It's been a little crazy around here with baby showers and graduations. Not to mention, my energy level is really decreasing and I haven't been feeling my best, but I'm nearing the home stretch, just 56 days until my due date, so I can't complain too much. Also, I am planning some big things for the future of the shop that I can't wait to share with you in the next month or so. For now, I have these new dresses for you in the online SHOP!

I'm really enjoying having a boutique where people come to physically shop because it allows me to sell a variety of smaller, inexpensive items that I cannot put online. Along with that, I get to create cute little displays and signs for these items! Here are some vintage frames I used to make little signs throughout the shop. You could use the same idea for small displays in your home or centerpieces at parties.

I hope you had a lovely weekend, I sure did!

Saturday morning, Ruby and I went to the nursery to buy some vegetables and flowers to add to the garden. Everything we grew over winter has gone to seed and we needed to start fresh with some new plants.

I kept it simple with the produce this time around, since the baby will be here right around the time of harvest. We bought a mix of lettuce, 4 types of heirloom tomatoes, basil, cilantro, mint and a few new strawberry plants to replace the ones that aren't fruiting anymore.

Sunday morning I went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market and scored this amazing french bed for Ruby and some pre-worn Kork-ease platform sandals that I have been wearing since I got them home.

The shop was open on Saturday and we had tons of walk-ins, yay! Thank you to everyone who came by and shopped, we were thrilled to have you! Plus, our shop was mentioned in the LA Times Saturday section, yippee!

We had a lovely Mother's Day lunch in the backyard, prepared by my fantastic husband and the other non-moms in the fam. It was a relaxing time of conversation and lots of laughter. I am so thankful for my mom, my mom-in-law and for being a a mom to my girls, what joy all those relationships bring me!

Hopefully next time we eat in the backyard it will be sitting at this amazing table that Jeff is building for me. I am so excited, could I be any more blessed?!!

Last Minute Mother's Day Gifts Under $30

We have lots of last minute Mother's Day gifts at the shop and we'll be open tomorrow (Sat) from 11-5pm. If you're on a budget, we have lots of great things under $30 and we'd be happy to gift wrap it for you! If you see something you'd like for yourself, send your husband and kids over and we'll help them locate it in the shop and wrap it for no extra charge.

We have a selection of vintage charms, most are under $10.

After you choose your charm, decide what length and style of vintage chain you would like to hang it on. Most of this are $15 or less!

If you're mom is a little more bohemian, we have these fun brass and copper strands that can be worn as necklaces or bracelets and are perfect for layering with other jewelry, just $15.

If you choose one of these, your mom is sure to get a lot of use out of it.

We also have some lovely vintage wallets that range in price from $10 to $30.

These funky earrings, some with sterling silver hooks, are all under $30.

After a bit of back and forth about whether my work space was a shop or studio, I have decided that it's both! The front area acts as a shop and the back as my work space. It's all open, so you can see what I do when I don't have customers. Right now we are only open on Saturdays from 11am-5pm and I am in the process of hiring a trusty helper. We'll still do appointments at other times and if you stop by when I'm there, come on in! Last Saturday was our first day and it was so busy, we had a big sale in the back of the shop as well as some champagne and treats. Thank you to all of my lovely local customers, I am looking forward to seeing you more often!

A Little Preggo Update

Hello there, I hope you had a nice weekend...it was lovely here in Long Beach and I enjoyed a baby shower for a friend, some time with the family and some delicious enchiladas I made on Saturday and finished on Sunday. Plus I got started on my shop sign, which I have to get done by the end of the week before we open up on Saturday!

It is due time I share a belly shot with you and I want you to know that I have been dreading this, as I feel humongous. Ruby said to me the other day, "Mom, when I get really, really, really big like you, I want to borrow all your clothes." I should try to take that as a complement, but the three "really's" are kind of ruining it for me. I have a pretty short torso, so there is only one place for this baby to go and every time I tell someone that I am due in July they say "wow!" Thanks people! Anyway, I am only sharing one photo here because this one makes me look the smallest and I don't hate it. :) Ok, enough complaining, haha, I'm getting excited for this little girl to come, even though it's going to be crazy. It's good for the control freak part of me to not have everything figured out, I really could afford to grow in that area.

