Bonding With Daddy

Last Saturday, we went to Nanay Cata's place. I had a nice bonding moment with my Daddy watching a German show on TV as if we both understood what the hosts were saying... I was already in my jacket because we were preparing to leave. We just waited until Robbie Williams finishes with his live performance. He sang his latest single, Bodies.

Ehana's Need for Eyeglasses

This is Ehana and she is my friend from Japan. She is a very pretty girl, with a happy heart just like me. But she has a problem with her eyes. Can you see what it is? Yes, she is a little cross-eyed and since she is still very young, her pediatrician said that this can still be corrected with eyeglasses. I am sure these kids glasses with plastic frames will be perfect for her. I should tell Tita Luisa about it.

Ehana has a very playful nature. She runs around a lot and has tons of energy to jump, bump, skip and hop. It is amazing really, I couldn't keep up with her. Of course, I was still too small then and could not walk yet. I just crawl after her. So maybe she could also use a pair of impact-resistant children glasses so that Tita Luisa won't have to buy her a pair often each time her eyeglasses break. Or Tita Luisa can also choose kids glasses with resin and PC lenses. They come in funky colors too. Just perfect for kids.

I think Ehana is three years old now and she must already be going to Kindergarten. I hope I can see her again, prettier than ever before because her vision has already been corrected. I wonder if she has already started her treatment and is now wearing eyeglasses... Hmmm... I should ask Tita Luisa to send me a photo of Ehana wearing her eyeglasses, then.

Praying with Friends

Last Friday, I was astonished to find our house filled with our new friends. You should all note that I am not used to seeing many people in our house since there is only me and my Mommy during the day and only the three of us on weekends and evenings. So I was really surprised. I even hid in the kitchen for a while when they started showing up because I was shy. I am not so familiar with some of the faces though but when Nanay Cata showed up and then Tante Liza, I began to warm up and be my usual self. Unlike in the old days and in some conservative families in the Philippines when children were asked to stay and hide in their rooms when guests are around, the usual custom here in Germany is to introduce the children to the guests and are expected to also entertain them.

My Mommy and Daddy were happy to see me mingling and charming our guests. I was a good girl and didn't even cry. When I wanted to go to my room to play, I would pull Tita Cha's or Tito Mark's hand. Some of the guests even willingly hold me in their arms. I am not scared of them anymore.

Tired and sleepy after all the guests have left.

A Wish for Santa

My Daddy has been complaining a lot about his eyes lately. He says that they hurt especially his left eye because he works in front of the computer a lot. I wish I could give him something for Christmas like those New Arrivals eyeglasses so that his eyes won't hurt anymore. I like the Pure Titanium Full Rim Frame with Spring Hinge. It is made of pure Titanium but is very light weight, my Daddy won't even notice he is wearing one.

Or I could find him a very affordable $8 Prescription Zenni Glasses since he won't be using it much anyway. I could also go for a more funky and Christmas feel by giving him one of those Holiday Fun Eyeglasses but I think those are not his type. They are more to my taste but since I won't be needing them yet, the Titanium one will do.

I do hope Santa is reading this. I wish for my Daddy to not complain about his eyes anymore and instead of giving me a gift, I hope Santa will give me those eyeglasses for my Daddy.

Me and My Pigtails

I don't really like it when Mommy touches my hair. I'd rather she leave it alone. But sometimes, I have to give in to her wishes just to make her happy. She just loves to see me in my pigtails and my Daddy wouldn't stop hugging and kissing and praising me each time I have my pigtails on. So let us just say I have come to love it too because I realize they make my parents happy. And modesty aside, I must agree I do look pretty cute too!

Franci and Me

Hello everyone! Meet my friend Francisca or Franci (pronounced as Fran-si). She is two years older than me but we are very close. She is half-Filipino, half-German.

We love to play and dance and sing together. We only see each other once a week, every Friday during the Novena for Sto. Nino because we live far away from each other. When I am not around, she would ask, "Wo ist Samantha?" (Where is Samantha?) She used to call me Semanta when I was still new here but now she knows how to say my name correctly. How about that?

Here are our photos during the Rosary Fest last Saturday. She would always look after me and we would chase each other at the hall's corridor. When I was without a dancing partner, she would take my hand and dance with me. We really had a lot of fun!

