20.00h - Sortida del Rei Jaume I i el seu seguici

El Monarca recorrerà en seguici els carrers de la ciutat per recordar l'any 1229, quan en Jaume I va estar mesos esperant recollir un exèrcit prou nombrós per poder partir cap a la conquesta de Mallorca. Aquesta fou una autèntica aspiració històrica de la Corona d'Aragó, que amb el pas del temps s'ha convertit en la primera gran victòria bèl·lica del Conqueridor i que finalment el seu estol es va agrupar al port de Salou. Més de 300 participants del poble salouenc formaran part de la cercavila que sortirà de la Torre Vella, representant diferents personatges, com ara els soldats, els nobles, els estendards, el Rei i la Reina, els camperols..., acompanyats per les actuacions dels grups d'animació.

Recorregut: Torre vella, Via Aurèlia, Via Roma, Carrer Barcelona, Espigó del Moll, Platja de Llevant.

20.45 H. Arribada del seguici a la platja de Llevant. Seguidament, Combat d'armes i gran espectacle eqüestre.

A càrrec de l'hípica "Les Arenes,Toni Franch", amb recreació d'un torneig medieval.

Parlament del Rei i espectacle final.

Shambhala finally opens its doors on Saturday May 12th, at 3 PM

Among the ancient myths of Himalayas appears a lost paradise, surrounded by impregnable mountains. For thousands of years different stories were told about this place beyond Tibet, among the majestic peaks and remote valleys of Central Asia, that persists as an inaccessible paradise. This land was described as a heart of happiness and eternal youth. It's a hidden world which seems impossible to access. It's like mirages, it's there and it's not. In his novel the Russian spiritualist Nikolai Roerich speaks about Agharti (name of the Buddhist underground paradise) as a seat of the king of the world. According to Roerich, Agharti was related to every continent through secret passages. This place is known as Shambhala.

Countless legends have been written about Shambhala. And they describe this mythical place that you are about to discover, as an inaccessible paradise, kingdom of peace and wisdom. In PortAventura we have recreated this imaginary kingdom that was inspired to us by the culture and architectural style of the kingdom of Bhutan, one of the most isolated and unknown to the world. Small, landlocked and mountainous, it is described as a paradise between heaven and earth.

With Shambhala you'll conquer the skies.

It's a rollercoaster of the group "hypercoasters" which is characterized by huge size and height, a long run, and its possibility to reach an impressive speed.

The run of the roller coaster is over 1,650 meters, for which were necessary more than 1,600 tons of steel for the structure. We used over 4,000 m3 of concrete for foundations that in some places reach 18 meters deep.

The attraction beats three European records:

The highest rollercoaster in Europe (76 meters)
Rollercoaster with the longest fall in Europe (78 meters)
The fastest European hypercoaster, it will reach 134 km / h on the first descent.

There are 5 camelbacks (elevations during the course), the lowest of which has a height equivalent to a 7-storey building. On each of these camelbacks the travelers will experience the effect known as air time, losing contact with the seat. It will be like a brow of a hill on roads, but much more intense.

The rollercoaster has 3 trains, with 32 seats each and they may be operating on the attraction at the same time.

The design work was undertaken jointly between the companies PortAventura and Bollinger & Mabillard, who also designed the Dragon Khan.

La Diada de Sant Jordi - Saint Georges Day

Benvinguts, Bienvenidos, young lovers, wherever you are! Take your amor to Barcelona during the month of April to celebrate La Diada de Sant Jordi! Saint George or Sant Jordi in Catalan, was a romantic and chivalrous guy at heart who inspired Barcelona in seeing this day as the most giddy and amorous day of the year. He also happens to be the patron saint of the six million inhabitants of Catalunya.

Affectionately known as "The Day of Lovers," La Diada de Sant Jordi is often compared to Valentine's Day, but with some unique Latin twists. The main event is the exchange of gifts between sweethearts -- men give their 'novias' roses, and women give their 'novios' a book to celebrate the occasion. Due to popular legends about Barcelona, roses have always been associated with this day since medieval times. However, the giving of books as a gift is a more recent marketing twist prominent of our times.

