The theme this week for Carly Robertson's Photo Friday Challenge was Love. I am totally cheating here but this is what came to mind when I saw the theme. These were taken by my husband on the morning of July 18th, 2010, at the precise moment when our 2 older boys met their baby brother. He was about 24 minutes old. To this day, Sebastian and Alex still look at Dominic with all that love in their eyes.

Photo Friday Challenge: Week 5

For today's Photo Friday Challenge on Carly Robertson's blog, the theme is animals. This is Marley, our 2 1/2 year old tri-color English Springer Spaniel. This is also one of the few moments when she is still enough to take her picture. She DOES live up to the name Marley, by the way. I think we should have named her Shadow sometimes. Every time we take 2 steps, she is right there at our heels. If we go in one room, she will wait for us right outside the door (that is, if the door is closed). She makes me crazy sometimes, but she is a good dog. The English Springer Spaniel is an excellent breed for active families. Marley loves to run, it is when she looks the happiest (aside from when someone is petting her, because one would think she hadn't seen anyone in a week!).

Photo Friday Challenge: Week 4

The theme for (last) Friday's challenge over at Carly Robertson's blog was shoes. I had my photo ready, with 4 pairs of my shoes, house shoes (that my husband makes fun of!), sneakers, boots and heels. Then, Dominic decided it would be fun to spread binder clips and crackers all over the floor, then stomp all over the crackers as he looked at me and laughed. I was cleaning everything up. and he had gotten into other things...and then stood on top of the Cricut cartridge box to try and climb on top of the desk! I have been trying to get used to learning how to use my Canon Rebel XS in manual mode (I used my 50 mm lens) and had it in my hands when I took this one. Tiny little shoes on top of the (empty!!!) cartridge box. Aaahh...if anything else, my boys give me lots of photo opportunities and laughter!!

Project 52: Self Portrait

This week's challenge for My 3 Boybarians' Project 52 Challenge was to take our self portrait...it only took me about 273 tries (just kidding). I didn't edit this photo very much, just a little. As much as I hate seeing the sun spots on my face, I want to look back at this one year from now and compare the difference. Hopefully one year from now they will be gone!!

Photo Friday Challenge- Pocket Light

Carly Robertson's challenge last Friday was pocket light-Pocket light is just that, using a small pocket of light in the photo. Well, I am late in posting this because I just didn't have anything to photography like that. (I looked, I tried..didn't work.) Then Wednesday was my son Alex's 10th birthday and I got my opportunity. So here is my version of pocket light, and I am submitting with just about an hour left!! Can't wait to see what challenge Carly has for us today- hopefully it won't take me a week to get it!

PS- I am proud of myself...I just learned how to create my own watermark...about time!!

Project 52- My 3 Boybarians Weeks 1 and 2

I missed the deadline to post my photo for the 1st week, so I am posting weeks 1 and 2 here for the Project 52 Challenge hosted by Darcy at My 3 Boybarians. However, for the sake of linking properly to THIS week's theme, the first photo is for "Made With Love". I made this card for my youngest sister, Gabriela. She was in a pretty scary car accident early Tuesday morning. A guy ran a red light and hit her car in the side- HER side. Her car is totaled, and she is still in the hospital. She is still in quite a bit of pain, but is beginning to sound like herself. I can't wait until she is well enough to go back to the comfort of her own home. So...I made her a card. Is it an excuse to make something with paper? Maybe. It felt good not only to actually make something again this week after months of "papercrafting silence". It feels even better that she will know I made this with my own hands.

Here is the 1st week's theme: Resolutions. I had to add the text to the orange and blue binders, otherwise the photo is unedited. These are my resolutions...well, some of them...organizing our home-room by room, to get our finances in order, to use those calendars that I HAVE to have but never write in. There are a couple of other resolutions (get back in shape...I have always worked out but I stopped for several months last year...post on this blog consistently...learn how to use my camera and PSE 10 inside and out...not procrastinating...there's more- but they are realistic expectations that can and will happen)- they all revolve around being organized. In the end, when you are organized, you tend to have more time, energy, get more accomplished and it just seems to me that organized people are happier people.

10 on 10 Challenge

As promised, here are my 10 photos for Carly Robertson's 10 on 10 Challenge. So, here goes...

Biscoff Spread. What can I say about this? I discovered the Biscoff cookies on a Delta flight a few years ago. They were so good, in fact, that I actually saved one of my packets...for OVER ONE YEAR. Yes, you read correctly. I held on to it because I was either going to find them in a store, or I was going to find a recipe for to make them myself. I was in WalMart one day, trying to decide on what kind of cookies I would buy that day...and there they were. And every package had coupons on them!! I bought 2 packages, which is a good thing because I ate an entire one by that night. What?! They were gooooood. And I don't know a single person who can say they haven't done the same thing at some point or other.