I did enjoy my day at the fest even though it was raining. There will always be fun things to do when you are with a friend. Right?

Christmas and Me

December is fast approaching and one can feel the cool breeze of the winter air slowly making its way. And with December comes the Christmas season, that special time of the year when everything is cheery, merry and bright. In my part of the world, it is also going to be a white Christmas, with the snow and all. And so it is time again to save up as early as now so that it will be a happy holiday.

It is still October and yet our heating system is already working, that's how cold it is here. And it is going to be another additional expense. That's why we see to it that we use it only when we can't bear the cold anymore. We would wear our jackets inside the house to save on heating costs. We know this isn't the COLD that people are talking about. Brrrr.... will we be able to endure the winter season? I hope so.

My mom is already making up her shopping list and trying to budget everything so that we will have a happy Christmas. She worries that we won't have enough money for Christmas and so she is being frugal about a lot of things lately and is also considering getting a payday loan should we go over budget.

I always hear her saying how important it is that we have available funds during the winter holidays so that we will enjoy it. I think she meant about the shopping and the Christmas and New Year's feast that is a Filipino tradition. It would be no fun to go to the Christmas market and just look, right? And Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve would not be complete without a banquet. Also, we are planning to spend it at my Dad's brother in London and that would mean we also need to save for our travel expenses. She says I have to be a good girl too so that Santa Claus will give me presents this year. But I am a good girl. I wish this year will be as happy as last year. It need not be a grand celebration though. Being with my family and spending the holidays with them is more than enough.

Little Animals

I love my little animals toys. We got them at Ikea store last month. They are of different colors and each has a name too! Here they are:

Ellie is the blue elephant. Beside him is Po, the Black Panda. Between Ellie and Beefsteak, the friendly Rottweiler is Rory, the yellow lion. Then there is Helga, the pink hippopotamus and the Dottie, the alligator. Aren't they all cute? Beefsteak is not a stuffed animal though. He is a ceramic figurine, a gift from my Mommy to my Daddy when they were still going out. Would you believe that he is already 10 years old? That old! Hihihi!

And do you know who arranged them all?

It was me of course! My small hands are proof! LOL!

Friends are Inspirations

Many of you may be wondering how I am, especially if you are following my Mommy's blog, since she posted there that I am sick. As an update, I am feeling better, thanks to my medication and the care of my parents, and also your well wishes and prayers. Only a little bit more rest and I will be back to my usual routine (and so is Mommy). My Mommy is the one who is more sick right now. She seems to have caught my colds. I guess it is quite a common illness these days because it is getting colder.

I recently discovered something fun to do here at home. This happened weeks ago, even before I got sick. I love to hold a pen, settle down in my little chair, with a paper at hand, and scribble away!

Mommy discovered that I am right-handed too, just like them because I hold the pen mostly using my right hand.

Below is my first sheet. The name and the flower were drawn by my Mommy. I can't draw or write yet but the doodles and unrecognizable scribbles were still a joy for my mommy that she placed all my "artwork" in a clear book! Hehehe!

Why? Because I am such a very good girl!

We went to my pediatrician (Kinderartz) today for my vaccination. The sky was dark and it threatened of a heavy rain that Mommy was praying loudly that it won't rain. Perhaps she was also secretly dancing the SUN-DANCE while she was taking a bath this morning just so it won't pour! Hihihi!

Anyway, we came it at 10:30AM and we were promptly ushered into the examining room. My doctor asked a few standard questions that doctors normally ask before having a vaccination. Like if I was sick, do I have a temperature, stuff like that. Then he checked my lungs and heart and breathing with his stethoscope, which I am already accustomed to because Mommy and I play doctor-patient sometimes. Then he checked my ears and then my mouth. Everything was okay and normal.

Then came the vaccination. Mommy held me in her lap and the doctor pricked my left arm with the injection needle. And I never cried nor wailed. I flinched a bit from the pain when the vaccine was injected but that was all.

My doctor was surprised too because I was very quiet. Most little children like me normally would wail and throw a fit!

Then Mommy hugged me tight, gave me a gentle pat and said, "Very good girl!" I guess I made her really proud!

Why Am I Wearing Mommy's Shoes?

