Eve's existence? I believe Chris Rosebrough of Fighting For The Faith sums it up well:
"In Matthew 19:3-6, the eyewitness biographer records this exchange between Jesus and the Pharisees:

Matt. 19:3 And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?” 4 He [Jesus] answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

The topic that the Pharisees were testing Jesus on was marriage and divorce. The question was rather stupid and poorly thought out. But, Jesus’ answer tells us a lot about His view of the book of Genesis. First Jesus points the Pharisees to Genesis as if it alone provides the authoritative answer to their trick question. Then Jesus quotes Genesis 1:27 as if it literally meant what it said, “God created him; male and female he created them”. Then Jesus quotes Genesis 2:24 as if it literally meant what it said, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh...”

There was no equivocation on Jesus’ part and no hint that He secretly believed that the opening story of Genesis was a man-made poetic myth or that it was less than historically true. In fact, Jesus’ final statement on the matter makes it perfectly clear that Jesus literally believes that God is the one who brings a man and woman together and makes them one flesh. All of this is predicated on Jesus’ personal knowledge that Adam and Eve were literally and historically the first two humans that Jesus created.

Challenge Questions: If you call yourself a Christian or a Christ-Follower yet don’t believe that the story of Adam and Eve is historically true or accurate, what authority are you basing this belief on? Is it right for you to call yourself a Christian or a Christ-Follower when your view of the scriptures are at odds with Jesus’ views?"

To better understand the quote in light of the "ascension", let's take a look at one of Spong's objections to it

"8. The story of the ascension assumed a three-tiered universe and is therefore not capable of being translated into the concepts of a post-Copernican space age."

^"Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. ¹⁰And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, ¹¹who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” - Acts 1:9-11

To openly deny such a thing is a denial of scripture first and foremost and secondly it denies the return of Jesus. In which Jesus says much about:

^"For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be."

- Matthew 24:27

"Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming."

- Matthew 24:42

"Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory."

- Luke 21:27

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. ²In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. ³And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. ⁴And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

- John 14:1-4

Now are we supposed to believe a man who says Jesus is a liar? Jesus is very clear with His disciples about His leaving and definite return:

“But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ ⁶But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. ⁷Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. ⁸And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: ⁹of sin, because they do not believe in Me; ¹⁰of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; ¹¹of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.¹²“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. ¹³However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. ¹⁴He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. ¹⁵All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.¹⁶“A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father.”¹⁷Then some of His disciples said among themselves, “What is this that He says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because I go to the Father’?” ¹⁸They said therefore, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is saying.”

¹⁹Now Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, “Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’? ²⁰Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. ²¹A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. ²²Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you."

(This is not meant to be an exhaustive list of verses on the return of Jesus but to simply demonstrate the point that Spong is at ends with Jesus our Lord and Savior.)

One would also have to conclude that the Holy Spirit "the helper" never came if Jesus didn't ascend into the heavens. The Bible says otherwise:

"When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. ²And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. ³Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. ⁴And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."

- Acts 2:1-4

"Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit."

- 1 Corinthians 12:3

According to the Bible we should have this mentality about His (Jesus') return:

^"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
¹²teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, ¹³looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, ¹⁴who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works."

- Titus 2:11-14

In response to Spong's comments on Copernican science disproving the ascension I would like to point you the reader to this (pay attention also to what is underlined)

"For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. ¹⁷And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist"

- Colossians1:16-17 (underlining is mine)

For a man such as Spong who was not willing to take the scriptures as truth, it is not surprising that he would come to such erroneous conclusions. As Colossians shows there are things "visible" and "invisible" and Jesus' ascension itself was visible until the " . . . cloud received Him out of their sight." - Acts 1:9.

^{To address the "three-tiered universe" let's see what the Holy Spirit through Paul shares:}
^"I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven. ³And I know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows— ⁴how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. ⁵Of such a one I will boast; yet of myself I will not boast, except in my infirmities. ⁶For though I might desire to boast, I will not be a fool; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, lest anyone should think of me above what he sees me to be or hears from me.^"

We clearly see that scripturally speaking yes we have a "three-tiered universe". For a great article dealing with this, I point you to this article from "Let Us Reason Ministries":

Mr. Spong deviates far from Biblical truth as one can see. So I ask once again why is Mark Driscoll posting a quote by Spong on his Twitter that ultimately is calling the word of God a lie and calling Jesus a liar (in light of Spong's context)? Especially when last time I checked he has 315,120 followers on Twitter that now will be introduced to likes of John Shelby Spong.

