Session 6 @ Avembsys:SDLC

The topic for the session was SDLC(Software Development Life Cycle).The SDLC is a process which is used by System Analyst to develop an Information System which should result in a system that should meet the requirements or customer expectations and also be time and cost effective .There are 4 phases that form the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) and

Analysis
Design
Development
Testing

Analysis:
The analysis phase refines the project goals into defined functions and the operation of the intended application .The analysis starts with the identification of the problem and after the goals are well identified a feasibility study is done which can be either technical or commercial based on the technical aspects and on the financial position in the market,after the feasibility study the requirements are captured from the end users and the different stake holders which finally results in a Software Requirement Specification Document(SRSD).The SRSD is then sent to the client for approval in case of Request for Change(RFC) and is re-analysed and the changes are made accordingly.The analysis stage consumes 10% of efforts used in the development life cycle on the software system.

Design:
The design phase takes its input from the SRSD and design elements are produced for each requirements .There are sub phases in the design process , the Top Level Design and The Low Level Design .The Top Level Design deals with the Algorithms ,flowcharts and block diagrams and generates an output in the form of High Level Design Document . The Low Level Design deals with the details like Data structures,Logic and Functions and results in a Detailed Design Document.The designer should design the system in such a way so as to make the code reusable to take the RFC's into consideration.

Development:
After the completion of the Design , it is implemented into any programming language and should conform to certain standards.

Testing:
The code is then tested based on the test cases which are developed and then final system is validated.
The session was of short duration but gave us the insight of the development process of a software system which is really important for us and is of great help for our software project development.

Session 5 @ Avembsys:Introduction to Avionics

Welcome to one more session of SOAR ,this session was dedicated to Introduction of Avionics.
The session had an amazing detail of about requirements and criticality of the Avionics system.

We were exposed basics of the avionics such as safety mission etc.After a certain amount of exposure to these concepts we had an interaction about the projects with the trainee.

we had the following learning in the class,
Introduction to Avionics,
Avionics(Aviation Electronics)
The requirements of the avionic system are,
1. Safety of flight.
2. Mission of the aircraft (must serve the purpose of the aircraft).
3. Life cycle cost / cost of ownership.
4. Certification (the system must be certified by the certifying authority such as FAA, DCA, CEMILAC etc).

Some of the aircraft's embedded systems are GPS, Military IFF (Identify Friend or Foe), Microwave Landing System(MLS), Weather Radar, Avionics bay, Marker beacon, Distance Marker Equipment (DME), ATC Transponder, TCAS, Radio Altimeter, Live TV(located at the vertical stabilizer gives the passengers the outside view of the aircraft during the flight.)

Aircraft Navigation:
1. Absolute Navigation System.
2. Dead Reckoning System
3. Mapping System.

Types of data:
1. Fresh and valid(this is only data that is correct and should be considered).
2. Fresh and invalid(could be due to the equipment error).
3. Stale and valid(equipment is not updating the values).
4. Stale and invalid(same as above)

Also we got to know the radio frequency to be used during the emergency 121.5 MHz. At this frequency one can ask for aircraft flying instructions in an emergency such as pilot is unconscious etc.

The seven modes of EGPWS are:

Excessive descent rate ("PULL UP" "SINK RATE")
Excessive terrain closure rate ("TERRAIN" "PULL UP")
Altitude loss after take off or with a high power setting ("DON'T SINK")
Unsafe terrain clearance ("TOO LOW - TERRAIN" "TOO LOW - GEAR" "TOO LOW - FLAPS")
Excessive deviation below glideslope ("GLIDESLOPE")
Excessively steep bank angle ("BANK ANGLE")
Windshear protection ("WINDSHEAR")

Welcome to yet another session of SOAR.This week we had a quite series of classification of aircraft types.
Then Working of ILS followed by a an interesting Video session.

Aircraft and Spacecraft:
Spacecraft have internal combustion engine for power to propel itself in the outer space where vacuum exits.

But in the aircraft the propeller sucks the atmospheric air and it compressed and released at high pressure to provide thrust for an aircraft which helps in propelling.

Session 3 @ SOAR by Avembsys : Basic aerodynamics

The third most awaited session happened after a long break ,it had loads of stuff packed.

The subject matter was mainly focused on aerodynamic basics,as we went through the basic factors influencing aerodynamics such as :

Viscosity,Pressure,Moment,Momentum and Couple.

In particular,

Pressure :force per unit area.

pressure can be dynamic pressure ,static or stagnation pressure.

Types of Pressure (based on altitudes): Pressure Altitude ,True or Sea Level Altitude, Absolute Altitude.

We then learned about ,

Aerodynamics of a plane:

Involves the way in which the motion of plane in air is controlled.

The most important factor is the shape of its wings,ie. difference in the surface area of the wings upper and lower sides resulting in a lift.

Parts of a plane :

Cockpit -command and control

Turbine Engine -Generate thrust

Wing -generate lift

Fuselage -Carry payload

Apart from these there are other parts whose sole purpose is the control of the aircraft motion.

They are as follows:

Winglet -decrease Drag

Slats -Increase Lift

Spoilers -Change Lift Drag ands roll

Aileron -change Roll

Flaps -Increase lift and Drag

Elevators -Change pitch

Horizontal and Vertical Stabilizers -Control Pitch and Yaw

Rudder -change yaw

The forces involved in the aerodynamics of a plane
Namely four forces:
Thrust ,Lift ,Drag and Weight .
The forces Drag and Weight are mainly due to Fluid (air) Viscosity and Gravity(plane mass)

From the figure it is evident that inorder for a flight to fly the forces thrust and lift should dominate over the other two.
Further the Thrust provides the force for lift ,ie. Lift of a plane is obtained only after a sufficient thrust is applied.

There are factors affecting the motion of a plane.They are :
Angle of attack
Lift Coefficent
Stalling
Attitude of Plane

The session Included Videos on Air France 296 flight crash.

The session dedicated some of the time for discussion on warfare technologies such as VTOLS / VSTOLS

and ECM(Electronic Counter Measures).

Last But not the least A briefing about the projects ,along with some industry standard practices of development such as V-Models were discussed.

Session 1 @ SOAR by Avembsys : Introduction

         On 27th of October,As the noon unfolded itself there was a great amount of curiosity about how the first session of Avembsys would be.The fellow trainees gathered just to have the glimpse of the future session yet to be scheduled.
          The session started,at 2 pm sharp we got to see our much awaited techlead who would be guiding for the next twenty sessions and we were also introduced to our HR Manager, who would be scheduling our classes.The techlead gave the brief Introduction about how the sessions are going to be ,after which we were supposed to introduce ourselves .We also got an oppurtunity to express our ideas and intent with Avembsys ,our expectations etc.
The session began with the techlead introducing us to Avembsys.He started with overview of how the Corporate World works,Its expectations from the workforce and the difference between Academics and Industry standards.
Throughout the session he stressed on the potential of our ideas,the patents and how abouts of it, for which he gave the example of Avembsys itself ,how it started and how it is an emerging corporation.He explained various arena were in technology could be applied ,also gave some example scenarios.
He motivated us to get more ideas and also assured us his support for our ideas,in pursue of patenting it.He also stressed on skills regarding project report generation.
The session also witnessed many creative and evolutionary ideas emerging from the trainees,like -" Human Detection in derbis of an earthquake or a collapsed building" ,"Person Identification through static voltage produced in body" ,"Battery re-charge from body temperature" and so on.
So Folks,its time to gearup and " ThiNk DiffeReNt ".
