Big Shot Musical auditions for Speaking Roles are open to any Salem youth and children and will be held Wed. March 4^th and Thurs. March 5^th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Choir Room. Roles to be cast include Pastor Mantis - a “praying mantis”, Vid – a Spider Mite, Bulch – a stink bug, Dottie – a ladybug, Sarge – an Army ant, Luna – a nocturnal moth, Sparks – a Firefly, and Riff, Action, and Diesel – termites. Auditions for solos will be scheduled at a future date.

Join in the fun as Salem Sunday School, Choirs, and Puppets band together to present this fun story of back-yard insects banding together to keep from being exterminated. Big Shot: Facing Down our Giants, Looking up to God will be presented Sat. and Sun. May 2^nd and 3^rd with a Dress rehearsal Fri. May 1^st.

Mountains of Praise Fall Choir Theme

Salem Choirs, Puppets, and Bells will soon begin a new season under
The theme "Building Mountains of Praise!" We'll learn how mountains
Are formed, the major mountain ranges of the world, and what creatures
Populate mountain habitats as we learn songs to praise our creator.

Children from age 4 through adults are welcome to share gifts of music in
choir,
Puppet, or handbell groups. Rehearsals begin Wed. Sept. 10th for choir and
Thurs. Sept. 11 for puppets and bells.

Come join the fun and add your song to our mountain of praise!

Salem Youth Musical this Weekend

Salem Sunday School and Creative Arts Ministries combine this weekend to
present a message in song titled
"Are We There Yet?", a story of Moses and the Exodus. Presented for 5:00
Sat. Mar. 8th and 10:30 Sun. Mar. 9th services,
Song titles include Down in Egypt's Land, The Burning Bush, The Ten Plagues,
The Red Sea Crossing, Song at the Seaside,
The Whining Song, A Golden Calf, The Ten Commandments, Prayer of Moses, and
The Promised Land.

Salem's 2013 Christmas Cantata Dec 7-8

Musicians rehearse and invite the public for What Sweeter Music: A Festival of Carols, the Message in Song at two Salem Lutheran worship services this weekend: 5:00 p.m. Sat. Dec. 7^th and 10:30 a.m. Sun. Dec. 8^th. The Christmas Cantata by Mark Hayes features 15 English, German, and French carols interwoven with newly composed songs to celebrate Christ’s birth.

Adult and children’s voices combine with an instrumental ensemble of Jennifer Docherty, flute, Kimberly McShane, trumpet, Jordan Smith, percussion, Ron Vanatta, piano, Denny Vaupel, keyboard, Brandon Weber, bass, and Dave Meyer, sound. Soloists include Mary Safford and Brandon Weber in Promise of Peace, Julie Breidenbach in Song of Mary, Coco Breidenbach, Kellie and Kimberly Hohlfeld and Brandon Weber in O Holy Night signed by Cristy Meyer, and Cristy Meyer in the Closing Medley. Narrators include Coco Breidenbach, Kathy Cain, Kimmie Hohlfeld, Carol McLain, Connie Seraphine, and Kim Woodstrup.

The cantata is directed by Carla Vanatta, Associate in Ministry, and is presented by Salem Creative Arts Ministry as a Singing Memorial in memory of Doris Castenson and Martha Jeanne Vanatta.

The Amazing Grace Race – In His Steps…in my shoes!

Salem has a great tradition of presenting Children's musicals each Spring.
Kids of all ages join together to prepare a message of faith in song with a
fun beat and dialogue. Musicals have speaking parts and solos for
individuals as well as whole group songs, and most songs are choreographed
with motions, dance movements, or sign language. Salem children's choirs
provide the backbone for the musical, but participation in the musical is
optional. Kids who are not in choir are also welcome.

Music books and CDs have been ordered and will be here soon.

Most children learn the musical by listening to the CD over and over.

Saturday morning rehearsals teach the choreography to songs, the staging,
and the lines for the characters of the musical. Please be thinking of
whether your child would like to participate in the musical this year. Check
the schedule below and say "yes" to The Amazing Grace Race!

Rehearsals are underway for Salem's 2012 Christmas Cantata, "The Promise of
Light", by Joel Raney. Salem Vocal Choirs as well as additional singers
will join Sounds of Grace Bell Choir, Ron and Todd Vanatta on four-hand
piano, Denny Vaupel on Synthesizer, Brandon Weber on Electric Bass, and
Michael Kasper on percussion to bring this lovely Christmas musical to life
for Sat. Dec. 8th 5:00 PM worship and Sun. Dec. 9th 10:30 AM worship.

Those interested in participating are invited to these Wed. and Sunday
rehearsals:
Wednesday night Choral rehearsals 8:00-8:45 p.m. In the Choir Room R Nov. 7
14,and 28 (none Thanksgving Eve due to worship) with the last Wed. Prior to
the presentations at 7:45 p.m. Dec 5th in the Sanctuary.

Sunday night rehearsals are for ALL INSTRUMENTS/BELLS and CHOIR Sunday
evenings, 6:00-7:30 p.m. In the sanctuary:
Nov. 11,18,25 and Dec. 2nd.

Children will rehearse Sun. Dec. 2nd for their part in the cantata.

Salem Puppet Praise Team

Salem Puppet Praise Team has prepared a Psalm, skit, and two songs for 8:00
and 10:30 a.m. Worship services Sunday, Oct. 14th as well as a presentation
for Sunday school students at 9:15 a.m. Shown are puppets Christine, Grandma
Arlene, and Suzie who work to understand the meaning of Jesus' words to the
rich man in Mark 10: 17-31. Crayon puppets will share a song at the offering
and an assortment of puppets will present a skit and song about acceptance
and the gift of being God's child at the Sunday School opening. Salem's
Puppet Team is in its 13th year of ministry to tell God's story and share
God's love. Salem Lutheran Church is located at 1145 DeKalb Avenue, Sycamore
All are welcome.

Salem Summer Choir is a fun and easy way to share your gift of song. Singers meet for a half-hour to learn a simple piece to share in 10:30 worship that day. All ages and voices are welcome! Summer Choir will rehearse from 9:45-10:15 a.m. In the Choir Room these Sundays: June 10, July 1 & 29, August 12, September 2 Blessing of Daily Labor. Come whenever you can! Your voice will be a gift to God and our congregation.

All Children and youth are invited to participate in Salem's Spring Musical,
Spend Awhile in the Nile, to be presented for Sat/Sun April 21st and 22nd
worship services.

Musicals have speaking parts and solos in addition to whole group songs, and
most songs are choreographed with motions, dance movements, or deaf-signing.

This year's musical has a part for an older youth or adult male as well as
roles for children.

With set construction, staging, choreography, Sound, props, and costumes.
Sponsors are always welcome to help pay for books, CD's, the accompaniment