"And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."   - Colossians 3:17


Not only is this one of my favorite verses but what a sobering thought to consider. Can we say that our words or deeds are done in the name of Jesus?
The Lord does call us to a standard and we can't do it in our own strength and instead need to humble ourselves and ask for His help, as we deny ourselves daily.
Too many times thats not the case, many Christians say they are too busy with work, school, sports, etc. I remember using the excuse before becoming a Christian that I tried to put Jesus first but that it was hard because of work, school, etc. When I read this verse as a believer I was amazed to see how it addresses both "word" and "deed" because it encompasses our everyday encounters/ activities no matter where we are at.
I rejoice at this standard because it helps me know what way I should go and helps me evaluate whether if what I say or do can be done in Jesus' name. I've met many people who claim to be "Christians" and have no sense of guarding their tongue against worldly perversities.

Consider Jesus's words:

"Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man." - Matthew 15:11

This should be a sobering thought. Let me encourage you to let your speech be like this:
"Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers." - Ephesians 4:29

We see that our words need to be part of our self that we are willing to deny. James advises:

"So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;
20    for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. " - James 1:19-20 (underline mine)

It's not only our words but also our deeds:

I encourage us to be reminded of what scripture says:

"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." - Ephesians 2:10

We were created for good works (not saved by them). And I ask how many of us our mindful of this especially in the presence of unbelievers/ believers alike?

Consider Jesus's words:

"Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
18    A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
19    Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20    Therefore by their fruits you will know them." - Matthew 7:17-20

"Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit." - Matthew 12:33

The "fruit" is synonymous with our "deeds". Let us be willing to repent and humble ourselves before the Lord and ask Him to help us with this. Too much of the Christian church has let the worlds ways / their old nature dictate their actions and communication. But I urge us to remember we are to be a "living sacrifice" (Romans 12:1).

If we understand this in light of the Tanakh / OT:

" . . . With all your offerings you shall offer salt." - Leviticus 2:13b

We understand that with all that is offered to the Lord shall be seasoned with "salt".

Not only is salt a natural preserver (to prevent corruption), but in addition also adds flavor.
Most salt is obtained by the sea.

In the epistles we have an encouragement:

"Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. " - Colossians 4:6 (underline is mine)

Let's consider that water is the source of "salt" therefore we need to have the "water" that Jesus refers to the "Holy Spirit" (John 4:13-14, John 7:37-39) in order to carry these acts out.

Now let us understand this in light of what Jesus says:

"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
14    "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15    Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
16    Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." - Matthew 5:13-16

Light clearly refers to actions. From this we can see that our words and deeds can help bring glory to our Lord.

If we have been saved and are children of light (John 12:35-36a) than let us take heed to what the Lord expects of us. Remember we can't do it in our own strength but it does require us willing to humble ourselves daily and asking the Lord to help us be a salt and light. Amen.

We do not discredit the aspects of Chuck's ministry that have been fruitful but at the same time he has concerned many with various things presented on "Pastor's Perspective" as well as some of these continual ties with guys like Driscoll that are being encouraged by guys like Brian Broderson, Greg Laurie and Bob Coy to name a few.

Watch the Vimeo video of this years recent Senior Pastor's Conference 2012 discussion panel: http://vimeo.com/43699608 At 24:26 "new Calvinism" is brought up which leads right into Mark Driscoll. The thing is Greg claims that most criticism is not based on fact and that people should talk to him about concerns. Not only myself but a few others have tried and he has refused to listen and in some cases ignored people to their face when approached in a loving manner. Our concern is about the facts. Chuck is also sitting in the front of this event as all three men openly endorse Mark Driscoll.

Anybody who knows the word of God should be concerned about this. Please pray on as this is not something we take joy in having to share. The times are only getting darker, we need to be in our Word more and more. Our concern is for God's precious sheep, we share this information so you can understand the concerns we have and hopefully help warn others.

Prayer Request For Israel

God bless, let's remember to keep Israel in prayer for protection/ salvation.
It's times like these that you can truly find where ministries of all kind stand in light of Israel. Many think the Church or America had replaced Israel. This is very unscriptural Biblically speaking.

The sun is still (1 of 3 ordinances that would need to cease in order for God to be done with the Israel) out proving God is not done with His people.

Read Jeremiah 31:35-36: "Thus says the LORD, Who gives the sun for a light by day, The ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night, Who disturbs the sea, And its waves roar (The LORD of hosts is His name):
36 " If those ordinances depart From before Me, says the LORD, Then the seed of Israel shall also cease From being a nation before Me forever." Also read Romans 11.