Hello everyone! My Mommy, having quite a good memory when it comes to remembering TV commercial scripts and jingles and lyrics to songs, loves to mumble some lines every now and then. I remember her musing the following one day:

Little Sister: Ate, why are you wearing Mommy's shoes?
Ate: Because...
Little Sister: And why are you wearing Mommy's skirt?
Ate: Because...
Little Sister: And why are wearing Mommy's earings?
Ate: Because...
Little Sister: Why are my Flinstones different from your Flintstones?
Ate: Because I'm going to be a woman soon...
(a few moments later...)
Ate: Why are you wearing Mommy's make-up?
Little Sister: Because! (Giggles!)

Are you all familiar with this TV ad for the Flintstones vitamins? It used to run during her childhood and pre-teen days.

I am still on the shoe part... I still have to look for my Mommy's skirt and make-up but it looks like she doesn't have any! LOL!

I love this pair of sandals of my Mommy because it is flat, and I love to watch the beads as they move and jingle about each time you make a step.

Where's The Helmet?

My Daddy just got home one day from go karting. He was exhausted but despite that, he still played with me. We were just having fun and goofing around. And this is what happened:

Me in a balaclava mask. Where's the helmet Dad?

Do you know what I am wearing? It's called a balaclava mask. It is used to hide the face and is usually worn by bad guys if they want to disguise themselves and hide their faces. But it has more to it than that. Balaclavas are worn to keep away the chilling cold, and is used also by racing drivers as added protection and so that sweat won't make their helmets smelly.

Hair Clips

Don't I look cute and girly in my hair clips? I had them on only for a few minutes though... Just enough for Mommy to take a few snaps. You all know how I dislike anything on my hair or head! Sunglasses, hats, hair clips, even combs!

Maybe when I'm bigger, I would allow Mommy to do my hair. But for now, no messing with my hair yet, please!

A Day At My Pedia

This was taken at the waiting room of my Pedia's clinic. Mommy and Daddy brought me in for my immunization. I was playing while we were waiting for my Daddy. My ever forgetful Mommy forgot to bring with us my blue book, which records all my immunizations and medical check-ups.

I had two shots that day. One for Hepatitis and the other for Polio. The next one will be on September 15th. It was pretty quick and I was surprised that I only cried after all the shots were given. And I cried only for a while. I can easily be consoled with words, unlike some children who take some time before they calm down. I didn't get any rashes nor had any fever too! I guess my parents are lucky because of that. Hehe!

A Reminder of A Grim Past

Behind me is one of the former guard towers guarding the concentration camp. Prisoners attempting to escape were executed in more ways than one.

Our vacation last July took us to many places. One of which is Germany's Dachau Memorial Site which used to be a concentration camp during the Third Reich period. It is a place of memory, of pilgrimage, and of education. The visit was quite a challenge, especially for my Daddy, but it was overall a deeply moving and memorable experience for my parents. I was too young to understand all about it though. Anyway, here are some of our photos:

The Landshuter Hochzeit

This little one is all set and good to go for another day of fun!

This little baby was lucky to have witnessed the Landshuter Hochzeit in Landshut, Bavaria, a re-enactment of the wedding feast that took place there in 1475. Why lucky? Because it only takes place every 4th summer, the last one being in 2005.

The bridegroom’s father, and wedding host carried in a sedan chair.

It was quite a lavish procession, participated in by almost 2,000 people of different ages, and lasted for more than an hour. Because it was a re-enactment, the participants were garbed in their Medieval clothes. It was indeed a mix of colors, and there were lots of fine horses too!

Shouts of "HALLO!" can be heard from the participants, in which the spectators also respond "HALLO!". There was live medieval music played by the marching bands. It was indeed a very festive celebration, as if we journeyed back in time in the year 1475.

And where were we the entire time? Sitting on the side of the street, drinking, errrrr taking it ALL in!

This little one enjoyed a lot during our drive going to Venice, Italy. Why? Because I had a blast playing at the playground during one of our pit stops. The scenery was very beautiful too! And the air was fresh and clean! Take a peek and see how much I enjoyed it!

It is getting warmer here by the day and what better way to stay cool then soak in water? But before I could go waddling and splashing in the pool, I must have my own swimwear first. I actually have two, given to me by my godmothers but the yellow one is still too big for me. The green two-piece was just perfect though when Mommy had me try it on.
