From the moment I met Jesse he was warm, engaging and uncharacteristically funny. But what impressed me even more was his dedication to the music. He played a 30 minute set during sound check to get everything perfect.

Then after we recorded a show and he performed a song live for me, he warmed up his vocal chords for an hour while answering emails about his forthcoming European tour.

There’s a reason Bruce Springsteen performs a duet on Glitter in the Gutter. Jesse Malin kicks ass.

This is only the second artist in three years that I've featured on SMtv who doesn't have an album out.  I'm pretty adamant about it.  I broke the rule only for Alex Davis and now for Natalie Prass, both of whom I feel won't let me down in the future.

All three songs were recorded by me live on the day of the interview.  Most were first takes.