A Brief Definition of Reconstructionism

In John 18:36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” The Reconstructionist is guilty of allegorizing scripture; this is when you take a literal meaning or a simple meaning of scripture and transform it into a fable. They also do this with the book of Revelation. The history of this teaching is best described in a book titled “Road to Holocaust” by Hal Lindsey:

“By the time Augustine (A.D.354-425), the famous Bishop of Hippo, Origen’s system of interpretation dominated the Christian scene. (sic) But it was Augustine who systematized the allegorically based teachings into a cohesive theology that would dominate the Church for over a thousand year's.(sic) Even the Reformers continued to hold most of his views, including his allegorically based, unrefined eschatology. The Roman Catholic Church, using Origen’s system of interpretation and Augustine’s theology, soon applied and instituted the teaching that they were the inheritors of Israel’s promised to Israel and therefore must take ultimate authority over the political powers of this world. At one point during the Middle ages, the Church held authority over virtually all the Middle Ages, the Church held authority over virtually all the rulers of Europe. History witnesses that this was one of the most oppressive periods of Christianity, both toward Christians and those outside the Church.” pp 9-10

As many know the Church during this time believed they had divine authority over Scripture; simple man could not understand it. Today the teaching of Reconstructionism is flourishing especially with the onslaught of Reconstructionist books and Newsletters. The most influential book (text book) today for the movement is “The Institutes of Biblical Law” by R.J. Rushdooney published in 1973, 800 pages long. Rushdooney came from a long line of Armenian immigrants and did have a Masters degree from the University of California and later received his Ph.D. He founded the Chalcedon Foundation in 1965 and had a newsletter he published. Rushdooney is now deceased but his books and materials live on. Rushdooney was a student of Cornelius Van Til, a Princeton University Theologian. Van Til was not a Reconstructionist himself but laid some groundwork that was not correct and the Reconstructionist continued from there. Also, John Calvin is popular among their ranks; the Reconstructionists see themselves as the political heirs of Calvin’s doctrine. His doctrine is a model for them politically that was created in Switzerland in the 1500s. Rushdooney also happens to be the man who launched the home school movement. It is important to scan those books as well for Reconstructionist jargon.

Briefly the Reconstructionist teaches that it is the Church that must change the politics of our country and then institute those laws upon man. The law must be founded on the Mosaic Law; of course that is Old Testament. Sounds refreshing compared to what we have today; however, then they define their law! That law would include the death penalty for juvenile delinquents, pagans, and those of us that believe in the rapture of the church, just to name a few. I had to ask a question at one of their meetings I attended in the early 1990s: “Where do pre-trib Christians who believe in the rapture fit in?” The answer was: “They are pagans!”

The Reconstructionists want a third political party believing the Republican Party (and us the “Christian Right”) has abandoned them, so they want another party. What they will call it is unknown but it should be labeled the “Theocratic Party”. Once the theocratic political government is in place the faithful Dominionist Charismatics will carry out their agenda. Ah, the foot soldiers are already training the congregants to move forward! These are your Latter Rain dominionists. They refer to this as "The Day of the Lord", or "Joel’s Army". These self proclaimed prophets believe it is the will of God for them to execute judgment on the world as well as the Church. They are waiting for that “divine” call from their “Unholy” Spirit, which they have confused as the Holy Spirit. In fact one day I was driving in Orange County and stopped into the Vineyard Church (at that time it was pastored by John Wimber). Anyway, I decided to visit their bookstore and these tapes by Jack Deer caught my eye so decided to buy them. On the way home I listened to the tapes and the offenses, militant tone and words were shocking. My husband and I pulled the car off the road. It was so bad that we wanted to make sure we were hearing him right.

The following is a transcribed version out of a booklet titled “Joel’s Army” by Discernment Ministries. I highly recommend everyone get a copy. They quote Jack Deer:

"How is God going to bring judgment upon His Church and then judgment upon the land after His Church? He's going to do it with a large and mighty army. Now what is this army like? He says, first off in verse 3, well, first of all He said that this army is totally unique. This army, there's never been one like it, and there never will be one like it in ages to come… When this army comes, He says it's large and it's mighty. It's so mighty that there's never been anything like it before… “Begin the slaughter and begin it in the temple and begin it with the elders, the leaders of my people.” And they walk through the land and they start and they begin to slaughter and, you know God has already started that? He has already started with the biggest names in His household? He has already started the slaughter… and it is coming now among the Church. He'll start with the leaders, but He'll move out into the Church. That's why, when He says in verse 2, “It's a day not of rejoicing and happiness, it's a day of darkness and gloom. It's a day of clouds and blackness, like dawn spreading across the mountains.” You really want the Day of the Lord to come? Woe to you, woe to you who long for the Day of the Lord. That Day will be darkness, not light." (Jack Deere, “Joel’s Army,” Vineyard Ministry International, audio cassette, 1990) [Emphases added]

This same rhetoric is being played out across this land and other countries as well.

