1. Google Instant is having an impact on how users scan through SERPs. A heat map research, conducted by Mediative, proves the theory. This research is very crucial for both SEM (user’s eyes fall even less on the right side of Google ads) and SEO (users have the ability to view search results before they even search, hence, focus is only on the top results).



2. “Rule of Threes : the top 3 Organic, top 3 PPC and top 3 Local results will become the new Google first page, getting 90% of all clicks. The remaining clicks are on Videos, Images, and News. Organics past position 3 get almost no traffic = SEO is harder!” – Bruce Clay, President of Bruce Clay Inc.

7. This is the second time I have seen this landing page conversion formula, which was shared by Laura Mackenzie-Callow, Senior Search Marketing Manager of Intuit.
   C = 4m + 3v + 2(i-f) – 2a
   C = conversion, m =motivation of visitors, v = value proposition of product or service being displayed on the page, i = incentives or reward for visitors, f= degree of friction or resistance during the conversion process and a = anxiety factors.

SMX Toronto 2011 was definitely a positive experience.  I was able to meet  people from different industries and share ideas and experiences. Since it is technically an expo, there are many business development opportunities for agencies and consultants. Many thanks to event organizer eMetrics. This is normally what we say at the end of our very first date. Well, it is not that different when someone visits your website for the very first time. You can use your charm or politeness to make a similar statement, but with a twist like this:

“I see you really had fun, I feel the same; I will email you later.“

If  readers or visitors truly enjoy your content, they will become a subscriber either through RSS or through e-mail subscription. E-mail would be a better option since it can be personalized and tailored to the reader’s choice.

There are lot of people out there who still do not have faith in e-mail marketing. It is because they are familiar with outbound e-mail marketing and used to receiving hundreds of unsolicited e-mails daily, but the e-mail marketing we are discussing in this article is inbound e-mail marketing, which is another matter altogether.

Outbound e-mail marketing: An unsolicited, unwanted e-mail, also known as SPAM, which you never provided permission for and have no control over.

Inbound e-mail marketing: E-mail regarding a product or service that you had or have shown interest in previously, and have willingly provided your e-mail address to receive such notification, where have the full control to unsubscribe.

Here are some inspiring numbers regarding e-mail marketing:

• E-mail marketing returned $43.62 for every dollar spent in 2009, and is expected to return $42.08 for every dollar spent in 2010.  (Direct Marketing Association)
• 89% of retailers cited e-mail as the most mentioned successful tactic overall.  (Forrester Research and Shop.org’s Retailing Online 2009: Marketing Report)
• 67% of subscribers say they’ve purchased products offline as a direct result of receiving an e-mail from a retail company.  (Epsilon – 2009 Report)

If you have a landing page to promote your product or service, you probably already know the importance of email marketing,but if you are not at that stage, you can still ask visitors for an e-mail address. For example: a blog would be a great place where you can ask your readers to enter their e-mail address to receive an e-mail newsletter, post update or other important information from you.

An idea can be worth a million dollars or it can be worth a dime, but whoever owns the idea always believes it’s worth the million. In this age of information technology and globalization, it is very difficult to prejudge anyone’s ideas unless there are obvious causes for failure. Companies like Google Inc. and PepsiCo will hide every trace of their future business movements because the secret “uniqueness” is the business for such organizations; even though they have many protections from being copied.

Patent Search and File

If you believe you have a great idea, whether it is a product or a service, and you believe its uniqueness is the key for success, don’t wait to perform a patent search. Even if you are not going to launch the product or service, you should file for a patent. This way you can get confirmation that your “secret unique business idea” is fully protected. Big companies like Coke and Pepsi have hundreds of patents,whether they are used or not, and a dedicated legal team to monitor them.

Legitimate Consultancy Firm

You can go to a legitimate consultancy firm, and they will assist you with both your ideas and patent. Most of the consultancy firms already have their own version of non-disclosure and non-compete agreement. If not, a valid consultant should not have any problem signing these papers since they only provide advice are are not actually in the business; in other words, they are not your competitor. If any consultant is stupid enough to breach a contract, you can bring a lawsuit against the whole firm for such ill manner. The bottom line is, if you seek help from a legitimate consultant, you do not have to fear losing your idea(s).

Avoid

It may not be a good strategy to ask for advice from your friends or your entrepreneur buddies who are involved in a similar business, especially if your idea is the key factor of the business. Stay away from consultants or advisers who refuse to sign any non-disclosure and non-compete agreement (or they do not have their version of such documents).

Now the geeks at Google did not predict the future to be like this (my apologies to all my friends who work or have worked at Google), but it didn’t take long for them to realize the upwards trends of social networking websites (myspace, facebook, twitter etc.). So Google decided to launch their own version of social networking, Google Buzz.

If you are not completely familiar with Google Buzz yet, it is just an entry point for Google to your social network. With it, Google integrates your Gmail accounts, which automatically enables Google to get public information from your friends to you, as well as your Google profile.

The Google profile is where all the collaboration will occur. You have a profile at all the other social networking websites, so why not have one with  Google and add rest of the profile links there? Once you add all your profiles there, Google search algorithms will provide you much more customized and tailored search results, which is also known as the Google social search.

To promote Google’s profile feature, Google is displaying search-query(keyword)-relevant Google profiles on the search engine results pages (at the bottom of the page. So far I have only seen  it for the U.S.)

You can open up a Google profile today and get the benefits of Google social search as Maureen Heymans, technical lead of Google Social Search, explained in the video clip, OR you can wait until Google acquires your favorite social networking website. In case you did not know, Google still owns the website which ranked second based on the search requests volume it gets from users. Yes, YouTube is the website where people are searching the most after Google.

In conclusion, if you have information or data to share, Google wants it at any cost. This is how I see the entire scenario of Google and their social search strategy. What is your opinion?

• Why would an individual spend another $500 USD on a new device when they have almost all the features on their cool iPhone/iTouch? Keep in mind the fact that there are apps for almost everything.

If this is about a bigger screen, why wouldn’t you buy a big-screen TV to enjoy your games or movies? If it is for light reading, why wouldn’t you buy a $150-$200 USD digital book reader? Here are some pros and cons of iPad:

Pros:

• Bigger screen, better visual experience.
• Easier to type on for those with clumsy fingers.
• $500 price, which still reasonable for many who predicted the price to be around $1000.
• 10 hours of battery life.

Cons:

• Too big to put it in your pocket while you are traveling.
• No camera or flash support.
• To get the best data speed (3G), you need to spend $630 as the cheapest one does not come with 3G coverage.
• Built-in battery. Therefore, once the battery goes bad, the whole iPad will be useless.

Apple’s iPad reminds me of the scenario when a popular Hollywood movie producer decides to release a second version of a certain movie. Yes, there is still a market for it, but I am quite sure no one will argue with me when it comes to the money that second release will bring to box office as compared to the first release. My take on Apple’s iPad is exactly the same.