Anyway, I was on a trip to Las Vegas, and I was in THEIR WalMart with my niece and saw this. The spread has the consistency of peanut butter, but it is made from the actual cookies. I ate that jar by the spoonful. It is probably a good thing the spread is nowhere to be found in my area. Forget love handles, I would have a truck tire around my waist!

I believe it is a type of speculoos cookie, one which I am not too familiar with really. I haven't found a recipe that comes close to tasting like these, and I would have to work out 5 hours a day 7 days a week to work off what I would gain trying. So, I have decided to just buy them every once in a while or for a special occasion. (PS- for the record, this jar is empty thanks to my husband!!!!!!!)

After a few months of not making anything papercrafting related, my sons asked me for bookmarks. Sebastian's was video game themed, and Alex's had a map.

They say it takes 21 days to create a new habit. As much as I love photography, I have to remind myself to take photos of every day little things. It's not just photography, it is a few other things that I am not sure I am ready to share yet. It all revolves around not procrastinating which I am VERY GUILTY of. One of my best friends, Errin, calls it "deadline driven". It makes me laugh every time I think about it, but in the ways that procrastinating has affected different aspects of my life is NOT funny. You can miss out on a lot of things if you aren't careful. So, that is one of my resolutions, to continue to push myself to be the best I can be, and to work harder in every way. It January 12, I have 9 days to go to see if this 21 day thing really works. So far, it seems like it does.

I am off to create a Get Well card and I have a new design for etched glass I need to work on.

Photo Friday Challenge Week 1

I chose 3 photo challenges to participate in this year and up first Carly Robertson's Photo Friday Challenge. I am a huge fan of hers and have been for a long time. It all began with her beautiful, classic, clean and simple cards. Now that she has changed her blog a bit and it is about "keeping it simple", she has me wanting to clean out my closets and all things unnecessary. Since I read one of her posts where she talks about being ruthless when she is getting rid of clothes and things her family doesn't need or use anymore...well, I have been ruthless around here as well. I am not completely finished but so far, it feels good to clear out some space.

Anyway, for this week's first challenge, we are taking self portraits...I don't like taking pictures of myself anymore. More than anything because me, being a big dummy sometimes, thought I could tan with no problem when I lived in Las Vegas. Now I have very unattractive sun spots all over my face. I hate being pale, but I would much rather be pale than have these ugly things that I am now seeing a dermatologist for to try and get rid of. (So far, it is working, but it will take a long time!)

I like this photo because I have no makeup on, hair pulled up, you can't see the sun spots, and I was just at home, being casual. Normally I don't know that I would even post this photo for all the world to see, but it is ME. Comfortable and relaxed.

I hope that out of this challenge I improve my photography skills, and I will also end up with a nice collection of photos. They will help tell the story of my family's year.

**The other challenges are 10 on 10 from Carly Robertson and Project 52 from my3boybarians. They are all centered around photography. Maybe by this time next year I will have a great understanding of my Canon DSLR. And of course, an awesome photo album.

This One Is For The UK Fans Out There...University of Kentucky, That Is!

Never in a million years would I have ever admitted this, especially for all the world to see, but I have recently become a UK fan. I have lived in Kentucky for quite a few years, and I will ALWAYS be a Florida girl. I had the opportunity to visit the UK campus not too long ago. It was then that I found out that not only is it one of the top schools in the country, but also has the #7 Spanish program as well. I figured, I live here, I might as well cheer on the home team. I also happen to LOVE basketball (as in die hard Miami Heat fans in my house). I love basketball almost (ALMOST) as much as soccer. Here in Kentucky, it seems to be almost a religion. It Has Been A While...

Sorry for the absence the past *almost 3* months! Fall season is our busiest season in my home. Our 2 oldest boys play soccer and run Cross Country for the school. I have been etching glasses for local orders, but my stamps and cardstock have been neglected all of this time. I got the Silhouette in July (or was it August?) from my local scrapbook store, http://preciousscraps.blogspot.com/. If you live in the area, you should definitely stop by. The Silhouette offers soooo many more options than the Cricut I was using. I am able to upload my own designs, use my own fonts, and best of all, it doesn't require much space since there are no cartridges to store. I won't be giving up my Cricut yet, but I do love my Silhouette!!

So, here are a few pictures of the glasses I etched recently for a customer. You can always place an order directly through my etsy shop.