^{" . . .}yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service." - John 16:2

One of the most horrible offenses of the Reconstructionist teaching is that God is done with the Jew and has cast away Israel. They believe that the church is now Israel and the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob have no future. The Bible says differently.

Note what Jeremiah 31:35-36 says:

“Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name:³⁶If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.”

That is pretty clear I think! Israel is a nation that belongs to the Lord it is His timepiece. God never breaks a promise to anyone. The Reconstructionist has flooded the church with their twisted facts that God has abandoned Israel.

· This kind of teaching is called Replacement theology it is anti-Semitic and a complete heresy. This teaching is one of the worst offenses of this movement; in fact, it is Nazism all over again. Sometimes this teaching is referred to as Spiritual Israel. Remember, Hitler believed that the Jews had no place; that God had abandoned them.

· Gary DeMar; another prominent leader in the Reconstructionist movement, writes in “The Reduction of Christianity”:
“A clear example of Christ’s rule over the nation for His church was the destruction of the Jewish state that persecuted the early church (Matt.24; Luke 21; cf. Acts 6:8-15). In destroying Israel, Christ transferred the blessings of the kingdom from Israel to a new people, the church.”...Some of the other leaders that have developed the spreading of such messages are:

· David Chilton who wrote “Paradise Restored” -very anti-Semitic.

· Ray Sutton: “That You May Prosper”

There are many others, but these as well as Rushdooney are prominent. Of course let's not forget to mention Gary North, the son in law to Rushdooney who wrote the preface to David Chilton’s "Days of Vengeance". North has been upfront and has left his soiled spots across the Church inroads.

The following is taken from his book titled “The Judeo Christian Tradition”:

“Jesus came as the final prophet, the very Son of God, to call Israel to final repentance. He delivered God's final covenant lawsuit against Israel, a final threat of divorce. The Jews as a covenanted nation refused to listen. Instead, they killed Jesus – divorce through execution. They submitted their own final divorce papers to God by killing the Bridegroom. To their shock and horror, the Bridegroom returned from the dead to issue the final divorce decree to Israel Jesus issued this divorce decree in private, after His resurrection, but prior to His ascension. He did this by announcing the annulment of the covenantal requirement of the mark of circumcision, and the substitution of a new mark, baptism. "Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, 10, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen" (Matthew 28:16-20). From that point on, Israel could not return as a nation to be God's Bride.”

God is a perfect God and this is so blasphemous that I cannot even wrap my spirit around it, let alone my mind!

I have noted some ministries have tried to expose the Dominionist/ Reconstructionist movement, but cleverly leave out the movement’s heresy on replacement theology. This leaves the ministries suspect in my book! I personally know of one such gentleman who told me he agrees that the church is Israel, but later I saw an article on his website about Dominion theology. At first I thought, "Oh wow maybe he changed", but then I noticed that he left out the most important heresy! Sometimes it is good to see what is missing instead of what is there. I want to end with the Scriptures:

Romans 11:1-2

"I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2; God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew…

Romans 11:25 For I do not want you brethren to be uninformed of this mystery-so that you will not be wise in your own estimation-that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; v 26 and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob,”v27 This is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.” v 28 From the standpoint of the gospel they are “enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of God’s choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers; v 29 for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable."

Did you get that? Irrevocable!

Richard Rohr & Franciscan Mysticism: Watch Out For the Mystics!

