The sport usually taking place here is table tennis, but this week Liverpool based Smiths tribute band,The Smiths Indeed launched their 25th anniversary “Meat is Murder” tour “ The event was filmed for the BBC North West Tonight programme.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were treated to displays by ABA boxers, kickboxers and dancers during their visit. Prince Charles gave a speech about Youth United in the North West to representatives of different voluntary organisations working with young people. The Prince and Duchess looked at the clubs archive including a letter from Baden Powell confirming his intention to officially open the club in January 1904.

Everyone at the club felt the visit was a great success and showed the Prince’s interest in the varied opportunities the club offers to young people.

TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit the club on Thursday 4th February.

The Prince, who is the President of The Prince’s Trust, and The Duchess of Cornwall will be shown around the club to meet young people and volunteers. Prince Charles will also deliver a speech to launch” Youth United in the North West”

Hip Hop Specialists & Kidzwidreamz

Last night was a real Christmas party atmosphere with over 50 young people in the club. Our grand entrance hall was taken over by The Specialists – a local hip hop team of Scott, Ricky and Ben. In the gym lots of lads took part in the weird tradition of blind boxing, ably marshalled by boxing coach Dave Connell .

On Saturday night the place is taken over by Kidzwidreamz for a Christmas Cabaret – Jingle Bell Rock. Included is food by Chef Ray and the cooking team. Kidzwidreamz Dancers, Company Fierce Dance Academy, The St Clements Disco Dollies and even a bit of family bingo. Doors open 5.15 the event ends at 7.30 Photos – The backdrop being painted for the Kidzwidreams event on Saturday. The Specialists at last nights event.

Greater Manchester Snooker champs

Club members travelled to Stockport Lads’ Club this week to take part in the Greater

Manchester Federation under 14 Snooker Competition. We came away with both winner

and runner up prizes. Dylan Whitehead (left) and Barry Britton (right) will now go through

as regional winners to the Northern Final later in the season.

Salford NHS launch self care week from the boxing gym

Today the club was the venue for a Self Care event hosted by NHS Salford.
It was a great community event with lots of visitors finding out about local support. Ordsall’s famous boxing star Jamie Moore was the surprise guest.

SLGC members prefer Golf to Shopping

Last week during half term, club leaders organised a trip to the Trafford Centre. It proved to be popular with both boys and Girls. But Instead of “Shop till you drop” they spent a day at the Trafford Centre Golf Driving Range, learning new skills from the resident professional.

The Book

On Saturday we have a special launch for a new book inspired by Morrissey’s lyrics. Its part of the Manchester Literary Festival and starts at 8pm in the concert hall.

The event, hosted by editor Peter Wild, features readings from contributors Jeff Noon, Catherine O’Flynn, James Hopkin and Helen Walsh.