A smart bookseller began to promote the holiday in 1923 as a way to honor the simultaneous deaths of the two greatest men of literature: Spain’s Miguel de Cervantes and Britain’s William Shakespeare, both deceased on April 23, 1616. Barcelona, being the publishing capital of the Spanish-speaking world, quickly adopted this double punch of love and literacy.

In Las Ramblas, Barcelona's principal street, as well as all over the city, hundreds of flower stands selling roses and makeshift bookstalls are hastily set up for the occasion. By the end of the day, some four million roses and 400,000 books are purchased in the name of love, registering half of the total yearly book sales of Catalunya on this day alone! One might find it difficult to see a woman without a rose in her hand, or a man walking by without a book.

Even though La Diada de Sant Jordi is not an official non-working holiday, most romantics ditch the office to take a stroll through the beautiful Mediterranean streets and enjoy the sultry springtime weather. Love is definitely in the air, but even if you don't have a novio to smooch on a park bench, there are still plenty of things to see and do: watch the dancing of the Sardana (the national dance of Catalonia) as it is performed throughout the day in the Plaça Sant Juane… and perhaps dare to join in if the mood strikes; or attend various book readings of noted authors, which are held in many book stores and cafes (keep an eye out for 24-hour marathon readings of Cervantes' Don Quijote!) Elsewhere, hundreds of Jordis, Georges, Yuris, Jorges, Gorkas and others named after the Saint will be forming a human chain in an attempt to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. There are also a variety of street performers and musicians on hand that add a romantic ambience to nearly every public square and plaza.

UNESCO, inspired by this day, declared La Diada de Sant Jordi a National Book Day. Plus, April 23 is the only day of the year that the Palau do Generalitat - Barcelona's principal government building - opens its doors to the public (and for free!) where one can enjoy huge displays of roses created to honor Sant Jordi inside this Gothic architectural masterpiece. Long queues are always expected, so try to get there early!

It took nearly 40 police and helpers to bring a runaway horse under control on C/Barcelona, Salou yesterday.

The horse, believed to have escaped from the local kebab shop 'Pita Kebab' or it my have been vila-seca damaged several cars during its little rampage.

PortAventura supera los 3,2 millones de visitantes de la temporada anterior

PortAventura ha superado esta temporada, que acabó ayer, los 3,2 millones de visitantes que tuvo la pasada temporada, han informado a Efe fuentes de este parque temático de la Costa Dorada.

A falta de datos definitivos, y tras cerrar ayer la temporada 2011, estas fuentes han confirmado que, a pesar de la crisis, la cifra de visitantes ha sido "muy superior" a la del año anterior.

"Se superará la cifra del año anterior bastante considerablemente", han añadido estas fuentes, que han especificado que el perfil del visitante corresponde en una tercera parte a turistas catalanes, en otra tercera parte a visitantes procedentes del resto de España y el resto a visitantes internacionales, en concreto de Francia, Gran Bretaña y, en tercer lugar y con un gran aumento, de Rusia.

Además, y hasta el 30 de marzo, cuando comenzará la temporada del 2012, PortAventura proseguirá con nuevas inversiones y proyectos como la nueva montaña rusa, dedicada al público familiar, que se inaugurará la próxima primavera y supondrá una inversión de 25 millones.

La temática de esta atracción girará alrededor del Himalaya y consistirá en un reto de aventura, con referencias a las leyendas de esta cordillera asiática.

Asimismo, se construirá un aparcamiento para autocaravanas, lo que permitirá a las personas que hacen ruta pasar la noche en PortAventura y comprar una entrada combinada para disfrutar del parque y hacer noche en el aparcamiento.

Igualmente, se pondrá en marcha una escuela de conducción, una atracción donde los niños podrán aprender nociones de seguridad vial y después ponerlas en práctica en un circuito con coches a su medida.

Finalmente, PortAventura procederá a remodelar las 500 habitaciones del hotel PortAventura, que se modernizarán con un criterio de polivalencia apto tanto para el público de vacaciones como para el de negocios

PortAventura has finished this season, which ended yesterday, with 3.2 million visitors for the season, for the Costa Dorada theme park.