Today's article takes us into the mysticism of Richard Rohr a Franciscan priest ( founding director of the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, New Mexico) that will be holding a conference advertised as below:

One could ask "what's the significance of Mr. Rohr?" in which I would answer his role in influencing the emergent church with leaders such as Rob Bell (Click here (1) to read Ken Silva's article dealing with this.) And he is promoted via Brian McLaren. (Don't believe click here: http://www.brianmclaren.net/archives/blog/fr-richard-rohr-gets-it-right.html )

When Rohr states the word "contemplation" in his school he does in fact mean contemplative prayer Click here for more on contemplative prayer (2)

In fact this is found under the CAC (Center for Action and Contemplation) "About" section:

It openly labels Richard Rohr as running an ecumenical ministry and states "The CAC staff is dedicated to the universal awakening of people", and finally as they state their curriculum bears witness to the christian tradition of contemplative practice and compassionate action.(http://cacradicalgrace.org/about-cac)

Even worse is what one reads on the "Mission & Vision" page:

This talk of a "new reformation" is not new jargon, check out this article on the "new reformation" here (3) Also take note of the "Cosmic Christ" concept, which is extremely New Age (click here (4) for a great article dealing with this). In fact this is very ecumenical as one can read.

As anyone can read through and see the dangerous things Rohr is promoting. Claiming the teaching of Jesus to be the "central reference point" and eventually leading those visiting to their "True Self". Rohr repeatedly departs from the scriptures and instead clings on to mysticism.

The conference as mentioned has a tag line (seen below) "I AM That Which I am seeking". The emphasis on "I AM" is a popular buzzword among much of the "New Agers" in order to claim they are god. Who can claim that they focus on the teachings of Jesus and yet proclaim such a thing?

Please pray for people getting caught up in mysticism. So many get so caught up in "church history" that they claim that the mystics were as much christian as any other. Sorry but the Bible will remain to be my plumbline to test truth out. Mysticism is very dangerous. Be on the look out for our interview with Ray Youngen on mysticism. I would encourage you to not attend not only to save your money ($225 - $325 per person) but also your soul. Let's pray that these people will turn away from these things and turn to Jesus and Hid word.

Oprah, Osteen, and Warren: A Lifeclass of Error

I never thought I'd see the day when these three would be together in the same room, and now that that day has come, I am not really surprised. Oprah, known for her TV show - now radio and other countless media outlets - has been a prime influence in spreading the New Age “gospel” to the masses of women across America. But in fact, she is a wolf and has the spirit of antichrist. She denies Jesus being the only way as you can see in this clip here:

So why would someone who is obviously not a Christian bring in “Christians” to speak on her show? What will they talk about? Will they be preaching our Lord and Savior crucified for our our sins? Many will probably say things like “Well perhaps Joel and Rick are trying to reach out to Oprah and bring her to Christ, you can't judge their motives.”

Ok, you are right I can't judge their motives, but I can certainly judge Oprah's program schedule:

10 a.m. CT: Joel Osteen on positive thinking and dreaming big

4 p.m. CT: Rick Warren on winning the hand you're dealt and The Purpose Driven Life

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember “positive thinking”, “dreaming big”, and “winning the hand you're dealt” being concepts that are found in the Bible. I don't see the words “Gospel” or “Christ” in any of those titles. Even if I did, I would be suspicious especially with Oprah's New Age background since the word “Christ” in New Age terminology has different connotations (ever heard of the “Cosmic Christ” who is in all of us?).

Sadly, many people will be deceived. Not only are Oprah's regular viewers going to tune into this class, but many unsuspecting immature believers that have been duped by Joel and Rick's teachings will now be exposed and influenced by the lies that Oprah propagates. Look at the official Oprah Facebook page where the Lifeclass was announced and read the following comment, with my response below it:

This isn't the greatest response, so I will expand it here. Sadly comments like these are made by people who are deceived. The Bible doesn't tell us to learn from everyone, but rather to test all things against God's Word and watch out for error. (Thessalonians 5:21) I think 1 Timothy 4:1-5 sums up this Lifeclass:

"I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry."

This is people taking what their own itching ears want to hear; this is the reason that men like Joel Osteen and Rick Warren are being invited by Oprah to speak. I can even compare this to 1 John 4:5 where John says:

"They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them."

In contrast John continues in verse 6:

"We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error."

These subjects that Osteen and Warren are going to be speaking on are topics that the world likes to hear. There's no difference from what they say and Oprah, or any of the guests on her show say. You can't tell the difference and the world can't either. To make my point I want to end with a very sad comment made by another user on Facebook on the same page I had showed above:

Very sad. This woman is being deceived, and apparently she can't tell the difference between all the New Age deception she is reading and the teachings of “Christian” pastors like Joel Osteen and Rick Warren. Let us pray that Joel and Rick will repent of their false doctrine and that the people under them may see the Truth of the Gospel of Christ, which truly frees us from our sin.
