Having an actor father (Gary Lockwood) and a mother who is both an actress and infomercial mogul (Denise DuBarry Hay) gave Samantha Lockwood an early and strong sense of creativity and business savvy. Lockwood, also a certified Bikram yoga instructor, left college to jump full time into an acting career. Her first major movie, Shoot the Hero, is being distributed by Warner Bros. “on demand,” as well as on Pay Per View and Netflix. Parts in commercials and a pilot for a desert-set show keep her busy when she isn’t painting or running her jewelry business. This month’s issue of Genlux features Lockwood modeling her fresh-flower jewelry, derived from her early days of waiting tables while going on auditions. “I was told if I wore a flower in my hair, I would get a bigger tip,” says Lockwood. “My tips nearly doubled.”

How to Use Fleurings! A video tutorial

For all of my Fleurings customers I want to make sure you know how to use your new jewelry. This video is also for all of you who might be interested in wearing flowers and curious how Fleurings jewelry works. It is very simple to use but there are definitely guidelines and helpful tips to be a Fleurings expert!

1. First thing is first, selecting the right flowers. You may get your fresh flowers from the grocery store, flower shop, florists, or even the nursery if you wish to grow the flowers in your garden. (Personally I love going to Trader Joes if you happen to have one nearby, they have a great and affordable selection.) Selecting flowers that have small stems is a must. This first Fleurings design is made to hold small orchids like the dendrobiums, mini-roses, spray roses, baby's breath, daisies and mums. These all come as cut flowers or potted plants as you will see in the video below.

(To make sure your flower fits nicely into your new jewelry always check the stem and compare it next to your Fleuring. If it's too there is a chance it could break off inside the jewelry. If this happens use a safety pin or a needle to pick the stem out - very pointy tweezers are great too. Also try shaking the jewelry up-side-down in the sink. Eventually it will come out. )

2. Add water to your Fleurings, earrings or necklace as seen in the video. Make sure you dry your jewelry immediately.

3. Add the flower of your choice. Cut your flower about a slightly over an inch long. The earrings will be just a tiny bit shorter than the necklace so you can keep that in mind. Better to be safe than sorry to leave a little extra length on your flower and then you can cut it shorter if you need to. Insert the stem into the Fleurings jewelry. If the stem moves around easily secure it with a toothpick or a little greenery. You can even make a small bunch of flowers for your Fleurings as seen in the video below.

Recently I was lucky enough to have been selected at the new model for Boutique Perfumery's new perfume Miss Darling. This company was started by a woman with fabulous taste because this truly is one of my new favorite perfumes. Let me tell you I LOVE perfume! So I am not just saying that because I was selected for her ad, I'm saying this because it's true and according to Vineet Sinha who directed this little spot, this woman has very picky taste. In her models and in how she makes her perfume. So I am both honored and thankful that I was chosen. It was all to fortuitous that Fleurings being my own line of flower holding jewelry found their perfect placement in this ad with me for the flowery and beautiful scent.