In the absence of definitive data, and after closing the 2011 season yesterday, sources have confirmed that, despite the crisis, the number of visitors has been "very superior" to the previous year.

The visitor count exceeds the previous year considerably with a third of visitors coming from Catalunya, one third from the rest of Spain and the other third made up from British, French and Dutch with the largest increase being from Russia

Furthermore, until 30 March when the 2012 season begins, PortAventura continue with new investments and projects like the new roller coaster, dedicated to the family audience, with the highest drop in the world a whopping 300ft which will open next spring and will involve an investment of 25 million.

The subject of this ride is based on the Himalayas and will consist of a challenging adventure, with references to the legends of this mountain range in Asia.

Also being built is a camper parking area, which will allow people to spend the night at PortAventura and buy a combined ticket to enjoy the park and spend the night in the parking area.

Also being developed is a driving school, an attraction where children can learn road safety concepts and then implement them on their own circuit car.

Finally, PortAventura continued to remodel the 500-room Hotel PortAventura, which will be revamped with a versatile approach suitable for both the public holiday or for business.

Beautiful day in Salou

Well Christmas is over with for another year, spent yesterday on the beach relaxing with my daughter and our dog.
Salou is now getting ready for the new year celebrations, swiftly followed by the arrival of the three kings on 5th January.
The procession consists of the three Kings, Baltasar (legend has it, that he brings the gifts), Gaspar, Melchor and their attendants. Each king has his own float, which is decorated in the most luxurious of fashions. They usually have a throne and a huge wild animal; I have seen life-size model tigers and elephants. The Kings are dressed as if the have just come from the orient with turbans, gold trousers, sparkly waistcoats, blackened faces and full length beards. The floats are absolutely spectacular, big, bold and oozing the Orient. No money or effort is spared in the decoration. The part of the procession that everyone loves the most is that each float is loaded down with Caramelos, sweets.
The kings and their attendants throw these sweets in large handfuls into the eagerly awaiting crowd. There is a near riot; it is every man for himself. Don’t be polite, and expect to be rugby tackled by 5 foot nothing old ladies. The crowd goes wild grabbing handfuls of sweets and putting them into carrier bags and those who are really greedy bring upturned umbrellas. It is quite an energetic pursuit and it's not for the faint hearted. On our first procession we managed to get about 3 sweets and two of those were from a sympathetic policeman. Last year, however, we were more prepared and my daughter discovered the joys of grappling about in the gutter with the other little ones. The amazing thing is she is not really keen on the sweets but it is all such fun and she doesn’t even mind being hit on the head a few times by the sugar missiles.

Салоу в настоящее время готовится к празднованию Нового года, стремительно сопровождалась приходом трех царей, 5 января.

Процессия состоит из трех королей, Бальтазар (легенда гласит, что он приносит подарки), Гаспар, Мельчор и их обслуживающего персонала. Каждый царь есть свой поплавок, который оформлен в самых роскошных мод. У них обычно есть престол и огромный дикий зверь, я видел в натуральную величину модели тигров и слонов.Короли одеты как будто только что вернулся с Востока в тюрбанах, золотые брюки, блестящие жилеты, почерневшие лица и бороды длиной.Плавает абсолютно захватывающий, большие, смелые и сочилась Востока. Нет денег, ни усилий уделяется в отделке.Часть процессии, что каждый человек любит больше всего, что каждый поплавок нагруженные Caramelos, сладости.

Царей и сопровождающие их лица бросить эти сладости в больших горсти в нетерпением ждут толпы. Существует около беспорядки, это каждый сам за себя. Не будьте вежливы, и рассчитывать на регби решаться 5 футов ничего старушки.Толпа идет дикий захват горсти конфет и положить их в сумки и тех, кто действительно жадные принести перевернутые зонтики. Вполне энергичные преследования и это не для слабонервных. На нашей первой процессии нам удалось получить около 3 конфеты и два из них были из симпатической полицейского. Однако в прошлом году, мы были более подготовлены, и моя дочь обнаружила радости борется о в канаве вместе с другими малышами.Удивительно то, что она на самом деле не заинтересованы в сладости, но это все так весело, и она даже не против того, ударили по голове несколько раз на сахар ракет.
