			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Salford Lads’ Club volunteer, Niall Armsden sets off this week to the Indian Himalayas as one of only 2 young people in the North West selected to take part in an expedition organised the BSES, British Schools Exploration Society.<br />
Niall is an experienced camper, having taken part in 8 camping trips with Salford Lads club since he joined at the age of 10. He has also picked up first aid and heart start qualifications with the club.</p>

<p>Niall has received support from the Greater Manchester Lieutenancy and The New Barracks Tenants Co- Operative. He organised fundraising events by bag packing at Sainsburys Regent Road and with family and friends.The trip which is also part funded through an Army bursary scheme. Next year after finishing at Salford College Niall starts training to become a paramedic.</p>

For the past 6 months the novice boxers have worked along side ex professionals to reach a stage where they can take part in the ring. You might recognise a couple of  local lads, both Dayle and Chris featured on the poster have been involved with the club for many years.</p>

<p>Salford Lad and  rugby league star Charlie Pawsey returned to the club yesterday . Charlie was captain of Leigh RLFC, an England star and also captained the Great Britain team on the tour of Australia in 1950.</p>
<p>Archie, a life long fan of the game recalled Charlie’s exploits on the pitch for Leigh, England and Great Britain  Charlie was also at Manchester United before WW2 but switched to Rugby League after the war. His SLC membership record shows he attended the 1937 camp, played netball for the club and his first job was as a cabin boy. Charlie spent his working life on the docks becoming a stevedore.</p>

<p>Music and sports stars helped launch the <a href="http://www.mufoundation.org/News/Archive/2010/03/Kickz%20Launch.aspx ">Man United Foundation Kickz project</a> at the club recently. Cult band Kid British , Legendary local boy Peter Hook and Manchester United’s Owen Hargreaves came along to meet  young people  involved in the 8 week project.</p>

<p>The picture shows a group of young people and project workers Lee, Roy and Sheila filming outside the club last month as part of the Kickz project.</p>