Sweet Shot Tuesday

This is my first time posting anything for Sweet Shot Tuesday, which is hosted by Darcy at Life With My 3 Boybarians. Great site, I have been learning soooo much since I found her blog. If you have a chance, follow the links to her 31 Days Series. Lots and lots of helpful tips and tutorials if you are new to digital photography with a DSLR, or to Photoshop/Elements.

The photo I am posting is actually one that my 9 year old, Alex, took of me and Dominic a few days ago. I love it, 1- because Alex took it, 2- because Alex took it with my "big girl" camera (Canon Rebel XS), and 3- because it was a spur-of-the-moment-hey-mom-turn-around kind of photo. I fixed it up a little bit in PSE (mainly because Dominic's outfit was completely mismatched).

For the Groomsmen

These are Beer Mugs that I etched for an Etsy order. The bride and groom wanted their initials and the city, state and year etched on each mug. As it turns out, the wedding was set to take place the weekend Hurricane Irene made landfall in the area. I e-mailed them to ask if the glasses had arrived safely, and that I hoped everything went smoothly for the ceremony, in spite of the Hurricane threat. Fortunately, everything is fine. They were such a nice couple to work with, love that! I hope they are enjoying their honeymoon and wish them lots of happiness and love. Here are the mugs:

Coffee Cups and Mugs...

These are some of the orders for etched glass I have been working on. The first photo is an order I did for my husband's friend. They are the round coffee mugs, which is one of the two most popular glasses I sell. They are etched with the names Tim, Sherry and Jewell.

The next two photos are of an order I did for Isabel, a buyer from my etsy shop. She ordered these for her co-workers, as a going away gift. The square coffee mugs are the other most popular mugs I have in my shop.

The last photo is also another etsy order. This one I was so happy with, it was for Susan, a customer from Florida. She and a group of her friends are getting together for a girl's getaway- and that is what is etched on the mugs. Their names on one side and the place they are going and the year. I was particularly happy with this order. In part, because they look nice, and also because I have always wanted to take a girl's getaway with my own friends. How fun would that be?!

Dominic was so excited!!!

My boys!!! Sebastian and Alex helping Alex with his first taste of cake...

Some of you may remember the cake misadventures back in March. Well, I decided that I will continue making cakes but only for my kids. Dominic's 1st birthday was no exception. I decided that instead of trying to grill burgers and hot dogs and all of that, that we would have pasta with homemade spaghetti sauce, salad and garlic bread (of course with homemade garlic spread!). I used what I believe is a family recipe from an old friend for that huge pot of sauce- it called for mild Italian sausage and pepperoni. No ground beef in this one. It was delicious- and nothing was left (which almost made me sad, I kind of hoped there would be leftovers we could eat the next day!) So for the cake adventure...I made this cake using a recipe/idea from Martha Stewart website under Sailboat Birthday cake. Mine was a little different though. I made lemon cake instead of chocolate with whipped cream icing. To the whipped cream (made using heavy cream and sugar) I added some key lime juice and white chocolate. I used food coloring to make it the color "of the ocean", and a little bit I left white so I could make the waves. My friend Stephanie made the lighthouse for me, and I made the sailboat (also found the template for that on the Martha Stewart page with the sailboat cake), the tiny starfish, the silhouettes of the little kid playing, the umbrella and out of chocolate I made the anchors. My husband crushed baking chocolate to resemble rocks at the base of the lighthouse, and my son Alex crushed pecan sandies to resemble the sand. We also made some chocolate covered Oreo cookies and some sugar cookies in different shapes that my friend Stephanie made as well. The main decoration I used was the banner that Stephanie at Parker's Prints made for me a while back. You can see the banner, along with the other one she made for me here: http://parkersprints.blogspot.com/2011/06/more-new-designs.html I am SO PROUD of how the cake turned out, and while it may not be Cake Boss or Amazing Cakes material, it doesn't matter to me. One day my boys will look back and be able to say "my mom made cakes just for us" and know that I did it with all the love in the world. Oh yeah, and it tasted pretty darn good if you ask me.

Last thought: Dominic has been watching me decorate the cake that morning so when we put the cake in front of him that afternoon, he had the biggest smile on his face. I am so happy we were able to get his reaction on camera. He didn't attack the cake and get it all over him- his big brothers put a little in his mouth and that is how he got blue icing on himself. He ate a little bit, but not enough to make him sick of course!

The party was a success, with lots of family and a few friends and one very happy baby.

Almost forgot! These were his invitations! I used coasters from Papetrey Ink and put magnets on the back after I stamped them. Stamps were by Papertrey Ink and Stampin' Up.

