This weekend a young 26 year old called Ryan Moore rode the winner of both the Epsom Oaks (yesterday), and the Epsom Derby (today).  He is already a world renowned quality jockey!

What most of you won’t know is that Ryan played right fullback (and sometimes wingback), for Saltdean United U8’s through to Under 18’s in the team that I was privileged to coach for ten years. 
Ryan rarely missed a training session or match even though he was riding out horses from the family stables in Woodingdean from 6am in the mornings.

During that time Jan & I got to know his parents Gary and Jayne very well and to this day we remain in contact and follow Ryan and his brother Jamie (who also played in midfield a year up in my SUFC team). 
Jamie has ridden in a couple of Grand Nationals so far and much is expected of him next April. 

It’s a small world but my message is that their dedication to whatever they were involved in showed and was encouraged.  They are winners which is what it’s all about.