P.S. The floor is really dirty and I won't be cleaning it any time soon. :)

Behind the Scenes: d-fuzz-it

I love what I do, I get to be surrounded by beautiful one of a kind items in my shop, but they usually don't come to me that way. I have to wash everything I buy and most of the items need additional attention in the form of repairs, alterations, etc. This darling sweater, for example, had a couple of tiny holes that I stitched up and some serious pilling to the fabric. I have tried everything from those battery operated shavers to razor blades on sweater pills and by far the best thing I have come across is this little comb called the "d-fuzz-it." You can buy these on amazon and they're amazing! All you have to do is lay the sweater on a flat surface, hold the fabric taut with one hand and comb the fabric with the d-fuzz-it with your other hand. Now the sweater looks like new!

This cardigan will be coming to the shop next week!

Easy Peasy Juice Spritzer

I thought I would share a simple spring drink that I have been enjoying almost every day lately. It's a juice spritzer...I have always been one to water down my juice, it's just so sweet and anything carbonated is usually a hit with me. To make this drink I use one part juice and three parts sparkling water, over ice...easy and refreshing. My favorite juice choices lately have been "Organic Strawberry Orange Banana" and "Organic Mango Nectar," both from Trader Joe's. If you aren't pregnant like me you could replace the bubble water with champagne! I added a fun straw and tied a few tiny strawberries from the garden on it as a garnish.

Organazing Jewelry Supplies

I've had this giant printer's cabinet at the studio for a long time now and have yet to clean and organize the drawers to store things. Since the drawers are so shallow, I've used some antique trays and baking tins to sort all my jewelry making supplies. It was about time to move on from all the plastic bags and empty cottage cheese containers that were holding all them previously.

A Little Family Update

Since most of my posts have been shop related lately, I figured a little personal update was in order for today. Our family had a lovely Easter and we are enjoying Spring Break this week. We've had a good amount of time to spend as a family, which is such a treat!

Things are going well in regards to the pregnancy, I am feeling pretty good these days (26 weeks along) and I am beginning to adjust to the fact that my life is going to be VERY different in just a few short months. I've been a little frightened as to how a baby is going to fit into my everyday life. It seems jam packed as it is, between work and Ruby, but I'm sure I'll find a way, just like I have before. I thought it would be easier to imagine holding this baby than it was with Ruby, since I have been there, but it still seems so foreign that there is actually a child growing inside me and the endless kicking doesn't seem to make a difference.

Here are a few photos we took on Easter and the last one is of Ruby at the shop. She wore her Easter dress for 3 days after Easter, haha. I didn't get any belly shots this time around, so I will have to do that soon. Hope all is well with you and your family!

Why Did I Buy This?

So the nesting has kicked in big time and the studio has been the first to benefit. Yesterday, I sorted and cleared out a ton of stuff from the back storage room. As I was doing so, I kept asking myself "why did I buy this?" and often "what was I thinking?!!" Here are a few of the items I came across on my adventure that I won't be letting out of my grips just yet.

At the time, I really needed these cardboard hangers...they are just so silly though, I can't bare to get rid of them. They have great design and vivid colors!

Not sure what I was thinking on this retro exercise machine. I just loved the fact that an infomercial type item like the modern day ab roller existed in the mid-century. This thing is so funny, you are supposed to stand on it and twist back and forth, it has a swivel piece underneath. Not sure I have the balance right now to try this. I love the graphics and fonts!

This is the cheeriest tea cozy I've ever seen. Haven't used it yet, but I won't be parting with it anytime soon.

Adorable little wooden houses, I had completely forgotten about these! They now have a new home on my desk.

I guess I collect umbrellas, I had NO idea that I had this many. I think I need to go on Hoarders, seriously, it only rains about three days a year here.