My sisters, Paola, Gabriela, my brother, Gianfranco and me with Luciano, Liam and Dominic. Of course, I look like the mom of the group!!! There are 5 more grandchildren, and hopefully one day soon we can have everyone in one place at one time.

On a side note, the very next day, which was the day of Dominic's actual birthday, he and I flew to Las Vegas to visit my brother and sisters. The flight was great and the flight attendant even got everyone on the plane to sing him Happy Birthday. It was the first time in years that my sisters, brother and I had all been together in one place at the same time. The last photo is of Dominic and the two youngest members of our family, Liam and Luciano.

I am not exactly sure how I found this website, but it is BY FAR one of the coolest. EVER. I printed the picture on a little printer that apparently needed new ink cartridges. In it, my mother is holding Dominic when he was maybe 1 week old. He turned 1 July 18th!!

Custom Beer Mugs

I have been getting lots of request for custom orders, and here I have a set that the Bride-to-Be requested for her father and future father-in-law. I have more orders to work on and I have to admit I am having fun doing it. It is nice to see the reactions and the comments I get. These are the 20 ounce mugs. I have other sizes as well. I know I haven't been the best blogger lately, but I have had some priorities here at home that need my attention. All good things, not to worry! I am so happy to be back here, posting and creating and accomplishing. I have some great new possibilities that will allow me to create more. I am so excited and ready to put forth all of my effort into this. I am still interpreting in court, although not as much as I would like. I need to take the test for the next level, which I am so nervous about. I know I can do it, it is just a matter of preparing for the test. I love what I do, and I have reached a point where I need to take the next step.

In the end, it is all about family and providing for them - and having "enough". Not too much, not too little, but "enough". Does that make sense?

My little Dominic will be 1 in less than 5 weeks and I am so excited but happy as well. I am so grateful to have been here for so many of his milestones. I missed a lot of that with Sebastian and Alex when they were little. He has taken a few steps, FINALLY called me "mama" ON PURPOSE. I am sad because I want to turn back time and cherish every minute since the day he was born all over again. On the other hand, he makes us laugh every single day.
The theme for his birthday party is going to be all nautical (imagine that!). Stephanie at Parker's Prints ( http://parkersprints.blogspot.com/ ) made a banner for his birthday that I think I may leave up for, I don't know, say, at least a year. It is THAT adorable. 10 Favorite Things Thursday

Today's topic is: Favorite Things

1- Favorite Accessory: My big silver hoops
2- Favorite Song: Don't really have one, although right now I really like "Rolling In the Deep" by Adele
3- Favorite Drink: Water with lemon
4- Favorite Color: Aqua/blue-green/Robin's Egg Blue/Tiffany blue-any color that looks like the color of the ocean- but NOT TEAL!!! Ever since I watched The Wedding Planner (Jennifer Lopez, Matthew McConnaughey) and she says, "She chose teal for her bridesmaids dresses! Teal! The color of gangrene!!"- I just can't bring myself to include the color of gangrene!
5- Favorite Holiday: Christmas, followed by Halloween- not the scary Halloween though. The kid friendly, fun to decorate with your kids Halloween. Ooohhh...and Memorial Day- hello!! Beach time!!
6- Favorite memory: I really don't think I can pin this down to just one, so I will say this: I remember the very first time I went back to Peru after my family moved back to the United States. I remember the sounds, the sights, even the smell of that first trip back home.
Also- Saturdays and Sundays when friends and family would go to our house and my parents would grill and we'd play music and dance and just hang out at my house.
7. Favorite way to spend Saturday: Getting up early and spending the day at the beach. Right now we don't live anywhere close to the beach so I will also add lounging around with my husband and our boys, watching movies, or doing something outside, together.
8. Favorite movie: Drama- The Godfather & The DaVinci Code~ Girly movies- You've Got Mail, The Wedding Planner, How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days
9. Favorite Food: just about anything Peruvian or Italian or homemade pizza ( I have a great recipe for the dough and then you add fresh ingredients- best pizza ever!)

Vintage Telephone Card

The sentiment is in French, talking about chocolate, with a phone below it...hhhmmm...In my perfect world, you'd be able to call a candy shop ahead of time to pick up your order of luscious French & Swiss chocolates!!
I really like the vintage look lately, and that is the look I was going for here. The card base is made from rustic cream cardstock- it has little specks throughout. The edges have been inked and distressed. The telephone image has been adhered, not stamped, and the sentiment stamped in a deep red ink. It is ready to ship & available in my shop.
